I go to Hampton and was there when she won. The issue was not that she won but that noone within the student body was familiar with her (she attended the VA beach campus and noone has ever really seen it), how could someone represent us when we don’t even know them. Also, she wrote President Obama saying she was being discriminated against for winning (crossing the line), she had slew (or inappropriate) pictures up on facebook and another issue was that it was rumored that the President swayed the panel of voters to vote for the girl so that Miss Hampton may go on to win Miss Virginia. But a black girl won that year anyway. salt.

She just brought so much more unnecessary things to he table. We just didn’t need her. Her winning the competition was like a white women stealing your man. Do you have to try and steal our shine in our own arena..sheesh. And if you are going to invite yourself into one of the few realms we can call our own atleast be a good white woman who’s outstandingly more attractive and is beating our entire demographic in every category. But this one….not even close.

It’s too bad to hear that the student body doesn’t get involved in the voting – they should have the biggest say in the results.

As far as the white dude, Weaven Steven, getting popular within the hair circuit, he came into the black hair industry and earned his stripes. He hasn’t won anything, because Hair Wars is not a contest – it’s a showcase – and it took him years of traveling throughout the U.S. and years of perfecting his craft to get to where he’s at. He invested more money and has done more shows than most of the black stylists in the U.S. We really forget he’s white until someone mentions it. It’s really not a color thing with us, and it may not be with the white girl at Hampton. Only the committee knows.

I respect you for having an open mind to be able to date out of your race and accepting people for who they are beyond color. Everyone is entitled to their opinions about things and reasons backing up their actions, but you really just took a HUGE step back for our race by calling YOUR brothers and sisters, of YOUR culture and YOURSELF “monkeys”. You seem not to embrace your race, heritage and culture. As black people, we’ve overcome alot within the last 100 years and for you to do this just doesnt make any sense at all. Are your mother, father, sisters, and brothers, Barack Obama, MLK Jr., Malcolm X, Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson “monkeys” as well? Didn’t think so. Your entitled to how you feel about people, but comments like that you need to keep to yourself makes you look and seem ignorant and i’m sure your not. Lastly there are numerous amounts of black men that don’t help the image of our culture. But on the flipside there are numerous amounts of black men that make us look excellent and are doing things with their lives. Don’t let one bad apple spoil the bunch.
Please read what you write, and think about things before they come out of your mouth.

Wow, as a black women I am shocked by the comments and posts on this blog. Thank God I was never attracted to black men, I always felt a little guilty about not watching to destroy my future and allow a black man in my life but when I see the state of black men today I am very pleased with my chocie to be a smart sista and not deal with ill mannered monkeys who cannot stay out of jail and keep a job. I am grateful to white women for taking our trash to bed with them. I am by far not mad at the white girls like some sistas are. They are doing us a huge favor.

@T., It needs to die because it shows that We all are prejudiced in one way or another. Any person of color who is upset with the decision should take a look within and ask “Do I want a colorblind society or not”

First, of all someone voted for her.
Second, she is not just a “white” girl, she is mixed, Italian and Guamanian (From the Island of Guam), so call it has it is! People need to stop saying people are just white! There are tons of people from Guam in Hawaii, they are a indigenous group/ minority group!
