VSB in NYC, Explained

(Photo courtesy of Jonathan Newton/Washington Post; Flyer courtesy of Panama Jackson/VSB)

Hey man, what’s happening?

Nothing, just bhillin. The usual.

Y’all going to NYC?

It’s in the title.

You right. You right. So, why are you going to NYC? I hear it’s the concrete jungle where dreams are made of.

Damon and I are heading to the big city of dreams to meet and greet all of our newest co-workers with The Root/Gizmodo Media. It suggests to be a jolly and merry good time with food, drinks, and merriment. We’re looking forward to meeting our new co-defendents and what not in this new venture for us.

You know what you guys should do? Since you’re going to be in NYC? You should have a meetup.

What? For real for real. You should.

That’s exactly what we’re doing. In fact, on the very flyer up there that says “vsb in nyc” we state where we’ll be around 830pm. We’re doing dinner there – we hear it’s awesome – and since Damon and I are muy lazy, we’re like, “why leave, why not just invite everybody to come where WE are!?” So we’re gonna be mackin’ and hangin’ at Burger and Lobster in the Flatiron district on Friday night (that’s August 4th) at 830pm.

It’s like you read my mind. So meta. What can we expect if we come out see you guys? Free drinks? Lapdances? Firebreathers?

Probably a solid mix of none of that shit. I mean, it’s entirely possible that a round of shots might be on us. It is a celebration after all, and what’s a celebration without shots. In DC, I bought a round of shots and handed them out to friends and strangers alike in celebration. Almost nobody said “thank you” either. But like Joe and Chico DeBarge sang to us….life has no guarantees.

Did you really just name drop Chico DeBarge?

Yes. Yes I did. He should send me a thank you card.

Are there any after Burger and Lobster plans?

Listen, I’m up for anything. We have a solid crew of folks in NYC that we’re always happy to see and hang with and who allegedly believe in the turn up. But who knows where the night may take us. But mostly, we’d just like to see as many folks as possible who support and helped get us to where we are today. If that’s you, we’d love to meet you.

Do you look out for people who really want to come say hello but pretend like they aren’t there to see you guys and kind of stand off in the corner, or perhaps leave and then say, “hey, sad I missed you!”

Yes. We look out for people like that. If that’s you, I promise, we do not bite. Come, commiserate, meet some new friends. Damon and I are the friendliest chaps you don’t know, and despite his recent glow up, Damon hasn’t gotten too big for his britches. He’s still the same ole approachable G. Shouts to Ginuwine.

Well, I’m convinced. See you Friday.

See you Friday. By the way, who are you?

Panama Jackson

Panama Jackson is pretty fly (and gorgeous) for a light guy. He used to ship his frito to Tito in the District, but shipping prices increased so he moved there to save money. He refuses to eat cocaine chicken. When he's not saving humanity with his words or making music with his mouth, you can find him at your mama's mama's house drinking her fine liquors. Most importantly, he believes the children are our future. You can hit him on his hitter at panamadjackson@gmail.com.

  • Michelle is my First Lady

    • Tam

Have you been to any of the meetups?

      • Michelle is my First Lady

No, but I’ve been to Reminisce in DC a few times.

  • cysinblack

Come to LA niqqas! Give me an excuse to lose weight and Strangé my way through you guys in person. I’ll buy a shiny pleather coat.

  • PetiteKBee

Can we the people, in order to form a more perfect VSB union, get a verbal agreement to a West Coast (Best Coast) swing?

    • cysinblack

Thank you. California needs some love.

    • BrothasKeeper

      Don’t forget the Third Coast!

  • I’ll be otherwise in disposed, but I hope everyone has a blast. And film one of those infamous Panama lapdances.

    • BM, Superman

      Hanging with ladies Todd?

      • Yes. That’s the short version. LOL

    • Todd, as a personal favor, please take BM to one of your get togethers and report back.

      • Tam

Are you sure Scrappy can handle it?

      • cedriclathan

        LOL! Payback’s a betch!

  • BM, Superman

Yall couldn’t tell us a month in advance? So we could plan?

  • Alessandro De Medici

Keep trying to tell you this is Alex Jones’ presidency:

    • Tam

Not the first such conspiracy theory they have unearthed connected to 45 recently I see.

      • Alessandro De Medici

He rode conspiracies into the white house, going all the way back to Obama’s birth certificate.

      • Alessandro De Medici

Catholic Church accusing the religious of right and Bannon of trying to push ffor theocracy…(lol lots of irony)

        • Tam

At this point if they bring out a cut board of little green men and say they have been mining the earth for gold, I shall believe because that seems more realistic than what currently obtains.

    • porqpai

      This almost destroyed me.

  • *roaming the disqus hallways…*

    • Cheech

      *nod up*

  • cysinblack

We’re culture generators this is a price we pay for.

    • LMNOP

      Hmm, very thought-provoking.

    • cedriclathan

Interesting. I guess because I don’t converse with a lot of white people on line, I don’t see the phenomenon. I’ve weeded my FB friends down to a very few and I’ve been hiding friends of friends if I have absolutely no connection to them. “I don’t know that white person, DELETE!”

    • Brooklyn_Bruin

So they’re saying non blacks can’t use the Jordan crying face?

      • Tam

so you are saying that SJWs are getting their panties in a bunch over nothing?

        • Brooklyn_Bruin

Perhaps, but it’s not inherent in the discussion why I should care, what the real tangible damage is. I think it also gets at millennial fragility.

          • Tam

Is that really a thing? Millennial fragility I mean

            • Brooklyn_Bruin

              A well accepted term, no.

Accurate description of how millennials are perceived? Yes.

              • Tam

Hope I am not wearing on you, but is the perception of them being fragile accurate or is it something persons who figured that they had is so rough use to justify dismissing the concerns of millennials?

                • Brooklyn_Bruin

I think the fragile millennial is real but also ahistorical.

These young folks are fragile, but so was my generation -> in comparison to the last. Plato n’nem were complaining about young people being soft.

They weren’t wrong, society makes life easier for successive generations, even if that ease isn’t well distributed.

I think one of the issues with today’s youth is that the small issues like this get outsized attention compared to bigger problems. I don’t know if that’s THE generational complaint, but it is the current critique of people constantly offended.

            • cysinblack

They consider masculinity fragile yet its only victims are those society and science considers weaker opposition.

              • Tam

                I do not understand.

      • cysinblack

        Everything is racialized concerning us.

      • everything is problematic

*listens to Marvin Gaye/R Kelly/Michael Jackson playlist* *listens to country music playlist*

        • cysinblack

          Country music is worse.

          • yo, country music > pop music, this isn’t debatable

country music is that white folk r&b…you get one of them old school songs? man they go through some things

            • cysinblack

Listen do wop, stop trolling for contrarian sake.

              • someone has to be the contrarian to the contrarians.

and i knowwwww you aint talking about being contrarian and trolling good sir lol

                • cysinblack

                  I am an honest freak.

            • Courtney Wheeler

              THE POSSUM!!!

yo.. him and Willie Nelson has some jammers

      • MsSula

I mean I don’t understand the argument at all.

Memes are supposed to express Universal emotions. Universal. So they should be race, religion and whatever else agnostic.

        • Brooklyn_Bruin

I get the argument, other folks been taking our stuff. This doesn’t seem like a battle that is important to fight.

That goes to overall political impotence though.

    • Looking4Treble

This was an interesting read. Funny how the medium changes, but the game is the same.
