The Television Made Me Cry and I’m Still Hardcore

Panama Jackson is a gangsta. Do you know how I know this? Because only gangstas start off talking about themselves in the third person. Well part of the difficulty of being a gangsta is that the oddest things move and touch you. Kind of like Michael Jackson, only not at all. For instance, I remember one time where I saw this little kid picking a flower in a garden overlooking at peninsula. She handed the Forget-Me-Not to her mother and I was moved. Of course, I quick regained my composure and committed felony drug possession which was a direct violation of my parole – at the time.

No T.I.

Datboydumb.

Well one of the strange things to move me has been television shows. Full disclosure: I, Panama Jackson, have actually shed a tear or two watching television and/or movies. I know, big shocker, everybody’s been the victim of an scene or two fully intended draw forth the waterworks. I’m a sucker for love and for sentimentality. And since it’s the day after Labor Day, I figured it was as good a day to unleash my pansy a** most moving television scenes. Consider it a peace offering for some crime I’ve yet to commit. Anyway, here’s a list of 5 television scenes that have f*cked Panama Jackson the f*ck up.

1. Freddie’s date rape episode on A Different World

If you’re anything like me, then every night from 10pm until 11pm, you’re watching A Different World on TVOne. While I’m not generally a big fan of the network because I hate myself my neck because it’s Black, I fully appreciate them bringing us one of the TV shows that helped increase enrollment at HBCUs. Well this past week, one particular episode came on and it moved me. Kind of like Anytime Movers, only not at all. Anyway, in this particular episode, Taimak aka Bruce Leroy is supposed to be believable as a bad guy who basically goes around raping chicks who won’t give up the goods. He’s totally unbelievable in this role until he’s in the car with Freddie and lo and behold, he looks like a rapist – which could be why he never really worked again, he was a bit toooooo convincing. Anyway, Dwayne tries to save Freddie but she won’t believe him that Bruce Leroy aka Garth is trying to get her goodies. Long story short, Garth tries to rape her, Dwayne shows up and saves her and at the end of the show, she thanks Dwayne for being a friend with watersoaked eyes. It gets me every time. Mostly because even 20 years later, I WANT to help Freddie. Jealously, I know thy name.

2. Will’s dad bounces…again, on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

This might be the episode where Will Smith became Will Smith. It f*ckes me up EVERY SINGLE TIME IT COMES ON. I have six seven words and one contraction for you:

How come he don’t he want me man?

I’m getting a little misty just thinking about that scene. In fact, I need a tissue.

3. Steve tells Carl that he’s like a father to him on Family Matters

While I can’t find a freakin’ Youtube clip of the episode – Internets my fanny – this is the episode where Carl gets electrocuted and Urkel saves his life by giving him CPR. Well, Carl realizes Urkel saved him and has to be nice to him. Shenanigans ensue. The end. Except in this episode, Steve ends up telling Carl that he was scared to lose him because he’s like a father to him. I have no idea why but that always brought a tear to my eyes. Thing is, I know my daddy. He raised me. So I have no idea why I get so ungangstalike, however, maybe I have a soft spot for all my homeboys at Clinton Max. Word to Tupac.

4. The episode of Dawson’s Creek where Dawson’s dead buys the farm

(the one version of this that I can find on youtube disabled the audio b/c the use of the James Taylor song was unauthorized on Youtube. Blower)

Gangstas do indeed watch Dawson’s Creek. Or used to anyway. Yo, this episode where Dawson’s dad dies f*cked.me.up. I think it was the manipulative use of James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain” but I still remember seeing this episode and having to take a call or go save a puppy or something to remove myself from the room. I wasn’t alone either. All of us watching had to go tend to other commitments. Sadness I know thee to well.

Anyway, those are 4 moments that test my gangsta in a most heinous way – are there any tv, movie or video scenes that don’t include Aaron Hall that brought you to tears? Or better yet that you can’t watch without pretending you have allergies?

Share please, I need something to watch today at work.

    • i love that video. mostly b/c dude so deserved to get hit by SOMETHING. like this fool hit the streets like cars don’t exist. its only fitting that it was an ice cream truck. not sure why, but it works for me.

      • What I find so funny about it is that he just happened to get hit by an ice cream truck that wasn’t going ice-cream-truck speed. Like, an off-duty ice cream truck. Hilarious. What are the odds of that? Hell, what are the odds of getting hit by an ice cream truck, regardless of the speed?

    • OMG. I remember the first time I saw the Fresh Prince episode. My heart ached for Will. He was ret-ta-go on that cross country trip… then that how come he don’t want me man?! Oh…. just call it done. The way I was crying you wouldve thought my daddy wasn’t right upstairs. I had a MOMENT.

    • Even my brother cries during that episode. Will was so convincing at the end. “How come he don’t want me?” Gives me chills.

    • I saw that clip and my eyes immediately got moist…and I didn’t even click on the clip. I just saw the still on screen and was like “awwww man….” and walked away from my desk trying to hold it together.

She gon’ cry in the car…..(Friday)

Anyway, I cry when I watch My Girl….that scene where ole girl is trying to get MJ his glasses as he’s laying in the coffin….I can’t.

If anyone has watched NBC’s Friday Night Lights…I cry EVERY episode. Seriously…it’s that good!

    • That episode does indeed hit the spot. Especially when Will started crying and Uncle Phil gave him a teddy bear hug…so emotional *tears tears*

    • i was so hype to see this on the list. when i saw this episode, i was like…he’s a star! lol. i’m playin but the acting was really great and i wasn’t expecting all that on this kind of show. but will smith shocked me.

  1. DeWayne breaks into Whitley’s wedding-”baby, baby please!” Well, expresss yourself DeWayne! Moved me to shed a few tears.

    • I’m the only one I know who HATES that scene. I know they loved eachother and all but, why did dwayne have to go and ruin a good wedding? He could have told her the night before. That was just selfish.

    • Yes, sweet merciful LAWD yes!!!
I applaud and stand up on my sofa hands clutched to my chest as if I don’t have this episode quickloaded on YouTube!

    • yeah, i watched it again and was like…yo, why does this fool look…experienced…with this scene. bruce leroy didnt know what to do with a paintbrush and this fool is on some predator sh*t. coming in the game on some modeling sh*t.

      • “bruce leroy didnt know what to do with a paintbrush and this fool is on some predator sh*t. coming in the game on some modeling sh*t.”

LMAO!!!! I’m so upset with you right now for making me crack up in public.

  2. When I was around 21, I watched the movie “Cool Runnings” and when the Jamanican Bobsled went for the 3rd time and they were killing the track and then the sled came apart and it was a wrap. However, when they dusted off and picked up the sled and walked to the finish line. A brother was fighting a tear or 9 at that moment. “Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, give it up, it’s bobsled time…Cool Runnings!!!”

    • jamaican bobsled team song is stuck in my head right now…Disney needs to play that again, I miss old school movies/shows like “Cool Runnings” “:Troop Beverly Hill$” “Wish Upon A Star”(Kathryn Heigl) “Brink” “Johnny Tsunami” “P.U.N.K.S.(young Jessica Alba)” BUG JUICE, Doug, Cousin Skeeter, Pepperann, Recess, Clarissa Explains It All, My Brother and Me (Aol’s Amanda diva was on there!) etc. smh I’m gettin’ old may have to buy from Amazon or somethin’ gettin’ nostalgic

    • Dis comment was f*cking hilarious! #isthatwrong… wrapping it up with the Cool Runnings song- nice touch.

    • *tear* no lie, i saw that movie for the first time when I was like 6 or 7 and that part made me cry then….it still gets me.

    • yeah, i’ve shed some tears watching intervention. it’s especially heartbreaking when family members start reading their letters and sheeet, so sad. and some have died because they wouldn’t get help and another one committed suicide…

      smh

      • the one about the boxer dude, w/ his 2 sons trying to find him & reconnect w/ him… WATER WORKS, that one got me so good!

        • This right here…we heard about it even more in South Florida, naturally.

I absolutely loved when Judd stood up for Pedro and threatened to beat up Puck at the reunion show. Never felt Judd during the show’s airing, but he earned his card that day.

  3. Yeah I remember that episode of Fresh Prince messing me up back in HS. I know it got a bunch of my guy friends, too. They weren’t even shame to admit it either. Isht was way too real. My pick? The cemetery scene in Steel Magnolias has me bawlin’ every.single.time. I see it. “it does look like a brown football helmet!”

    • I wanted to add– the show Cold Case always gets me too. Normally it’s at the end when they finally reveal who the killer is, and the circumstances of why the murder took place. It’s always the reality of folks losing their life over trivial bullisht that always gets the waterworks going. *i’m still a G though* :-D

  4. You know you go from 5 examples at the top to 4 at the bottom? If you need an extra, I always get misty eyed when Martin proposes to Gina and Brian McKnight sings “Never Felt This Way”

That, or when Dwayne breaks up Whitley and Byron’s wedding… “baby, please!” “die, just die!”

  5. Any list without that Fresh Prince episode is wrong. Anyone who says that scene doesn’t move them in the least is a gotdamn liar. I mean I didn’t cry, but you know how you get that lump in your throat and sh*t.

  6. ~Long time reader stepping out of lurkdom~
TV always makes me cry. At least once a week I’m dropping tears over some sentimental scene. The one moment that always, always gets me is the end of Monsters, Inc. bc of this perfect trifecta of tenderness.

    1. Mike puts Boo’s door back together from fragments after its been put thru a wood chipper and shows his hands and they’re covered in splinters.
    2. Sully kept a chunk of the door and carries it around w/ him all the time.
    3. Sully opens Boo’s door, says “Boo?” she says “Kitty!” and his face lights up.
I’m sniffling just thinking abt it…back to lurkdom with a box of tissues….

    • The first time I saw this scene, I bawled.

The 93888467395th time I saw this scene, I teared up.. lol!! Darn that Pixar!!!

    • Man, number 3. *sobs*

And even before that when Boo runs to the door and opens it and realizes Sully ain’t there no ‘mo’. Dayum.

And while we’re on the subject of Pixar: the first effing few minutes of Up. GAWD. That one montage…with no dialogue…only pictures/memories got me all emotional. I was a wreck and a half.

      • I sat in SHOCK at the first few minutes of that movie!!! I was mad and sad all at once!! It got all the awards for THAT??!! (Squirrel!!!) Was that the moment when Pixar grew up? I refuse to watch those ten minutes again.

  7. *spoiler alert*

This last episode of Mad Men got me pretty bad for a few minutes. Watching Don Draper, pathetic stark and broken, was rough. That moment when he realized, there is no one left in the entire World who gives two ish’s about him…the heaviness, the loss. And then he looks over and…Peggy, real and honest and just as damaged, who steps up and reminds him that she can see him too.

And then the end, when you think he’s just gonna steamroll right over the prior night with Peggy but he reaches for her hand in that silent acknowledgment of the solidarity of the general effed-upped-ness of their lives.

I honestly can’t think of a time that I’ve ever seen a man and a woman interact on (American) television in this profound a way (without resorting to sexual chemistry/device) in the past decade.

    • I don’t even watch Mad Men but I caught that last night and paused the channel.. I had never seen it before and was standing in front of the tv for the longest watching it.. Now i’m mad I didn’t see the series from the beginning..
that’s usually how it goes with me..

      • This last episode was indeed amazing. However, Nickerz, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend going back and watching all three seasons. I feel like not a damn thing happened until the 3rd season finale.

        • What? The first season have imho arguably some of the best TV moments ever. I think to take full advantage of the whole thing, you’ve got to know where those characters are coming from.

Heck, I just bought the recent issue of Rolling Stone just because they were on the cover.

          Don Draper… *swoons*

          • I know where they were coming from, and I also understand what the writers were trying to do. In the end, I still found it very boring, art or not.

            • I would not care-at all-about Don Draper if I didn’t understand or know the events from S1-2. The malice and venom from his ex-wife would also make no sense, and neither would the relationship between Don and Peggy. Also, Joan would be pretty flat (all things considered) if we went by this season alone, not knowing her romantic history, or the BS she’s endured from her husband.

    • Shout out to Black Women who watch Mad Men. I’m working on every woman I know, trying to get them on board (laughs).

Arguably the best show on t.v. ever. Yeah…ever. When they had that scene about Don not giving Peggy credit for the Glo-co advertisement & the cleo award, I felt some repressed childhood memories b/w me and my own father…I laughed then was saddened all within a nanosecond.

That show and the characters just draws you in. Every episode there are at least 5 to six times when I saw ‘wow’ because the writing is so poignant.

      Bond. BlkBond.

PS—New Bond Post is up. The series continues Friday….

      theblackbondblog.wordpress.com

      • It really is the best thing on TV right now, hands down: writing, characters, story arcs. And I think what really draws me in is how honest and raw it is: about marriage, infidelity, racism, sexism, rape, abortion, and just how people are with each other and with themselves. It doesn’t attempt to browbeat the Middle-Class Mentality as the answer to every problem. If anything, it exposes the lie and the underbelly of that Mentality. It mocks it, ironically- this show set in the 50′s and 60′s completely messes with/parallels our own modern ideas of what success and happiness really are.

Sometimes I wonder how this show got greenlit in the first place because it just doesn’t…fit…with anything else that’s on right now.

        • Matt Weiner used to write for the Sopranos and he initially pitched it to HBO, but the head of the studio at the time, turned it DOWN (they are kicking themselves in the a$$ right about now).

You are right. I own seasons 1-3 and I watch them throughout the week/weekend when nothing else is on. Easily the best show on right now…

Makes me want to get some headshots and try to audition…

          Bond. BlkBond.

  8. that fresh prince episode gets me everytime!
and when Dwayne pulled a spiderman on top of that car, i clap for ‘im..
without fail, every episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has me bawlin.. (silently, and with a thug-like integrity)
i know they choose the most extreme cases.. but it’s like, “oh my goodness, where do they find these families..”
i’m sure there’s more, but i gotta silently reflect.. and pull my thug together..
OH! I was a Dawson’s Creek fan!! the last episode where Jen dies gets me..
AND for the finale’, the episode of Felicity where she goes back in time to reverse Noel dying.. the whole montage of scenes is just too much..
come to think of it, i’m a sucker for a montage..
it can be the gatorade commercial, NFL highlights, NBA highlighs (especially around championship time), Olympics highlights.. just put some music and slow motion footage and I’m done..
    *sigh*

      • you couldnt have possibly thought you were the only one who cries at extreme makeover. hell, i think they do that show specifically to make people cry. even the mostly manly of men would break down at some of those stories they have on there. i stopped watching it b/c i got tired of feeling like a punk every week.

    • “OH! I was a Dawson’s Creek fan!! the last episode where Jen dies gets me..”

*adds to list of reasons why you’re the homeskillet*

      • I read their lyrics and it leaves me confused but somehow it always makes sense when i’m singing it in my tone deaf alto.

        • LOL, right. Seriously, it’s like when they write their songs, they use a random sentence generator or something. Just a bunch of random words thrown together.

Or maybe I just dont “get it.” Word to Vanilla Sky. (-_-)

  9. Yea, um.. I used to laugh when that Fresh Prince episode came on (ducks for cover) . I thought Will Smith was trying way too hard to be a real actor and that hug… awwwkward.

I will say that the one episode of Futurama with the dog killed me. And that episode of Supernatural when Sam died. Other than that, I’m cool as ice.

    • YES! I thought I was the only one who ever cried over that Futurama episode…it was something about the dog just sitting there through all the years sad and lonely and waiting…..*grabs some tissue*…

      • omg! that episode of futurama kills me… i only could see it that one time, and as much as i love futurama, if that epi comes off i gotta turn it off LOL my heart can’t take it!

    • Yea, um.. I used to laugh when that Fresh Prince episode came on (ducks for cover) . I thought Will Smith was trying way too hard to be a real actor and that hug… awwwkward.

did you let the Nazis borrow your heart or something?

    • Yes@ the Futurama episode. I can’t even watch it anymore! I posted the same thing before realizing you posted it here.

  10. I think I’m about to get my feelings hurt.. I believe my comment went the ways of Ameriie’s career…
Never to be seen or heard from again..
    *sigh*

  11. Awww, I love TVOne for ADW Marathons/episodes, and the episode with Freddie almost being raped, gets me everytime, all women need a Dwayne in their life, no Carter…That’s some true friendship, a straight male friend who ain’t tryna get the goodies,,,even tho Cree Summer & Kadeem were a couple off camera for a sec…anywhoo shes gettin paid with all the voiceover cartoon work!!! No one else besides her and Jada! from the show is really doin’ nothin..the episode that gets me is on THE GAME when Janae’s water breaks while Derwin/Melanie are bout to get married…I’m ready for #THE GAME season 4! tired of dayum reruns!, but thats a effed upsituation to be in for both parties..TROJAN MAN is all I have to say about that…also #DEGRASSI when the shooting happened and “Jimmy Brooks”/Aubrey/now Drake gets shot, I was an old DegrassiSTAN show went downhill with Newcast altho they are entertaining, #ONEONONE when Arnez walks in the room and sees Bri in bed with RayJ that ish pissed me off this guy dated u with no goodies for years and even move in from Bmore to Cali together with NO SEX and u smash RayJ..where dey do that at…I MISS UPN/CW”BLACKSHOWS” lol I forgot The Game is a spinoff of GiRLFRIENDS which was Never the same when “ToniChilds” left..smh

    • Girl you hit the nail right on the head with The Game episode!!

The last 5 mins of that episode had me in TEARS! Derwin leaving to see Janae in the hospital, Kelly hoping to get back with Jason and him walking out the courtroom with Camille, Mel back in the hospital with Derwin to see the son was named Derwin Jr., them still getting married at the end (I remember all the details because they were showing that episode last night on BET)……but yea, **TEARS!!!**

Also, the episode of Saved by the Bell when Jessie was taking caffeine pills and she had that breakdown with Zack, I’M SO EXCITED, I’M SO EXCITED, I’M SO…….SCARED…..
that episode made me not even want to look at a caffeine pill lol

  12. I got all emotional at the last episode of the T.O. Show. Mo confronted T.O. about the son he never met (and conceived while he was engaged to another woman – oops) and broke out into tears since she (and T.O.!) went through the same thing. Mo started screaming, “Do you know what it’s like when you wonder why Daddy loves his other kids but not me?” She was extra emotional because in spite of that, she named her brand new baby after him. *tears*

    • SIGH that explained a lot about TO and when he described last season how he was teased for being dark, maybe that explains his dating/sexing preference with mostly nonblack/halfblack -women#T.O.Show: he proposed to white girl…..ummm..no comment
-why does Kita sooo freakin defensive when people mention her and T.O. look good together?? because they act like a couple
-Kita needs to admit her love for him I mean really you can’t be that close and act like yall have nevah had feelings, I wonder if they “smashed before” and TO brought her ex who was MARRIED when with her back into the picture..Jessica that black chick from Mascara commercial and TO were tooo much alike..and TO ex Felcia was too grown mature
      - why doesn’t this ninja use CONDOMS has 2 5 year olds and they are Not twin..we call this GHETTO TWINS (when you have two children the same age from diff women..smh) and he hasn’t even met his son yet..really
we all have issues but DAYUM

      • well um………..can we talk about how when he proposed to the yt girl she was lookin like O_o. Like she was thinkin, “chileeeeeee, i guess.” now, in reality, he probably treats her triflin and it did seem like he randomly showed up after months of actin foolish and proposed, not to mention that it was probably edited to look that way, so i’m sure she probably didn’t look as unthrilled as it seemed, and if she did she may have had a valid reason, but i’m sayin. between that unenthusiastic wedding proposal and ochocinco following behind that blonde yt girl that kept punkin him, i am sick of seeing these men get played like they don’t have the comprehension skills to understand that they look wack and desperate.

        • Allegedly T.O. has 4 kids so we still got to figure out who that last one is

@90sgagirl – About his ghetto twins – at least he met them before, but i don’t know why that was the first time they met each other. They all live in LA! (Including his son) And on the color issue – am I the only one who was uber-salty that his daughters’ princess party has a white princess? Seriously? He hired Snow White instead of Princess Tiana? He needs to marry Kita.

@charli skipper – That proposal was with the ring he bought his last fiancée. *slow clap*

          • @ all ya’ll about T.O.

i avoid reality shows like the plague but i was flippin thru channels one time and i stopped because i saw T.o. crying and it was the one where he was sittin with his dad (i think) talkambout how he found out who his dad was (i think around 12/14) and realized that he lived across the street…but the father had never introduced himself or come to see him all that time…and the dad’s excuse was ‘i didn’t want you to think i was a bad person…’ umm, REALLY????!!!!
i don’t feel either way about T.O but that choked me up…

            • right!!!!! i was like, “what, betch!” i cannot even imagine that in my mind. first of all, how is you (yes, “how is you”) knocking up multiple people on your STREET!? then you never even met the boy that is your son across the street!? lawd…..that made me really sympathetic to TO. i think he’s triflin for not meeting his own son, though. i mean, i understand the history involved, but the way he was sitting there snotting up as a grown man should make him wanna shake the boy’s hand or take him for ice cream or or wear a condom more often or something. damn.

          • i wasn’t paying 100% attention, so i was wonderin if the fact that they mentioned the old girlfriend’s ring meant that they were tryin to imply that that was the same ring he proposed to the yt girl with. oh uh uh. *sideeye*

            • that last comment was to i am your people.

at least ochicinco would have bought the girl a new ring. he likes to pamper his yt and/or exotic women

    • Ya’ll have me laughing. I thought I was the only one with these questions. LOL! T.O. needs to hold a press conference for his show where women can ask him to explain his nonsensical life…just for being black on t.v. We deserve answers!

  13. #ADW episode gets me everytime too! Everyfemale needs a straight guy friend whos got her back and dont want nothin’ from her,,idk if this is realistic, but I love ADW and my HBCU.., Cree”Freedie” Summer & Kadeem “Dewayne” dated in real life..and Cree & Jada are about the only ones from the show doin’ somethin/gettin’ paid. #DEGRASSi the shooting episode when “JimmyBrooks” aka Aubrey/Drake gets shot, #ONE ON ONE when Arnez walks in and Briana & Ray J one of their roomates, are in bed togehter, Arnez dated Briana for years, put up with her dad, moved to Cali from Bmore with her lived with her and NEVER had sex with her, but she lives in Cali a few months and gives IT up to Ray J..smh#..#THEGAME when Melanie”MedSchool” & Derwin are about to say I DO and the phonecall that Janay is in labor ..= a effed up situation for both parties..Melanie giving up her life/school to be with a NFLplayer, who she eventually cheatsonher/breaksupwith and goes from Kardashian life to working at Dennys..or Janay babydaddy gets back with exfiance..smh…I need NEW EPISODES, I forget The Game is a spinoff of GIRLFRIENDS, which was never the same when “TONI CHILDS” left, damn I Miss “SOUL FOOD”.. I wonder where those 2 shows would have ended up if they were still on the AIR!

  14. “No T.I.
    Datboydumb.”
TI WHY U WANNA DO THAT A DO THAT WHY U WANNA DO THAT HUH?? is all I could think about!
I was rootin for TI but NIGGA IS U STUPID OR SOMETHIN’ really like DAYUM he was just in EBONY talking about WHAT I LEARNED, obviously nothin’ u just got out of jail and u do this shid! WTH grow up all that redemption ish and show u had on MTV and all those kids lookin up to u etc and your OWN CHILDREN that some dumb ish as well as UGly ass Tiny shes a ride or die chick but how stupid can yall be! When you are in this INDUSTRY full of CAMERAS etc and yall wanna have WEED PURPLEDRANK/SIZZURP EXTASCY in the freakin’ car.. I can’t feel sorry or BE WITH THIS FREE TI you’re a dumbass for that.. I haven’t seen TAKERS yet I heard it was like a Black Ocean’s11/Set it Off…I feel like I can wait for DVD release. but IDRIS..Michael Ealeys eyes..Lawd..soons ..letme stop

    • I agree with this WHOLE post! TI is sooooooooooo stupid! I mean really stupid. WHY OH WHY TI have you failed your fans again?!?!?! He had me believing that he had actually changed.
      TI, GET YOUR LIFE TOGETHER!!!
      Tiny, DO BETTER!

    • I’m not entirely sure that people actually went to see Taker’s for the story/plot. I fully intend on owning that ish when it comes out just for Mr. Ealy’s eyes. #noshame

    • let me go ahead and put this out there so that it is not misunderstood at all…

TAKERS IS NOT NEARLY CLOSE TO BEING ABLE TO BE COMPARED TO OCEAN’S 11. Set it off was even better. You don’t see Takers b/c you want to see a good movie. You see Takers b/c you want to laugh at a bad movie.

      • “You see Takers b/c you want to laugh at a bad movie.”

Given the eye-candy in the film, the above statement probably only applies to straight men and gay women.

      • I haven’t heard the “Ocean’s 11″ comparisons, but I have been hearing “Takers” being compared to “Heat”.
Two weeks before “Takers” had hit the theaters, a friend and I were shopping in “Bed, Bath & Beyond” when she told me that Takers were going to be like the black-version of “Heat”. I remember saying (okay, I was shouting at her) “N*gga what!” in a showroom filled with white folks.

  15. as soon as i saw the title i started looking for that fresh prince episode. the.saddest.mess.ever.

i would also like to submit that carlton episode where he got pulled over by the cop and couldn’t comprehend racial profiling and was all, “i’d stop a car for going too slow………right?” i mean, it wasn’t a tearjerker so, in essence, i don’t know why the hell i’m talking about it but it was deep.

um………………..can we talk about the “damn, Damn, DAMN!!!!!” episode of good times? :( i was not tryin to let my daddy drive to mississippi never again no mo’.

    • @charli skipper

“um………………..can we talk about the “damn, Damn, DAMN!!!!!” episode of good times? i was not tryin to let my daddy drive to mississippi never again no mo’.”

I saw this episode last week and I cry “every single time” I see it. Part of the reason is because when my stepfather (the father who raised me) died, my mom didn’t cry at the funeral either and my brothers and I thought it was strange (just like the episode). But when all was said and done and everyone who offered their support went back to their regular lives, my mom finally broke down. Thinking about it even gets me choked up. : (

    • “um………………..can we talk about the “damn, Damn, DAMN!!!!!” episode of good times?”

I actually laughed at that part. Am I evil?

      Yes. Probably.

      • co-sign…overacting for the win. I just can’t bring my eyes to mist. or my laughter to stop.

  16. I think the writer’s of Avater: The Last Airbender were influenced by Uncle Phil & Will. There was a similar scene in the cartoon with the uncle and his nephew and it had the same (although lesser) effect on me. I love Uncle Phil.

    • I love Avatar. I never thought of the similarities between the four characters, but you are on to something. The fianale, when Aang kissed Katara…emotions

  17. Those first four, man . . . they get me everytime. But, then again, I’m kind of a tv/movie cry baby, lol. So, take my additions with a grain of salt lmao.

That’s all I’ve got for now . . . I would also add the final scenes of most black sitcoms b/c I’m a sucka for a series finale, lol.

  18. I don’t remember that epsisode of The Fresh Prince. hmmm…

I got a little torn up inside when they showed Dookie shooting up in the alley about to chase the dragon on the Wire finale. I was pulling for that kid.

Matt Saracen’s entire life on Friday Night Lights. (Hell if he were a black kid from B-more he would be Dookie.) More soecifically when his father is killed by an ied in Iraq and a few days before the funeral he like Hank Hill realizes that he hates his dad. It all ends with him burying his pops with bloody hands gripping the shovel handle.

    • I’m shocked that the Wire didn’t make it on here (or PJ’s list) until now. The S4 finale with Randy kills me every time.

    • dude, Friday Night Lights? you are so right about Saracen. When they started getting into his life and you realize how f*cked up his situation was you couldn’t help but feel for him. or like the episdoe where he was going on the date with the coach’s daughter (her name escapes me) but he had to go home to take care of his grandmother and didnt want her to see it. man that was one scene where i felt so bad for him but you realized how good a guy he was.

if they were older, he definitely would have gotten some that night.

  19. I remember the movie, My Girl, when Thomas J dies. Then Vada goes to the funeral and walks up to the casket talking about “He needs his glasses, he can’t see without his glasses.” Man, that really got to me as a little kid.

Also, has anyone seen the movie My Sister’s Keeper, with Cameron Diaz? That movie was sad from the beginning to the end. It wasn’t just one part. I was crying throughout the whole movie.

    • That movie was sad from the beginning to the end. It wasn’t just one part. I was crying throughout the whole movie. .

OMG I flat out bawled from beginning to end with that movie. And for that reason alone, I never need to see it again. My sister tried to warn me that it was a tear jerker, but I thought I had my teflon vest on. I was wrong. I woke up the next morning eyes swollen and evrythang!

      • Reason why I didn’t see it… Stuff less heavy than that gets me… I’m trying to be happy out of the theater…. :)

I mean I got caught up watching Everybody’s fine with Robert de Niro… when I saw the movie earlier this year I hadn’t seen my father in 5 years (*tears up a little*) because we live on 2 separate continents… and here was this dying man taking the train to go visit his grown children and them treating him coldly (*can’t be crying at work, sheesh*)… Yeah that little movie got me good. Good thing I was alone in that theater… better thing, I just spent the last 5 months with my favorite man in the world, Daddy dearest!

        *tears are gown… Whew*

    • oshid the saddest movies of my life I was ballin’ visiting my moms house and it came out, I come out the room, bloodshoot eyes just needing a hug My Sister’s Keeper Lawd whhhhyyy, I think that’s the first NONromantic/comdedy Cameron Diaz has been in.., and I remember watching MyGirl as a child with my mom and it took me a minute to comprehend Thomas J died, I didn’t know whether to be mad at him for being a typical 2520 goin’ in the Dayum woods by himself!?!?! or be mad a Vada for wearin’ her good clothes/jewelry outside..smh I wonder where the actress that played her now is??

      • Oh riiight!! I straight forgot about that movie. Me and my twin watched that movie and we were both crying crazy hard. Like red eyes and runny nose crying. It definitely made you consider how far you’d go for your fam.

          • Yeah, there were some pretty funny parts in it. Definitely worth a watch. It does take a particular kind of humor though, if you hate british humor, I would pass on it.

            • I grew up watching British humor with my mom on PBS. I like watching episodes of the original Office from the UK. Will have to check that out.

      • NONromantic/comdedy Cameron Diaz has been in..

She was in “In her shoes” which was a pretty decent movie…

        • Also, Being John Malkovich. She did have a love interest in the movie, but it was not a romantic comedy.

    • Wow Deeds you get 5,000 fav eperson points for the My Girl scene when Thomas J dies. I fell in love with that movie as a kid and was bawling my eyes out in the theater. I forgot all about that.

    • Can we talk about how Vada Sultenfuss is one of the worst names for any character, in any movie, ever, bar none?

*that part with Thomas J was indeed sad.

    • It came on TV and I didn’t even see the whole thing, but I saw the last half hour. Cameron Diaz in the street waving at her sister in the car…

  20. this is a corny admission, but Oprah still gets me sometimes!! LOL… & Boston Medical had some rough stories, that was a good show!

I don’t remember that ep of Fresh Prince, I’ll have to check it out.

    • how is it that more than one person doesn’t remember that ep of the fresh prince. i bet if you polled people on teh street and asked them to name 5 episodes of the fresh prince or storylines that stood out, that one would come up 9.9999/10 times.

something is rotten in the state of denmark.

  21. Hotel Rwanda.

    Saddest movie ever.

I did not cry when I saw it. I wept. Snot and heaving is nit gangster or sexy.

The scene where they’re driving and the road gets rocky and they get out and they see the bodies …. Shoot I’m getting choked up now.

    • When I saw this movie in the theater, there was actually a point in the movie when I had to remind myself to breath. When I walked out, my throat hurt (pause) b/c I had been choked up for the entire 2+ hours.

    • I refused to watch hotel rwanda again, I cried my eyes out.
Have you watched a South African movie called Sarafina about apartheid in South Africa? I have watched it like 10 times and I cry every danm time. . . . . . It enhances my 2520 haterade.

    • That movie was particularly hard for me to watch… I’ve only watched spurts of it… The story was too close to home for me to be able to stomach it… One of my friends growing up had to literally hide herself in the woods to survive… after having seen her parents killed… The things she had to go through to get her sister and herself out of that joint are just too heavy to even think about…

      Human nature. Le Sigh.

      • That’s really sad. Did you hear about the gang rapes going on right now? Or maybe it passed. I don’t know for sure because they hardly ever report on what’s going on in parts of Africa. Some group going villiage to villiage…raped 200 so far. I have to use the internet to stay informed.

        • Yup… This story is just so friggin’ enraging… I don’t know even when to start with it, so I just shrug… It’s just… ok, let me stop or I’ll get pi$$ed off all over again.

  22. The episode of Fresh Prince where Will gets shot and Carlton gets a gun.

Craziness! Or the episode of Family Matters where Eddie gets beat up by the racist cops (I think they were cops)

  23. As soon as I saw what this post was about I prepared myself to blast you for not including the episode of Fresh Prince with ole bish arse Chicken George. Man. How come he don’t want me man turns on the waterworks instantly. Sorry for misunderestimating you. I’d like to add to the list:

    1) The episode of Fresh Prince when Carlton & Will got robbed, Will got hurt, and Carlton got a gun. In the hospital – Give me the gun Carlton!! Cheesy, but it still gets me.

    2) There are lots of moments in The Wire that make me shed tears but the episode when Bodie and Poot killed Wallace is especially heartbreaking. Deep Sigh. David Simon set me up big time. They showed Wallace taking care of all the neighborhood kids, feeding them, making sure they went to school and isht. I tried to like Bodie in later seasons, but I just couldn’t forgive him for what he did. Just writing this…

    3) A very close second place for The Wire goes to Randy Wagstaff: You gon’ help, huh? You gon’ look out for me Sgt. Carver? You mean it? FCUK YOU HERC!!

The next two aren’t TV shows, but get me just the same:

    4) In My Girl when Veda Sultenfuss goes to the doctor for her imaginary bee stings and then later when she goes to Thomas J’s funeral.

    5) In the movie Blow when Boston George gets set up by his boys and gets locked up again and then the camera shows his daughter sitting on the front stoop waiting for him.

    • @Yonnie 3000

I remember Wallace wetting himself and thinking that they were still just little kids under all of the stress that they lived through and around.

Another Wire moment is when Dookie was asking Cutty about the world outside of Baltimore and how to get there and Cutty replying that I wish I knew how to get there too.

    • The thing for me with Bodie was that I started watching in the 4th season, then went back to season 1. I started with the more mature Bodie, not the wreckless jerk he started out as.

    • “my girl” reference…priceless

like in “my girl 2″ when she finds that video of her mom singing “smile”…

      gets me everytime.

    • We were just commenting on how the Wire is one of the few shows that has been off the air for years, yet we still try to protect people from spoilers. LOL This whole comment needs a spoiler alert.

    • ****THE WIRE SPOILER ALERT**** (happy Sane, lol)

Another moment from The Wire is when Sherrod OD’d on Bubbles’ hot shot for that guy who kept harassing him and stealing his stuff.

I could do this all day with The Wire. I think I might pull out the box set and get a jump start on my annual re-watching.

    • “…when Bodie and Poot killed Wallace is especially heartbreaking…”

I was sad, but angry at being Wallace being killed. I was sad that this young boy (who apparently still had his compassion) was killed. But, I was angry at Wallace for coming back to Baltimore, after he had an ‘out’ out of the hood.

  24. “Panama Jackson is a gangsta. Do you know how I know this? Because only gangstas start off talking about themselves in the third person.”

Oh, it’s not because you like the number 3? It’s like I barely know you, my ninja!

“1. Freddie’s date rape episode on A Different World”

Excuse me, Panda, can I just step away from the crying for a minute a list what had me cracking up during that scene? Yeah? Thanks, P the G. When Dwayne saved her and was like “run Freddie run!” and then ol’ dude grabbed him and he was like “wait, Freddie, wait!!”, I bout died. Great comedic relief and well-placed. Anyway, yeah that “thank you for being a friend” scene was sad. I was half-expecting her to have a card attached with the sentiment. Was I the only one who thought they said “and the heart attack would say thank you for being a friend” in the Golden Girls theme?

“2. Will’s dad bounces…again, on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”

I know everyone cites the “how come he don’t want me man” as THEE line, but it’s the “TO HELL WITH HIM!!” he hollers beforehand that grasps my attention first. It’s that line that precedes it that makes it art. Yes, I just said Fresh Prince was art. Sue me, Van Gogh. Oh, you can’t hear. Anyway. You could tell he was on the brink of losing it and when he just crumbles with such a sentimental line after the slight postering…I felt for him. Plus, I think Will Smith is one of the best criers in the game.

By the way, I met Ben Vereen when I was in 1st grade. How’s THAT for gangsta.

“3. Steve tells Carl that he’s like a father to him on Family Matters”

Dude, this was probably THEE quintessential moment of Urkel comma Steve. It made him a character and not a caricature. It made him super sympathetic and lawd this was a tearful moment. Because as much as we love the shenanigans of Steve meddling Carl, we can all tell that he truly cares about Carl, and vice versa.

“4. The episode of Dawson’s Creek where Dawson’s dead buys the farm”

Is it because I hate Dawson because the actual scene didn’t really affect me?

OR MAYBE IT WAS BECAUSE HE DIED IN THE DUMBEST WAY POSSIBLE BY REACHING FOR AN ICE CREAM SCOOP HE DROPPED WHILE ON THE EFFING E-WAY.

Sorry, that was evil. I do have to say I got a little misty in the following episode with all the memories and whatnot. *sniff*

Other TV Moments that made Cheekie bawl:

    - When Pacey finally went to Dawson to talk about any resuscitation of their friendship after Dawson saved him in that Perfect Storm-esque catastrophe while Pacey was out on his boat. Dude. “Never Saw Blue Like That” playing in the background while Pacey says he wants Dawson’s friendship back badly and looks forward to the day it happens again KILLS me. And Dawson’s simple “until then.” is effing perfect. Like I said, I hate Dawson but their friendship was pretty special and I did feel bad that it crumbled.

    - Randy and Carver from The Wire S4. Period. The hospital scene where he yells “You promise?! You got my back huh?” and when Carver bangs his fists on the steering wheel after dropping him off at the group home? Water effing falls. DAYUM, where can I get some kleenex around this piece?!

Aw, man we gotta least movies too? Eff you, Panama. *grabs more kleenex* OK, fine.

    - E.T. This is why it’s my favorite movie for life. It was the first movie to have real emotional resonance with me. At the end of the film, when that bighead mofo’s finger lights up and he says “ouch” and touches it to his heart? OMG, I lost it like a contact of a nearly blind person. Then he points to Elliot’s head and is like, “I’ll be right here.” LAWD. I refuse to watch this with anyone I don’t know that well because I will most definitely cry. It never fails.

    - The Karate Kid. Mmmhmm. The end of this too. That epic arse crane kick had me CLOWNING with joy. But, all it took was Mr. Miyagi’s head nod coupled with that dayum music. When Daniel-san is like, “Hey Mr. Miyagi, we did it!!” and Miyagi nods all, “That’s right young child”, mannnn. Ish had me weak.

Guess what? Even after all this nostalgia about crying?

I still got love for the streets, it’s the D-R-E.

    • @Cheekie:

ET-That ish had my 7-year old *ss bawling! It starts when the government people come in and quarantine ET and put him through all that bullish…then they escape and do the whole fly-on-your-bike thing…then he does the ouch-finger to Drew Barrymore’s heart…

Damn, my allergies are acting up *sniff*

I don’t watch that movie anymore. I keeps it gangsta.

      *sniff*

    • That Perfect Storm episode of Dawson’s Creek is classic!! That version of “Never Saw Blue Like That” is on my playlist.. also, the version of “Have a little faith in me” that they used to love to play.. GREATNESS!!
how happy was I that they used to do the “tonight’s music was from..” at the end of each show?
      there’s a number of Joey/Pacey moments that make me a little verklempt…

  25. I’m glad to know that I am not the only punk a$$, who cries at certain scenes.

-The closing montages of “Cold Case”. I usually do not cry at every one, but I do tear up when it is a case that involves a child being the victim.
    -”The Locator”
Just like with “Cold Case”, I can watch plenty of episodes without tearing up, but there are couple that makes me cry when the two people do reunite.
-(I know this is not a television show, but whatever) The “Baby Mine” scene from “Dumbo”. It’s the scene where Dumbo visits his mother, after she is caged for becoming unruly, because of some bad a$$ kid who was bothering her baby. When I was a child, I couldn’t get through that scene without crying and I still can’t get through it.
-(Another movie scene, as well as, being a Disney Cartoon) The scene from “The Little Mermaid” when Ariel thinks that the Prince was going to get married to someone else.
-The scene in “Mystic River” when Sean Penn’s character finds out that his daughter was murdered and takes all of those cops to hold him back (and away from the crime scene).
-There were two scenes from “The Corner” that have gotten me to a lump in my throat: the scene when the mom had discovered the news that her husband was using heroin and the second-to-last scene of the series’ finale (the scene with the father was lying down in his bed), where the narrator was telling the viewers that the father had died from overdosed.
-The scene from “The Wire” when Wallace was killed. Actually, this scene makes me angry and sad. The ‘sad’ emotion because of the obvious, but I also found myself angry because I felt like he should’ve stay with his relatives.
-The “after the funeral” scene in “Steel Magnolias”. GAWT-DAMN…From the moment when they show the doctors pulling Shelby off of life support, I start to tear up. Speaking of life support…
-The HBO movie “Life Support” is definitely a tear-jerker. There are two scenes. First one is when Queen Latifah’s character is banging on the apartment door and the second scene is at the end of the movie when they were releasing the balloons, in memory of the people who passed away from AIDS complications (and “This Woman’s Work” the Maxwell version starts to play).
-The montage in “She’s Having A Baby” where the man is waiting in the waiting room, then there’s Kate Bush’s “This Woman’s Work” and the memories of Kevin Bacon’s character is thinking of about his wife.
-The closing testimony scene in “A Time To Kill”. I think I was crying not because of how he was describing of Tanya was raped, it was more of the fact that the lawyer had to pull out the “If she was white” card to prove Carl Lee’s innocence.
    -”Bastard Out of Carolina”
The whole damn movie made me cry.
    -”I Am Sam”
Pretty much the whole damn movie had made me cry.

    • Bastard out of Carolina…THIS!!!!!

      SPOILER!!!

In the end after dude rapes the girl (ugh…it was a HORRIBLE scene) and the mother catches him mid-act and he starts crying and she takes him back…on the spot?!?? o_0 That scene had me wanting to find Single White Female and whoop her ass…yes I know it’s a movie, but I wanted to find her and straight beat her tail for even accepting the role and playing it so damn well.

The scene that makes me cry EVERY.TIME is when Bones gets the birth certificate dropped off by her mother. Her mother left her for that bastard…after all she had to endure…I cry every time!

      • @MO

        LOL @ your reaction.
The first time I had watch the film, my mother was watching the movie too.
If you think you were angry, you should’ve seen my mother.
Then there’s the scene where the aunt had discover the bruises on Bone’s thighs and rear end…
You would’ve thought my mother was watching a football game.

    • Really….the whole post about how I felt about Bastard out of Carolina is just gone? Just up and vanished like a fart in the wind (bonus points for those who know where that line came from)

      Moderate deez….

  26. For the most part I really only have been moved by films.

The “death” or Morph on an episode of XMen. I lose it every time I see Wolverine plunge his adamantium claws into a Sentinel and screams, “This one’s for you Morph!”

Any episode of Intervention centered around a likable Black person. My reactions to non-Blacks on Intervention has me thinking I could be racist.

The death of Fancy at the hands of Mr.Biggs.

The death of Ricky in Boyz In Da Hood.

    Malcolm’s death in X.

Dumbo visiting his mother in jail will get a goon misty.

The last scenes in Graveyard of The Fireflies had bawling at a children’s party.

Forrest saving everyone but Bubba,..*sniff*…I need a moment. *Grabs a Twix*

    • “The death of Ricky in Boyz In Da Hood”… cosign
“The death of Ricky in Boyz In Da Hood”… cosign
      “Malcolm’s death in X”… cosign
“Dumbo visiting his mother in jail will get a goon misty”… cosign

“Forrest saving everyone but Bubba,..*sniff*…I need a moment. *Grabs a Twix*”…yeah that’s sad, but when Forrest is at Jenny’s grave telling her about their son = done!

      • “And he’s so smart, you’d be so proud, Jenny.” sniffle..
        “Forrest? I wanna go. . home. ”
Me = bawling on the floor.

        • *stepping out of lurkerdom*

I’ve been reading for a few months now and had to give my 2 cents all the way from Brazil:

          - About Grave of Fireflies being mentioned only once: I will assume that’s because people haven´t seen it, because it’s got to be the saddest movie/animation ever, from beginning to end. If you are ever feeling too happy, watch this to take you down a notch (or 10). But it’s a beautiful movie nonetheless;
          - Barefoot Gen: more children suffering in the aftermath of Hiroshima… do I need to say more?
          - Forrest Gump on Jenny’s grave: cosigned;
          - Rent: I know people are not too much into musicals, but the church scene (Angel’s memorial service), with the a capella “I’ll cover you”, will make you believe you swallowed an avocado seed whole;
          - Didn’t quite make me cry, but Dancer in the Dark (with Bjork) was made to make people cry: it kept trying scene after scene, throwing drama at you. I guess that’s Lars von Trier’s thing;
          - The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Disney: even with the happy ending, it has some pretty dense moments (Heaven’s Light/Hellfire, anyone?) and the opening sequence is breathtaking;

That would be all for now: I’ll try to step out of my southern corner more often.

    • I swear, Dash, I was thinking about that episode of X-Men just the other day when I was reading the last issue of Wolverine: Weapon X when Wolverine was reminiscing about Nightcrawler. He said Morph was the only one who could make him laugh.

      • Nightcrawler is not dead. He is trapped in his father’s realm as he expired while he was teleporting. He will emerge from purgatory witth increased powers and become The XMen’s greatest nemesis. (At least that is how I would write it.)

        • @Dash

Almost like how he became Belasco in Universe X and Paradise X.

          @Wu Young,

Yeah, Kurt got to come back. He really is one of the few characters that kept Wolverine grounded, especially after Professor X pissed everyone off.

    • every time i hear “a change gon come” (the sam cooke version) i get teary eyed. i can’t even watch malcolm x because i will totally lose it during the scene where denzel gets in the car to drive to the ballroom with sam cooke sangin in the background.

  27. I cry everytime I see the episode of Sex and the City when Miranda’s mom dies and she’s in the dressing room trying on bras and breaks down after yelling at the sales lady. Yeah I’m no good.

    • When Samantha tells everybody that she has Breast Cancer gets me. And as much as I hate Carrie Bradshaw, I cried in the movie (Pt. 1) when she was laying in the dark on her “honeymoon” mouring being left at the altar.

        • I cried like a fool when Carrie was in Mexico mourning the break up of the wedding. We had never seen Carrie that depressed in all of the Sex in the City shows and she acted her a$$ of during that scene.

      • I cannot tell you how many times I rewound the part where Carrie beats him over the head with the bouquet..
ONLY for the part where Miranda pulls her back and Charlotte catches her and goes, “NO!”when Big started to say something.. i think that was such a pivotal scene because we all know that Charlotte was THEE ONLY ONE out of the whole crew that believed in him..
She wasn’t nice about it, and she wasn’t bout that shullbit.. it’s like once you’ve lost Charlotte, then you’ve really lost them all..
        that’s real friendship..
        I need a moment… *blinking hard!*

        • i think that was such a pivotal scene because we all know that Charlotte was THEE ONLY ONE out of the whole crew that believed in him..

          Dude! That was extra real!

And that rallying around their friends just gives me chills… That’s friendship for yo’ ass. *blinks*

          • I cry every time I get to the scene when Miranda realizes that she wants to take Steve back so she goes to the bridge and hope’s he comes and she doesn’t see him and then he’s there. OMG no matter how many times I see that part I will always cry like I’m getting back with his ass.

    • V Renee, Yonnie 3000 and Dee

All of your references had me in front of the tube failing at holding back crocodile tears. Especially when Big back out of the wedding with Carrie. I can’t imagine what that must feel like. Miranda’s mom dying hits me hard everytime I see that episode.

    • This is a bit obscure im sure but the sex and the city episode where Samantha sleeps (and by sleeps i mean in the bathroom on the sink) with Richard after theyve been broken up for a while, after dumoing smith and leaving him downstairs and he KNOWS they r going to f***. Afterwards you can tell she hates herself and feels dirty and hes still there waiting for her to make sure she got home ok and she breaks down crying and says she is sorry…That got to me,.i never thought she had any feelings, and smith was deep for waiting!

    • That episode gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME.

In fact, as a person who lives far from her parents, any movie/show scene when there is a death of a parent and the character wasn’t there for it gets the eff out of me.

      *plans visit really soon*

  28. Tim McGraw had a (country) song out around the same time as Aaron Hall’s “I Miss You” called “Don’t Take the Girl.” I remember the first time I caught the end of the video thinking that it was the country version of “I Miss You.” It’s a really good song and tells a good, but sad story. Anyways it choked my 13/14 year old self up every single time. And thanks to today’s post I rediscovered it on youtube.

  29. i can’t even watch the Fresh Prince clip…i might tear up at work. #nobueno

on another note, did anyone peep the creepy look that “Bruce Leroy” gave Freddie before he went in for that first kiss? If that wasn’t a rapist look, i don’t know what is….

  30. Ok (be strong Dai) the ep of L&O SVU when Olivia finds Maria the 9 yr old Honduran sex slave buried alive. Man, if I ever see her predator Richard with his glasses in the blue case I’m gonna kick his azz!

    • That was one of Mariska Hargitay’s best performances in the series of the show, and if I’m not mistaken, the one that also got her the Emmy. It was just too much to watch her digging through that dirt like a mad woman to find Maria, and then finally at the end she got to her body just in the nick of time.

  31. Ok, so the Fresh Prince episode gets me EVERY time. Especially because Uncle Phil couldn’t stand Will when he came to Belair. This showed a softer side of both guys and a scene that I can imagine has been played out in the real lives of some of the people watching it.

Family Matters tried to make me choke up every episode. With the perfectly timed music and Steve always feeling sad for Laura playing him to the left and Laura always feeling sad for doing so. I think their goal every week was to bring folks to tears.

    Good post.

  32. There was this episode of CSI where Nick was buried alive and the rest of the team was trying to find him!
    …great…tears are falling!

    • You know I think that was the last episode I ever watched of CSI and it was prob the best! Actually the last episode I watched was when Grissom left because after that like what was the point :/

  33. Where do I start?

    Movies:
    1. Marley and Me – When Marley dies. I shared Owen Wilson’s pain.
    2. The Color Purple when the juke joint singer runs back to her father’s church.
    3. Deep Impact (pause) when everyone is saying their goodbyes to their family. When the daughter says “bye mommy I love you”, gets me every time.
    4. Amistad, the scene where they tell the story of what happened on the ship.
    5. When We Were Soldiers – Being a formal soldier deployed to a war zone, this one really hit hard. The scene where they told the Black Lieutenant’s wife he had been killed.

    As for TV:

These two got me the most from my favorite childhood show, The Wonder Years.

    1. The Accident – http://youtu.be/qJOoUgy20UI
    2. The End – http://youtu.be/oykOSd8ElK8

    • I started crying as soon as Marley started getting old and couldn’t do the things he use to could do. My bf was laughing. I cried for maybe 45 minutes of that movie. I was kinda embarrassed because I had to remind myself it was just a movie. I couldn’t help but think about my aging cat and started to notice her limp. so sad.

    • The saddest part of Deep Impact for me was when the woman (forgot her name, but she’s married to the X Files dude) and her dad sat on the beach and basically waited for the wave to take them out. And when the President (Morgan Freeman) said that God always answers our prayers, even if the answer is no.

    • you know, i forgot about marley and me but you are so right. that is probably one of the more underrated great movies i’ve seen. nobody talks about it but when i watched it i was like, damn is this my life. and yes, when marly dies? shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. waterworks.

    • Damn I love The Wonder Years. Kevin and WInnie, I was so pissed at the end when they did not get married. The last scene from “the accident” episode is one of my favorite from the series.

    • @Scipio Africanus

“When Michael Evans sings “You And I” at Thelma and Keith’s wedding.”

(singing) Cause, In my mind, we can conquer the world…in love…you and I….you and I….you and I…….*sniff*

  34. Cliff pushing the doorbell and it playing Miles Davis’ rendition of “If I Were A Bell”, in the final moments of teh Cosby Show.

  35. When Bodie gets told that Chris and Snoop walked Lil’ Kevin into a vacant, and the camera pans away as he’s sort of “gone” in his own mind.

  36. “are there any tv, movie or video scenes…that brought you to tears? Or better yet that you can’t watch without pretending you have allergies?”

I remember allergies getting my vision all blurred as a kid while watching an episode of Good Times. It was the episode when Penny’s mom came after her with the hot iron and they showed her pleading “no momma don’t…” I remember thinking “Poor Penny”. Damn you allergies! :(

  37. I haven’t seen those Fresh Prince & ADW episodes in years… I believe I’ll wait until I get home to watch them. :)

I had to stop watching Extreme Home Makeover because I’m a sucker. Crying every dang episode.

You know what makes me weep real ugly? The end of Return of the King, when Frodo is leaving Sam, Merry & Pippen for the Grey Havens. That scene gives me the worst headache every. single. time.

    • @Nonotthejacket

      (Love your moniker!)

You shouldn’t have said LOTR. It is in my top 5 favorite movies and I stay choked up on the following parts:

Fellowship of the Ring – When Boromir is killed by the Orcs and confesses that he tried to take the ring from Frodo before dying.

Two Towers – When Haldir (elf) is killed by the Orcs. Haldir just seemed like one of the coolest elves. *shrugs*

Return of the King – When King Theoden is killed by the Nasgul. Did that beast really have to sling him like that?? Grrrrr….

      • LOTR references:

        1. Fellowship – When Gandalf fell in the Mines of Moria. I always liked Boromir, his love for Gondor was his undoing.

        2. Two Towers – Theoden’s revival, with the help of Gandalf, is very moving. So many real life applications with Theoden. He was the most relatable character in the whole series to me.

        3. Return of The King – Theoden’s death, obviously. But also Faramir’s abuse at the hands of Denethor. A father’s contempt of his son is hard to witness.

        • @Alvin

“When Gandalf fell in the Mines of Moria”
          Yes….THIS…*sniffs*

“So many real life applications with Theoden. He was the most relatable character in the whole series to me.”
So true. I was touched at the beginning of Return of the King when he admitted to his niece (Eowyn) that he was not responsible for leading them (Rohan) to victory. He had so much pride as king; it had to be difficult for him to admit that.

“also Faramir’s abuse at the hands of Denethor. A father’s contempt of his son is hard to witness.”
My heart actually ached when Denethor says he wishes Boromir were alive instead of Faramir. Then Faramir goes into battle almost hoping to die so to gain his father’s approval. SMH

  38. When that fine-arsed Indira Varma on the show Rome jumped off the balcony after her husband Lucius Vorenus found out she’d had a baby by another man while he was fighting alondside Caesar in Gaul.

  39. Good post! Too bad that I’ve been mad emotional the past year, so damn near every movie/show has me in tears. All it takes is a lil sad music. But the ones that had me boo hooing for real are:

    1) Criminal Minds episode when Hotch’s wife gets killed. He is on the phone with her and they both know the dude in the house about to kill her and their son. So they say their goodbyes and he helps his son to hide. I cheered when he literally beat the serial killer dude to death.

    2) Lion King- Come on now… Mufasa dying was devastating and I’m still questioning why Disney would do that to little kids… I mean if I’m crying then them little kids must’ve been f*cked up.

    3) The episode of Cold Case called Strange Fruit – Young black man beaten and hanged for no reason.

    • YES on the Lion King. And even further than that…when Simba walks up Pride Rock at the end to take his place as the one true king. That effing music, joe! Jeebus!

    • Yesssss the Criminal Minds episode was ridiculous! Me and my mom were watching it and crying hysterically…especially because there was so much buildup to trying to catch that damn guy smh

    • That episode of Criminal Minds sucked. I was more pissed than sad. I am glad Hotch kicked that dude’s ass.

      • hunh?!? You can’t be serious…that episode was sooo good. Yeah it wasn’t nearly as crazy as the other ones, but it showed a softer side to Hotch so that made it touching.

        • I didn’t mean sucked as it was a bad episode. It sucked because Hotch’s wife died the way she did. Especially since it was usually everyone’s biggest worry in their line of work, if a killer knew about their families. It did show a softer side of Hotch because he could be pretty stoic on the show.

    • Yo…I teared up when I read #2. Why? Cuz my dad cried on that part of the movie. I had never seen him cry before and that alone gets to me every time.

      • Thats so funny cause I was gonna mention how it had my father crying too…but I didn’t want my whole family to seem weak. We pop caps *pow pow*

    • I forgot about Criminal Minds…me and my sister was on the phone balling! I cried more when he found his son hiding!!!

      -AD

    • That Criminal Minds episode messed me up, lol. I was whispering “No, no, no, no . . .” until he found his wife and then I cried. Poor Hotch and little Hotch.

  40. Hmmm, haven’t seen many of the episodes you listed, but I have a few to share…
Any Bleach fans here? There’s the episode where Inoue is about to be kidnapped to Hueco Mundo, and she’s given a chance to say farewell to one person before she’s taken away. They can’t know she’s there. So she goes to see Ichigo. He’s all tired and beat up from fighting Hollows, and he’s passed out, so she heals his wounds while weeping softly, sort of confessing her love for him and talking about halcyon days. Then she gets snatched away in the dead of night. Ichigo wakes up in the morning wondering why he feels all better even though he was almost killed the night before. He has a lingering feeling someone was there the night before….sigh..
I know Bleach is not that kind of show, but I was cought off guard by the moment and shed a few tears.

The movie: A walk to remember where Mandy Moore plays the good girl that falls in love with the bad boy and changes his life. The minute I started watching the movie I knew what was going to happen. I cried from then till the movie was over. Gosh I love that movie :D

SATC movie #1 where Carrie is driving away from the wedding after realizing she’s been left at the alter by Mr Big. Her limo passes his car & he comes out to meet her and apologize. She gets out in her lovely wedding dress, crying and telling him how he ruined her. She strikes him with her bouquet of flowers. It was so beautiful I HAD to cry for her…

Avatar: The moment when the Na’avi look up and realize that their tree has been totally destroyed. Despair.

Last one: MC Hammer’s video for Help the Children… I haven’t watched it since I was a wee babe, but I definitely remember bawling my eyes out when the kid gets shot.

    • I saw that episode of bleach, it was kinda sad, Japanese animation has truly sad sh!t going on in their storylines at times especially naruto and full metal alchemist.

  41. I cried watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer…a couple of times..I was bawling watching The Body even though I knew what was happening….I cried over Angel and then Spike (look, I was going through some things, ok?).

Damn, that show made me cry a lot. I watched the entire series in one fell swoop this summer, so that could be why.

      • I cried over Angel because sometimes, the *best* things aren’t meant to be. someone can be good for you in so many ways, but there is a glaring thing that’s wrong that overshadows all of that.

I cried over Spike ’cause of that whole ‘redemption’ thing. Plus James Marsters had a banging body.

The body….well no one wants to find their Momma dead on the couch….also I teared up a little when Anya realized what dead really means.

    • It did the same for me too, Dee. Especially when they yanked Buffy out of heaven and she had to explain how miserable she was on earth in comparison. Then Willow had to realize that she was being selfish to bring her back…..or the episode when Willow went wayyy evil when Tara was killed.

  42. let it be known that i cry for damn near everything in the movies….

    ::tears and smeared makeup::

movie scenes that make me cry:

-”the color purple” when celie meets her sister at the end of the movie. every.single.time.i.cry.
-”schindler’s list” the liquidation of the ghetto scene
-”when the levees broke” when the lasy is talking about how she never got a chance to say goodbye to her 5 yr. old daughter who drowned as a result of the levees breaking.
-”the boy in the striped pajamas” when both of the children are unknowingly about to be gassed to death, they are both afraid, and hold each others hands.
    -”roots” the whole damn thing.

i could go on for days, so I’ll just stop.

    • don’t forget “The Secret Life of Bees”…

From the first 5 minutes until the ending credits.

    • “the boy in the striped pajamas”… I couldn’t bring myself to watch this movie… Reminded me too much of La Dolce Vita… Oh my god, that movie has me in a trance every single time… Le Sigh.

  43. Extreme Home Makeover Edition. Straight water works. Something about people in need getting free stuff to make their life better. Oprah used to do this to me too. I boo hoo and nose blow.

Actually, I have this thing where if I see someone cry… I cry. I can’t control it. I guess because I’m sensitive an ish. (Awwwww) But if you cry in front of me, even if it’s because you missed the Macy’s friends and family sale, I’ll cry too. SmartFoxGirl still kicks squirrels though. Because she’s gansta and ish. *sips Black coffee with no sugar*

    • Yeah, you are gangsta. You drink coffee straight. I can’t do it. I need 6-7 packs of Splenda and some French Vanilla before I take a sip.

    • “…Extreme Home Makeover Edition…”

You might as well take two Xanax pills before you even watch an episode. After watching every episode, I usually wonder two things:
-Once the mortgage company finds out about the renovation, will their mortgage rate increased?
-Who in the h*ll is going to pay that light/water bill?

  44. Wow. I read your blog (and make others read it) a lot but I’ve never commented but… I had to today because I JUST watched (and cried over) the Fresh Prince “How come he don’t want me, man?” episode last week while I was getting ready for work. And I was thinking the same thing “this is when it all happened”. Even Uncle Phil had a look like.. “Oh shiznick, is this for real for real?”. That emotion that he displayed came from a real place. Best scene of the series. Hands down.

    Btw, your blog rocks :)

  45. The closest I’ve come to crying @ TV:

I have a daughter (7). My wife and I (mostly wife) are doing well financially so we spoil our daughter by most standards. She’s a great kid. Teacher’s favorite, good grades, good manners etc. But we worry that she won’t appreciate things and may become materialistic. I was watching the Little House on the Prarie Xmas episode witht he blizzard. And they have to put on snow shoes to get the presents out of th barn. I think they each got a tin cup and a piece of candy. I’m waiting for my daughter to say “that’s all they got?!!” She says: “boy Daddy, they sure had a happy day!”

Could weep right now at work if I wasn’t such a repressed a$$hole.

    • For some reason, that reminds me a real life episode where my father who is, ummm, stingy really big on not spoiling children goes shopping for school supplies with us… And my baby sister is starting first grade and all excited to get school supplies at last and stuff… So the bookstore lady shows her stuff that kids usually like and shows her a very colorful and fancy crayon sharpener (it was in a shape of a bumblebee or some such)… and my little sister (who is all of 5-6) goes: “Thank you lady, but I will prefer the other sharpener (simple basic metallic one) because it costs less money”… we were all shocked that she internalized that stuff and my dad went all soft and told her to take the sharpener she wanted… ’twas one of the realest moment of my life (I was 16)….

(shit y’all making me tear up at work! I AM A G!!!)…

  46. -Like Water For Chocolate
    -Joy Luck Club
The scene where Ann Mei had told her mother that she knew the truth of why her mother had married her second husband.
-(This is a silly one) Watching a documentary about Larry Bird and when I found out that he had disowned his own children (from his first marriage).
    -”Alex Haley’s Queen”
The scene where Queen (played by Halle Berry) bursted into the church (with the all-black congregation)screaming “I’mma negra! I’mma negra!”
-The “assassination scene” from Spike Lee’s “Malcolm X”…no need to explain why.
    -”Cadillac Records”
The scene in which Little Walter’s body was taken away and Muddy Waters went upstairs to his bedroom and then you can hear him sobbing.
    -”Lackwanna Blues”
The scene in which Nanny has returned from the hospital…

    • “The scene in which Little Walter’s body was taken away and Muddy Waters went upstairs to his bedroom and then you can hear him sobbing.”

As one-note as I saw him before, Columbus Short did a great job as Little Walter. I looked at him as something other than eye candy on my screen after that role.

      • @Cheekie

Even though he portrayed a harmonica-playing, heroin-addicted, short tempered-highly volatile person, I did find Columbus portrayal to be sexy.
I think it was the hair and the gold teeth.

        • I found him SO sexy as Little Walter. It took me forever to even realize it was him when I first watched the movie…But the whole time, I was like…dayum that gold tooth-ed man!!! Who dat be??? Maybe it was the cocky attitude. I’m a sucker for cocky.

    • That scene in Lackwanna Blues gets me too

@Mimi “I think it was the hair and gold teeth” <– *dead*

    • Columbus Short did the DAMN thing as Little Walter! I have the youtube clip of him singing “My Babe” on my BB and the vocal on my iPod. I teared up when Muddy ran upstairs to sob about Walter

I agree on that scene in Lackawanna Blues. I cheered whenb she got the Emmy for that role

  47. Beverly Hills 90210 season 2, when Scott shoots himself by accident. Then David is in the radio booth talking about their friendship. “It doesn’t matter what you say about a person once their gone. What matters is how you treat em when thy’re still here”. Powerful stuff.

Sister, Sister, when Tamera feels left out because Tia and Ray are getting closer. Then at the end, Ray and Tamera share a father-daughter dance. So sweet.

A different World season 1 when whitley’s dad brings Monica on their Christmas vacation. Whitley confides in Denise about the time she hurt her dad’s feelings by crying over corrective shoes.

    • When Josie confessed she had AIDS on A Diff. World.

Tru Confessions (TV movie) When Tru’s twin brother realizes that he’s retarded and starts crying. Tru tells hin how much she loves him.

The Pround family when Penny fights with her mom and they make up at the end. I cried cause it reminded me of my mom and I.

  48. You might be kinda soft. All of these scenes didn’t make me cry. Just the Uncle Phil one. While I cry at most things on TV, I can always tell the difference between what is cry-worthy and what’s just me being emotional. Most of these scenes are not cry-worthy to me, just because they’re not that memorable.

Anyway, it’s nice to see the softeer side of Panama Jackson.

  49. I haven’t really cried at the tele… movies however, where shall I begin

—->>>>here: 1.) Shaw Shank Redeption: When Lou(?) hung himself because he had been in jail so long he felt out of place when he was finally freed.
2.) Forrest Gump: ( I said this upthread) when Forrest tells Jenny about their son at her grave… wept
3.) Joy Luck Club: When ole girls baby drown in the tub because she’s so out of it.

Oh snap there is an episode:
1.) Grey’s Anatomy- Season Finale (y’all know the one when dude is shooting everybody up) Ok there’s a part close to the end when Dr Bailey has to tell the other doctor that he is dying OMG! And he’s like telling her to tell the girl he likes how he feels… but they don’t know (the audience does) that the girl was killed during the rampage… so f*cking sad.

    • V for Vendetta
The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons
      Edward Scissorhands
      King Kong
      Pan’s Labyrinth
…… just a few movies that made me cry but there are more.

    • “Ok there’s a part close to the end when Dr Bailey has to tell the other doctor that he is dying OMG! ”

Oh man…I didn’t like dude too much on the show, but that episode had me crying.

    • Grey’s has a couple moments for me. The one you mentioned definitely is on that list, and the season finale before that with George on the elevator. I know they pulled that ish on ER years before, but it still caught me off guard and brought me to tears.

Speaking of ER, there are just too many to list. Gant’s death, Green’s death, Lucy & Carter, Omar Epps & Mekhi Pheiffer’s (whose character’s names I can’t remember), the boy in the storm drain, etc. I could go on for days.

    • The Shawshank Redemption is in my top 5 favorite movies EVER…. That scene when old Lou hangs himself? I’m so far gone…

  50. Oops. I forgot to say which movie gets me. Ok ok. On the “Best of the Best” when the winning team limps over and gives the losing team their medals.. Omg.. I cried so hard. I was like 12 or something. It was the first movie I ever cried off.
    Scene 9 of 10 – http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=iCPo9Rt6v6Q&feature=related
The final scene (get your tissues ready “I offer myself as your brother.” MAN!! that’s when the tears start falling. I know. I know.. it’s a fighting movie but.. man.. that was emotional and if you don’t cry.. you’re corny. lol ) – http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=Sgf6IjaZIFs&feature=related

  51. Okay, kind of off topic. I watch “Why Did I Get Married” with my mother the other day. By the end (when Jilly from Philly opens her heart with that over dramatic cry), I was laughing…I looked over–>my mother was bawling… o_O

IDK about that episode of Fresh Prince…I didn’t get emotional. I laughed. every time I watch it people I try to fight back an LOL moment…maybe I’m a meanie… at that point of Will Smith’s career (at least for his role on the show) it was too hard to take him seriously….

    Things that made me cry:
    1. The end of the movie “Imagine that”…Eddie Murphy came thru for his baby girl, she cheesed, and sang The Beatles. No lie, the Beatles song sold it for me…

    2. The episode of “#1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” when Precious was investigating an American man who had been missing for 10 years. The mother came to Africa and found that he was killed in an accident, but then found out that he had married his “african love” and had a 10 year old grandchild named after the son….I was done for the last 20 mins.

    3. The series finale of:
    – The Wire
    – Oz …though I cried when Augustus and Kareem died too
    – 6 Feet Under
    – Living Single
    – Martin

I could go all day, but I’m trying to not cry at my desk thinking about it.

    • The series finale of 6 Feet Under made me cry like no other movie/show ever has. That episode was just…

      • yes! When they went thru everyone’s death! I was bawling!!!

I think I’m gonna put that in my netflix queue…

  52. Not into TV all like that I cannot remember things from I was lil on TV that made me cry with the exception of
Incredible Hulk, music was sad as he11 at the end and he was always leaving trying to find a place he belonged *sigh*
Looney Tunes when I thought Bugs was dead, (the opera joint), Charlotte’s Web(when Charlotte died),
and Frosty the Snowman when Frosty melted, LLS……….
……very sentmental child I was, still am, I just don’t show that to everybody.

    • “Charlotte’s Web(when Charlotte died),”

Aw man, when Wilbur cried out “Charlotte!!!!” and realized she was dead.
      Dayum.

    • “Charlotte’s Web(when Charlotte died),”

      Charlotte? CHARLOTTE?!!

      I know I ain’t sh*t for quoting that, but I had to.

      *bawls*

      Poor Wilbur!

    • Charlotte’s Web(when Charlotte died)

I was in 2nd grade when I watched that movie. My momma hadn’t yet spoken to me about death so this movie shattered my innocence…

    • I hate watching “Charlotte’s Web”, even when I was a kid. It has to do with the fact that I thought Wilbur the Pig was a whiny a$$ character.
I just wish that farmer would’ve made into some links and pork chops.

      • @ Legit Soul, I was always sad at the end, like why don’t they let him be, and then he was always walking down some lonely road..Bill Bixby and Lou F were great in those roles, excellent, that’s why the Hulk movies are so wack, cause the show was so good, even back in that era.

    • OMFG!!!! @ the Corner

man that was great show, son.

i wanted to cry when the dad couldn’t get it together and they said the overdosed in his mom’s basement. that was a GREAT SHOW.

and funny as hell when that guy hit that horse in the ‘hood.

      • The Corner was crucial…some of the most convincing portrayals of drug addicts and drug dependency ever. To this day, I’m convinced that Khandi Alexander is a drug addict just moonlighting as an actress (you can’t tell me that she aint on something…that ‘strung out’ look is just her natural look, I guess). Can’t say I ever got close to sheddin’ any tears, but a few moments in that series did touch a ninja, tho.

  53. When Buffy died to save the world and protect her little sister on buffy the vampire slayer
and on Supernatural when the dad died and when Dean died and came back

yes Im Black but i love some sciece/fiction/ fantasy

    • See, I didn’t cry then cause I knew her butt was coming back…granted i watched after the season ended, but even if I watched in real time, people knew the show was being renewed.

  54. umm….if we’re talking about movies, i would like to add the moment where mufasa died in lion king. that made me sooooo sad. i was looking at my parents, who NEVER took me to movies btw, like, “tha hell? why did you bring me here!? :(

and “Queen,” when halle gets her black a*s beat for being black. it wasn’t right, yall.

  55. 4 Movies/TV that made my thug hit the floor….

The Secret Life of Bees. — When they found May in the creek, and then they read her suicide letter. OMG! Tears just gushed, I could barely see the screen. I was really hurt by that ish. All because we though that boy was gonna get lynched by those white men for riding around and going to a movie with that little white girl. It hurts to type about it.

Sex And The City– When Big stood up Carrie at their wedding? And Carrie’s reaction to it? I got a little misty eyed. I can’t imagine what that must feel like. It was a little sad for me.

A Different World– Episode where Josie (Tisha Campbell) reveals she has AIDS.

    My Girl– Those damn bees!!

    • I only read the Secret life of Bees.. and never saw the movie..
it wasn’t until I read this thread that I remembered a movie even came out..

      thank you NIA…

    • The Secret Life of Bees

I watched that movie with my girlfriend who had just lost her mother to cancer… The mom was like my adopted fam in the US… Yeah, we did not do good in that theater… and I should have researched the story a bit more before going… We were out-of-control bawlin’…

  56. also, i was watching this episode of primetime “what would you do” one night and they had a scene where there was a bagboy with Down’s syndrome, who was really an actor, working in a grocery store to see if anyone would step in when people verbally abused him. then they interviewed the REAL bag boy with Down’s syndrome who said that people were mean to him all the time even though he tried his hardest to help them and do a good job. that’s when i totally lost it; he became everyman to me:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObkxEXKoklI

um…….i don’t know if it was hormones or what, but i cried.like.a.baby. like, shoulders shaking and everything–i was devastated. then i was kinda embarassed, even though i was alone. like, i embarrassed myself to myself.

also, i totally got emotional watching mike tyson on oprah. what? don’t judge me, betches.

    • I just got misty eyed reading this… I haven’t even watched the video… I hate it when people abuse people who can’t defend themselves… Hate it with a passion! B*stards!

my gangsta says it’s hormones though

    • ‘What Would You Do’ gets me all the time too – especially when it is about racism or similar discrimination: 1) they had the Mexican day laborers (actors) go in and ask for a cup of coffee but they couldn’t speak English very well. The store employee was also an actor and he refused them service and just said some really ignant things. The point was to see what the other customers in the store would do. Some joined in in the bigotry and others stood up for him. They also interviewed a real guy who this happens to regularly and I got all choked up when he was talking about how it made him feel. “They treat us like animals.” 2) they had a Muslim (head covered) woman go into a bakery – same deal where the store employee was an actor and refused her service and called her names. In both cases, I’m crying b/c of how cruel people can be, but also b/c I’m so touched/relieved that someone always speaks up and does/says the right thing.

  57. Most of my moments have been touched on, so I’ll add the one movie that produced more tears out of me than anything else in years, “American Crime”. The whole movie kilt me.

    • @Sanen85

I mentioned that movie upthread. lol But seriously, I almost wish I had not seen it. (that’s how much it bothered me). So sad : (

  58. <bDisney gets me misty quite a few times. Examples (spoiler alert!):
Bambi! Bambi is so hyped that he ran fast and he’s running back to his mom for approval and then….*lip tremble*

All Dogs Go to Heaven. Yes!

The Princess and The Frog. The lil’ lightening bug and his love for Evangeline. The lightening bug funeral! I used the popcorn napkins to dab at my eyes.

    Television Examples:

The old skool Incredible Hulk episodes with Bill Bixby hitchhiking or walking down the road with the piano playing. Such an existence in solitude! Oh, it’s so sad!

The Futurama when Fry see’s his dog has waited for him for years and he sees a fossilized version of his dog and it flashes back to what happened when he was cryogenically frozen. I can’t watch that episode anymore. It is called “Jurassic Bark”.

Any black show when the credits are run in silence.

    Other Movies:
    La Bamba
    Cooley High
Planet B-Boy-When an Asian B-Boy realizes that his parents “get it” and truly understand his love for b-boying and Dj-ing. It’s not sad, but it touches me. Up until that moment he feels they don’t understand and worries he is shaming them.

    • I CANNOT watch Bambi and All Dogs Go To Heaven anymore. I just can’t.

When Bambie makes it to their cave and turns back all happy: “We made it mother! We made it!…..Mother? Mother??”

Then his father appears and says “Your mother can’t be with you anymore” and Bambi cries that one tear in the snow and they walk off.

    • another disney tear jerker – the fox and the hound

my mom took me to see that in the theater (yeah i’m showing my age) and she had to remove me from said theater because i was crying so bad. i just couldn’t understand why tod and copper couldn’t play together anymore.

can’t we all just get along?!?!?

      *sniffle*

      • “another disney tear jerker – the fox and the hound”

Dude, when she left Todd in the forest…

        :(

Ya’ll need to STOP! *runs to bathroom in tears*

    • when they kill cochise, and preach is too late to stop them…. and the graveyard scene. dammit. i can’t …. i’m about break down at my desk.

  59. I didn’t even know TV could break me down until Good Times.

    1) Damn, daymn, daaahaam! (you tube to see the plate drop first)
    2) Penny hemmed up in the corner with Mama and the iron. “No mama no! I’m sorry, really!”

What? Tell me you didn’t fall apart.

  60. A few moments on TV tugged at my heartstrings:

-In Dragonball Z, when Cell killed Android 16 and Gohan spazzed out and went Super Saiyan 2.
-When Goku teleported Cell so he wouldn’t blow up the Earth. I was like damn, not again.
-On Burn Notice, when Fiona walked into the house of the guy that put a bomb on Michael’s door and the house exploded and Michael though she was still in the house and he was speechless when he saw her.
-On Smallville, when Johnathan Kent beat up Lionel Luther so he wouldn’t tell Clark’s secret and he just collapsed afterwards and died. I was not expecting that sh!t.
-When Bodie died on The Wire.
-I think it was the 2004 Grammy Awards and Luther Vandross had won a Grammy and they showed him via satellite trying to talk and sing after his stroke. I was in my college dorm room with 6 of my friends and my lady friend could not hold back tears. That hurt to see Luther like that.
    -Mr. Rogers final monologue
-The day that Mr. Rogers passed away. That kinda sucked.
-Oh yeah, another one from Dragonball Z. When in Trunks’ future, Gohan died fighting Androids 17 and 18 and Trunks cries so much he turns Super Saiyan. That was actually pretty cool.

    • You got me laughing at you having DragonBalls on your list. The cartoon? Mr. Rogers??? LMAO. I feel you on the Burn Notice, I got misty. You’re such a geek, I love it. lol

      • Lol Dragonball Z was like a giant animated soap opera, except with a lot of fighting and explosions. I loved Mister Rogers as a kid and I have that episode of Burn Notice on iTunes. I’m a geek. What can I say? ;)

    • DragonBall Z was such a heavy show… Really was… I watched all the series before moving to the states (used my little cousins as an excuse to indulge… lol)… but that show was seriously heavy. Japanese have a flair for the dramatic… Reminds me of this little cartoon movie I saw last year, Ponyo…. Made me bawl at the theater again…
      #IswearIamaG

      • You are so right. Anime can be very heavy and very deep. People just see that they are animated that it is like watching a cartoon like the Smurfs, but good anime can blow your mind. I know about Ponyo but I haven’t seen it yet but I am not surprised if you cried because it is a movie by Hayao Miyazaki and I love his movies. My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke. Those are some damn good animated movies.

        • I was about 10 years old when I saw Spirited Away. Till this day I don’t think any animated show/movie has ever had that kind of impact on me. I quickly looked up and watched his other movies.

He is ridiculously talented plus he writes really good female characters.

          • He is ridiculously talented plus he writes really good female characters.

Yes it does! That little girl in Ponyo was awesome and so was the mother…
Gotta add the other to the netflix queue.

        • Ponyo was great. Most of the humor is heavily based in Japanese subculture so you won’t laught out loud too much. But worth watching. Daughter loved it.

    • I cried when I saw Luffa on the Grammy awards too. You could see he was struggling through his recovery but WANTED to sing at least one line from “Power of Love” for his fans. It ended up being the same song they played at Luffa’s funeral as the pallbearears hoisted his casket on their shoulders.
<—went to Luffa's wake with a few thousand other fans

  61. I’m surprised (or maybe I am showing my age) that no one mentioned Sesame Street when Mr. Hooper died. When Big Bird asks Maria when he’ll be back, and she tells him that he won’t. He says, “not EVER?”. She says, “No, Big Bird. Not ever.”

    I was no mo’ good.

  62. The True Blood episode after Sookie’s grandmother died. After she was finally alone and started eating Gran’s leftover pie at the kitchen table and cried, lawd that did me in.

  63. Dude Dawson’s Creek? While I have seen that episode because I use to babysit my niece and she and her little friends were obsessed with the show, I can not condone anyone else watching it now. I might have to pull out my shotgun. Who the hell names their kid Pacey?

    Tiffany
    Peace, Love and Chocolate

  64. What always gets me is Pretty Women…smdh

its was on all weekend 2 parts get me:

    1) When Vivian is riding in limo from th hotel with Richard to tell Kit bye and “It Must Have Been Love” is playing in the background….lawd

    2) when Vivian is leaving her “lifestyle” and she tells her friend Kit “Take care of you”….gets me every single time…

    • O yes! The Wire finale…I cried like a newborn baby, especially when the showed Dukie doing drugs….

      The finale when

  65. I get a lil pissed and emotional during any scence where a woman is brutally beat or raped (wierd because Idon’t tear up at all during what’s love got to do with it).
Cruel Intentions when Sebastian gets hit by the car at the end.
    The Notebook
Set if off when Jada is all alone in Mexico sitting on the bed with the money.
Jerry Maquire when Rod and Jerry are talking in the hall after the Monday night game against Dallas.

  66. I gotta add “Puff the Magic Dragon” . The specials would come on ever so often like a Charlie Brown special and when he left and swam away I was a little crying legitimate_soul (since gangsta’s speak in the third person and all). Whew! They used to replay it or do Puff specials in the 80′s and I’d be in front of my TV enjoying it all and crying at the sad parts and when he left. *sniff*

  67. I know I might be the ONLY person on here that wathces this show but Supernatural this last season when Sam accepted satan to use his body as a portal and he’s beating the crap out of Dean but stops when he sees his GI Joe doll in the backseat and remember all the times he and Dean shared killing demons. Sam then takes control of his body and opens the portal casting him, satan, and Michael in the tomb. And before that when Dean said he was not going to let his brother die alone……oh snotin’ 4 days!!!

    - AD

    • You not the only one! I love SUPERNATURAL! Yes, the army men in the car (that bad-a$$ car!) saved the world! Even Dean going to see his girl and drinking jack and a beer shows he is still torn up without Sammy…

      • Girl LUV me some Supernatural…those dudes are fine as hell!!! Oh just thought of another…when Dean had to put Sam in the chamber b/c he was full of demon blood and Dean went outside and look up to the sky and ask God for help! Shed a tear honey!! Can’t wait for the next season

        - AD

    • Totally agree about Supernatural, I put that in my comment earlier. That entire finale just killed me. It was so perfect they could have ended the show there.

Also that episode in season 4 when Sam leaves Dean for Ruby and Dean is like if you walk out don’t come back. I was basically just cryscreaming “Don’t Sammy”.

Yea, I’m wayyy too invested into Supernatural.

      • oh…forgot about Forrest Gump…when he realized that little boy was his son, and when he also realized the kid was ‘not like him’.

    • At the end when they charge the kids that were picking on him!!? CLASSIC!!
And the servant of the Nothing scared the crap out of me.

      randomness:
I ’bout fell over when I saw a couple on A Baby Story who had named their son Atreyu. And they were black!! I didnt know if I should cheer or cringe or what.
      /randomness

      • Wow! @ Atreyu, but I’m not totally mad, though. The Sphinx guardians were pretty gangsta too!

    • you see!
I was watching Neverending Story day before yesterday..
I have to turn my head whenever the horse dies..
I blew up twitter with my thoughts from that movie..

“Bastian, why don’t you do what you dream Bastian.. CALL MY NAMEEE!”
      every time..
and when he’s talking to the Rock.. and he’s talking about all his friends that were lost..
“They look like big, strong hands don’t they?”
      EVERY TAHM!

  68. CROOKLYN…. get me er’ry time. when the mom dies, i just can’t. sometimes when i see that movie on, i can’t watch it.

    • Girl…you brought back memories when your said Crooklyn. That movie was good and I cried too when the mom died!

      - AD

    • Me, my mom and my sister went to see this in the theatre and I was tearing it up. They laughed at me…heartless bytches. LOL

    • I BAWLED at the scene when Troy’s Mom sees Troy without braids in the hospital rooms and asks what happened to her hair. My Mom said THE SAME THING when I was 10 and visited her in the hospital after her mastectomy (my hair is very thick & my older sister and aunt couldnt cornrow)
My Mom joked that she knew she had to stay alive so she could do my hair, LOL

  69. Okay, so if you didn’t know already, this thread shows I’m all sensitive and thangs, but I got hood tendencies. I must add “Love Actually”. The little boy running in the airport to tell the little girl he loves her. His dad having his back…..

Or when Keira Knightly finds out that her husband’s best friend doesn’t hate her, but is in love with her.

Or, when the girl leaves this hot dude she’s been pining over to attend to her mentally unstable brother. (Sarah played by Laura Linney)

Or Emma Thompson finds out her husband Alan Rickman has been cheating on her (emotionally if not all the way physical yet)…

    • Love Actually is probably my favorite alltime romantic comedy, right up there with When Harry Met sally. I loved Jamie and Aurelias story the most. I got kinda choked up when Aurelia was leaving and she tells him in Potruguese that she’ll miss him…of course he didn’t understand at the time. I liked how they fell in love despite the language barrier.

The little boy and the singer he had a crush on is probably a close second! So cute!

      All beautfiul stories, though….

    • Love Actually was so dope I bought it twice!!
alright, I bought one and stole the other one..
the overlapping stories were great.. but I love Richard Curtis as a british writer, so I might be biased..
“I don’t want to drown saving some sh*t my grandmother could’ve written..” (yeah, I know it’s not a sad scene, but she was so good..)
      “You learned english?”
      “Just in cases..”
and yes, when that gorgeous english guy is outside Keira Knightley’s apartment with the radio and the cards..
“this wasted heart will love you, until you look like this..”
      *sigh*

    • SO happy you mentioned Love Actually. I watch it year round, multiple times per year and will always tear up when Liam Neeson’s character talks about his love for his wife and then we see his love for his step-son Sam. Gosh.
Got a person feeling so emotional. Whitney. right now.

  70. Armageddon, when Liv Tyler’s character has to say good bye to her daddy and the screen went to static. Mind you I didn’t cry the first two or three times I saw the movie….it was something about the one time. I had to hit pause.

  71. Meet Joe Black…..man! With Brad Pitt playing the angel of death and trying to find out about life and love. I can say more, but don’t wanna spoil it.

Oh and Basquiat . It was the first movie I saw that put me up on Jeffrey Wright’s acting skill. However, I am critical since the movie was made by Julian Schnabel, one of Basquiat’s contemporaries and competitors.

    • Meet Joe Black – yeah but that car accident scene had me cracking the eff up. I rewinded it like 20 times. That and the scene when the girl got hit by the bus in Final Destination (pt. 2 I think).

      Is that wrong?

  72. Another televised event that made me cry:

    The Michael Jackson Memorial concert…
I was fine up until I heard the opening chords to Stevie Wonder’s “I’d Never Thought You Leave in Summer”.
I was at work at the time and I had to excuse myself, just so I can cry inside of the bathroom.

    • what about when the daughter started talking and she was like, “he was a really good daddy and….”

      :(

      :(

      :(

      :(

devastation, chile. i was no more good for the day. at all.

      • My daughter’s father is deceased. When I saw Paris start talking, I felt the tears start. By the time she turned to Aunt Janet, I was DONE FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. I was THAT shook.

        Whew.. *sniffle*

        • I kept telling myself I’d be straight as long as no one sang Man in the Mirror. Thankfully, no one did.

    • I cant listen to “I’d Never Thought You’d Leave in Summer” without thinking of the funeral.
Also when Jermaine sang “Smile”…the line: “Smile…even though your heart is breaking…”. I dont know how Jermaine got through that song
<—wanted to beat Mariah up for wearing a plunging neckline to MJ's funeral like it was the Effing Grammys!

  73. Not much of a tv watcher, but I’ll add some since I see ppl are discussing movies as well:

Glory: when Denzel gets the whip…ish is hard as hell to watch. I imagine that could’ve been one of my relatives…

Passion of the Christ: I actually still haven’t watched this for the same reason (and I own the DVD), as I’m sure ish would be almost as difficult to watch as Glory

Blood Diamond: the way bros were getting limbs chopped off in the beginning….a ninja felt a slight lump in the throat (personally, I think every rapper, established or wannabe, should be made to watch this ish over and over just to get some perspective about all that shine they sport)

Life: when Miguel Nunez’s character gets his release papers from Camp 8, and realizes that he can’t go home as is….so he crosses the gun line…and Jangalang (gotta say it twice for the full effect) goes to retrieve his body. The rest of the movie had me crying from laughter, but that scene had me like, ‘d@mn’…

    Dallas: when JR died….

  74. Miracle At St. Anna, with Laz Alonso. Laz with his foine self was good in that movie! The reuniting of him with the little boy he helped keep safe….

Inglourious Bastards (spoiler alert) When that Nazi kills that girls entire family under the floor boards. When she realizes she won’t make it out the theater…

  75. Oh man, I just thought of one more. When G Baby got shot in that baseball movie Hardball with Keanu Reeves. WTF was that man?! It’s a Keanu Reeves movie!! I’m not supposed to cry at this isht!

  76. I thought only a-holes and d-bags spoke in the 3rd person?! G’s too eh?
Anywayyyyz..I’m a punk and I cry on all sort’s of stuff. The few that come to mind is

    1) Black Beauty- I cried during the whole ending.
    2)Those damn starving children commercials
    3) Those damn ACPSA commercials-damn Sarah McLaughlin song, and one eyed quivering puppies
    4) The end of Fresh..when he’ sitting at the chess table with Samuel L Jackson with tears streaming down his face.
    5)Beaches-Nuff. Said.
    6) I Am Sam. Good God, I only watched that once and once is enough!
    7) The Joy Luck Club.
    8) The episode of SATC when Carrie saw Big with his new wife in the Hampton’s and Miranda held her hair while she threw up in the bathroom (that bastard).
    9) any episode of First 48 when a family is notified in a loved ones death
    10) That episode of New York undercover when Ice T killed Malik Yoba’s girl, and he found out she was pregnant. Man :(
    11) Philadelphia
    12) Imitation of life “How do you tell a child that she was born to be hurt?”
    13) Say Yes To The Dress- when a bride finds her ideal wedding dress and her and her mom or dad look at each other and start crying.

This is by no means a comprehensive list

  77. Im a big punk. I cry at stuff so here is my short list

    1. Those damn commercials showcasing starving children
    2. Those damn ACPSA commercials with one-eyed quivering puppies
    3. Black Beauty- pick a scene
    4. The ending of Fresh when he’s sittin at the chess table with Samuel, and his face is stiff but tears are streaming down his face.
    5. I Am Sam. Lord I wailed on that one
    6. That episode of New York Undercover when Ice T killed Malik Yoba’s girl and he found out she was pregnant.
    7. The episode of SATC when Carrie sees Big in the Hampton’s with his new wife
    8. Beaches. Nuff Said
    9. The Joy Luck Club.
    10. Any episode of the 1st 48 when they have to notify family of a loved one’s death.
    11. Sleepers when they killed “the black kid with the Italian name”Riggio after they convinced him to play against the gaurds in that footbal game. Damn that got me
This is by no means a comprehensive list.

      • Thanx but I forgot 2 of the most tear inducing movie moments of ALL TIME

        1. WHEN BAMBII’S MAMA DIED
        2. WHEN THEY KILLED MUFASA

        DAMN DISNEY MOVIES!

        • Yeah your list is good, I loved the Joy Luck Club, excellent movie…,you reminded me

“Mystic River” when they found out it was Sean’s daughter, that scene broke my heart and he just screamed out kirkin in agony…..Sean Penn OUTSTANDING actor and good samaritan , I SO love Sean Penn, all the way back til Fast times!!!

Also at the end of The Godfather 3 when Sofia died and Al, just broke down on them steps…..good loving father’s losing daugther’s, always tough to watch.

    • 9. The Joy Luck Club.

Is one of those movies where I constantly say “I can’t do this”, whenever one of these scenes pop up:

-The scene with the mom who accidentally drowns her infant son.
-The scene with Ann Mei’s mother.
-When the daughter had finally met her long-lost sisters.
-When the mom had abandon her twin infant girls.

    • 5. and 6.
I watched I Am Sam ONCE. Sean Penn played the SNOT out of that role.

I was an NYU fan. I boo hoo’d when we found out Sandy had been pregnant.

      • “I watched I Am Sam ONCE. Sean Penn played the SNOT out of that role. ”

He did. I had a hard time watching him in interviews after that. I just couldn’t believe that was the same person.

  78. “Miracle at St. Anna”
When they get attacked and everyone dies and the little boy sees his brother and walks off with him. And then at the end when Hector Negron meets the boy all grown up and the man thanks him.

    • there are certain war movies that i can only watch once..
Miracle at Santa Anna was one of them.. that was years ago, and my vision still gets blurry when I read what you wrote..
      *sigh*

    • Yup, I posted that. *speaking in vagueness so as not to spoil* I loved how gangster he was at the Post Office. He just had it ready so that if he ever, EVA’ saw that mickey fickey again…..Whew!

  79. Good Lawd I have another one..
Only because it’s on right now.. but in Jerry Maguire where Cuba gets hit.. Jerry’s on the phone with Regina King and she’s bawlin..
“my whole life is this family.. and it doesn’t work without him!”

    ok… and I’m done..

    • D*MNIT, I’m not done..
when Cuba comes out of the locker room and he’s lookin for Jerry, and they hug.. then he starts talking to his wife and telling her “I love you..”

and the ending when he’s on the tv show giving the interview and he finds out how much the new contract is.. he starts bawlin.. then he goes, “Jerry Maguire, you are my ambassador of kwan, man..”
their relatioship came such a long way

  80. YO – that Fresh Prince episode was the first time I cried at ANYTHING pop culture related. I’m so wit you on this, it gets me every single time.

The rest though…not so much. I respect your thug tho, homie.

    • Oh! I cried when I saw that! I can’t even watch it anymore, because it was that sad.

Another sports movie that made me cry: The Express

  81. That part of the Green Mile where John is about to be electrocuted and all the policemen and wardens are boo-hooin..
“I’s scared of the dark, boss..”

I read the book and still remember the saturday morning I was sitting on my bed BAWLIN!! I mean, puffy eyes, mommy rushin in, kind of crying..

    • Picture it: A recently pissed off Tenchi at her SO’s house for an impromptu southernboy’s family visit. The big head sucka, whom I heart and whatnot, had done something to tick me smooth off (don’t remember what), so I’m sullen.
We cop a squat in the family room, trying to hide the fact that we’d just promised to pluck each other’s eyeballs out with rusty tweezers, and settle in to watch Wall E, which neither of us has ever seen.
Fastforward to the end of the movie, avoiding family eye contact and both of us holding hands weeping uncontrollably at the end of the film! Chile, just embarrassing…

  82. I haven’t scrolled through all the comments so I don’t know if this one has been mentioned yet but the part in Remember the Titans when Berteer (I think) gets in the car accident and he’s laying in the hospital bed and Julius comes to visit him….maaaaaaaan, the dialogue in that scene and then both of them snottin’ and cryin’….guaranteed tears.

  83. Oh, another one, Boy in the Stripped Pajamas….from the beginning you know you’re going to cry somewhere but dammit when the two little boys got stuck in the chamber where they died and the reaction of the family of the little boy who wasn’t supposed to be in the camp when they found out where he was….I remember my heart hurting so much after watching that movie.

  84. First time posting on here, I’ve been a lurker for a while. I am emotional and I am moved by and cry for a lot of things but:
    - Like everyone so many people said in SATC when Carrie hit big with the roses and said I knew you would do this…her devastation felt so real. Lawd.
    - I saw Cooley High for the first time this summer and I broke my heart when Cocheese died (sp?)…I stared at the screen in shock for what must have been forever.
    - The song “Where I wanna be” by Donell Jones. “Betterman” by Musiq is not a sad song but it reminds me of my ex, who I apprently did not make want to be a better man *sigh*
    - There was one episode of Intervention where dude’s little sister OD’d and then within a short time his older brother Od’d and he still insisted that he didn’t need help. His parents were divorced and his dad said at one time that if anything happened to his son he would just die because he had nothing else to live for. Dude walked out on the Intervention. Then days later he agrees to get help. And then he quit rehab after 8 days. Oh my God. It broke me. I bawled like a baby. My heart aches just thinking about it again.

  85. *delurking*

Off the top of my head:
    - In I Am Legend when the zombies trick Will with that manequin and his faithful dog gets infected fighting off the zombie dogs. Then Will has to kill him… Omg, I can’t

    - And just too many scenes to name in The Pursuit of Happyness
What can I say? When Will gets emotional, I get emotional

And has anyone seen that Mtv show, “If you really knew me?” I’m a teary mess watching that show. Smh

And I flat out refuse to watch Crooklyn again. That is all.

    • When I had gone to the movies to see “The Pursuit of Happyness”, it was during its opening weekend and the movie theatre was packed with people.
So, you can imagine hearing the numerous sniffles

  86. So I’m yay late and too tired to read through the comments…but I’ll hope to add something to the discussion anyway. I haven’t cried from any of these, but they got to me (and I’m not of the opinion that crying = soft, so I’m not trying to sound hard by saying I didn’t).

Okay, CTRL-F told me that the wedding scene from A Different World was mentioned multiple times.

I’ll try to go off the beaten path a bit and mention things not from shows. Those commercials talking about animal cruelty: I can’t even watch. I’ve even desensitized myself to the ones with kids, but animal cruelty gets the “where’s the remote before my night gets messed up” treatment.

Not that I don’t have a soft spot for children, because that Kyron Horman story gets the same treatment. It’s awful to me seeing that picture of him smiling. Why him and not Haleigh Cummings or Caylee Anthony or the boy in Arizona (who was found), I don’t know. “News shouldn’t matter because there are always sad stories”…well, true. Desensitization happens, though.

Some moments that are a level below but might be worth mentioning…when Kelly broke up with Zack on Saved by the Bell, Lionel and Jenny getting divorced on The Jeffersons (okay, so I obviously saw this in syndication), the episode of Diff’Rent Strokes when Arnold and Kimberly got kidnapped, the episode of Punky Brewster when Punky was separated from Henry…

(ed. note: NBC and their sitcoms…they also had that dangone “I Know My First Name is Steven” miniseries)

…and I just can’t watch any episode of 8 Simple Rules after John Ritter’s death. Matter of fact, I haven’t gotten into any TV show since Ritter died.

  87. Okay, so we’re doing movies too? lol

When Remy shoots Deja. And all subsequent scenes. It makes me cry tears of anger.

    Tuskegee Airmen
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdxrnGeGpkE (around the 5:15 mark)
When A-Train (Cuba Gooding Jr.) gets hit and they start singing “Fighting 99″ as he goes down. Chokes me up.

    Set It Off

When they kill Stony’s brother. “What have you done?” I’m tearing up right now.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrpI1hheMEM (Cleo @ around 2:43 & Frankie @ around 6:50)
When Cleo dies . . . the music gets me. And Stony shaking her head no to Frankie as she makes a run for it.

    Boyz in the Hood

Rickyyy! Even though this clip is missing the part where his mother spazzes on Dough Boy.

I’m also gonna toss in The Great Debaters. I cried so many times throughout this movie. I’m a sap.

  88. I just saw the Freddy Brooks clip, it was definitely touching, but definitely ain’t have nothing on Will!!

I agree with the folks who said the series finale of the Wire. Duquan broke my heart! As well as Randy in season 4. I wanted Herc’s bish azz to D-I-E!!!!!

-Bay Watch- when the short haired brunette died in the storm while they were out on a boat She died just as she was telling Mitch she loved him.

-The Royal Family- (the show from the 90s with Della Reese and Red Foxx) The episode when Red FOxx died… it did me in

    • Right, just seeing your favorites in their prime can break you down. Red Foxx, Richard Pryor, Sammy Davis.

Ohhhh, I can’t forget the documentary where they filmed Lisa Left Eye’s car accident was hard.

  89. Late and all gotta come outta hiding for my two cents. This is way mish moshed.

Cleo dying in Set It Off – I can’t take it.
Armegeddon when that little boy comes round that corner to see his daddy and you know Bruce died – waterworks!!
    That Will Episode you listed
The last episode of Girlfriends – finally Joan was gonna get married and you were happy then they scrapped it.
the last episode of Little House on the Prairie where they had to blow up the town – OH PA!
The end of the Sex and the City movie one – friends!

  90. I’m a first time poster. My list is:
Cooley High when Cochise is murdered.
Cornbread Earl and Me when Earl is afraid to testify against the police in court and Wilfred forgives him.
Antoine Fisher when he meets his biological family.
Monster when Aileen is arrested after her lover informs on her.
Menace II Society when Mad Dog’s friends are murdered.
Many Criminal Minds and Cold Case episodes.

  91. That scene when Will’s father punks out again & Will’s initial reaction (of playing it off like it didnt hurt him) had me watery. Forget it when he said “How come he dont want me Man?”. Release the Kraken of Tears
The episode of “NYPD Blue” when Bobby Simone is dying in the hospital. Non Stop tears
“ER” was a cryfest, especially when Dr Greene died of cancer
When TO visited his Alzheimers afflicted grandmother in the nursing home and was talking to her on the bench. She had that brief moment of clarity and said something like “you’ll be alright son” and went right back into her fog. Anyone who has had to deal with a loved one with Alzheimers/Dementia empathized with that scene
The WIRE Season 4 had a lot of tears flowing too
A Different World wedding scene; when Mr Gaines got to feed & dance with Lena Horne; when Kim talked about dressing as a princess at Halloween and being mistaken for Aunt Jemima
The way Martin proposed to Gina
When Nate died on “Six Feet Under”

  92. I was waiting for someone to say “set it off”…that whole movie from beginning to end…oooo Lord Jesus…got me tearin up right now…

btw, Panama and Champ, y’all rock :)

  93. There was an episode of New York Undercover when a predator was going after the lieutenant’s daughter. She ran away with him and thought she was gonna be a model. It was so intense, then she shot his ass dead. I was so happy! Girl power! I felt the same way watching Untraceable.

  94. Don’t know if anybody watches Sons of Anarchy but three moments that got me are
    1) when Opie’s wife is accidentally killed
    2) when Jackson’s son is kidnapped
    3) when Gemma is gang r@ped by neo Nazis(something I never expected to see on basic cable)

  95. Oh man! 7 pounds was so sad! Even my husband was crying like a little girl…

Especially when he gave the house to the abused lady and her children…and the ending…and…just DAMN!

  96. *de-lurking*
I just HAD to comment. BEACHES. all day. every day. And the crying only happened as I grew older. Something about becoming an adult…boo.

I watch so much tv, but can’t think of what tv shows made my cry right now.

Anything that touches on sisters.. and don’t let it be 3 sisters (reflecting my own family).. will move my core .
