You mean American media has pimped out NYC, not because “it’s THAT good.” NYC is not an accurate perception on what America really is (well kinda . . . the consumerism and money hungry mouths).

You can say that for almost any city in the entire world. Tokyo, Paris, London, Dublin, LA, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, San Fran, Denver etc.

Point is: NYC doesn’t have the monopoly of “there’s no other place like it or better.” There are cities that stand on its own w/o NYC and and I would count Tokyo as “better” than NYC. You’re just saying absolutes on NYC.

@ Leila: GIven the resources that NYC has it would be rather embarrassing if its train system wasn’t 24/7. It has that type of transit line not because NYC “is the greatest city in the world” or any organic reason, but because it the population within Manhattan demands it. Without it all the boroughs would be miserable.

Being that I am a native New Yorker (and proud of it), I must say that I bit miffed with all of the hate that my hometown is receiving. But, what can I say, it is almost like talking sh*t/picking on the popular kid in high school.
But, I will admit that I am happy that most of you guys know that Manhattan is the ACTUAL city. I know way too many people (majority of them are native NY-ers) who think the other four boroughs are a part of the city as well.
In order to sound like a complete party p**per:
One of the most overrated things about NYC:
Living in NYC.
If I was given a dollar for every time I heard a freshman say that they were going to live in a nice condo/studio apartment/flat (and after they get that $60,000/ a year job) after they graduate from college, I would have had enough money to buy my school books on time.
The rent for an apartment is no joke. The best thing (and the smart thing) to do is live in one of the other boroughs, where the rent is less expensive.
