Once any song (produced by an endless number of capable crooners, dead and living) gets into your spirit, it's there. ... That said, I've never been a big fan of the R, uh, arrah, uh, you know, the 18th letter (not Rakim). But, when I went to the 2001 Essence Music Festival and they threw him off the stage because he refused to clean up his act/performance because there were families (read: kids) in the audience, my opinion of the guy was cemented: squandered talent. Like you said, P, he's a follower of the genre he created. Which is, well, sad.

I don’t give him credit for killing R&B because the beautiful thing about music is that it lasts forever. A lot of "R&B" artists have a Soulful feel to them, and a lot of "Neo-Soul" artists have "R&B" type cuts as well. I think the reason you'd have hate for the Neo-Soul label is 'cause a lot of pretentious mothef**rs use it to affirm their higher level of enlightenment...it's right up there with vegans and people who drive prius'.But that's another thread completely, just wanted to say, i feel you on that one.Peace!!

@Panama Jackson,

Good point my man’s. I've checked out the site a few times but I'll be checking you out more regularly. As a blogger myself, I get similar comments to the one I'm leaving now. Sometimes I wonder if they're blowing hot air up my ass. Then I read your sh*t and it's like, wow, maybe some can really appreciate good writing. Putting you on my blog roll as soon as I slam this period.

This sh*t is so on point and so well written.
