an impromptu slow jams mixtape comparison session broke out in the comments last friday. because i’m a copycat, i’ve decided to post my own personal playlist. these arent slow jams though, but songs i love that each represent different phases of relationships. i’m all about the panoramic. enjoy
**click the link to hear the songs**
“heaven can wait”—michael jackson
easily the most underrated song of m.j.’s career, and, if not for the distinct possibility that he’s addressing this to one of the members of junior menudo, might be the most underrated love song ever.
“creep”—radiohead
sample lyric: “i want you to notice…when i’m not around”
falling in love with someone who doesn’t even know you exist is never a good thing, but its nowhere near as bad as…
“layla”—eric clapton
…falling in love with your best friends girl, and subsequently writing a song about her which contained a piano riff that would be forever immortalized by the movie “goodfellas” and heard by billions of people.
“sweet love”—method man, featuring street life and cappadonna
sample lyric: “No doubt, you got the best trout there can be/Not an everyday, average, Chicken of the Sea, candidate for H.I.V./ You’d rather deal with monogamy/ Queen to be held, Black Mahogany”
what do you think is worse? the fact that my college boning mixtape consisted of nothing but wu songs, or the fact that i plagiarized a line from this song and made it into a poem that directly led to me getting some ass…and then played the song while i was doing it? nevermind. don’t answer that
“distant lover”—marvin gaye
the booty-call theme song
“he loves me (lyzel in e flat)”—jill scott
i think one of every man’s goals in life should be to have at least one woman love your penis you so much that she’s inspired to write something like this.
“you got me”—the roots, featuring erykah badu and eve
best rap love song ever. this is undebatable
“cause i love you”—lenny williams
can’t have a relationship mixtape without at least one crazy-ass dude in the mix. you know you got it bad when a song has no actual singing…just 7 minutes of crying, begging, and screaming
“tyrone”—erykah badu
“wildflower”—ghostface killa
no playlist is complete without the break-up songs. my personal favorite out of this bunch is “wildflower”. you gotta love a song that includes the line
“You crab b–h, chickenhead hoe, eatin’ heros/ I’m the first n-gga that had you watchin flicks by DeNiro
You gained crazy points, baby, just bein with God/ Taught you how to eat the right foods, fast, and don’t eat lard”
so, good people of vsb.com, what songs would make the cut for your relationship mixtape?
—the champ
These are definitely my all time favorites. i LOVE a good love song man.
I also love “The Reason” by Musiq. LOVE that track.
Musiq does a version of the Beatles song ‘Something in the Way She Moves’ on his second album that is absolutely magical.
Aw, yeah that track is definitely hot too. Apparently I am a closet Musiq fan. I have all his albums, I like them all and play them a lot.
I find your list…interesting. I do have to challenge your hip hop love long and put The Roots up against Blackstarr’s “Brown Skinned Lady.” THAT is the greatest hip hop love story ever told.
That Lenny Williams track is required in my household. One of the original stalker tracks. LOL.
Co-sign! Even though the whole meaning of “Brown Skin Lady” is challenged by Mos’s love of White and Asian women. Hi-YO!
I have to say, Kweli’s “Talk To You” with Bilal and the Black Star remix of Mary’ J’s “Beautiful” are also gunning for the crown. Those two dudes just have the love game on lock. BK stand up!
Lenny…I can hardly listen to anymore. I wore it out about 7 years ago during a break-up.
I hate this song too…the ex-husband used to turn it up and goofily lip sync it to me whenever he pissed me off…it was so cute, I could never stay mad…now when I hear it…I roll my eyes so long, I take a cat nap!
“I do have to challenge your hip hop love long and put The Roots up against Blackstarr’s “Brown Skinned Lady.””
you know what though, “brownskinned lady” is more of a song about women in particular, whereas “you got me” is about a particular person. it’s still a great song though, especially talib’s (who carried that album) verses
I have never heard anyone say Talib carried that albulm!!!! I think they both brought heat.
“I have never heard anyone say Talib carried that albulm!!!! I think they both brought heat.”
they both did, it’s just that mos was a bit lukewarm at times
I can see your point regarding Brown Skin Lady. But then I’ll have to raise you Common’s “The Light”. If ever there was a love song in hip hop, that is it. My boy also threw in a good one when i spoke ot him. ATCQ “Bonuta Applebaum”. That’s a can’t miss in rap love songs too.
That’s a sex song! LOL.
The songs that best define love in all of its beautiful and tragic forms, are sung by Stevie Wonder (pre-Woman in Red soundtrack/pre-sell out era, with one exception)
“Rocket Love” — Here Stevie is mourning the loss of that loved one you put on a pedestal…then broke your heart and abandoned you.
“Happier than the Morning Sun” –the enmeshment phase.
“Seems so Long” — this song captures that anguish filled stage after you had your heart broken, and you are afraid to love/trust again.
“Superwoman”– that stage of love where it begins to disintegrate and you falsely believe you can love that person back to who they ‘used to be’.
“Make sure you’re sure” — Essentially, don’t mess with my heart before you got me all sprung and sh*t. (Jungle Fever soundtrack.)
Finally, there’s “Kind of Blue” by Miles Davis…that to me is the sweetest medley of love songs in instrumental form; no breakups, no fearful or requited loves, just pure unrestrained LOVE. Also, good songs for love making. I’m sure I have others, but that’s all i can recall right now.
one more…”Heartbeats” by The Knife –i could be interpreting this song all wrong but to me this song is all about an obsessive, all-encompassing, passionate and toxic love. i love it though (the song that is).
Oh my lord, I thought I was only one up on “Rocket Love”. I remember being shocked when I heard Stevie sing ” You dropped my black ass down to this cold, cold world.”
Miles Davis wondered if anybody was gonna get with some jazz. excellent. loves some jazz specially improvisaional. monk, mingus, miles…
“Overjoyed” is my favorite!
hmm well let see
Lyfe Jennings
“Must be Nice”
“I Can’t”
“Make me Better” Fabolous (my all time fav)
Songs by Avant:
“My First Love”
“Wanna be close”

Songs by Ashanti
“Like you’ll never see me again” sad song though
“Twisted” By keith Sweat
Break up phase:
“Now You Tell me” Jordin Sparks
Ne-Yo
“Do You”
“Go On Girl”
I really dig “Make me Better” by Fabolous (the original and the remix)!
Yeah now if I can find the type of girl described in this song I will be set…
Beside every great man, you can find a women like a soldier
Holding him down
She treats me like a don, watchs for the hit
She checks where I go, even watchs who im wit
The right when im wrong, so I never slip
Show me how to move, thats why I never trip
And babygirl you so major, they should front page ya
God bless the parents who made ya
Middle finger anybody who hate the
Way we burn it up
my top break-up songs are:
-breakin dishes (Rihianna)
-lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off” (panic! at the disco) “is it still me that makes you sweat? am I who you think about at night when the lights are dim…”
-caught out there (kelis)
i’ll need more time to think about the oter relationship aspects… 0:-)
Caught Out There is definately a fav break-up song of mine.
“caught out there (kelis)”
yeah, this song and the vid are classic. almost makes you forget that kelis cant sing
Nothing in this world makes me forget that Kelis can’t sing.
i’ll be back. but “all i need” – meth and mary is hands down the best hip hop love song
ahhh yes that one too!!!!
I think these two run neck in neck in my book
AGREED!
Co-sign…
hmmmm…i can’t cosign this. i don’t know, as big a fan as i was of the wu, i just never really felt that song like everyone else seemingly did
hater.
Yep…the remix, not the original though.
1. maxwells – a womans worth (love and basketball sound track)
2.fatty koo- chills
3. naked- marques houston
4. brownskin-india airie
5. blindfold me -kelis
6. sex weed – r.kelly

I want u dead – brooke valentine
dying of a broken heart – brooke valentine
I hate you – kelis
best love song when u realize he’s the one?
all my life – kci and jojo
“I want u dead – brooke valentine”

Love songs:
Keith Sweat, “There you go telling me no again”
Wada Kanako, “Ano sora wo dakishimete” (you’ve never heard of it)
++ to Meth and MJB (and the original Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell joint)
Break-up songs:
Celine Dion: “Nothing Broken But My Heart”
Mariah Carey: “Prisoner” (minus the pathetic attempt at a rap)
Ahh… Walter Afanasieff in all his early ’90′s pop glory…
Is super lazy Friday already?!?!? Yep, good list!
Keith Sweat “How Deep is your Love” (This is the only Keith song I like. I think it’s because it has a slow groove which is good for, uh, ya know…)
Ghostface Killah~ “Camay” (She whispered in my ear that she’s celibate, Whispered back to her ear we don’t have to go there. )
DMX “Baby Mama” (Especially when X goes off talking about You’re a stupid byatch, a real f*ckin’ stupid byatch!!!! (about 5 times in a row. This song also applies to men.
)
Marvin ~Distant Lover (It HAS to be the live version, the studio edit, doesn’t do a thing for me.)
My fave Marvin song has to be “Just to Keep You Satisfied”
(He was grippin’. Fo’ REAL!)
Anita Baker~ “Rapture” (Says it all.)
Raheem DeVaughn~”Empty” (This is my newest favorite. The beat, the lyrics. Love it mayne!)
Hmmm. Somethings up with the site. I didn’t type any of that.
Here’s my real addition.
Halfcrazy – Musiq
Never thought that we would ever be more than friends
Now I’m all confused cause for you I have deeper feelings
We both thought it was cool to cross the line
And I was convinced it would be alright
Now things are strange, nothings the same
And really I just want my friend back
When I 1st heard this song I was dumbfounded. Every lyric hit home.
“Ghostface Killah~ “Camay” (She whispered in my ear that she’s celibate, Whispered back to her ear we don’t have to go there. )”
man. this shit brings back so many memories.
“oooh you sexy motherf–ker, gotdamn whats the recipe…you make a ni–a wanna….gotdamn!!!”
used to be my standard club pick-up line
from one wu fan to another.
niiiice.
I get to see bobby digital in about 12 days. I’m too crunk!!!!
Ooooohhhhhh, yeah!!
“Can you cook darling, at the stove you’re a marvin, bake macaroni, turkey wings a n*gga starvin’…”
Ghost is my favorite out of all the Wu!
I agree AkShone. I’ve seen him 3 times in concert, and he brings it. Iron Man and Supreme Clientele joints mostly.
Yeah…I used to refer to them as WU Clan aka Words Utopia Clan, because them brothas loved words…and mathmatics. You had to disect they’re lyrics and Ghost was/is the Emril of that ish!!!!
“Supreme Clientele ”
best rap album of all-time.
^^^
chuuuch!
love ghost but “wu tang forever” gotta be close.
“Only Built For Cuban Linx” > “Supreme Clientale”
Anita Bakers’ rapture album was something special
Musiq – Halfcrazy
We both thought it was cool to cross the line,
And I was convinced it would be alright,
Now things are strange, nothings the same,
And really I just want my friend back.
The 1st time I heard this song I was dumbfounded. Every lyric hit home.
2D, if the lyrics to Halfcrazy appear one more time…I’m going to uncork a fine bottle of whoop@ss! And guess who’s going to get a full glass! That’s right, sweetie… you!
It was unintentional, I promise! The words I typed didn’t post at first. There must have been a glitch or something. Oh well.
Glitch…right…
Just admit that you love the d@mn song so much that you had to post your comment 15 times to get your point across.
Halfcrazy – Musiq

“he loves me (lyzel in e flat)”—jill scott (my FAV of all time, a definate mood changer)
“you got me”—the roots, featuring erykah badu and eve
“cause i love you”—lenny williams
I would have to add
I Am Ready for Love– india.arie
I Believe In You In Me–Whitney Houston

If You Died I Wouldnt Cry Cause You Never Loved Me Anyway-Mya(Best Break-Up Song EVER!!!)
Sample Lyrics:So please don’t take offense when I say what I have to say
I hope you die, I hope you die
cause you never love me anyway(Cause you never loved me anyway)
You can get struck by lighting
Washed away by the sea
Burned in a fire just don’t bring it back to me Cause
Cause if you died I wouldn’t cry cause you never love me anyway
I Used To Love Him-Lauryn Hill
Cater To U-Destiny’s Child
I Love You-Beyonce
I was gonna post the Mya song. I love that song when I am caught up in hating a dude and trying to make myself mad enough to stay away from him.
Breakup Songs
Reminesce by Bilal
Breakup 2 Makeups by Method Man
The Notic by The Roots
Bilal Love poems not a break up tune but ahhh that lets jus be homie lover friends for now. loveded it.
why rush, why choose…
can’t be held down…
Ahh … love and hate songs.
nice list. I’d add:
You and Me – Musiq
Trust – Michele Ngedeocello
Say Yes – Floetry
All I Need – Meth and Mary
Sweet Thing – Rufus w/ Chaka Khan
Always – Atlantic Starr
Wait For You – Elliot Yamin
I have some more lemme think.
Did you really put ELLIOT YAMIN on that list? I don’t think I can support you on that. It’s not that he is not a good singer but I just can’t get past the enormity of his jaw/underbite. It’s just wrong.
The rest is on point though!
when he is singing on my ipod i dont see his face.
plus he got his teefeses fixed.
that song is about devotion. overboard devotion, but devotion nonetheless.
i had a lot more i wanted to add, but yall not gonna get on me for loving some billy ocean.
“Plus he got his teefeses fixed”
LMAO!!!!!!!! That is true but now he looks like he’s got a row of chiclets lined up in his mouth. Those things that he calls teeth, look fake as hell.
yeah they do look like chiclets (you are SO mean!)
but hush. i like the song.
Billy used to put it down.Especially “Love Zone”.
suddenlyyyyy life has new meaning to meee
theres beauty up above
things you never take notice of
you wake up, and suddenly you’re in loveeeee
You’re feeling it for real Cheryl!
I though he got his teefuses and his jaw fixed.
No?
Nope, he still has that jabber jaw.
Bwhahaha Jabber Jaw. Awe. Some.
atlantic starr got some mood music for that ass.
Good list. I would also add….
Cupid (112)
Fortunate (Maxwell)
Sweet Lady (Tyrese)
So Into You (Tamia)
Happily Ever After (Case)
All My Life (K-Ci and JoJo)
Must Be Nice (Lyfe Jennings)
Break-up Songs:
One Last Cry (Brian McKnight)
So Sick (Ne-Yo)
Turn the Page (Bobby Valentino)
I always tell people that “Life has a soundtrack”…I would say I “Love music…but, ” love” is such the understatement for my musical condition…MUSIC makes my heartbeat…so, here are my preliminary love/relationship joints:
“you got me” – the roots (this is my ringtone!)
“come close” (remix) – common ft/ q-tip and erykah badu
“orange moon” – erykah badu
“you” – raheem devaughn
“no letting go” wayne wonder
“paris/tokyo” – lupe fiasco
“prototype” – andre 3000
“long walk” – jill scott
“talk to you” – talib kweli ft/ bilal oliver
“all i need” – methodman and mary j
“brown skin lady” – black star
“the truth” – india.arie
‘u still got it” – jamie foxx ft/ common
that’s all for now…only because I actually have to work today since my week began Wednesday!
Goodeness whatchu know ’bout “don’t let the sun go down” by Jamie Foxx? It was off his first album. Just him and the piano…and he is hitting all types of notes!
To me his best song…EVER and most people have never heard it.
Akshone, You’re the f***in’ man! I didn’t think anybody knew about this joint. Jamie Foxx is a more talented artist than most but he doesn’t get the props he deserves. He is at his best when he is performin live, too.
I conceived my son to this song…
LOL!!! I aint madatcha!
Yeah, this song went over people’s heads.
So many sleepless days and sleepless nights, I spent alone. Wondering if I’ll make it…make it on my own. Without someone to hold me, with that loving desire. If not for a life time, at least for an hour…
Oh man I forgot how great orange moon was… I love orange moon. I also love green eyes… One of the best albums. Didntcha know is one of those good songs for when you’re confused in a relationship too
Great album…mostly produced by the great J-Dilla.
You can never go wrong with Wu Tang
I can’t count the number of pearl necklaces I’ve given out to ODB playin in the background
Domestic Violence Pt 2 = feel good music
Black Widow Pts 1 & 2 = babymaking anthems
“Black Widow Pts 1 & 2 = babymaking anthems”

You can never go wrong with Wu Tang
I’ve been sucking tiddies to Wu since the Protect Ya Neck promo tape
Domestic Violence Pt 2 = Feel Good Music
ODB = The Modern Day Lou Rawls
Infactuation Stage:
*Lauryn Hill – “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”
*Eric B and Rakim – “What’s On Your Mind” (House Party 2 Soundtrack) This is the classic tale of girl “playin’ hard to get”, but comes around quickly. My favorite line in the song is, “My lips so close to your ear, it’s like headphones.”
*Jill Scott – “Long Walk” The bridge to this song is lyrically a work of art in itself, “Maybe we can see a movie or maybe we can see a play on Saturday / Or Maybe we can roll a tree and feel the breeze or listen to a symphony / Or maybe chill and just be, or maybe / Maybe we can take a cruise or listen to the Roots or maybe eat some passion fruit or maybe cry to the blues / or maybe we could just be silent.”
*Roberta Flack and Donnie Hathaway – “Closer I Get To You”
The In-Love Phase:
*Heatwave – “Always And Forever”
*Jodeci – “Love You For Life”
*Mariah Carey – “We Belong Together”
*Fabolous feat. Ne-Yo – “Make Me Better”
Break-Up Stage
*Puddle Of Mudd – “She Hates Me”
*Michael McDonald – “I Keep Forgettin’”
*Alanis Morrisette – “You Should Know” Sample lyrics:
“‘Cause the love that you gave that we made
Wasn’t able to make it enough for you to be open wide, no
And everytime you speak her name
Does she know how you told me you’d hold me
Until you died, ’til you died
But you’re still alive…” I love those lines!
That’s “You Outta Know”
Correction noted.
Michael McDonald thats a smooth ass wb. perfect broken up song.
“Get to Know Ya”- Maxwell
“Blah blah blah” PJ Morton band feat. Algebra
“For Lovers Only”- Maxwell
“Tell Me” and “Mirror”- Neyo
“Moment in Life”- Musiq feat. Kindred
“If it’s Magic”- Stevie Wonder
“When Did You Stop Loving Me?”- Marvin Gaye
“No More Tears”- Teedra Moses
I meant “Say it” by Neyo.
Maxwells defenitely worth a mention. its defenitely mood music. boy did i lay my smack down to some Maxwell.
Best Hip-Hop Love Songs
Hey Lover –LL Cool J & Boyz II Men
Satisfy You– Puff Daddy & R. Kelly
Honorable mention
U Make Me Wanna– Jadakiss & Mariah Carrey (Cannon)
Lik e You’ll Never See Me Again (Rmx)– Alicia Keys & Ludacris
Hahahaha @ Satisfy You – the over-sampled-but-still-banging beat is all I ever needed. R. Kelly’s falsetto towards the end (“no he don’t, no HE don’t) is just icing on the cake
LOL!!! I love that part too! Kells went berzerk on that track. The R-uh’s ad-libs, the bridge and the hook made this song a classic!
The only thing is…Puff should have stayed home when they were recording this joint though…cause he provided absolutely zero value.
flyness Champ. Diverse musical acrobatics. …then you got the nerve to say; “Im all about the panoramic view.” hotdam boy. what lesson you on? then so many Wu references. Wu Tang should be required listening. i wanna pause in honor of ol dirty bastard aka big baby jesus, dirt mcgirt etc. etc. salute.
im back, before nickels had a chance to get that. back before you had a chance to miss me or diss me. chickens miss me till you kiss me.
panoramic view. metaphorically thats the representation of total awareness. next thing i know you gon be off that shrimp and bacon and shit and on that vegetable lasagna. fuck is you doin Champ? u really ready for this? this is not the shit they teach at “insert accredited institution here” university of old gods and goblins. radiohead’s creep was biizerks, banannas, off the planet. you know me, im in your world but not of your world. bro. i salute you.
since i see you love the Wu check out Dreddy Kruger presents…
THINK DIFFERENTLY MUSIC:
Wu Tang Meets the Indie Culture
nice lil relationship song on that joint wit Del the Funky Homosapien. very avant garde.
You know G. Khan…half the time I feel like I’m lacking the intellectual faculties to grasp what you’re talking about… but I must say your use of language is really a force to be reckoned with!! It’s fragmented and disjointed but brimming with poignant references and poetic prose. It’s like reading spoken word. You definitely have a unique linguistic swagger.
As a person who loves language, I had to give you your props, homes!
I have to agree. If you read the comments like a spoken word piece, the gates open up, pieces fall into place, [insert epiphany-related item here], and it all makes sense.
way to adjust ur intake. Champ right its mad disjointed sometimes. i just spit it out like a brainstorm stead a edit, refine, iambic pentameter, rules and shit. know the path but find your own way.
@D*Stroy and KINDRED SMILE…get out of my head…I was thinking the same ish!
@GENIUS – you write FLOW (for the love of Words) and I can feel it in my frontal lobe…stimulating…arousing without even trying…leagues below the surface dewller’s understanding…cause you get DEEP! I thought I was the ONLY person in the world that even knewwho DREDDY KRUGER was…and DEL…I swear…you make my mind smile!
yeah man. soon as i came in the room i knew u was good folk.
my ramdom quote
most only know bits and pieces of pieces and bits. beholdeth he who sees beneath the deep wonderous and amazing things.
thank you. mutual respect.
yeah, reading his comments sometimes are akin to trying to read gertrude stein’s “tender buttons”. it’s like he’s speaking another language and shit.
for real though, thanks for the compliments.
lol…i aint messing with the vegan lasagna though
no you didn’t reference gertrude stein. mister champ, you so ‘special’.
doin my homework on gert and tender.
‘since i see you love the Wu check out Dreddy Kruger presents…
THINK DIFFERENTLY MUSIC:
Wu Tang Meets the Indie Culture’
i downloaded this a minute ago. it’s asi, asi, but right now i’m just disappointed in any wu-release that doesnt involve the words “ghostface” and “killarmy”
I honestly can’t f*ck with the Wu anymore. To me those clowns have been garbage for ages. And in the year 2008..they are utterly irrelevent.
Speaking of Ghostface, though…remember that song “All that I got is you” with MJB. Man when I first heard that joint, I almost broke down into tears…on some thug sh*t though.
“All that I got is You” did make me cry.
Real Talk most of new WU is straight garbage. I’m gonna be 90 years old still waiting on Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. 2. I’m still gonna be disappointed. Meth had Tical, everything after that…crap. GFK has consistently produced solid albums, with the exception of the Big Doe Rehab.
ODB was solid, but he’s gone RIP. Raekwon came with the one classic. GZA had one classic as well.
RZA—I cut for his production, period. He could produce a copy of the yellow pages, and I be down with it.
Two words: Liquid Swords
We must hang out. ^^^
GZA
heat
asi asi, that sounds proprietary. do explain. hate ur less than enthused but if u got the whole album jus listen to it when u dont have a taste for anything in particular. might be a couple on there u can glow to. Slow Blues (one of my favorites), Cars on the Interstate, Still Grimy, Street Corners etc
sunzinni the flame
byata (ill chick)
bronze nazareth
solomon childs
timbo king
u god
rza
etc.
Had to switch it up on y’all @sses:
Heaven– Brian Adams
Faithfully- Journey
Hard to Say I’m Sorry- Chicago
If you leave me now- Chicago
You’re the inspiration- Chicago
With you I’m born again- Billy Preston
November Rain- Guns n Roses
I Go Crazy- Paul Davis
If you don’t know ’bout these joints…find out or shoot yourself .
November Rain was my junk!
“…my junk”
LMAO!!!! I haven’t heard that in ages! LOL
I’m country…I say it daily!!
Journey?! YESSSSSS **bows**
You officially won my heart! I have to throw in Always- Bon Jovi
Foolish Heart-Journey
Love Song-Tesla
Whatcha know bout those?
Love Is On The Way~Saigon Kick.
Jeah!!!
what about CRAZY by Aerosmith??
“Faithfully- Journey”
speaking of journey, “dont stop believin” has been in my head all day long
Champ, that track was a hit for real! I’m listening to it right now….it gets me so charged-up… I almost threw my computer through my boss’ office window. Doesn’t it make you want to put on some Levis, Durango boots and a leather motor cycle jacket–then start a cross-country motorcycle trek!?!? or perhaps its just me.
“Open Arms” was a killer too.
nicely diverse. i jus got thru listening to som Eagles.
So many, but this brotha is so dope and underrated…I equate him to a male Jill Scott (well, other than Maxwell) and that is Eric Roberson.
Pen Just Cries Away-
Cause when I share this with ya, you close your eyes and listen, my words will paint your picture and you give me what I’ve been missing (give me what I been missing) and if you relate to this feeling, then you and I are healing….I guess this is our song(I guess this is our song)
I try not to write a song so sad, when you gave all you had and it still goes bad. It seems the pain just shows up on the pad as the pen just cries away…
This WHOLE CD (…Left) is an entire relationship summed up in 14 tracks.
AAAAAWWWWEEE MAN!!! Akshone…you nailed this one! Eric Roberson is probably my favorite artist, right now. He isn’t a spectacular singer but his songs are on a different level (and the vocals are strong enough to carry the tracks). No singer songwriter is putting down racks of this calibre including Jilly. Def Ears is probably my favorite joint of his.
Well done, Akshone! You’re on your game as usual.
A alike…B alike…I guess we C alike..LOL!
I agree…this dude writes songs on how dudes REALLY be feeling. Like I can listen to his music and his words mimic my thoughts. Man, that “Couldn’t Hear Her Over My Music”…was literally my life about 4 years ago…it was creepy.
Awwww, I had to scan back through my Ipod to listen to Def Ears (The Vault, Vol. 1.5)…man, another one that hits home for me. This dude is a BEAST…aight, I’mma quit jock ridin’ (LOL).
Yeah man this guy is really the truth. I hate to jock ride, too. Haaa… I just had to listen to “Couldn’t hear her over my music”! I have to take back what I said earlier…this song may be his best work. (other than when he wrot “previous cats” for Musiq)
just when I think I can’t e-love you anymore than I do…lol…you come through with Eric Roberson!! OMG! (shaking my head, eyes closed with one hand in the air) you are killing me softly over here! lol
*Blushing, while trying to look hard in my B-boy stance…*
Erro is the truth. We own ALL his CDs. And we can’t say that about everybody…
True…I caught him when he came here to Atlanta at the underground. Great show!!
Aight…I’m REALLY through jock ridin’ now (said in my Riley from the Boondocks voice)…
BOOOOOOONDDDOOOOOCCKS!!!!! lol…I am going to go shopping…I mean on my lunch break…don’t be too funny while I am gone…takes FOREVER-EVER to catch up on this FUCKERY!
I find it hard to believe that no one’s brought up Tweet’s first album. Best Friend w/Bilal? Complain? Heaven?
Best friend of mine, we’re closer than close
Something very rare to find, we’re opposite sexes
We can talk about anything, that’s why I love you
And it’s hard to try to hide what I’m confessing
That I can’t help it, I’m so into you
You send me to the sky
Keep me breathless, oh I’m wanting you
And I can’t deny it
I want to be more than this
YOOOO!!! Kindred…you must be pilfering tracks from iPod for real! That song is one of the best songs ever. Tweet shouldn’t have let Bilal get on that track though cause he thouroughly outshined her. Bilal’s range and vocal texture gave me chills.
@ KINDREDSMLIE…yeah and “Always Will”…damn! I can’t believe I forgot that one…it’s in my changer in the truck RIGHT NOW…good job hunny luv!
“Anyone Else But You” – Moldy Peaches
It’s the theme song to the movie “Juno” – kinda quirky but being that I’ve been a nerd most of my life, it’s fitting for many of my past relationships.
Monk,
I just rented Juno over the weekend, because I wanted to see what the fuss was about…great movie and I’m gonna get that soundtrack too. The music in that movie was qwerky, but the nerd in me likes that too. Plus, I plan on taking some acoustic guitar lessons soon as I can find a cool place to go to around the city.
I wish we had more well-written black movies like that. “Juno” deserves Picture Of The Year honors.
Love Songs:
I really don’t have any good love songs to add to the great ones already posted. So as far as that goes it’s a big ol’ CO- SIGN.
Break Ups:
Charlene – Anthony Hamilton
Please Don’t go- Boyz II Men
In the End- Linkin Park
Suicide- R. Kelly
The Thrill is Gone- B.B. King
Come Back Baby- Ray Charles
“In the End- Linkin Park’
an underrated gem
Totally agree
Kels – womans threat
and I forgot THE PANTIES – MosDef… this song makes me feel SO sexy!
I just want you to
Relax
Ease into it
Baby slow down, just take your time
You and me goin’ be here for a while
Okay
Baby don’t rush this, take your time
You and me goin’ be here for a while
Okay
I got so much that I want to do
I just want to be close to you
Okay
I got so much that I want to do
But I can show you better than I can say
Help me jog my memory…which CD is this from?
The New Danger…
I have a burn of this album and never new what the name was. I’ve been groovin to this for like the last 3 years. This and the Boogie Man song get me over every time.
I promised myself that I was going to get some work done today… so much for that. Y’all done got a n*gga started:
“When will I see you smile again?” — Bell Biv Devoe
I wanna luv u — Donnell Jones
At your best (you are love) — Aaliyah
Who you gonna run to– Xscape
Hey you– Floetry
CORRECTION:
*”who can I run to”– Xscape
my bad.
“When will I see you smile again?” — Bell Biv Devoe
I still have this CD.
That cd is a collectors item…well… maybe not… but it should be!
I can’t believe not nann (word to Trick Daddy Dollas) person has brought up the love of my life since I was a snot-nosed kid…the illustrious Sade!!
- No Ordinary Love
- Like A Tatoo
-Cherish The Day
-King of Sorrow
Man, I could go on and on…even her band’s first release – Sweetback…classic. My parents used to smoke trees in the 80′s to Sade…maybe that’s why I feel so much infused love for that woman and her music.
Sade – “By Your Side”
Such a BEAUTIFUL song. I want to feel that way about someone one day.
I really felt you on that one AkShone!
I saw live several years ago…she was beyond amazing.
I’m green with envy, Kitsune…green!!!
I did, however get a chance to see Prince in concert and it was magical…I mean on some “purple-horses running-on-thunderous-clouds-while-sprinkling skittles-amoung-the-masses-in-the-arena” type sh*t (neux heux meux)!!!
Whilst wearing 100% Italian Silk imported Egyptian Lace!
Now that I think about it, I don’t remember seeing “Adore” on this list. It should be!
Kitsune….TAKE IT BACK!
Kitsune, This response was to your Xscape comment.
VSBs site is going wild today. Some sort of glitch in the matrix.
LOL! You guys forgot to mention that Prince was also probably wearing six inch chromed-out stillettos.
He wouldn’t wear heels that didn’t match his pants. You know his pants & heels always look like a one-piece…like he’s a professional ice skater. But I love him anyway. Why you hatin’ today D*Stroy? You get a pass for your co-sign on “Faithfully” though.
LMAO!!!! You are so right about Prince’s uniformity! HAAAA
That is f*cking hilarious! LOL! AND how was that hating? I was just pointing out a crucial detail element of his ensemble…and I just so happened to get the color of his stillettos mixed-up. dang!
Aw, don’t spoil my love of women and their excellent choice of footware.
P gets a pass though, but only he could pull that off!
“I mean on some “purple-horses running-on-thunderous-clouds-while-sprinkling skittles-amoung-the-masses-in-the-arena” type sh*t (neux heux meux)!!!”
BTW– This comment is the funniest sh*t of the day!
I concur!
For some reason I could never get into Sade.
Have you heard Day26′s album? I am almost ashamed to say it but… (*lowering voice to a whisper*) that sh*t is hot…for real.
D*Stroy….I’m so with you on that undercover Day26 admiration. “Are We In This Together” is my jam! I love the concept.
Thanks Precious…I thought I was riding solo on this one. Nobody believes me until they hear the album.
“Are we in this together” is a hit. My personal favorite is “Co-Star.”
Whhhhaaaaaatttttt!!!!!! No Sade???? D@mn, D…what went wrong…
On that D26…Yyah, I got it (cyber-jacked it)…I was impressed…not 112 impressed, but it is hot.
Her voice just doesn’t do it for me. She doesn’t do anything particularly vocally impressive.
Riiiiiiight. But Tiny from Xscape is he truth huh! LMAO! Me thinkest not…
Look Kitsune, you aint gonna just disrespect Xscape like that, to my face! Actually I think they pretty much suck too. But that one song was a d@mn hit!
Could never get into Sade D*Stroy?!?! Blasphemy!
Honestly her voice is so monontonous. The last time I listened to one of her “hits”, I had to pray to God to take my life and end my suffering. She sucks.
I feel the same way about X-scape.
Blasphemy, indeed.
a couple more

Anyone have a freelink to this song? I love it…on some true down south sh*t, Young Buck did an ill rendition on his Welcome to Cashville CD.

I think it was GOODENess who listed The Truth by india.arie. I love this song and I just listened to it and remembered why
And even, the things I don’t like about him are fine with me
Because its not hard for me to understand him because he’s so much like me
And its truly my pleasure to share his company
And I know that it’s God’s gift to breathe the air he breathes
To feel THIS way about a man. Mercy…
