President’s Day

Celebrate yo’ President.  If you have to work today, write your Congressman.

Or at least take a REALY long lunch break.

Take a shot of that Presidential Hendog or chief a little bit of that Presidential.

We’ll be back tomorrow with something fun and brand new and fun and some new news of the new new variety.

The kid is back in effect mode like Al B. Sure.  And I did used to have a crush on Dawn from En Vogue.

  1. No me digas! I work in the media so I don’t get any holidays off. Nor do I get a lunch break. So I’m very sad right now that I don’t have a significant post to read to occupy my time. But happy Presidents Day to all who can enjoy it. May the Obama family practice the methods of procreation tonight. And maybe even the rhythm method. I’m a little tipsy right now, so if I don’t make sense, please forgive me. Good day to all my VSBs and VSSs.
    Muchos besos!!!

  2. So the one day I have the freedome to comment the way I want there is no topic!!!!! What the..???? Champ, Panama, Liz….You all suck!

Now I have to find another way to waste my day, darn it!

  3. doesn’t really have 2 L’s? yep, sure does.

I’m working, because I volunteered to work, so that shows I probably am slightly off-kilter.

I wonder how much my dad donated to the Democratic Party for Joe Biden to send him an autographed photo of Obama being inaugurated. But its autographed by Biden. I was like ummm how is Biden gonna send out photos of Obama getting inaugurated, and have HIS autograph on it?

    • @Cheryl,

I was like ummm how is Biden gonna send out photos of Obama getting inaugurated, and have HIS autograph on it?

they dont call him “joe save a buck” for nothing.

actually, i have no idea whether or not anybody calls him joe save a buck

  4. Umm… since when did people start taking President’s Day serious as a “grown folks off work” day? I work in a nonprofit and we take the most random holidays off (including the Inaug of Prez O) but we here today, which lets me know, President’s Day ain’t sh*t.

I don’t approve of this lack of post. *hmph*

And Champ, I best not see “approve deez”

  5. Yo i feel like everyone working should just start their own post topic today and we discuss this amongst ourselves.

    I’ll start:

I was watching this movie on the civil rights movement and the bus boycott in Montgomery in 1955, and it really just occured to me that yo that was only 50 years ago. 50 years later society as a whole looks back on that time like really grandma? How does something like that even go down? Like really y’all were cool HAVING to sit on the back of the bus? Anyway it got me thinking, what will our grandchildren look back on us 50 years from now and just not understand how that could be. My shortlist so far…

    1. Obesity – I truly believe 50 years from now, almost every “fast food” will be healthy for you and still delicious. Our grandkids will be like wait y’all actually ate fries that were 600 calories???
    2. FICO score – Think about this. This little number controls pretty much every aspect of our financial, social, and professional lives, yet nobody knows exactly how its calculated, plus it takes months to get it up, even if was dropped incorrectly, yet only a keystroke to make it plummet. And the only people that seem to know the formula work in two mystical corporations, that have better IT security than NASA.
    3. Gay Marriage – I mean I’m not sure what else to say here
    4. Toilet Paper – So we can chat in realtime on video conference with someone in the villages of Nepal, yet we still use parchment paper to wipe ourselves???? This actually might be the most embarrassing thing I have to tell my grandkids.
    5. Gas Guzzlers – I had to drive my uncle’s Durango this past weekend, and filled up twice in the course of 3 days. I’m like wait, I can’t believe he actually paid money to buy a car that keeps you within 25 miles of a gas station at all times. And we’re only 4 years removed from when he got the car. I can’t imagine 50 years from now.

Anyway my fellow working VSB’s and S’s what else?

    • @Dorian G.,

Good questions, Dorian! I’m especially with you on the whole TP thing. I’m all about a bidet… and it’s more eco friendly because there are less trees chopped down. I think our whole way of life will be completely different 50 years from now. I think the days of the long commute to work will be over… people may just have to go to the office like once or twice a week.
-I think the days of females being almost second class citizens will be a thing of the past.
-I think the days of the United States being protectionist and greed mongering will be over

    • @Dorian G.,

hmmmm. I don’t know. But you bring up good topics. I ’bout died at #2.

    • @Dorian G., Ditto on the Gay Marriage thing, I think my gkids would look back at our time and say “why couldn’t gays get married?” Like how we looked back and was like “why can’t we all get along?”
On the tip of the gas guzzlers, they would defenitley say something bout our not so eco friendly-ness.

    • @Dorian G.,

Like really y’all were cool HAVING to sit on the back of the bus?

i think it wasnt so much about being cool with it as much as it was about feeling powerless and unable to enact change. this feeling changed after the war though.

      • @The Champ, i think it wasnt so much about being cool with it as much as it was about feeling powerless and unable to enact change

I think this is it in a nutshell.

  6. What i want to know is “Who gets President’s Day off and can I come work with YOU?!?!”. My son had school today… Is this a real holiday?

    • @pgh muse,

I thought it was a Federal Holiday. The City Hall here in Chicago is closed and I think banks are closed today, but I’m not entirely sure about the banks.

      • @Cheekie,

I think it is federal. I’m feeling a couple VSB withdrawal symptoms… alla da sudden. I’m used to coming to work and trying to balance looking productive, actually being productive, and reading VSB all at the same time. I’m starting to twitch a lil’ bit lol…

        • @pgh muse,

Co-sign on that exact situation. I’ve mastered the “looking productive” act. I mean, since my job is 90% working on the computer, it makes it easy to appear productive while not being much actual productive. ;)

  7. In honor of the first President’s Day that means anything during my lifetime, I am going to stimulate the sexual economy of my house. That is change I can believe in!!!!

  8. I’m at work, too, gettin my time and a half. I would’ve done the “This Black folk holiday” thang like I did with MLK day and the Inauguration, but there’s too much 2520 on President’s Day to truly claim it, IMO. Yeah, that’s how I rationalize up in here. Besides, I want extra money. Barack Obama endorses that.

      • @The Champ,

Yeah, this is the first holiday I’ve worked since I’ve been at my current job. I’ve been meaning to work at least one holiday but I always had something to do and/or going to work on that particular day was against my principles. I work with a UK office so most holidays we have here don’t fly by over there so work is still flowin’ so somebody has to be here. My coworkers say it makes a big difference on the check. Yessir.

    • @pgh muse,

I used H&R Block Free TaxCut last year and I thought it was cool. I was thinking about switching to Turbo Tax, but I’m already familiar with the H&R Block so I figured, hey, why switch? But, I have heard good things about Turbo Tax…maybe I’ll try it for next year.

      • @Cheekie,
I’ve heard good things about H&R block’s software… but I love Turbo Tax. I swear, it will take problems of major proportions to get me to stop using it. I’m sold.

        • @pgh muse,

I must know more about these things. I was in Target one day looking at them and I just wasnt’ sure. I always feel like I’ll do something wrong and then The Man will come after me. I need people. lol.

          • @SouthernGirl is at work.,

It’s great and easy. If you don’ t have a lot of deductions and things to itemize you can have them done in 30 minutes. The hardest part is prolly keeping all the papertrail to back up what you claiming and whatnot.

  9. Yeah, I could have used a vacation day and taken the day off in a nods to the Prez. However, I am sure he would agree with my decision to come on into the office and spend the day reading and posting to blogs all while getting paid for it.

  10. President’s Day, Shmesident’s Day….I’m sleepy!

A bobby pin in my hair is too tight…

The gum I’m chewing is beginning to lose its flavor…

    That is all.

  11. So speaking of taxes…I st0pped paying my student loans with any regularity like 4 months ago and I’m scared that I’m going to default… more than that i’m scared that i’m going to get garnished or wage attached! it’s frightening.

    • @pgh muse, call them now and ask for forbearance. forbearance allows you to claim a certain grace period based on your other financial obligations or situation. if you call them before they take action, it will work out better for you. just find out what options you have. everyone is hurting.

      • @Miss Patterson,

Ms. Pattiecakes, you sweet, kind woman! I’m all out of forebearance time, and I cant defer them. the only final option I had was to pay the interest only… and i didn’t pay :( I thought I still had some time but i don’t. i haven’t paid them since thanksgiving… I have to call them though. 2morrow… sigh.
