Of Course The Officer Who Killed Philando Castile Was Acquitted, Because Nigger Hunting Season Is (Always) Here

I’m trying right now to find the right words to articulate the surreal inevitability of police-involved killings like this and the verdicts that follow. And I am not able to do it without repeating the millions of words I and countless others have already said when trying to find the right words to articulate the surreal inevitability of police-involved killings like this and the verdicts that follow. And it’s not just the words that are repeated. It’s the phrasing. The points. The punctuation. The pivots. The references. The rising action. The angles. The quotes. The climaxes. There doesn’t seem to be much of a point in not making the entire process templatic, and changing/inserting relevant details about the city or the cop’s name or the number of children the murdered Black person left behind when necessary. After you’ve skinned enough cats you eventually run out of cats.

Still, I’ll try. Philando Castile is dead and the police officer who killed him is free — acquitted of all charges by a jury of his peers — because it’s nigger hunting season and that’s what’s supposed to happen when something is in season. You buy a gun and some camo. You stalk them. You hunt them. You shoot them. And if the body’s big enough you get a trophy. (Or perhaps just a raise.)

  • Effrom Robinson

I’m just livid about this whole case. This is yet another case where we can see that we don’t matter to America. If a black person makes anyone feel uncomfortable, it is always their fault whether it is suspension of school to being murdered by the police, it is always the black person’s fault.

    • LadyDee

So true! How does ME just existing make THEM uncomfortable and that’s MY fault?

White people don’t really care about anything in the news lol

      • Effrom Robinson

That’s my alma mater. I just shared that with FB friends today. This is par for course in our school system. There are a lot of white people who deny there is racism because the town votes 80% Democratic. *eye roll*

        • cheddachasa

I live in Montclair and it’s the same thing here. Like Democrats and/or Liberals can’t be racist.

          • I_AmU

The town that has previously been lauded for it’s diversity? I’m shocked! The North East is the capital of Wypipo supremacist groups.

          • John Dawson

I’ve been saying that about Chicago for years now.
Conservatives DO NOT have a monopoly on racism. Just look at Chicago the most segregated city in the USA.
A mayor endorsed by former President Obama is a racist.
Closing 50 schools in the African American neighborhoods.
Allowing a Chicago Police Officer to get away with murdering a 17 year old for 13 months so he could win reelection.

        • cheddachasa

Props to the kids that go to Columbia. I’ve been seeing a lot in the news about their activism.

          • Effrom Robinson

The one heartening thing about growing up here is that there is no shortage of people that will take a stand. I can say I had a rude awakening to Capital Letter Whiteness when I went to college. But the sad thing is we are starting to get Brooklyn hipsters moving into the community, so the racist denialism is more fervent now.

I think it’s simple, when a community is 30-35% black, but the high school is majority black, the racism is quite apparent.

            • Blueberry01

Where in BK do you live?

              • If he’s just starting to get hipsters I’m guessing Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Flatbush, East New York or Brownsville. The other Black spaces in BK have long since been infiltrated.

                • Blueberry01

The hipsters are making their way to ENY and the Ville?!?

                  Wow…

        • Dougie

CHS is also my alma mater. My younger brother also went there and one thing I noticed was that the tolerance level of the faculty has declined over the years as the community moved away from the arts and tech classes (maybe I’m dating myself I graduated in 2003).

What’s dope is that my senior year there were many, many protests against the New principal who was Darth Becky level wypipo (she eventually got fired for being Darth Becky), and it seems that the activist spirit hasn’t left the community.

I’d love for the names of these teachers to be released.

          • Effrom Robinson

I graduated in 2000, before Darth Becky, but during the “you get a new principal every year” era. I am quite astonished the school system moved away from the arts so much, but at the same time not surprised. The school got blacker and all of a sudden that brings out the finger pointers that say, “We need higher standards in the school.” On the flip side, they get scared if they see too many Asian immigrants because then they demand the kids get less school work. It’s all about keeping the 2520s on the top.

      • I_AmU

Wypipo are inherently dangerous to Resilients health and well being. It’s embedded in their psyche. No matter how progressive/liberal/dating/married to etc….They naturally fall back into their innate white privilege. Not too long ago crosses were burned and racist graffiti was the norm in South Orange/Maplewood. Now they’ve been replaced with signs stating “Stigma Free Town”. Really though?

      • CheGueverraWitBlingOn

The entitlement and privilege of even thinking to voice this sentiment outside of your own being is staggering in its audacity and lack of introspection.

      • grownandsexy2

I wonder if they even know what real fear is. What black people felt when they were about to be lynched . . . . . . . . being dragged to the rope, knowing they were about to die. That’s real fear.

Bill Cosby is about to get off.

Mine can’t. It’s just terrible.”

                • I_AmU

Respond passive-aggressively. Each time she equates her animal to your precious son’s life commiserate with her by asking her a million and one questions. Who’s the animal’s primary care physician, does she have an HMO and need a referral to take it to a specialist or a PPO. How much are her co-pays for brand/generic meds. How many days has she called out at the last minute to stay home because her dog was ill. Who stays with the dog when she can’t miss work. How many nights has she stayed up all night with her dog either because it’s sick or she’s worried about what may happen to it she can’t sleep. Never refer to the animal by name just by it or dog. Ask all these questions sincerely and earnestly. She’ll be confused and tilt her head to the side just like her dog. At the very least you’ll get to laugh at her tomfoolery inside your head while building your immunity to her wypipo shenanigans. In no way shape or form are you responsible for attempting to enlighten her about her ignorance.

                  • Junegirl627

don’t even go that far tell them “don’t act like my child is the same as your pet. If pet dies it gets baked in an oven and no one cares….. oh yeah thats right i’m black so if my baby died you wouldn’t give afuck.”

                    • I_AmU

And Darth Becky would be filling an HR complaint stating she threatened to kill her dog. You, me & others would have shut her down during her first transgression. But employment provides the basics – food, shelter and prayerfully healthcare so it is valuable. I was providing a possible solution as a salve to her wounded psyche at the expense of the insensitive buffoon. Use her co-worker’s ignorance as a weapon against her, she keeps her job and soothes her soul.
I’ll meet you there in the parking lot though to handle it. We don’t work there.

                    • Junegirl627

                  • Another Man’s Rhubarb

You know what’s crazy though? I promise she could answer all those questions– which leads her to believe there’s equivalency. The difference is the fact that no matter how much we love animals, we will never be the same *species*!!!!! Gosh!
A dog is not a human being; especially one I carried in my body for 3 months shy of a year. Stop.

                    • I_AmU

You know she can. I hope she can at least laugh at the lunatics expense.

I had a cat. He got a brain tumor that caused a minor stroke. the doctor told me it was operable but they would have to remove part of chipper’s brain and he would experience partial paralysis. They also told me that the stroke made him go blind. So I got pissed and asked why you they even offer this as an option? He’s too sick and unfortunately he was strong enough to survive something that should’ve killed him and ended his suffering.

I said ” who would ever choose the surgery” The Vet said “Enough that I have to give you the option to avoid getting sued. You’d be surprised how many people opt for the surgery in this situation”

                • CheGueverraWitBlingOn

I always recognize the kind of people who are more likely to care for and love a pet, who can’t differentiate their worth as a human being, than another person.

                  • Another Man’s Rhubarb

                    Yep. Something is legitimately wrong.

              • Brother Mouzone

I wonder if she would have said that sh*t to a white woman about her white child.

            • Wise Old Owl

SMDH….once had a Becky Coworker inform me that she loved her dog as much as she loved her new born child…I lost all respect for her as a mother and human being…also, pray for Arnold as he may be a victim of an interspeceis relationship with his owner/mother…

              • Another Man’s Rhubarb

They kill me with that dog = human crap. I can’t be friends with people like that.

And yes, prayers for Arnold. Although, he’s treated with more kindness and compassion than most of us on this site probably are.

            • Jessica Moore

This happens a lot to me as well since I am type 1 diabetic and people love to compare me to their diabetic pets. I’ve never had to wonder if the comparison was about anything more/less than the shared disease itself. I pray that this person you work with is just making an insensitive link with a similar illness (not asking what it is as privacy should be respected). Very sad that the world isn’t a more kind and enlightened place. Yet.

              • Another Man’s Rhubarb

              • Another Man’s Rhubarb

                I mean, nope. Sure don’t.

            • You should be legally allowed to slap her. That was very inconsiderate.

            • Junegirl627

I would tell her “you do realize you just compared my child to a dog right?” and then say “btw it did not go unnoticed that you think that dealing with your sick animal is less stressful than dealing with my sick child” and no matter what the response is repeat over and over til they get or get out ” you do realize you just compared my CHILD to YOUR DOG right?!” Then when they say that their dog is like a child to them repeat “you do realize you just compared ANIMAL to my ACTUAL HUMAN CHILD right?” and don’t let it go until you receive a real apology. something along the lines of “What I said was callous and wrong. I should never intimate that there is a commonality between your child and my pet, i’m very sorry”

              • Another Man’s Rhubarb

You’re so right. I go around and around in my head about the best way to deal with it. I am the ONLY person of color a lot of my coworkers even know. And my kin is far away so I feel verrrrrry much alone in this. That’s why I’m so grateful for this site and all y’all.
At this point what do any of have to lose by calling this mess out immediately instead of trying to keep the peace? Sigh

                • Junegirl627

After discussing my comment with other people, they did raise the point that i work in an office where my brand of in your face truth can’t really blow back on me. So what i will say to you is this since I don’t know your office dynamic. Figure out the best CYA (cover yourass) way to have the conversation and go for honesty. I would even go to management of HR and ask for “advise” on how to address an issue. and tell them that you “really appreciate ________ concern in asking about my childs health but in voicing their concern they have unknowingly said some promblematic things that i find offensive. My child suffers from _______ and when discussing the trials i deal with __________ likes to compare the fear, heartache and fatigue I experience watching my child suffer to ( then pause for effect) her pet………. I know that she is trying to show that she empathizes but I don’t think she realizes that she is comparing my child to her puppy. I know she means well but its still hurtful to me.” then say ” Do you have any ideas on how to deal with this? I really like _____ but I don’t like the comparison she’s making. You get it right?” and watch how they all gather Becky for you while placating you. Becky will probably stop talking to you for a minute but she will learn and it will be noted. that you followed chain of command and SOP to get this bitchtogether.

            • Eno Nesohc

See…that’s that bullshit. “Fur Babies.” FOH, “Like, Bitch are you comparing your dog to my son???”

              • Another Man’s Rhubarb

The murdering cop said he thought about his wife and child? And then shot and killed a man with a woman and child in the car? The child was 4 right? What an incredibly horrible thing for a child to see, that will stick with her for life. You can’t murder a man, traumatize a child and her mother and then cry “think of the children.”

According to white people, the only people more insignificant than a black man is a black woman and a black baby.

    • AnotherBlackGirl

Im in Minnesota and Black people here are tearing this city apart!! Protests are everywhere they even barricaded the governors mansion. The verdict doesn’t surprise me this state is ran by white supremacists and KKK. My neighbor knew Mr Castile and he said that he was a very nice man and he was very well liked in the school where he worked.

    • truthseeker2436577@yahoo.com

That’s the truly revolting part. The officer didn’t care about the child or the unarmed woman. He certainly didn’t care about Philando Castile, who was no threat to the officer at all. The crooked cop only cared about himself. His deed of murdering an innocent black man unfortunately is part of the long history of innocent black people being harassed and murdered by barbarians.

White folks are always laughing at Black folks for burning down our own communities, well I hope the Black folks in St Paul take heed and burn down the White neighborhoods of St Paul. Burn, baby, burn.

    • kingpinenut

I don’t see no need to lower ourselves to that extreme….

White folks have to deal with they own shid…..

The USA needs the rest of it’s existence sans brown, black, yellow and red folk.

      • Val

When they show you that being peaceful doesn’t work then you act accordingly. How many lives will it take for us to realize that Merica only understands violence?

        • kingpinenut

          You walk away….

          It’s that simple

          • Val

we’ve been doing that for 500 years but okay.

            • Diego Duarte

Just because peaceful revolution worked ONCE with Gandhi doesn’t mean it’s going to work every time.

History is the best indicator to the contrary.

            • Charles Johnson

              MLK quote in 3…2…

              • Diego Duarte

Hopefully one of the communist ones.

              • kingpinenut

Nah…i don’t bother with MLK…or Ghandi either for that matter

                • FromTokyo

Gandhi was racist against black folks anyway.

            • kingpinenut

Mother Nature is gonna take care of the problem

              • Val

Lol And mother nature is also very slow.

                • kingpinenut

                  That is all too true

                • Brown Rose

                  Mother Nature is white…I kid I kid…sorta.

                  • kingpinenut

                    lmbaooooo

              • Brown Rose

                No Mother Nature won’t.

          • HouseSublime

Walter Scott ran and caught that action to his back.

          • Darkchloe144

You’re not wrong. But neither are they.

Folks lean militant on here, for damm good reason. But the answer to the question “violent uprising or no?” is not easy or clear cut.
We can say what we want here because it’s crucial to get it out of our system to make day to day bullshid possible. But can we really stop fighting the “right” way so easily? Can we as individuals abandon our humanity for the sake of revenge and/or survival, understanding the opposing side will do the same? The initial reaction when pissed is “Sure.” After careful thought, however…

            • manofmorehouse

When doing the right thing still gets you killed being “right” goes out the window. White people and, by extension cops of all races, have shown that they don’t respect anything but violence. Why are we continually bringing knives to a literal gunfight??

              • Darkchloe144

I agree, guns to a gunfight are what we need.
But are those guns literal or metaphorical (equivalents)? Do we want them to be literal or metaphorical? Which guns are more effective for Resilients at large in the long run?

(Of course, by the time anyone answers these questions the “right” way, we will have exhausted the worse options and/or all ended up dead, race be dammed. Humans are gonna human; History tells us so.)

                • manofmorehouse

Metaphorical guns going against literal guns?? Because what these racist, incompetent cops are using are real so…..ill leave it at that. Feds can be watching (or reading)

            • Ms.Moon

Obeah exists for this reason. A piece of bad obeah and these people would not have a good life when they got out of that courtroom not the jurors, not the defendant and none of their families. One good curse I love me some Jesus but there is no way they were walking out of there without being cursed. I wouldn’t kill them but they’d suffer many, many tragedies.

              • Darkchloe144

Had to look that up, you ain’t wrong either lol

              • Carmen

Girl you telling the truth!! My family is Jamaican and I promise you I would put my Christianity to the side just for that day and visit the obeah man, obeah woman, and FIX THAT WHOLE TOWN!

                • Ms.Moon

There would not be a black rooster alive in that whole place when I was done with them.

        • manofmorehouse

Exactly. The whole “we shall overcome” sentiment got Malcolm and Martin assassinated. I don’t respect cops. Watch how not one officer, black included, come out and condemn this bs. But they’re heroes??? To who??

      • manofmorehouse

So we should sit back and wait for AG Sessions to investigate?? ?

        • kingpinenut

I expect white folks to do what white folks have always done….history is a great guide.

          • manofmorehouse

So that means that we should sit back and continue to allow them to do what they do, in your opinion?

            • kingpinenut

Do what you think you need to do is my opinion

    • Mary Burrell

That’s what i am talking about burn their ish down.

  • D-Nice

Cops always say “I feared or my life” which I guess in very extreme circumstances (like a guy with a gun threatening to shoot you) may justify pulling the trigger. But, doesn’t danger and fear go hand and hand with the job? The “fear” necessary to shoot a suspect should be at a much higher standard than what would make an everyday person fearful. It’s such BS.

    • Effrom Robinson

If you are constantly fearing for your life, then you shouldn’t be a police officer. Just like you shouldn’t be a paramedic if you fear the sight of blood or complain about not liking fire or smoke as a firefighter.

      • Tonia Ward Robinson

I so agree…change jobs if you are afraid, cause somebody is gonna die,

      • Wild Cougar

They are more racist psychopath than afraid.

    • Val

Which is why I laugh when they call cops brave. They aren’t brave. Bravery means the lives of citizens comes first. For them their life is the first life they think of protecting, always.

    • Nametaken

And of course we’ll never get to use the same excuse on them…

      • CheGueverraWitBlingOn

This what I am saying. But honestly, who has a more reasonable ‘shoot-first’ fear than us?

    • E_Deshon

“I feared for my life” is law enforcements get out of jail free card. They know it and use it freely and frequently to rationalize their cowardly actions.

    • Wild Cougar

They know all they have to say is I was afraid and they can get away with murder. They are hunting us. That is not hyperbole. They. Are. Hunting. Us. With their excuse ready. This is genocide according to the international definition.

  • Johnnybegood

Justice can be obtained in ways that do not involve courts, and it’s past time for it. Even the so called good boom endorses it: an eye for an eye. Of course that could lead to the whole world going blind but what does one do?

  • Soul Glo Model

    Im no longer numb…Just6

  • Kat

    Not today.

    • Charles Johnson

      but it’s everyday…

  • PurpleIntrovert

    This hurts.
