Morehouse Class of 1948

Today, in honor of the observation of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday,  the American national holiday (which means I’m not at work and that you shouldn’t be either – that means you too Arizona), my Blackness (and my Morehouseness) requires me to point you all to two videos in honor of the King:

Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech

And also:

Stevie Wonder’s rendition of Happy Birthday

(Because I’m slow and quite obviously computer illiterate, I couldn’t manage to actually post the damn videos.  I’m not sure why it wouldn’t work, I’ve done it before, but alas, I’ve been bested by technology.  Now I know what Sarah Connors was afraid of.) EDIT: Liz to the rescue.

Reflect.  Appreciate.  Rejoice.  The observation couldn’t come at a more fitting time as we prepare to welcome President-Elect Barack Obama into office tomorrow.

Methinks Dr. King is happy.

Dreams do come true.

  1. nice post. appropriate and sh!t. but I do have to go to work-d@mn small company-so I best get to sleep. *sigh*

  2. fantastic post, champ – thank you! and congratulations to all of you on your fab president, it still feels like such a dream! i’ve begun to think a little about the post-inaug period, which is going to be a tough and crazy period for obama, what with the state of the nation and the world… and i cannot think of anyone better to navigate the U.S. through the storm.

it feels great to be alive when such a momentous event takes place. i’m trying to figure out which of the 4 inauguration viewing parties that i’ve been invited to i should attend…

when i think of all who’ve shed blood and lost their lives so moments like these could take place…

sorry – this post is all over the place, but i’m so emotional…my thoughts are all over the place.

  3. Thanks for the post, Panama, it was beautiful! You’re right, EVERYBODY should be off from work for this glorious holiday; but sadly, it’s still not the case.

  4. my favorite Dr. King speech is “drum major instict” extremely moving and applicable to our isssues today

    Happy Birthday Dr. King

  5. Unfortunately, I do have to go to work this morning, but I am only working until noon. yay!!

I know my Morehouse brother Dr. King is well pleased with the inauguration of our first black President of the United States. But, I do believe, if he were still with us, he would stress that we not get comfortable and complacent just b/c our President is black. There is still work to do….

Today is the National Day of Service, and I hope all of the VSB and VSS participate in a service project in your community.

    Peace & Blessings!!!

  6. Sadly, I have to work a whole day today! I’m sure Dr. King would shed more than a few tears to have seen this time come.

Congrats PE Obama and Happy Birthday Dr. King!
