america’s new whipping boy, and more links of the week

starting today’s festivities is  “The Five Worst Reasons Not to Volunteer” a piece i (yup. me, nuccas. it aint a game with the civic-mindedness game) wrote for my homies at sponsorchange.org; an organization that allows you to volunteer in exchange for student loans paid for by donors. yup, you read that correctly. they will help pay off your student loan debt if you do volunteer work. sounds like a fair trade to me (or, at least better than the shaq to cleveland trade is looking right now)

with shaq in mind, this simmons article touches on everything you need to know about the cavs horrible performance tuesday night. also, as an admitted lebron stan, i have to say that i’ve never been more disappointed in a player’s lack of effort than i was with his. seriously, the only way he can redeem himself is if he pulls a double triple-double tonight.

i was in such shock after the game that i could have swore i turned the channel and watched a documentary about liberian amputee soccer players narrated by nas.

***damn, i guess that did actually happen. i guess ole sincere finally got his wish to go to africa***

with the black, successful, and single woman hysteria finally fading, there’s a new whipping boy on the horizon, itching to be dissected and debated with the same fervor: the single and 30-something man. both the frisky’s “What The Hell Is Happening To 30-Something Guys?” and thedatingtruth’s “He’s Not a Catch He’s a Fugitive” contain the same basic premise: if you’re a 30-something man and not in a serious relationship, you more than likely suck walrus d*ck.

speaking of black, successful, and single women, from the tone of some of the comments we receive, i think our readers assume that we’re not too fond of helena “big h” andrews, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. i’m a big fan of big h (even though her recent halle berry piece made my eyes crossed)

in “Why Is a Former Sex Blogger “Rethinking Virginity”?”, jessica grose examines the same question that made liz eventually end her nude webcam days: how does a blogger recover from being too provocative in the past?

seriously, every blogger worth reading has at least toed the “if i had my real name attached, would saying this affect my employment, off-line relationship status, legality, and bally’s membership?” line because, well, you wouldn’t be a blogger worth reading if you didn’t. there can be negative consequences to this, and lena chen has experienced some of them.

apparently, the high fashion game is the world’s biggest paradox: a place where gay men and ultra liberal women call the shots…and choose to keep things plessy vs ferguson.

demetria lucas’ “the colour of beauty” discusses the surprisingly racist modeling industry, a subject i just can’t seem to muster much anger about. i guess that lack of animus is (at best) shortsighted and (at worse) ignorant, but after reading about the texas man who had his baseball career ended after he was unjustly shot in the liver by a police officer (who was acquitted of any wrongdoing, btw), my weekly racial outrage quota has already been filled.

habitual cheaters around the world rejoiced this week as “The Science of a Happy Marriage” gave evidence that some people just have genetic advantages when it comes to being faithful. while scientists have coined this “the fidelity gene“, i prefer the old handle: “being ugly“.

i know i occasionally take shots at newark, new jersey, but that’s only because i feel a kinship with them after watching each episode of brick city last summer. i want that city to prosper, and i’m glad they still feel cory booker is the best man to help them do that.

there are few things i enjoy more than finding proof that my half-assed theories are actually right, so, you can imagine the joy i felt when finding “Constantly Changing Hairstyles? What This May Say About You”. i’d say more, but the bile of righteousness permeating my body is making it difficult to type

apparently skip gates has had more than his fair share of uncle ruckus moments. i guess this explains last year’s cop incident. he probably thought the drop squad was coming to get him

i think it would be apropos to end the day with a much, much more flattering pic of maliah michel (the video vixen heatedly and hilariously debated in the comments of yesterday’s “is she cute?”), and i bet my 2009 stimulus check that there will be at least 10 comments about her shoes by 10am.

and yes, that is a link to mediatakeout on vsb.com. the apocalypse is finally here.

  1. eh, the new pic of Drake’s video venom is better but her shoes suck!

No, that is not hating. Hating is based on subjective comments, not objective ones. It is objectively obvious that those shoes indeed suck

  2. Champ obviously overdosed on toast and wasn’t able to write a post today so decided to link a bunch of articles/blogs for us to read. Good look! Got some great reading to do today.

Aside: I’m mad as hell I missed yesterday’s post and comment shenanigans. But, I was at the dentist. And not a bad visit!

    • “Champ obviously overdosed on toast and wasn’t able to write a post today so decided to link a bunch of articles/blogs for us to read”

lol, it took me longer to write this than it does for “regular” posts. so, toast deez.

      • @ComicBookGuy, glad I was missed! I wasn’t having as much fun as you guys as I was having a root canal (which wasn’t that bad! *fist pump*), and I really wish I was here because it was such a great topic. Anywho, missed ya’ll too!

        • You were like the only person missing whose opinion I was waiting to see. The VSSs were on it yesterday.

I had a root canal last year and it really wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. I am heading to the dentist today to get my last crown put on. I won’t have to go again until my 6 month check up, Thank God.

          • “You were like the only person missing whose opinion I was waiting to see. The VSSs were on it yesterday.”

Aww, I’m flattered. :) Yeah, even though I read the post, I refuse to go read the comments because I know I will respond to them all…late as hell. lol

And yeah, the root canal wasn’t bad at all. And it was probably better because it was the front bottom tooth (front teeth have only one canal; back ones can have 3 or 4). I’m glad my next visit ain’t til the 6 month checkup too. Though I love her, I’m kinda tired of seeing my dentist. lol

  3. Where was this post yesterday (earlier today) when I sat at working doing nothing for about 4 hours? You suck. (And that girl is pretty but she has old lady legs LOL) OAN: I’m trying to make that matchmaker event to finally meet everybody but I already agreed to go to a 25th bday party that night. Decisions, decisions…

    • “I’m trying to make that matchmaker event to finally meet everybody but I already agreed to go to a 25th bday party that night”

take them to the matchmaker event as well

      • lol…maybe i’ll come to the event and not stay for the afterparty. Say “Hiiiii, byeeeeeeeee” and be out. The party is in newark, how about yall hop on the train and crash the bday party lol

  4. Wow@ some of those links. The idea of guys over 30 and single having something wrong with them is some effed up b.s.! I am really disappointed in women who may have had the same messed up things said about them or women in general turning around and doing the same thing to men. That’s foul. Who decides another human beings time-table and who is “expired or not”? So you are no longer a decent human being and worthy of love because you are over 30 and single? In some cases, you become a better and wiser person after 30, so being selective and wise about a relationship or being wise enough to end a relationship that could have started in your 20′s makes you a worthless partner? That’s some b.s., mayne.

What Lena Chen endured was an entire new type of hatred and hater. Harassment and Hater to the 5th Power. Wow. Glad she is still pushing on and doing her. I can’t stand hypocrites, and their fake and convenient code of morality.

    • “What Lena Chen endured was an entire new type of hatred and hater.”

if anything i think this story just tells you how careful you have to be able what you put on the internet

    • @legitimate_soul

Cosign. Men aren’t really ready for a serious relationship until their late 20s. Plus it’s not like it was 40+ years ago when you could support a family or yourself with a high school diploma.

  5. what is it with men and donks. i feel like if your two feet taller after you sit down, then you might have a problem. but she’s pretty and she has a ridiculously small waist, if your gonna have thighs packing as much heat as the average womens butt, then you better hope you can work it like she does.

Just please… no more flash dance hotpants pics unless the name starts with mc and ends with hammer.

Not only have you got a mediatakeout.com link but you got a bossip “heres sh*t to read on other sights cuz frankly we aint got a topic to expose today” steez going on today. Hello black blog day =D should we expect some tryabanks.com swagga jackin next? lol

      • “what is it with men and donks”

they’re just so damn intriguing. i can’t really explain it. actually, i don’t feel like im qualified to explain it. thats a question steve harvey would probably answer better

  6. Wait, the Cavs actually traded for Shaq? I thought he just showed up on the roster one day like those walk-ons in video games where you’re like “damn, this guy isn’t a 48 like the other walk-ons, maybe I’ll keep him and see how it pans out.”

    • Wait, the Cavs actually traded for Shaq?

yea he was sent to “win” a ring for the king. and by “win” I mean ruin any chance that he has of winning.

    • ““damn, this guy isn’t a 48 like the other walk-ons, maybe I’ll keep him and see how it pans out.””

Tooo Much NCAA Football 2010. Dont you get kind of happy when you get a walk on that’s a 73 though

      • You know how there’s always that one position that you just CAN’T seem to sign, so when you see that walk-on fullback that’s a 68 you feel like you just hit the jackpot.

    • “Wait, the Cavs actually traded for Shaq?”

actually, the cavs traded for shaq for two specific reasons: the magic and the lakers. thing is, he makes them worse against everybody else. i’m done talking about this. its depressing me again

      • I have a friend who has had nothing but incessant lamentations and depressed thoughts as FB statuses talking about the mess the Cavs did to him on Tuesday. Lol. It’s quite funny actually…

But it truly does suck for Lebron fans.

(Maybe The Champ shouldn’t stan for people? First your Steelers and that Ben whachamacallit, then LeBron in all his disappointing glory…. Lol!)

        • (Maybe The Champ shouldn’t stan for people? First your Steelers and that Ben whachamacallit, then LeBron in all his disappointing glory…. Lol!)

yea, this hasnt been a great last couple of month for teams i support. maybe i’m just bad luck

          • Between the Penguins and Steelers, a Pittsburgh fan has no right to complain about anything sports-related.

          • @P,

Well the Penguins did get their arses whooped by the number 8 seed… who barely made it to the playoffs.. None of the “experts” saw it coming.

btw, so that my black card remains intact, I have to put up this disclaimer: it’s my sister who is a die hard fan of the Canadiens and has all of us sucked in the NHL playoffs… I do not, I repeat do NOT intend to become a Hockey Mom (No Sarah Palin)… I just had to put it out there. :)

          • @Sula,

You’re talking to a die-hard Capitals fan about the Penguins losing to a team that beat the Capitals? Again, I have no sympathy for the city of Pittsburgh.

My Black card remains intact, despite my infatuation with the NHL and my avoidance of the NBA like the plague, hence my original comment.

  7. I see you can capitalize your writings for other publications but you cain’t do it for VSB?

    *sucks teef*

    I see you.

Anyway. I read Lena Chen’s blog earlier today (yesterday) and she calls shenanigans all over that Slate piece:
    http://thechicktionary.com/post/590254901/slate-why-is-a-former-sex-blogger-rethinking

I kinda think ole girl is right, as i’ve been reading her for a minute now and under no circumstances do i sense she’s on Team A these days, especially if/since she has a sordid past.

    • “I see you can capitalize your writings for other publications but you cain’t do it for VSB?

      *sucks teef*”

Oh, it’s like that, huh, Champers? Over here you’re like “oh it’s my style”, but other places you wanna be professional? Professional deez.

  8. okay, honestly, i stopped reading after:

” they will help pay off your student loan debt if you do volunteer work.”

i’m sure this is a great entry, as per usual, but i can’t concentrate since i’m all giddy and sh*t. goodnight. (um…..yes, i am going to bed at 4 30am. don’t damn judge me.)

    • yeah… that’s not really volunteering is it? But who cares, “you get a paid student loan, you get a paid student loan, you get a paid student loan…. YOU ALL GET A PAID STUDENT LOAN!”

      • If I get paid $10/hour and do 10 hours of work, do they pay $100 on a loan (is it a dollar-for-dollar ratio?) or is it if you work consistently over a period of time, they pay an entire loan off?
Enlighten me. Otherwise, I’ll just adopt a sugar daddy and that will by my volunteer work.

        • @RocktheCatbox

“I’ll just adopt a sugar daddy and that will by my volunteer work.”

Sugar Daddies were a dime a dozen in Detroit at one time. I don’t know if many are still around because of the economy. I think you should still be able to find a Southern ex-pat factory ninja.

          • Man, not anymore! I remember certain places you could go to find one (floods for one, lol) Now we’re down to “see this bus pass and surf-n-turf voucher? I can change your life, girl!”

        • “If I get paid $10/hour and do 10 hours of work, do they pay $100 on a loan (is it a dollar-for-dollar ratio?) or is it if you work consistently over a period of time, they pay an entire loan off?
          Enlighten me”

go to the site. they give all the info (and people to contact) over there. one thing i do know, though is that they actually pay up to 20 an hour

        • “I’ll just adopt a sugar daddy and that will by my volunteer work.”

          they’re called “sponsors” now, girl!

          • @charli skipper

            “they’re called “sponsors” now, girl!”

That is not new. Women have been calling men “sponsors” in Detroit since the 90s.

          • @Humble_One,

That makes sense, then, since Tierra Mari is from Detroit.

            @RocktheCatbox,

Don’t worry, ma. I’ll help you out, as soon as I take care of that radiator problem of yours. LMAO

  9. As a LeBron stan I have to say he had plenty of effort last game but the Celtics had better effort. (coaching, strategem, defense, offense, heart, hustle etc.) Clevland as a team cannot afford their best player having a terriible night this deep in the playoffs, and still win as compared to teams like Boston and LA can. Clevland cannot matchup with the BIGS of other teams very well either. (& screw the regular season.) I’ll be happy to see Bron leave the Cavs if needed and they don’t win a championship this season. It’s not over till it’s over though. Oh yeah and Garnett appears to be healthier this playoff and getting healthier with each moment passing. The NBA 4 out of 7 is the best test in all of professional sports at determining the best team. They’ve got it right.

    • “As a LeBron stan I have to say he had plenty of effort last game”

i know there’s a ton of pressure on him to be great every game, but he just seems generally lethargic tuesday night. a friend of mine (gem of the ocean actually) mentioned that he could have been having a nervous breakdown from the mental pressure…which isn’t too far fetched. still, if he’s truly the “the king” he needs to show it tonight

      • i didnt say he was having a “nervous breakdown” but i do think he has a lot on his shoulders and he just had a WTF moment on tuesday. the man has been carrying the cavs for many years now and this is the first time hes actually f*ed up and NOT carried his team. the man is entitled ONE misstep, i mean damn. i dont think he intentionally said “f*ck it, i dont care” like kobe did in the 2008 finals. so imho he can still be the king, even if the cavs lose tonight’s game which im hoping they do :)

      • Also, the Coaching has been very bad in my opinion. If I was coaching, I would understand that I have the younger, more athletic team. With that, I would be running these old heads up and down the court and more fastbreak points. Yea, Shaq is getting points and playing well but he would get less minutes and use him for Orlando (hence the reason he is there). Also, one theory that makes sense is that Lebron may have taken mad pain meds and the meds made him too relaxed and out there. He definitely didn’t look the same. But at the end of the day, I don’t care…….Go CELTICS…Bron is going fishing in the Hudson River trying to decide if he wants to stay closer to Midtown or Brooklyn but he isn’t going back to Cleveland.

        • @aceklub

“Bron is going fishing in the Hudson River trying to decide if he wants to stay closer to Midtown or Brooklyn but he isn’t going back to Cleveland.”

I’ve been saying that for the past 3-4 years. Once i saw him hanging around with Jay-Z, rooting for the Yankees, throwing up the ROC sign, and on the cover of XXL with Jay-Z I knew he was leaving. It was solidified when Jay-Z became a part owner of the Nets and the team was moving to Brooklyn.

          • Here’s my 2cents….

Unless Bron Bron wants to start a second career as a rapper or fashion designer under the Rocawear label, he should go to a team with a chance of winning or stay in Cleveland. His chances of getting a ring do not improve with him going to the Nets of the Knicks. Now, if the Knicks are able to get a great, “Jordanesque” type of supporting cast, than sure, he will be able to do great things.

    • That sh*t there is just ignorant. Won’t be going to Arizona anytime soon.

Glad my frat moved the national convention from Phoenix to Vegas this summer. John McCain was bad enough but that state is making itself look dumber and dumber by the day.

      • I have enacted my personal mini-boycott of AZ by refusing to do business with a company that is located in Arizona (hopefully there aren’t too many… Lol!)… I won’t be going there anytime soon, and if a route has to take me through Phoenix airport? I book a different flight.

Tiffany B. Brown had a nice piece referencing Desmond Tutu’s take on the Arizona laws. Check it out (since it’s links’ day et al): http://tiffanybbrown.com/2010/04/29/arizona-this-is-how-it-starts/

        • @Sula

“I have enacted my personal mini-boycott of AZ by refusing to do business with a company that is located in Arizona (hopefully there aren’t too many… Lol!)… ”

if this includes buying products named after or manufactured there then so much for my beloved Arizona Iced Tea. I agree. Arizona is on some other ish

    • “The readers at The Root treat Helena Andrews like she took their boy friends. Even her good posts only are magnets for e-hate.”:

yeah, i think the whole “bitch” first impression people have of her has rubbed a few the wrong way. but she is a pretty talented writer, and she’s cool peoples

      • @The Champ
Most of the comments on her blog stop just short of calling her a stuck up c-word.

        @Sula,
        “I was a bit annoyed… in a, “ugh, can’t I escape her ever” type of way…”
I feel the same way about Sean Combs.

        • “I was a bit annoyed… in a, “ugh, can’t I escape her ever” type of way…”
I feel the same way about Sean Combs.

          You, too?

          • @LaBakir,

Sorry, sweetheart, but it seems like that guy has the touch of the death when it comes people’s music careers.(No Biggie, RIP to the Notorious One)

If I was an artist and trying to get in the industry and that ninja was calling for a deal, I would be like tell his @$$ to keep his money. I’ll try my luck at going independent.

          • @ComicBookGuy & LaBakir

You know Black Rob just got out of prison? He was talking about how Diddy played him. Puff has the touch of death on your career. His victims include 8Ball & MJG, Total, G-Dep(his CD was my ish), Ness and many many more.

          • @Humble_One,

Yeah, I caught Black Rob on the Whoo-Kid’s radio show on Shade 45 on Saturday. Dude had me rolling. How do mess up something good like 112? I mean, really?

@LaBakir and Wu Young, Agent of M.E.,

Houston is a perfect example of how bad Diddy is. Brian from Day26 be hosting parties in Houston like Day26 is still big and that dude Mike the Drummer from Diddy’s band be posted up in the middle of clubs playing the drums. Crazy.

          • *realizes something*

            Puffy, leave Jay Electronica alone!!!!!

But, yeah, manage Nicki Menaj all you want, lol!

    • I am one of the people who admits to being very biased towards Ms. Andrews… When I saw that she wrote an article in the June issue of my fave magazine subscription (shout out to Marie Claire), I was a bit annoyed… in a, “ugh, can’t I escape her ever” type of way… As a result, I found the piece a bit unsubstantial and actually quite rehashed… which in turn solidified my opinion that Ms. Andrews has less substance than she’s claimed to have…

But I am admittedly very biased… I have been so turned off by all her prior wishy washy, I say this then I say the opposite stances on issues/topics, that I may not be the best judge…

    • My Arizona boycott is still in effect…and why not when New Mexico is fabulous (from what I hear).

      • I have heard that a lot, too. People tell me Las Cruces is a beautiful city for a weekend getaway.

      • @legitimate_soul
New Mexico is pretty nice. :)

@ Sula… I agree, I think she rubbed me the wrong way on jump, and i just don’t care anymore.

  10. Slow news day, Champ? Thanks for the links. Hmmm…a link to mediaFAKEout? Iono ’bout dat right dere.

  11. Yeah, that lena chen article was dope. Double X’s hyper superficial, watered down, privileged take on [white] women’s issues really gets on my nerves. Like seriously. And their articles are underdeveloped and anemic like a mug.

    • Yeah, that lena chen article was dope. Double X’s hyper superficial, watered down, privileged take on [white] women’s issues really gets on my nerves.

wait, so was the article an island of dopeness in an otherwise sh*tty sea of euro ovary angst?

  12. It’s like the potpurri category on Jeopardy! today. Awesome.

I’ll take Clayton Bigsby–White Power for $800, Alex. Clue: This Irish American started a minority studies program at the world’s most prestigious university just to use his bully pulpit for pure shenanigans, tomfoolery and ballyhoo. Oh, and he stay constantly engaged in pure ninjadom…like being arrested for breaking into his own house. Answer: Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. for the win. Meh.

  13. Thank for the info on sponsorchange.org! I just signed-up. I already volunteer twice a month at http://www.foodandfriends.org so I may as well get paid for it. At the rate I’m going I’ll be paying law school loans until after I die:( The costs of higher education suck but you can’t knock the benefits.

Also, I just lost 45 minutes of my morning delving in the life of Lena Chen! That’s some fascinating stuff! I love the internet but I’m reminded almost daily that anonymity allows some people the opportunity to spew hate unfiltered. ***smh and off to pray***

  14. I mess with mediafakeout…bbc, huffington…I get my news/entertainment from everywhere..lol..that new pic of her though..I am not feeling..something is off….is it necessary for an azz to be that dam big?! I am not a hater either..I have a nice one myself..but, shizzam!

I gotta read all of these links…I shall return.

  15. I’m not sure whether to attribute the randomness of this post to The Champ not having anything to say today or having too much to share. Either way I don’t even know where to start with comments. I guess I’ll do some reading first.

    Thanks for the volunteering info.

  16. So by “america’s new whipping boy, and more links of the week” you mean “a bunch sh*t y’all can read while I figure out what to write for tomorrow’s post”…

    nnnnnniiiiiicccceeeee

  17. @The Champster

“i think it would be apropos to end the day with a much, much more flattering pic of maliah michel (the video vixen heatedly and hilariously debated in the comments of yesterday’s “is she cute?”), and i bet my 2009 stimulus check that there will be at least 10 comments about her shoes by 10am.”

Man f*ck the shoes (even though they’re whack as hell) how bout her f*ckin $10 dress from Rave… I’m sorry her body is terrible. Sure she has a small waist but bish holding some major weight in the lower body and all that sh*ts gonna do is spread as she gets older. She looks deformed. I dont envy any of that sh*t she got going on, I like being able to go running and buy jeans that aren’t custom made, thank you.

    • I’m inclined to agree but…she’s disposable and ain’t nobody who currently dates her keeping her around by the time “older” happens! that body has an “expires 30 days from today” stamp on it.

    • I dont envy any of that sh*t she got going on, I like being able to go running and buy jeans that aren’t custom made, thank you.

I thought she’d be a Lane Bryant client, no? If not, she’s def flirting w/ crossing over to that market…at least her thighs are

      *shrugs*

    • I cosign with everything stated above. And I’m not hating, old girl is pretty. She just seems prone to making unfortunate choices. Honey, you are dating ballers now, you don’t need to shop at Rainbow. (Wait is Drake a baller???)

I too wonder how her lower half with hold up over the years. Gravity is not your friend =/

I’ll comment on the links later :)

    • @BKSweetheart & RocktheCatbox

“Sure she has a small waist but bish holding some major weight in the lower body and all that sh*ts gonna do is spread as she gets older.”
“she’s disposable and ain’t nobody who currently dates her keeping her around by the time “older” happens! that body has an “expires 30 days from today” stamp on it.”

It’s funny that women notice this because this is how some men including me think. I will take her right now. But long term? I’ll pass. She is the polar opposite of a woman with a “foundation”. Unless she hits the gym hard and watches what she eats it’s a wrap for her after 1 or 2 kids. She is built the way you want your woman to be built after the kids or when she hits her 40s.

    • Well, I’ve seen asses this size hold up. She is not the first and won’t be the last.

And why should we care about how she is going to look in 40-11 years? She is BAD NOW! And that’s what matters…. for all we know we could all be gone in 2 years, so sh!t I’ll take looking great now over potentially looking good in an uncertain future.

      Maliah should GET IT!

(mind you, I haven’t seen the Champ’s proposed pic, but I know of the girl and her ass-ets… and she is bad. Like it or friggin’ not).

      • @Sula

“Well, I’ve seen asses this size hold up. She is not the first and won’t be the last.”

You need to introduce me to these women immediately. I just want to make sure the VSBs are aware these type of women exist.

        • @ Humble_One,

They exist. I know them and I know other VSS’s know them too. Plus, you got thick sisters that put it down at the gym too. Thick or full-figured doesn’t mean sloppy or that the woman isn’t fit. (Not saying anyone was saying that, just putting it out there :) )

      • @Sula,

You are like the coolest. It is so cool that you say those things about fine women so honestly and effortlessly.

        @Humble_One,

Man, I’ve been trying to tell you. You need to come down to Houston to see the kind of women that Sula is talking about. Especially on anywhere south of I-10.

        • Aww, thank you CBG… I really honestly think we put too much pressure on ourselves (and by ricochet on other women) to look a certain way… Society already does too much of it, let’s not help them in the nonsense…

Plus, I like Beauty… God’s Artistic Talent at its best.

          • I really honestly think we put too much pressure on ourselves (and by ricochet on other women) to look a certain way… Society already does too much of it, let’s not help them in the nonsense…

UGGGG! I so agree w/ you. One day I was like “dang, is anybody happy with how they look?!” I will admit, I’m guilty of getting caught up too, and it’s something I”m working on. But it’s really sad the pressure that is on us to be something that we may not naturally be physically.

      • “And why should we care about how she is going to look in 40-11 years? She is BAD NOW! And that’s what matters…. ”

LOL, for real. And I agree with Champ that he linked a better pic. The other one with “Who pooted?”-face wasn’t as flattering but I could still tell she was cute. And yeah, that brings back to the differences between men (esp brothas) and women. Women mostly say how bad a body is (like Halle Berry), while I notice brothas gaga this small-waist, big-hips-and-ass more. Which is cool for Maliah, because who she tryin’ to impress, the girls or the guys? ;)

Wait. Well, actually, I don’t know. She could be tryin’ to impress both for all I know…ya never know…

        • @Cheekie

Women mostly say how bad a body is (like Halle Berry), while I notice brothas gaga this small-waist, big-hips-and-ass more.

Not I said the cat. There’s nothing wrong w/ Ms. Berry’s body…but I give props to the curvier sisters.

          @Sula
Plus, I like Beauty… God’s Artistic Talent at its best.

          c/s

          • “Not I said the cat. There’s nothing wrong w/ Ms. Berry’s body…but I give props to the curvier sisters.”

I actually do too, I just notice how it differs with some women and men in general. Some women are quicker to call a curvier woman fat (even just thick ones), but men (brothas) are more likely to salivate.

        • @Cheekie

I really just laughed out loud! Yes, anyone who uses “Not I said the cat” is good peoples! I just knew somebody was gonna be like “wtf?!” when they read my comment.

But yes, a lot of women often want to be thinner versions of themselves…so they give props to more svelte (always wanted to use that word) women

          • @LaBakir I don’t think most women want to be thinner versions of themselves just different versions of themselves. Slim girls (from the South) want to be thick, flat-chested girls want to be buxom, a lot of us want: clearer skin, no cellulite, longer and/or straighter hair, etc.

Unfortuately a lot of us (I’m guilty of this!) pick ourselves apart instead of realizing how delicious and fierce we truly are. More of us need to co-sign on Sula’s comment about God’s Artistic Talent.

          • @MsEsquire77

Unfortuately a lot of us (I’m guilty of this!) pick ourselves apart instead of realizing how delicious and fierce we truly are

And let the church say Amen!

          • @MsEsquire77,

“Slim girls (from the South) want to be thick, flat-chested girls want to be buxom, a lot of us want: clearer skin, no cellulite, longer and/or straighter hair, etc.

            Tabernacle holy ghost dance.

It seems like a “grass is greener on the other side” kinda mentality with us chicks. Convos usually can go like this:

Thick Chick: Man, I wish I was thinner so I can rock those skinny jeans. My thighs would tear the fabric!
            Thin Chick: o_O What? Girl, I wish I had your curves, I feel like a 12-year-old boy…

And yes, I think even the most beautiful-deemed women are insecure regarding their beauty due to “perfection” being thrown at us all the time. And yes, it is very unfortunate. We some fierce sistas. And what.

      • Well I guess its just a matter of taste then cause that ish just looks nasty to me.. Now and forever.. I take pride in my curves and I like women that flaunt their curves but im sorry that ish looks sloppy to me. it’s definitely a stripper/pron star body… an a** that’s made to be bouncing up and down either on someone’s stage or someone’s d*ck LOL.

        • an a** that’s made to be bouncing up and down either on someone’s stage or someone’s d*ck LOL.

And trust me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

        • @BKSweetheart

“it’s definitely a stripper/pron star body… an a** that’s made to be bouncing up and down either on someone’s stage or someone’s d*ck LOL.”

And what is wrong with an @ss that’s made to be bouncing up and down either on someone’s stage or someone’s d*ck?

          • LOL nothings wrong with it.. But could you imagine that chick working like in an office or something with regular clothes on?? F*ck no.. Do you think that girl could ever be taken seriously in corporate America? Not that Corp America is some sort of judging standard, i’m just trying to imagine her in business casual clothing… that ish would look about as awkward as a square bowling ball

          • @BKSweetheart,

I know many of those women working in “normal” offices… There is a way to wear clothes (A-line skirts, baby doll like tops) that allow for extra booty to be hidden… I know because, well I do…. :D

Truly, it’s really not that big of deal… and frankly doesn’t take away from the “niceness” of a bigger than average donk. :)

      • “Well, I’ve seen asses this size hold up. She is not the first and won’t be the last.”

Thank you for stating this, Miss Sula. I often wonder where you folks live, if you think all chicks with big azzes go to heyll after popping a kid or two out.

      • @ Sula
This is why I always look for you comments sis! LOVE IT! When as women are we going to stop being our worst enemies? The women is a dime, period!

  18. This 30-something and single man issue hits home. I guess we will be the new scapegoat for single black women. They will say that we aren’t gay or in jail we are just immature. It seems that there is no appreciation in our society for people who think long-term instead of thinking in the here and now. This mentality runs rampant in this country. Between this and the lingering idea that you should be married with a family in your 20s I see why the divorce rate is high.

    • @Humble_One,

You know sisters ain’t drinking that kool-aid (atleast not around my parts). Peep my post upthread. I got ya’ll back and the whole idea is ridiculous and foul. Half the women pointing the finger gonna end up pointing it back at themselves if that’s the case.

  19. Easy does it with your bile of self-righteousness…I don’t think you made the same claim as the article on changing hair. I believe you said something about how a woman who drastically changes her hair makes a man subconciously question her investment in the relationship. And you stated several times that it matters because it affects the way you judge a woman. So, in light of the fact that your argument was not the same as Ms. Dunham’s, I think what you’re smelling is pure bile.

By the way, I’m intentionally being an a$$ today because it’s Thursday and I feel like it.

You writing is very peppy today. I like it. Did you have a fancy waffle this morning?

  20. That Bill Simmons article is the greatest analysis of a game I’ve read. Tonight is a pivotal night for the future of Lebron, the Cavs, and the NBA. Personally, I’m a Lebron stan too, and I’ve grown fond of the Cavs since Lelbow has been there, but if Lebron left today then I’m jumping ship with him to whatever team he goes to.

Mike Brown is an idiot. What head basketball coach has an offensive coordinator?

Sponsorchange.org sounds like a good look on the surface, but it really seems like a part time job making $10-$20/hour.

I’m a few years away from 30, but if I’m still single around that time then so be it. It’s funny that after a certain age, people are shocked if you aren’t married or have kids by then.

    • “It’s funny that after a certain age, people are shocked if you aren’t married or have kids by then.”

^Especially since people are living up to an older ideal in which life expectancy was shorter and there was a necessity for children to help with the farm.

  21. I like pot pourri posts… it’s the way my brain actually works… so I can relate. Lol. Unfortunately, half of the links are blocked at the wonderful new breed of slavery called j.o.b, and I won’t be able to check them all out…

In other news, it has not been a very good year for Pittsburgh’s sports, uh? The Penguins (title holders) being kicked out by the Canadiens of all teams? Pretty brutal, I must say… Lol… Hopefully, the pirates will bring something? Maybe? Lol.

      • I love you for this. I’mma have to use this in the future should I encounter this mess. I don’t usually have many problems as most of my job consists of research via the internets (so how can they block ish never knowing what we’ll potentially have to search for), but it does occasionally tend to happen…

      • @Wu Young Agent of M.E.

“Champ should be happy with his Steelers, I’m a Raiders fan so things could be worse.”

Both of you should be happy. I’m a Lions fan. I would kill just for my team to have an ounce of the success your teams have had. The funny thing is that the Lions have sucked(with glimmers of success) since we traded our star quarterback to the Steelers.

        • @Humble_One,

Star quarterback? You talking about Charlie Batch?

Actually, your team is starting to look a little better. I got love for Stafford because he’s from the Dallas area and with Suh and Vandenbosch, your d-line might be a problem. The best player on your team is 81. I saw Calvin Johnson at a Buffalo Wild Wings when I was up in the D last year and dude is huge in real life. How cool is it to be a football player, a wide receiver at that, and you have a cool @$$ nickname like Megatron? Dude is a beast.

          • @ComicBookGuy

“Star quarterback? You talking about Charlie Batch?”

Bobby Layne not Charlie Batch. Before that trade the Lions were one of the best teams in the NFL. This was in the 1950s.

          • @Humble_One,

Yeah, you are right. I forgot about the Curse of Bobby Layne. That Lions of the 50s and 60s had some good teams, especially when you had Dick “Night Train” Lane and Dick LeBeau playing cornerback back in the 60s.

  22. Question for the VSBs: is there such a thing as too much a$$??

I mean really. This maliah chick and that Houston chick (her pic got posted yesterday) are really just freaks of nature. I mean I understand, well I really don’t…rather I am aware of mens love of a$$. I see how it contributes to the hour glass/coke bottle figure, but at some point isn’t it just too much???

    • I think it all boils down to personal preference…

I don’t know if it’s because I live in the South or because of where I’m from, but those chicks’ a$$es are not that out of the ordinary to me… You might encounter a couple of those bootays anytime you stroll out… on the regular at that…

But men will like what they like, and what they like really depends on the man doing the liking…

      • I’m from the south too & I see large azzes pretty frequently, but one time I went to New Orleans and when I say huge, there was some chicks with some HUGE ones!! I went to the mall and every other female seemed to have a donk. Maybe it was something in the water in Nawlins….IDK

    • @OftenConfused

For me personally, that would be too much a$$…I feel it would get in the way of my daily activities like sitting in chairs and running.

      • lmfao @ “sitting in chairs”. That wipes out like 56% of a lot of people’s daily routine…

And yeah, I agree that the ratio tends to get way out there. I mean, do men have limits? Wait, forget I asked that, I know the answer…lol

        • @Cheekie

Lol…I’m just saying…that ish looks like it would a bit heavy. I dont’ think I have the stature to support it.

Back all out of whack b/c I have too much back…I’m good

      • @LaBakir,

“For me personally, that would be too much a$$…I feel it would get in the way of my daily activities like sitting in chairs and running.”

My sentiments exactly like WTF!?! F*ckin be at a restaurant turnin around knockin sh*t off tables and sh*t lol

    • @OftenConfused

“Question for the VSBs: is there such a thing as too much a$$?? ”

Yes there is. Once it starts to become sloppy or untoned it’s not a good look. I’ve known dudes that like big @sses period. The chic can weigh 300lbs as long as her @ss is big he doesn’t care. Most dudes like the biggest @ss possible relative to her frame. I can’t speak for all men but I think Cherokee D’ass would be the biggest for most dudes.

      • @Humble_One
        Too much is possible.

“Most dudes like the biggest @ss possible relative to her frame. ”
        That sounds about right.

I had to google Cherokee D’ass, that would be on the high end of the butt spectrum.

        • @its2010dammit

“Check out the link below. Its PRON so its NSFW. She may have too much a$$ but her waist to a$$ ratio is off the meter. She should be in the Guinnes book of world records!

          http://www.findtubes.com/movies/135/1359471/la-gurl-2/

Her @ss-to-waist ratio is crazy. But that is tooo much. Thats nasty. What’s crazy is that her stomach is flat. If the VSS want to know what too much @ss is that video is a perfect example

          • @Humble_One

So I just got home and had a chance to look at this video…did you post this because you wanted to cause people hysterical blindness?!?! She reminds me of drawings of Saartjie Baartman aka Hottentot Venus.

      • @Humble_One I understand men’s fascination with @ss but Cherokee’s looks like she’s smuggling melons to me. I’m thicker than a bowl of grits myself so I generally don’t hate on bigger girls but damn! However, she isn’t as offensive as Pinky and her signature tan lines…yuck.

        • @MsEsquire77

“However, she isn’t as offensive as Pinky and her signature tan lines…yuck.”

When Pinky put on weight it was not a good look at all. Women know about Pinky and Cherokee?

          • I dated a guy who was enjoys pron so we’d watch it together on occassion. I’m familiar with most of the bigger names in the Black industry: Cherokee, Pinky, Jada Fire, Skyy Black, Ayana Angel, etc. I’m not a big fan of pron but it doesn’t offend me so I considered it research into what he liked.

          • Heyyyyy, Miss T-Lee!
I knew about Pinky. I haven’t hit the link on Cherokee since I’m at work and all.

          • @ComicBookGuy
*snickering* It’s a secret society, all we ask is trust…lmao!

            @legitimate_soul.
Yeah…check her out when you get home.
I watch her and Roxy Reynolds for inspiration…lol Them chicks got skills.

          • @legitimate_soul

“I knew about Pinky. I haven’t hit the link on Cherokee since I’m at work and all.”

That link doesn’t have Cherokee in it. It’s some other woman I’ve never seen before. She makes Cherokee look like a toothpick.

            @mis t-lee, MsEsquire77, legitimate_soul

You find out something new everyday. I didn’t know the VSS watched pron vids and get tips from them. I guess if you want to learn watch the pros. Although from personal experience some of that ish doesn’t transfer into real as easy.

            @Jai

“When Pinky put on weight she looked like a short armed midget….”

Word. It was not it good look at all. She looks stinky now.

          • @Humble_One
“Although from personal experience some of that ish doesn’t transfer into real as easy.”

LOL!!! Yep… I know. Ask my ex about his dislocated shoulder.

          • @miss t-lee
“LOL!!! Yep… I know. Ask my ex about his dislocated shoulder.”

^You made me choke on my food laughing. Poor guy.

    • See the southern women we are all saying the same thing lol. I am used to seeing with big butts, it is just now being popular through the media. It is personal tho. I think having a nice size butt is attractive on a women, because I have seen women with curves my whole life. They handled themselves well. And many men felt the same way!

  23. I think lebron might actually be the next Iverson aka talented but ends career with no title, why? because you guys (stans) have inflated his ego so much so that he at times act like he has nothing to prove which is pompous and arrogant..sorry but lebron has lots of growing up to do, sports like any other aspect of life has alot to do with one`s psychology when you called ”king” and you`re doing what folks have done before and a re likely to do after you then we have a problem on our hands..uh good luck!

    • lebron has lots of growing up to do,

I actually agree with that… I think what happened yesterday is the typical 25 year old behavior came out… He has been behaving pretty maturely for his age, so people tend to forget he is, in fact, not that mature… It took Kobe some time to master the “great at this game, whenever, wherever” thing… We should let him (Lebron) room to improve…

Plus, the kid is friggin’ carrying the ENTIRE team. And the coach needs his hands slapped!

My team is already out of the running… (they actually lasted longer than I expected them too) so I am watching the playoffs with a detached interest that makes it all the more glorious. Lol.

      • @oliver & @Sula,

i basically said the very same things to Champie yesterday. lebron being named “the king” and him being young (despite the fact hes been in the nba so long) has EVERYTHING to do with him buckling under pressure last night. not to mention him changing the face of cleveland sports. the man plays for one of the worst franchises in the worst sports city in the country! with the type of squad and staff he’s working with, what MORE can he do, really??

i believe he was just as baffled at how awful he AND his teammates were on tuesday. i without a doubt believe he will have a better game tonight. im just hoping my Celts game is better :)

    • @oliver

“I think lebron might actually be the next Iverson aka talented but ends career with no title, why? because you guys (stans) have inflated his ego so much so that he at times act like he has nothing to prove which is pompous and arrogant”

I hope Lebron doesn’t go out like Iverson. Iverson ended his career HORRIBLY. He had the similar situations with his last 3 teams and he probably still thinks it is not him.

    • I don’t think we can compare him to Iverson. Lebron has a way better work ethic and team concept than Iverson who took like 40+ shots per game. The Cavs just have a horrible coach. There is no way the Celtics should be putting up 120 points on a team as athletic as the Cavs… minus Fat Shaq.

    • @ Oliver,

Agreed. How are you coronated the “King” and you have no rings yet? I could understand “The Answer” (for Iverson) but “The King Kang . I think it’s hella disrespectful of the legends that came out before him and chartered the new territory he is able to take advantage of now. I don’t knock his phenomenal skill, or the pressure on him at such a young age, but bring out the best in your teammates, work together, get a ring and then I might understand the royalty reference.

      • reading/hearing comments like this makes my eye twitch. do ppl even realize that players greatness and ability to perform EXTREMELY well on the court dont necessarily correlate with # of championships won. why?? because a TEAM has to win a ring…. TOGETHER. ONE PERSON DOESNT WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS, no matter how great they are as an individual player.

besides, Bron is young as hell. i can say with certainty he wont win a ring with the cavs. but when he goes to another team that has a better makeup, he undoubtedly will get his ringS. and live up to his nickname, which i think is cute and mostly fitting, ring or not.

it happened for my boo KG. it’ll happen for Bron.

        • Yes, but if you are gonna call someone a King….that comes with the territory. I just hate the accommodations for some, but not others (that’s my main point, not really hatin’ on Lebron). You the kang, but ain’t got no rangs, but Shaq is the “worst” and killing the squad with rings for atleast 2 other teams he went to? What is said about Shaq might be true, and what you are saying is the truth, but you can’t have it both ways. I think I would have fell back on the “king” reference form the “get go”.

          • Thats precisely why I haven’t sipped the Lebron James Kool-aid, that and telling your mother to sit here ass down etc on national tv o_O…….the one thing about the era before this that I will say is Jordan earned every single accolade, dollar, endorsement, and the Crown, he still wears. I don;t really like the NBA now they give folks way too much too soon who have yet to do sh*t, phcuk an individual stat, SMH

  24. I am excited about the links…a lot of topics interest me. Especially the hair issue because I LOVE changing it up. I did not know that it was a thing, so yea.

The Shaq trade is all bad. I really thought it was a wrap for the Eastern Conference with that trade. I always LOVED KG so I am excited about that. Sorry Champ:(

The video vixen is fly! That is all…

  25. ““Constantly Changing Hairstyles? What This May Say About You”.”

Reading this now, and at quick glance, I thought the first picture of that model was Justin Bieber and his new haircut! I was about to rejoice that he finally cut off all that irrational hair. Ah well…

  26. @The Champster

“with the black, successful, and single woman hysteria finally fading, there’s a new whipping boy on the horizon, itching to be dissected and debated with the same fervor: the single and 30-something man. both the frisky’s “What The Hell Is Happening To 30-Something Guys?” and thedatingtruth’s “He’s Not a Catch He’s a Fugitive” contain the same basic premise: if you’re a 30-something man and not in a serious relationship, you more than likely suck walrus d*ck.”

Read both of those articles and I must say that I agree with about 87% of it. My own SO is one of them. Great guy but a slew of bad habits, had regressed into man-childhood… *Sigh* Its been such a task trying to break him out his bad habits. And the funniest part of all of it is that they think there’s nothing wrong with them, not getting married was “their” choice and they could have their pick if “they” wanted to… Riiiiiiiight. But like my mother said, you gotta train ‘em!!! And train them I shall….

One commenter over at The Frisky (one of my fav sites by the way, it’s how I found this one) said:

“My sister always says there are 3 types of 30 somethings single people. The career driven, the second spring, and the mess ups. The career driven is pretty obvious, they’ve been focused on their career so everything else came last. The second spring are those who’ve already been divorced or post super serious long relationship, they found out early on as opposed to 3 kids and a mortgage that the person they were with wasn’t a match. Then the mess ups… people who don’t have stellar career or haven’t had a serious LTR are usually still single for a reason. They suck at life.”

    Interesting……

    • @BKSweetheart

“post super serious long relationship, they found out early on as opposed to 3 kids and a mortgage that the person they were with wasn’t a match.”

This is me. Funny thing is my homeboys always talk about how they wish they were in my position. I don’t get how people let age and not their situation dictate when they get married or into a LTR.

  27. I went to high school with Robbie Tolan, the young man who was shot. I remember when the news broke in 2008; we were so worried that he might die or have more serious damage. He was shot in his own driveway of his house because the policeman thought he had stolen his own car. He mis-typed the license plate, of course.

In Houston, Bellaire has always been side-eyed for racial profiling. This really isn’t surprising but it is so frustrating.

  28. Thanks for the SponsorChange.org link. I love volunteering, and if someone’s going to help eliminate some of my debt, I’d be a fool not to sign up.

  29. I’m in my late twenties and a LTR is just not a good idea for me because I work in broadcasting and if I were to be presented with a position in a larger market, my SO would have to be willing to relocate. Chances are that won’t be in the cards. Whoever wrote that “What’s happening to 30-year-old men” needs to go back to the drawing board.

  30. Oooooook, I’ll just comment on the Cavs. Yeah he showed up, LBJ showed up and lost still. I adore my Cavs, but they failed themselves by giving up. I can’t forgive them for that but I am still a fan.

    Peace, Love and Chocolate
