“you p*ssy/nah, matter of fact u’s a d*ckhead/cause even when you look hard, you’re still sensitive“ –serius jones
a few years ago, one of my employees just happened to be that year’s miss pennsylvania. a nice enough sizzle from central pa, we had your typical friendly working relationship. we’d joke, i’d sign her timecards, and she’d rub my back while she’d ask me questions about benefits, master’s programs, and justin slayer.
since then, i’ve taken a passing interest in the miss usa beauty contest, especially the q&a segment. in ’07, i even created a drinking game involving overbites, prepositional phrases, and visible nipples called “kenny and chuck”, so it shouldn’t be a shock that i witnessed carrie prejean’s infamous public politcal faux-pas last week live.
“I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody there. But that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be”
predictably, her comments, an answer to a “do you believe in gay marriage?” query made by something called a “perez hilton”, birthed a mega mass-media sh*tstorm. blogs flared, gays snared, and lorenzo mata-real inexplicably became uglier.
yet, despite how you might feel about her personal politics, the attention given this (non)story is more proof that, like shaq, ice-t, and luvvies perm, political correctness needs to f*cking retire. although i understand and appreciate the initial impetus behind the idea of being PC, whats the point in living in a supposedly post-racial society if we’re a nation of sensitive ass, punk bitches scared to debate, contest, and offend each other?
so, people of vsb.com, when serius was defining the d*ckhead, was he referring to us?

the fact that people talk about private matters so openly creates issue. my aunt say that politics, race, and religion aren’t topics discussed in mixed company. and the more I live the more I understand and agree.
@The dutchess, i don’t know, i think an exchange (based on respect and a genuine seeking of knowledge) between a muslim and a jew, a christian and a buddhist etc, could really open people’s eyes. all this separation and lack of awareness are why people ask me how my family in afghanistan is doing.
@overit,
lmao! so, um….for real, how yo family doin?
@shatani, see that seat over there? sat.down.
*waving*
@overit, or ask me if I have any bean pies or if I will be selling final calls on the weekend…
thats one of the quickest ways to set me off off…
@shay_d_lady, LOL, not final call. that’s a whole other post. “get yo hands outts my pocket!!!!”
@overit, come check out my blog on wordpress……passion4wisdom.wordpress.com. Thank you in advance.
@The dutchess,
You are right. I make it a point not to discuss ish like politics, race & religion amongst folks I dont know well because we will disagree and if you make a foolish point like “Umm… if a white man has 1 Black friend, you cant consider him racist (and someone did say this to me once. And to make it worse, he was Black. I literally said “That is dumb as hell. iCant with you” and promptly ended the conversation)
I just can’t.
@Luvvie,
oh, i am all about telling people straight up, “yeah, we cant have this conversation.” they dont like it, but its for their own protection!
@shatani, clearly you can’t go trying to be NORMAL with everyone, i aint walking up to no klan member making my case, no ma’am.
i was making a general point that ignorance about the Lord’s other creations wasn’t part of his plan lol.
@overit,
oh no no…i would rather start the convo and then realize that i cant talk to this person, than just not start the convo at all. folks need to stop being so afraid of things unlike themselves….its annoying.
@shatani,
really? on all things? regardless?
I agree with overit in that (for me) certain circumstances where I just won’t kid myself into “trying” to start the convo only to realize what I already knew was bound to happen…me gettin all worked up…b/c the other person was beyond being “open/receptive” just plain a.$.$. backwards, ain’t never gonna change cuz they know they right…
i mean it’s like tryin to talk to someone who speaks a completely different language…or talking to the wall. My time, my energy can’t be thrown away on any/every body/thing.
pick your battles, so to speak…
@shatani,
to be honest, those conversations never really come up because *I* started it…but really, im open to talking about pretty much anything and i usually let the other person do a lot of the talking. but when they start to get foolish thats how i know its time to wrap it up…
i will admit, i know very few people who are like me in that regard! i’ll talk to people about whatever they feel comfortable talking about, until i see that its going down a road where they’re gonna say something and i can no longer respect them.
@The dutchess,
my aunt say that politics, race, and religion aren’t topics discussed in mixed company.
i think this can be done tactfully.
@The dutcheif topics such as these are never discussed in mixed company no one will ever learn anything
@Deviant,
I agree. There should definitely be open conversation about all of these things…just in a respectful manner.
@The dutchess, Come Check out my blog Its very new started two days ago but im sure you will enjoy. Thank you For The support in advance. passion4wisdom.wordpress.com
Our society is just one big arse contradiction. Like, with shows like “To Catch A Predator” gay marriage is really your biggest concern?
I know religion is the reason most people cite for their bigotry but if religion could speak it would tell yo punk, hypocrite arse to sat down. If you believe in God, you’ll let him do his job.
Furthermore, homegirl who said marriage should be between a man and a woman is part of the category of people i can’t stand: those who INHERIT their views. i think we all inherit religion and other things no matter what, but i went to a christian private school for part of my life, and i’m generally fascinated by religion. i have a pretty general knowledge of all religions, and not everything is as black and white as people conveniently seem. it def is a very personal thing and everyone who decides to follow an organized religion owes it to themselves to know what the heck they following and believe in.
and regardless, there is no excuse for bigotry, ignorance, and hateful speech and actions towards people who don’t act how you expect them to, its called life BI*CH.
@overit, I know religion is the reason most people cite for their bigotry but if religion could speak it would tell yo punk, hypocrite arse to sat down. If you believe in God, you’ll let him do his job.
Yes Mame, not sat down, but sat down some dam where.
People over in Jamaica killing men for being gay and raping women for being a lesbian but has no dam reason behind why they do it.
They quote Christianity but half of them never seen the inside of a church and the only Gospel they hear is the one song all Jamaican DJ’s feel they have to play at the begin of a party.
People over in Jamaica killing men for being gay and raping women for being a lesbian but has no dam reason behind why they do it.
when i heard about this i was blown away!! one of my homegirl’s is jamaican and was tellin me about how they gay bash in a lot of reggae songs. so terrible *sad face*
@Gem-nasty,
I’m baaaaaaaaaaaack. Five hour meeting is OVAH!
But to the point. Yes. Many reggae songs are of the extreme gay-bashing variety. Chi Chi Mon … that whole song talks about getting your people together, hunting down the gays and BURNING THEM.
TOK crushed my heart with that one.
@overit, If you believe in God, you’ll let him do his job!
And let the church say AMEN!
@overit, you hit the nail on the head
“If you believe in God, you’ll let him do his job”
“i can’t stand: those who INHERIT their views”
“with shows like “To Catch A Predator” gay marriage is really your biggest concern”
“its called life BI*CH.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself
@overit,
Furthermore, homegirl who said marriage should be between a man and a woman is part of the category of people i can’t stand: those who INHERIT their views.
please expound, overitey
@The Champ,
Methinks those that INHERIT their views are people who take what their parents’ views are as WORD without question. Yes, we’re raised with certain values, but at one point, one needs to step back and figure out whether we want to continue with those views/values/mores we were brought up to have.
@The Champ, Luvvie answered it. Basically, yes we all are born into some kind of religion/belief system. But, religion is not an heirloom, you don’t be something because your ancestors were. I think religion is a choice, and then a responsibility. You really believe in Jesus? Then conduct yourself accordingly, without leaving the parts that aren’t convenient to what society dictates.
@overit,
i understood the part about religion not being a heirloom. what i didnt get was how that automatically equates to feeling a certain way about gay marriage
@The Champ, for members of the “abrahamic faiths” christianity, judaism, and islam homosexuality is a sin based on their scriptures which they believe to be from God directly.
now, gay marriage has not been addressed specifically, but if homosexuality is a sin, then it follows gay marriage might also be considered one.
i know in the islamic faith, its not a sin to have feelings for another man, but it is to act on those feelings…lool, not much of a consolation, but that’s what it insructs.
am i answering your question?
@overit,
you’ve answered it, but it still doesn’t speak to the people who think “gay marriage” is an semantic oxymoron (read: “me”), and those feelings have nothing to do with religion.
maybe i misunderstood your original statement. are you saying that the fact that miss snizzle doesnt believe in gay marriage is proof of her views inheritance, or that her reasoning behind her belief is the proof?
@The Champ,
i can’t speak for overit but Miss California cited her reasoning for thinking marriage should be between a man and a woman only was because that’s how she was raised so that’s why she believes that.
@The Champ
Must say I am one of those who believes that gay marriage is a semantic oxymoron. While I’m Christian, growing up I don’t recall a lot of attention put on that topic. Wasn’t as openly prevalent, I guess. If you want the rights that come with marriage in a homosexual relationship, that’s straight(pun intended). However, if you want to go into a Christian church, or gathering place for whatever religion or belief, to perform an act that is considered a sin or what have you, in that religion, I don’t understand the confusion of why people would be against it. Now, can’t say that I believe state has a place in that. So why is there all this hoopla about what the chick said?? Why are we judging her for her beliefs?? She isn’t allowed to believe that marriage should be reserved for a man and woman, with a shitstorm raining down on her?? WTF? I’m pretty open minded, and God is love, so….Do what ya do. Not like the chick said all gays should not only be denied marriage, but they should all be cast into a pit of fire wearing gasoline drawers!! lmao
Quite off topic, but wanted to say my piece…:)
@overit,
Like, with shows like “To Catch A Predator” gay marriage is really your biggest concern?
Pretty much.
Like really? Is what people do in their bedrooms the most important thing in the streets right now? Come on.
@Sula,
“Is what people do in their bedrooms the most important thing in the streets right now? Come on.”
Apparently so. I truly wonder why people are so concerned about people’s bedroom antics. It’s in no way effecting them, yet they’re soooooo passionate about it.
@Sula,
Apparently, what people do in the privacy of their own homes and boudoirs has always been whats steaming in the cul de sac to the Gubment. The fact that sodomy was considered a crime at one point lets you know. H*ll, I bet its still a crime in some places.
@Luvvie, it’s still a crime in a lot of southern and mid-western states like Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Texas…the list goes on. Some states make it specific to same-sex or unmarried couples, others do not.
@Miss Patterson,
You’re right. This couple got arrested here (TX) back in the late 90′s or early 00′s (can’t remember) because the police accidentally knocked down their door and they were “engaged” in some activities.
Now mind you the cops were on a 911 call and went to the wrong location, and these two guys still got arrested on them archaic laws.
@miss t-lee,
wow! that is some bovine excriment if I ever heard it.
“given this (non)story is more proof that, like shaq, ice-t, and luvvies perm, political correctness needs to f*cking retire”
A Plague on all your Kangols, Champie. A PLAGUE! May your hats shrink and your egghead enlarge, and may your morning toast be full of albino roaches.
@Luvvie, i really hate all ya’ll for even exposing me to the fact albino roaches exist.
ok, and what happened to these fools??
http://growabrain.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/bird_dogs_2.jpg
@overit,
And I hatechu for sharing that picture. That is disturbing yet highly hilarious!
@Luvvie, clearly Mr. Ed did not discriminate.
@overit,
(in a fit of tears)…how are they old and young @ the same time?
@Resident GRitS,
LMAO at old and young at the same time. hahahaha.
@Resident GRitS, girl i don’t know. iDied when i saw the pic, i was literally in tears and i had to close my computer.
@overit,
I’ve never ever seen a dog (for that matter 3 dogs) that needed braces…
hilarity!
@overit,
lol, when i first clicked that link last night, i was in tears for at least 5 minutes. what do you name a dog that looks like that?
@The Champ, LOL. i have no idea, we should ask the folks at the shelter they stay at.
@The Champ,
“what do you name a dog that looks like that?”
50 Cent’s Canine Clone?
@Luvvie,
may your morning toast be full of albino roaches.
i was JUST about to bite into a nice slice of toast with melted butter and organic granadilla jam, when i read that!!
thank you much for this horrid image!!! thanks EVER so much!!!!
*shuddering as i put the toast back on my breadplate*
While Congress is running around worrying about same-sex marriages, they need to be fixing this topsy-turvy economy. It KILLS me how messed up Washington’s priorities are.
And also, what happened to the separation of Church & State?
@Luvvie,
have they ever REALLY been separate?
@shatani,
Nope. Never. Guess we shouldnt expect it now. The fact that Christmas, a Christian celebration is a federal holiday, while stuff like Ramadan gets no love, makes this glaring.
@Luvvie,
I always used to wonder “Is it just me…”
@Luvvie,
While Congress is running around worrying about same-sex marriages, they need to be fixing this topsy-turvy economy
lol, theres like 200,000 people in congress. im sure they can find time to multi-task
@The Champ,
Or not. Clearly they cant chew gum and save the nation from a recession. Multi-tasking isn’t Congress’ best suit. Why else does it take MONTHS r sometimes YEARS to pass bills into laws? It aint just filibusting holding it up.
Did you learn NOTHING from the “I’m just a bill” cartoon from Conjunction Junction?
@Luvvie,
Did you learn NOTHING from the “I’m just a bill” cartoon from Conjunction Junction?
junction deez
@Luvvie,
Luvvie… get your inner fashion designer on and create a customized t-shirt for the Champ.
it should say
_(insert word from your comback at my lameness)__ DEEZ.
@blackberry molasses, we’re working on it lol.
@blackberry molasses,
Well, in the meantime, I think we should make Champ get an “iCan’t.” T-Shirt. Dontcha think?
I have more of a problem with the question being posed, than with her answer.. he-ll you asked you have to be prepared for a person to answer honestly and lets be real, based on the numerous states in which gay marriage has been banned, it should be expected that there are some people out here that arent on board with it.. get over it I actually have a lot of respect for her telling how she really feels, I dont agree with her stance but I respect her decision to feel that way. now whether or not I agree that it should be up to the people to vote on it is a whole different issue….
@shay_d_lady, agreed. Can’t really get mad at her for answering the question honestly.
@Bourgie Bama,
welcome and sh*t
@The Champ, every time you welcome someone, i chuckle. do you have a rolodex of vsb commenters?
though i will say i recognize its a new commenter, i just am never as sure as u lol.
@The Champ, Thanks. Been lurking in the comments section for a while now.
@Bourgie Bama,
welcome!!!
*shooting gold stars*
@shay_d_lady,
now whether or not I agree that it should be up to the people to vote on it is a whole different issue….
well, how do you feel and sh*t?
Yeah, I agree. If you ask a person a question, be prepared for the answer. I saw nothing offensive about her answer, its how SHE feels. This whole b*tchassness surrounded by her honesty is totally immature, in my opinion.
@shay_d_lady,
“I have more of a problem with the question being posed, than with her answer..”
I agree. And this is where PC really shines. Had she been the most articulate woman in the world, with 45 secs on the clock to discuss such a sensitive issue she was bound to shock and offend. You kinda have to be plainspoken and concise when you’re doing pageant questions
I’m REALLY trying to find the huge appeal in Perez and how he got to be this blogging extraordinaire that he is today. Him drawing random white lines on people’s pictures makes not an interesting read. Plus, I’m sorry but Perez looks like he is on a strict 2 showers a week diet. He just looks like his essence ain’t clean. Like his aura is the color of pickle juice. He may need some Drano or Ajax to get clean. He just looks dingy and moldy. He looks like he smells like hypocrisy and luck. The fool is famous and can’t nothing but luck explain it.
And, he is good for calling celebrities fat when he looks like he could stand to dilute himself of some carbs and cholesterol *rolls eyes*. And the multi-colored hair? EEWWW! Makes him look like a leprechaun skittled on his head. Perez, please go SAT DOWN!
@Luvvie, dont forget them TEEFS!!!!
@Luvvie, Standing Ovation, * encore* You did that!
@JamaicanGirl,
*curtsies*
@Luvvie, I’ve always thought he was just a miserable man. How else can we explain him thinking it was his DUTY to out people who were minding their own business?!
@Hostess,
Bitter b*tches like Perez Hilton need company so he is clearly trying to get some. And no, I ain’t call him a “b*tch” b/c he’s a gay man. I just cant find a better word to describe his antics.
@Luvvie,
there is no better word to describe his antics.
@Luvvie,
This description is just first class!
Luvs, luvs, luvs it!
I’ve had a love/hate relationship with perez hilton but am now firmly in the ‘go sat the f?ck down somewhere and think about your lifespace’ camp.
I’m trying to get with the whole miss usa is supposed to represent us all and speak eloquently and that jazz. but d@mn it, you posed a hot button question and you got an answer you didn’t like. oh well.
I can see how she could might maybe have cleaned up her delivery a little but still…would you rather she lied? folk are saying she could’ve danced around the question and given a vague answer that would’ve made sarah palin moist with glee but sh!t i’d rather have someone who was honest and stood up for what she believed in even though I don’t agree with her rather than a chick who just says what people want to here. but then again lying is the american way right? so I guess we got the best representation after all since she didn’t win.
@SouthernGirl,
lamo at “moist with glee” wow…
@SouthernGirl, exactly! whats funny is being open minded does not mean only taking the minority or the politically correct side.. it means excepting that everyone has an opinion and a right to it and its not going to be the same as yours. She didnt say anything wrong and she shouldnt have to change her answer because a gay guy asked it.. I mean if a white person asks me about slavery am I supposed to say.. you know, now that you ask I dont t hink it was that bad, ala soulja boy? YUUUUULE !
@shay_d_lady,
“whats funny is being open minded does not mean only taking the minority or the politically correct side.”
I so feel you on that…my biggest problem with the whole situation is that he called her a beyatch and a c*nt because of the answer she gave and then would not apologize! To me he embodies closedmindedness at its best. Regardless of how you felt about the content of her answer, it is not appropriate to call her out of her name because she has a difference of opinion.
To me he embodies closedmindedness at its best.
indeed. and many gheys are just as mean, insensitive, intolerant, ignorant, and RUDE as heteros. just cuz you are discriminated against because of your lifestyle doesn’t give you a free pass to be a jerk.
@shay_d_lady,
“whats funny is being open minded does not mean only taking the minority or the politically correct side.”
i think this is my biggest issue with this entire story. it seems like the most “liberal” people can sometimes also be the most intolerant.
@The Champ,
it seems like the most “liberal” people
I would be hard pressed to include Perez Hilton in “the most liberal people” group… The guy can barely think.
@Sula,
I would be hard pressed to include Perez Hilton in “the most liberal people” group… The guy can barely think.
lol, there are dummies in all walks of life.
I heard vaguely about her answer, but Miss USA doesn’t matter enough for me to care.
I take this stance, if you ask a question then be prepared for an answer.
I think PC has morphed into don’t say anything that anyone may not like. I’m in grad school so I expect to disagree with someone. As long as we disagree on what we think, I have no problem with opinions being voiced.
Silencing of dissent is not a good look for a supposedly “open society.”
If I’m not mistaken, are they supposed to ask questions where the only answer is world peace, anyway?
@Stank-0,
***nodding head and sh*t***
I’m not an entertainer…I have a limited interest and level of patience for most people. It’s not that I think most people are stupid, but…often people zealously have a stand or conviction they can’t even define/defend/debate. I just can’t invite elevated blood pressure and aneurisms into my life so carelessly. Its crazy when you actually listen to the ignorant stuff people say out they mouth over stuff that is ridiculous…
Example: This past November…I was at work…I walked into our break room to get some water…NPR was on the Radio and they were talking about Pro. 8. A co-worker, who I don’t really know but who I shared a cigarette-relationship with (meaning we’d bum off each other, or ask for a light etc., no real knowledge of the other person), was in the room getting something says…
Her: I hope they ban that foolishness, it don’t make no sense….
Me: I actually support Gay-Marriage. (As I get my water and leave)
—-awkward pause— Moments later…she comes to my work area and apologizes…
Her: I’m sorry…I didn’t know…I didn’t mean to offend you.
Me: I’m not offended. That’s your opinion…I just happen not to agree with you. It’s ok.
Her: *Smile…blank stare…Smile* Oh, ok…well I’ll talk to you later…
I mean c’mon now. This lady probably had so many different thoughts running thru her head…she probably made a bunch of assumptions about me…maybe even worried I had checked her out during a smoke break? H.e.l.l. I dunno…I’m not gay…but I betcha any money she believes I am simply b/c I didn’t support prop 8. Smh.
I’m sure this coulda be a prime example of someone who believed what they believed b/c that’s what they believe type of discussion…I just couldn’t entertain it or go there…it is what it is…
@Maria, Her: I hope they ban that foolishness, it don’t make no sense….
I have had this conversation at least twice a week since George Bush was re-elected..
also awkward the
they just need to get Christ in they life statement that they wait for me to co sign.. and when I say, well Im not christian you would have thought I kicked their dog..
@Maria, hahahahahhaha
“I just can’t invite elevated blood pressure and aneurisms into my life so carelessly” – i know what you mean, sometimes you need to just smile and wave…repeat…smile and wave…then vacate the room
she probably made a bunch of assumptions about me…maybe even worried I had checked her out during a smoke break?
i think even more than that, she was probably just shocked that because you didn’t agree with her, you didn’t make a big deal about it. not every disagreement must end in screams and ‘bows thrown. we can not agree and it be a peaceful situation — which throws some ppl off.
Oh don’t we all love the “Should Gays be allowed to get married” argument, it’s that entertaining. But what really gets some of my ignorant friends blood boiling is when i draw parralels between the fight for Gay rights and the struggles Darkies had for freedom. I say let the Gays also get married, they have every right to be as miserable as everyone else.
The nice thing about knowing someone is a D*ckhead, is that you get to jerk around with them and then watch them explode every single time.
@sisanda, Yes but the one difference that makes ghey rights and minority right different is that when a Black person or Asian person walks into the room, you know what they are 99% of the time. With gheys, they have the option of ‘passing’ way more than we do. Then we can get into whether they are born that way. Do rights extend just to people who are born that way or choose to be that way. It’s a slippery slope. I don’t see why we make such a big deal about it. The gheys are only a slim slice of the population. Let them marry and eat cake!
@Hostess,
The gheys are only a slim slice of the population. Let them marry and eat cake!
Right? I really don’t get what the whole hooplah is…
The D-head here is Perez Hilton. I stopped reading his site years ago for trying to force people out of the closet who aren’t ready to share their story yet. I believe everyone’s story is their own story to tell in their own time so for some azzshat to try and force someone’s private, PERSONAL business out in the open is lower than current interest rates on mortgages. Just cuz he’s all gay out in the open doesn’t mean everyone else is there yet. LEAVE QUEEN LATIFAH ALONE!
N E WAY…
All this PC ish has gotten outta control. I called Michael Baisden a HOT, GEECHIE MESS recently and someone got their panties in a bunch about the use of the word geechie. Where I’m from geechie means someone who is SUPER ghetto but thinks they are DOING-T it! I’ve always known it to mean that. I had no idea that there was a group of people who are called Geechie. Blew me away! I had no idea.
It made for some really interesting back and forth but my main argument never faltered. The definition of the word AS I KNOW IT does not match yours and never has. I have since said the word geechie once in describing some damn geechie azz nail art and it fit even as I was looking over my shoulders and ish for the PC police. The person I said it to had never heard of Geechie people either.
Eh…maybe they need a PR department.
@CreoleInDC,
“LEAVE QUEEN LATIFAH ALONE!”
::chuckling::
@CreoleInDC,
interesting and sh*t
@The Champ,
Hmm… this comment used to say “Geechie Deez”. I liked that better lol
@Luvvie,
me 2…
@Luvvie,
***pleading fif***
@Luvvie, LMAO i peeped that too.
@The Champ,
Damn Gino! Why you changed? You trying to act like you like women today and being all nice and ish?
@CreoleInDC,
lol. My paternal grandma’s fam is Geechie. They’re mostly in Georgia/SC and retained a lot of their W. African heritage, especially in their speech (they have smthg like their own patois dialect, some folks even call it a language) and agricultural style. I could see how an actual Geechie would get pissed about this tho.
@Me fail english?, i can too. i’ve been fascinated with the geechee & gullah culture for a long time now. i’m so fascinated in fact, i’m working with my former history teacher to take some students out to georgia to visit. yay!
@overit,
Damn, I wish I could do some real research aside from listening to Grandma’s embellishing (read: lying) ass. She doesn’t enjoy talking to me much anyway since I barely drink.
All I had growing up was her and Nickelodeon’s ‘Gullah Gullah Island’…which I’m not even sure made reference to the culture.
i loved that stupid show. “come and let’s play together, in the bright sunny weather, let’s all go to Gullah Gullah Island…”
@Gem-nasty,
Binyah-Binyah Pollywog was the shizzle.
Our nation of people have become as sensitive as a woman on the first day of her cycle. We have also become extremely nosey.
It sems that you can’t say much about anything publically before someone is up in arms and waging attacks against it. I wonder if the people in other countries go through this as much as we do. Prolly not, they are focusing on more important shat- like just trying to survive.
On the other hand, we need to be conscious of not making any blanket statementsabout a group- which she did not do, so I don’t understand the big whoop about it. She gave her opinion and said that is how she was raised.
@Nicki Sunshine,
I wonder if the people in other countries go through this as much as we do
nah, lol. there’s nothing to worry about if you’re not allowed to speak
@The Champ,
nah, lol. there’s nothing to worry about if you’re not allowed to speak
There are other countries besides the United States and China, you know…
@Sula,
word?
@The Champ,
Yup. That’s the latest news on Reuters, hon.
I had been trying to figure why Perez Hilton was so mad with this chick.
There are plenty of people who don’t agree with gay marriage, or anything gay for that matter. So really, you’re gonna pick on this Miss USA chick for stating her opinion? It just silly.
I really think they set her up anyway. What happened to the generic “how would you obtain world peace?” question?
This was my favorite from a few years back (SFW)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww
@miss t-lee, That’s one of those “thank God you are pretty,” moments.
@Nicki Sunshine,
‘Fa sho’.
@miss t-lee,
Initial, initial, and co-sign your statement! That was a total set up. Besides that, Perez didn’t have any business judging a beauty contest, let alone asking some question about gay marriage. Seriously, who really cares?
Her opinion is her own, and since it doesn’t have any bearing on how she looks in a swimsuit and stilettos, what difference does it make?
It’s a BEAUTY contest for crying out loud, it’s not like she’s running for the next Prime Minister of Great Britain – jeez.
And really, I’m SICK of gay folks taking offense to every damn thing anyway. Suck it up (no pun intended) and deal with it – not everyone is going to accept them, and they need to get over it. Hell, not everyone accepts us, but it don’t stop our world from spinning.
@RedBeanzNRice,
“And really, I’m SICK of gay folks taking offense to every damn thing anyway. ”
I heart the Gays. Really, I do. I’m a Hag b/c of my shoe game. But there is a tendency for some to be over-sensitive about their people discriminating on them. When I wrote my “Dear Kanye…” post and said that in a picture of him and his posse, none of them looked like they liked women, and The Black Snob featured it on her site. Some of her commenters called me homophobic. WTF? Me??? I wanted to *wall slide* until i realized that some folks just need to sat down.
Well, then I said that stud lesbians scare me sometimes. But they really do. The ones I encountered in college always acted like every woman was only straight until she met the right Stud. EEK!!!
@Luvvie,
I saw that Luvvie…they were tearing you a new arsehole over there…LMAO!!! One comment and all heyll breaks loose.
@miss t-lee,
Gurl I know and I made it a point not to respond because:
1. I don’t have to justify my thoughts to complete strangers, especially those who try to be eThugs, getting all gully behind a keyboard.
b. If I replied and got talked to foolishly, I’d have roast tourette’s and never stop roasting the commenters. It open Pandora’s box and by the time I’m done, even Hope would have escaped.
@Luvvie,
Oh I understand completely.
I thought you’d handled yourself accordingly.
@miss t-lee,
I saw that Luvvie…they were tearing you a new arsehole over there
is there such a thing as a quadruple entendre?
@The Champ,
No.
@The Champ,
hee-hee!!!! I didn’t even realize how that sounded when I typed it before…lol
@Luvvie,
Well, then I said that stud lesbians scare me sometimes. .
They scare me all the time.
@Luvvie,
“Well, then I said that stud lesbians scare me sometimes.”
That conjures up all kinds of uncomfy feelings for me. *shivers* Girl, I’ve been hit on by more than a few of them masculine broads, and truth be told, it’s HELLA scary. I mean, we can be cool and all, but when you start telling me I’m “lookin’ kinda right in them jeans…” ? It’s one of those uncomfy moments where you’re just not sure what to say cause you don’t want to offend Bertha, but you don’t want her to think she got action if that’s not the case. And you SHO DON’T wanna get into a tussle with that big broad.
Damn Applebottom jeans – damn them to hell!
@RedBeanzNRice,
hmmm..i had an old classmate come at me on facebook with that foolishness. i too heart the gays so it wasn’t that. i was pissed because she knew i didn’t get down like that and was coming at me all sideways about testing or converting me or some such.
took all i had to only talk sternly to put her back in her place and not to cuss and call her errthang but a child of god. soon as i figure out how to e-cut a b1tch it’s gon’ be on!!!
@RedBeanzNRice,
And really, I’m SICK of gay folks taking offense to every damn thing anyway.
my sentiments too. not that i’m not sensitive to their plight and the ridiculous feelings ppl have towards the gheys, but at some point you just have to say “when in rome” and get over it. some battles just need not be fought. it’s a waste of energy.
Yeah and fcuk these sensitive azz companies and IT departments that block sites that use profanity etc from their employees. Interesting that the author of this post would have a growing aversion to the “PC” culture. Heavens I thought you were the President of VSB office of standards and practices. dcik out middle fingers high! PC = Censorship. The balance is hard and soft. Milky McCreamy nggiers shrink in silence.
@Dice Vegas,
Interesting that the author of this post would have a growing aversion to the “PC” culture. Heavens I thought you were the President of VSB office of standards and practices
practice deez
This whole thing is some BS. So because HE (yes Perez is a dude) wanted to advance his political agenda and she didn’t jump on board, she’s wrong? BS! If anything, she should get props for being honest. What Perez did was a straight bey-otch move–which isn’t surprising considering his who being is bey-otch made. I mean he gained fame from outing people!! Complete douche-bag!
@Hostess,
Tell em why you mad son.
@Hostess,
“So because HE (yes Perez is a dude) wanted to advance his political agenda and she didn’t jump on board, she’s wrong?”
It was totally biased and wrong on his part. She gave her opinion, but because it didn’t jive with his feelings, he gave her a zero.
He should have taken himself and his personal views OUT of the equation – that’s what a real judge would have done.
He made that question/answer all about him when it should have been about her and how well she responded in content, diction, pitch and poise. But everybody knows that’s Perez’s M.O. – it’s always all about him.
i do agree that in American society ppl are too sensitive about the wrong things. so Miss California believes marriage is between a man and a woman, ok. but Perez Hilton calling her a dumb b***h isn’t going to change her mind about gays. did you really expect EVERYONE would say “yay to gays” when her state passed Prop 8?!?! HELLO. but anyway, name calling and insults doesn’t bring any resolution to the issue at hand — challenging long held perceptions of homosexuality and society. it’s not really about morals, because even the most church-goingest “Christians” battle morality on a second-to-second basis, especially when it comes to alcohol/drugs and sex. but the acceptance of gay marriage brings up a bunch of other issues that force American society to challenge their beliefs and confront a lifestyle that hasn’t typically been accepted as the norm. besides, most homophobes are closet gheys anyway.
and Luvvie made a comment the other day about For the Love of Ray J winner Cocktail and her family were a caricature of mexican culture and mexicans should be offended. but why?? there was nothin stereotypical about her or her family. and even if there were, why should i care?? Cocktail and her family don’t represent all mexicans nor would i expect them to. there are worse stereotypes and depictions of mexicans than them taking tequila shots before dinner (which is a stereotype i’ve never heard of). some things just aren’t worth even thinking about or gettin upset over. it’s just not that deep.
@Gem-nasty, “did you really expect EVERYONE would say “yay to gays” when her state passed Prop 8?!?! HELLO. but anyway, name calling and insults doesn’t bring any resolution to the issue at hand — challenging long held perceptions of homosexuality and society.”
Exactly!
@Gem-nasty,
Well I guess if a Half Mexican ain’t mad that once Ray J crossed into the threshold of Cocktail’s household, he tripped and fell into Cuervo shots, then I shouldn’t feel any way about it.
But I know I woulda been miffed if watermelon slices and chitlings were waiting on the dinner table at Unique’s house. But thats just me. Stereotypes.
@Luvvie,
But I know I woulda been miffed if watermelon slices and chitlings were waiting on the dinner table at Unique’s house. .
Quit lying you would have ate all the watermelon and chitlings and asked if they had some more in the back.
hahaha. I kid I kid.
@V Renee,
I’da KILLT the watermelon in one swoop. But chitlings are gross @ me. I’da sprinkled them with holy water and yelled “Get thee behind me!!!”
@Luvvie,
the whole cuervo shots (to me) was attributed more to Cocktail (i mean the child’s moniker was COCKTAIL for cryin out loud) than mexicans liking tequila, which they do. jose is a near and dear friend of the culture. but so what?? i found it more odd than i did offensive on some “damn messicans always showing their culos on tv”
and if Unique’s family had served watermelon, kool-aid, fried chicken, mac n cheese and greens, i woulda been like “dang, can i get some but substitute the kool-aid for iced green tea??”
in my opinion, not all stereotypes are negative or are something to be ashamed of. certain things just don’t bother me or cause me to feel “some type of way”.
@Gem-nasty, and if Unique’s family had served watermelon, kool-aid, fried chicken, mac n cheese and greens, i woulda been like “dang, can i get some but substitute the kool-aid for iced green tea??”
isn’t that basically what they served though? lol. i remember cause i was looking at their table like gimme!
LOL i don’t even know. that’s how uninterested in their meal i was. i was tryna watch/hear Mama Unique make Ray J sweat and squirm in his seat. and she succeeded.
@Gem-nasty,
“i woulda been like “dang, can i get some but substitute the kool-aid for iced green tea??”
Oh, ok Senorita San Diego – so now you too good for Kool-Aid? Even the red kind? Come on now, you KNOW you like that scrawberry!
LOL!!! yes, yes i am too good for kool-aid. who really wants diabetes in a glass?? not me. granted, table sugar is better than HFCS but i’ll just pass on the artifical flavors. OJ, grapefruit juice, green tea, and plain ol H2O are fine with me.
@Gem-nasty,
“who really wants diabetes in a glass?”
You foolish.. but perhaps correct. My grandmother’s Kool-aid used to be so sweet, it had the consistency of syrup.
It’s really interesting to me that if she were asked that question 10 yrs ago her answer wouldn’t have been that controversial. Hell she wouldn’t have been asked that 10 yrs ago. If it wasn’t offensive 10 yrs ago, why is it sooooo outrageous now???
On the other hand sometimes we are quick to call a group sensitive when WE aren’t on the receiving end of some offensive comment (but I don’t view “I don’t believe in gay marriage” as an offensive comment).
@K.,
“If it wasn’t offensive 10 yrs ago, why is it sooooo outrageous now???”
Same reason slavery was legal in 1853 but not in 1863. A decade is a long time. Times change and people adapt to it. I’m not saying that what she said was offensive (I actually dont think it was at all. Closed-minded and archaic? Yes. Offensive? Not so much).
But is it really close-minded?
I think close-minded is a response like, “Not only do I think gays shouldn’t be married, but I also think they should run to the closest church, douse themselves in holy water, and then change thier gay ass ways”.
That to me, is close-minded. But simply saying, “hey no offense, but that isn’t something I believe in”…well hell, that’s just honesty. She’s not asking that gays change, or that they should get themselves some religion, or any of the dumb things I hear homophobic people say. You know what I mean?
@Luvvie,
Slavery? That’s a big jump. We’re talking about things that people say, not human bondage. Slavery didn’t actually end in 1863 and it tool a lot more years after that things to change in a meaningful way.
@K.,
On the other hand sometimes we are quick to call a group sensitive when WE aren’t on the receiving end of some offensive comment
I think there is a lot of that going on…
@K.,
“I don’t view ‘I don’t believe in gay marriage’ as an offensive comment.”
It’s not the comment that is offensive, as much as it is the sentiment behind it. Saying you “don’t believe in gay marriage” is like saying you don’t believe in dinosaurs. The existence of gay unions is an empirical fact. Belief has nothing to do with it. They are out there, all coupled up and buying houses, raising kids and splitting bills.
Inadequate articulation aside, the contestant was really saying that she doesn’t agree with homosexuality as a lifestyle. That’s the problem that I have with so many arguments against legalizing gay marriage. They aren’t based in law, it’s more about personal feelings about what other folks do in the comfort of their bedrooms. (For that matter, why is it that we tend to only view homosexuality in terms of bedroom activity? Romantic orientation is far more about the emotional connection than it is about the physical. That’s why so many alts are able to “pass” as straight for so long. In the end, chex is just stimulation. )
Anyway, my personal feelings, religious beliefs, or vague discomfort at the notion of personally participating in your chosen bedroom activity has no place in legislation.
Furthermore, the most popular arguments are the ones most easily self-defeated.
“I’m against it because God doesn’t like it. They are going to HELL!!!!” Did they take out the scriptures on free will in your bible? People have the right to “go to hell” as quick and in whatever manner they choose. That hyprocrisy you’ve got there is a particularly obnoxious choice. Good job.
“Marriage should be between a MAN and a WOMAN so they can make BABIES and live happily ever after forever and ever amen!” Really? I always thought that marriage should be about two people with like affection and values building a life together, but I dunno. Let’s ask your 4th husband what he thinks. Besides, some people just shouldn’t procreate. Want proof? Here, gaze into this shiny spoon…”
Whatever to all that. Keep your peanut butter out of my chocolate, and I’ll keep my chocolate out of your peanut butter. Live and let live.
@Nikiloveli, love it. i’m totally in awe.
@Nikiloveli,
Saying you “don’t believe in gay marriage” is like saying you don’t believe in dinosaurs.
hmmm. not sure if i agree with that one.
actually i’m completely sure, i just like to use “not sure” at the beginning of sentences as a writing device to pretend that i’m more introspective than i really am.
@The Champ,
I’m sure I don’t agree with that one also.
@The Champ,
“i just like to use “not sure” at the beginning of sentences as a writing device to pretend that i’m more introspective than i really am.”
lol. I do this all the time and just wind up souding insincere and condescending.
@Me fail english?,
“lol. I do this all the time and just wind up souding insincere and condescending.”
Because you ARE! Embrace it! : )
@The Champ,
“hmmm. not sure if i agree with that one. ”
That’s okay. Everybody’s wrong sometime.
@Nikiloveli,
I’m not here to debate gay marriage. I just don’t feel strongly about it either way. I just don’t think the girl should’ve been vilified for answering a loaded question truthfully just b/c everybody suddenly jumped on the pro-gay bandwagon.
@K.,
I don’t agree with villifying her. People are who they are. My argument is that her assertion of not “believing” in gay marriage is syntactically incorrect. Which is why I drew the correlation between saying that and saying the same about dinosaurs, or any other proven and inarguable fact. Gay people are out there, and they are living lives in unions that are essentially marriage, in all aspects save legal semantics. What she meant to say is that she doesn’t agree with it, or that she doesn’t find it acceptable.
That said, my response wasn’t specifically addressed at you, either. Your comment just sparked the mental tangent that spawned my lengthy rebuttal.
@Nikiloveli,
People have the right to “go to hell” as quick and in whatever manner they choose.
indeed. the whole “but it’s in the Bible” argument never really worked for me, and i’m what i’d call a Christian. there are a lot of Biblical laws and principles that aren’t recognized in common US law. ppl pick and choose what they want to follow in the Good Book — or as my religion professor would say, “everyone has a canon within the canon”. so whatev. to each his/her own.
@Nikiloveli,
*slooooooooooow clap*
My sentiments exactly. If I had the power to vote on everything I disagreed on, stupid people would have disappeared off the earth. Thank god I don’t, because that would have been lots of grieving families…
I feel that we are turning into a society where we are constantly walking on egg shells. I think that everyone has a right to their beliefs & it is ok to voice that opinion in a way that doesnt disrespect someone that might have an opposing belief. Overall, I think it is about respect & acknowledgment of the next man no matter what.
I often feel like people get MAD when you dont agree with them and dont want to hear that I RESPECT WHERE YOU COMING FROM but HERE IS THE WAY I FEEL ABOUT IT. You cant make me believe in something that I dont. Just respect that I respect you and leave it at that.
We are too diverse and the world is getting smaller and smaller for us to keep craping on the next person’s belief.
@Yaa,
You cant make me believe in something that I dont. Just respect that I respect you and leave it at that. .
I so feel you on this. Sometimes I feel like people want everyone to think and act like that do. That would be SOOOOOO boring. People should be allowed to believe/think what they want. And they should be allowed to change their opinions on things.
@V Renee,
Sometimes I feel like people want everyone to think and act like that do. That would be SOOOOOO boring
good point. imagine how uninteresting the world would be if everybody acted and felt the exact same way?
@The Champ,
“imagine how uninteresting the world would be if everybody acted and felt the exact same way?”
You don’t have to imagine it. There are already some books write society ending up like this. “The Giver” is a REALLY good one.
@Luvvie,
Fahrenheit 451 and Brave New World explore groupthink themes as well. Catch 22 was prob the grandaddy of these. or at least the 2oth cent. precursor
I always feel all militant/anarchist after I read those
@The Champ, good point. imagine how uninteresting the world would be if everybody acted and felt the exact same way?
aw you should be a pre-k teacher. teach the babies champie, EARLY!
@The Champ, “imagine how uninteresting the world would be if everybody acted and felt the exact same way?”
that was so corny…it just reminded me of this PSA with Jane Krakowski from 30 rock…enjoy~
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQDyKU1yrCQ
@Yaa,
“You cant make me believe in something that I dont. Just respect that I respect you and leave it at that. .”
This is that good truth right there.
@Yaa,
I RESPECT WHERE YOU COMING FROM but HERE IS THE WAY I FEEL ABOUT IT.
The problem comes when the person who is coming from that “way” has the right to change/impose on my way. That’s the whole issue.
If it’s just beliefs that are floating around (do you believe in Capitalism or Socialism?) and that type of stuff, it might be ok. But when it’s a belief that can potentially change the life of the person in front of you, issues arise…
@Sula, But when it’s a belief that can potentially change the life of the person in front of you, issues arise…
. ne who. This is a great question, because questions like this always arise. Like in the news they are debating back and forth about the Geneva convention, torure, waterboarding, and whatnot. And on Faux News and all the right wing radio talk shows the commentators are posing the question: “Well what if your wife or family were in danger, Would you allow waterboarding then?” and I think it’s an unfair question… because we’re not talking about an imminent (spell check?) threat. It’s an interesting question to consider… did that make sense?
**waving @ my long lost e-twin** the block is off for the moment. I’m back! I’ve missed u and our intellectual symbiosis
You cant make me believe in something that I dont. Just respect that I respect you and leave it at that.
i feel you on this. but at the same time, many ppl believe in something just because. and i think it’s unfortunate when there are so many ignorant, closed-minded, non-truth-seeking ppl because they don’t allow themselves to see things from another perspective. i can respect that you have a different belief/opinion than me, but i don’t have to respect that you don’t even know why or for what reason you believe what you do. and that’s often when the conflicts arise.
@Gem-nasty,
but i don’t have to respect that you don’t even know why or for what reason you believe what you do. .
I can get behind this too.
For example, I have two co-workers, well 1 is really my boss, but we have “debates” all the time about different issues. Some of the ish they say is so phucked up. And the thing is they don’t even know why they feel certain ways about things. Their reasoning is flawed and they tend to hang around people who think and act just like they do. Sometimes the convos get heated and I have to take a step back into the shade because their ignorance can be so blinding.
I think that being gay is not a choice. I honestly believe that people are born gay; it’s not something you choose to be. But, I think that acting on gay tendencies is the choice, and that’s something I don’t necessarily agree with. I say that cause my uncle was gay and he fought his whole life to try not to give in to his feelings. Now, there are people who like to swing both directions, but that’s mainly because they like variety, I reckon.
Marriage should be between a man and a woman since the main purpose of marriage is to have children and raise a family.
Bearing children is not something that occurs naturally between two people of the same sex, so biologically it’s an abnormal union. I have nothing against gays – whatever they want to do is between them and our Creator, but my opinion is that marriage should be between the opposite sex.
And I don’t understand the term “homophobia”. Isn’t a phobia a fear? If you just don’t like gay people, you’re labeled as homophobic, but that would insinuate you’re afraid of gays, when the reality is that you just don’t like them. Wouldn’t “anti-gay” be a more accurate term?
Now, am I going to be banned from VSB?
@RedBeanzNRice,
“I think that being gay is not a choice. I honestly believe that people are born gay; it’s not something you choose to be.”
Unless you’re a 2520 sorority college girl.
@Luvvie,
“Unless you’re a 2520 sorority college girl.”
You had to go there, huh? LMAO!
@Luvvie, LOL!
@RedBeanzNRice,
But, I think that acting on gay tendencies is the choice, and that’s something I don’t necessarily agree with. .
So should they just act like they don’t have the tendencies and force themselves to act differently?
@V Renee,
“So should they just act like they don’t have the tendencies and force themselves to act differently?”
Nope. They should do whatever they’re gonna do. All I said is I don’t necessarily agree with it.
And I don’t have to either – even though my views on their actions don’t amount to a hill of beans in the scheme of things – it’s still my viewpoint.
@RedBeanzNRice,
Gotcha. You’re right you don’t have to agree with their choice to act at all. I just wondered where you stood since you said you believe people are born gay.
@RedBeanzNRice,
And I don’t understand the term “homophobia”. Isn’t a phobia a fear? If you just don’t like gay people, you’re labeled as homophobic, but that would insinuate you’re afraid of gays, when the reality is that you just don’t like them. Wouldn’t “anti-gay” be a more accurate term?
i’ve always wonder this as well. i’m sure i could probably find the answer online somewhere, but vsb threads are the new google
@The Champ, well ignorance and fear are related right? people were ignorant about black people, and were scared of them too…i don’t know where i’m going with this.
carry on.
@The Champ,
The Merriam-Webster defines homophobia as the “irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals “.
@RedBeanzNRice,
i was with you on the born that way angle and then you went left! lol. see, i respectfully disagree.
anyways…just a question. are you then okay with the whole ‘civil union’ term? it seems to me that some who are opposed to ghey marriage are more up in arms about the word ‘marriage’ with the gheys even though they are doing the same things and fighting for the same rights as hetero married couples.
@SouthernGirl,
“are you then okay with the whole ‘civil union’ term? it seems to me that some who are opposed to ghey marriage are more up in arms about the word ‘marriage’…”
Well really, it’s not the terminology at all. Basically marriage and civil union are the same thing except one of the two isn’t viewed as being done “in the sight of God”.
I don’t think I took a left, but it’s cool to respectfully disagree – we all have our views. : ) My thing with the whole marriage/civil union issue is that I just don’t agree with it because it’s not the natural order of things. Now really, I’m not against anyone doing whatever they want to do – it’s not about gay rights, it’s about HUMAN rights – but at the same time I don’t have to agree with their choices. Put it this way – I wouldn’t vote yes on prop 8, and I wouldn’t vote no on prop 8 cause what they do doesn’t affect me either way, I just have a view about it.
@RedBeanzNRice,
“Well really, it’s not the terminology at all. Basically marriage and civil union are the same thing except one of the two isn’t viewed as being done “in the sight of God” –> gotcha.
“I don’t think I took a left, but it’s cool to respectfully disagree – we all have our views. : ) ” –> no prob. i meant took a left for me since we disagree so naturally, to you, you stayed on course. no harm, no foul.
see how easy that was? no VSS’ were harmed during the course of this discussion.
can’t we all just get along?!?!?!? *insert shrieking wail and wall slide*
@SouthernGirl,
“see how easy that was? no VSS’ were harmed during the course of this discussion.”
Don’t believe her, yall! She has me over here gagged and bound right now – it’s a wonder I even managed to untie my hands to type on the keyboard! HELP!
; )
@RedBeanzNRice,
lmao!
@RedBeanzNRice, Hey Red BeanzNRice, I just don’t agree with it because it’s not the natural order of things
If someone is born gay, isn’t that the natural order of things? Gay people have existed forever. Isn’t it possible that people are more diverse than just heterosexual? And that it’s ok for people to be the way they are? Gay people are like 10% or the population. How do we know that they aren’t one of God’s forms of population control?
@pgh muse,
“If someone is born gay, isn’t that the natural order of things? ” .
Good point.
@pgh muse,
“If someone is born gay, isn’t that the natural order of things?”
I see what you’re saying, but no, not really. While a person may be born gay, what’s natural is procreation – gay people (if in a same sex relationship) cannot do that. A person can be born missing an arm as well – but that’s not the natural order of things – it’s just something that happened.
@RedBeanzNRice,
So your personal view is that being born gay is a birth defect?
@Nikiloveli,
Very good point.
Even if we assume that it is in fact a birth defect, don’t we provide protections and equal rights for the handicapped? Shouldn’t that courtesy be extended to the so called “birth-defected gays”?
I don’t know we got a ways to go before everyone celebrates everyone else’s life choices. People still have their ‘issues’ w/ stuff that ain’t just like them. Maybe people need a subliminal message. (other people’s differences don’t take away from your being special they add to it)
N how you going to desensitize everyone unless you do some qt w/ em?
@WuDaMan,
(other people’s differences don’t take away from your being special they add to it)
And that’s the subliminal message that needs to be passed around….
@WuDaMan, that’s precious, like mini cupcakes with pastel sprinkles.
Pageants: A world where fakeness is overlooked at the best, lauded at the worst. I mean, the tired “world peace” answer speaks for itself. So she should’ve lied her arse off…especially in an area that gays drool over.
That said…
I have to respect her honesty. While I don’t agree with her, her statement may or may not have come from a place of hatred so much as a place of religion. Yeah, sometimes those two can blend so much that the become each other, but even if it were a place of hatred, she has her right to speak it.
That said again…
Enough with mofos claiming “free speech” everytime someone dares to disagree with them. I can see pulling that card when someone tells you not to say it, but for simply challenging their opinion. Um, they’re excercising their free speech just as much as you are. Free speech ain’t about being immune to someone challenging your opinion, it’s about the lack of government interference.
Oh, and on a sidenote, when I read the title, I thought the post was gonna be about some love letter to PCs (as in Microsoft) and a dissent against Macs. Which would’ve been hilarious if not anger-inducing. Naw, just kidding, I still play with PCs on the side (for work), but Macs are my main squeeze. And no, I don’t wear skinny jeans nor act smug about said love. Anyhow, I went off on some weird tangent…Love this discussion. Off to reading other people’s comments…
@Cheekie,
I have the same feelings about this situation (which I did know nothing about until this morning, am I living under a rock?)
Nah, you just dont care about dumb stuff, lmao!
(I didn’t know anything about it either, so that’s my answer and I’m stickin to it)
@Cheekie,
i thought the same thing about the PC! and i was all ‘i can’t wait to see how he’s gon’ tie this to a pageant’ until i hit the end of the paragraph. lol.
I agree with most everybody’s comments about respect. Amongst mature adults I don’t think that there is much discussion that should be off limits. If u don’t like it… then it’s not for you. Doesn’t mean that you have to go trying to hurt someone else because they live differently. People seem to forget that all we are is people. Prone to error, flaw, and fallibility. We are among God’s greatest creations (as far as we know), but we are hardly God. The vastness of the universe and everything in it, which god knows down to atoms should be proof to man that there are things that are just plain beyond his/her comprehension…
@pgh muse,
And that’s why I believe in our e-sisterhood.
@Sula, pgh muse
get a room.
@The Champ,

@pgh muse,

OK, these two links are the funniest I have come across re: gay marriage. Watch the first one, then the second. I’m over laughing out loud in my office, and I don’t care.

And I sweahfo 3 wise white men, Sweet Alabaster Brown Baby Jesus and his mother Mary, if you respond to this with a simple “no”, Champ, I will put a curse on your jean hems. Something along the lines of “may all hems of ur jeans fray, thereby rendering you…”
too late. all his jean hems are already frayed. *smh*

OK, these two links are the funniest I have come across re: g*y marriage. Watch the first one, then the second. I’m over laughing out loud in my office, and I don’t care.

I don’t really get what the fuss over PC is about and how it relates to people’s rights. (Full disclosure: I think it has its place).
Most anti-PC folks whether they’re in support of Imus or Kramer or Limbaugh are fighting for rights that havent been infringed upon. Maybe, I’m forgetting part of the story but I don’t remember a single one being locked up, sued, etc. This Miss USA girl is no exception, so how free speech makes its way into these convos is beyond me.
Now when you talk about Uncle Luke (didn’t they sue him?) you’d have a point. Even where it concerns KKK marching through black neighborhoods, I could see a valid argument for either side of the issue (though it should be obvious, my opinion on that
)
My point is simply, you have the RIGHT to be as un-PC as you’d like. Your audience also has a protected right to ridicule, ostracize, alienate and blog about you. I think the real crybabies are the ones who say some inflammatory ish and then get mad because they become a pariah. In the words of Lil John “Don’t start no s—, won’t be no s—”.
Free expression is a b1tch, and she goes both ways.
@Me fail english?,
“Free expression is a b1tch, and she goes both ways.”
I heart you for every possible connotation of that sentence.

I vote a front and back tee-shirt on this one.

ok, as i was just telling my etwin (overit), most arguments against gay marriage/civil unions are based on what ppl disagree with and find offensive. as if what ppl disagree with based on their beliefs was a good reason to pass a law. so, maybe as VSB post idea, we could be all list things we think SHOULD be illegal based on what offends us or what we don’t agree with.
a few things that offend me that could stand to be controlled by law:
-pot bellys protruding from the bottom of a too small fitted shirt
-being served kool-aid without having other drink alternatives
-exposed crusty feet
-halitosis
-Champ’s dancing (if that’s what you wanna call it)
i could go on but i’ll stop. i think my feelings against certain things are as valid legal cases as gay marriage/unions.
@Gem-nasty,
lol. good point.
I would also like to outlaw the following:
- MySpace
- shiny shirts
- double-dipping in my sauce
- spitting while talking
- scary clowns
- Rush Limbaugh (he’s not that popular, is he?)
- twinkies
- butt implants
- the smell of broccoli
- words that I can’t spell
The aforementioned offend my sensibilities and make me unhappy. God wants me to be happy because the Bible told me so.
I look forward to seeing all of your e-signatures on my online petition.
Thanks in advance!
edit: eBay should also be banned, as I don’t like when anyone uses it.
uh uh see. i LIKE the smell of broccoli. what are you tryna say about me?? that i like funny smelling things because i smell funny. who the **** do you think you are for not liking the smell of broccoli?!?!
*takes off earrings* OH HELL NAH!!!! meet me by Perez Hilton’s blogspot at 3p chick. it’s about to be on and poppin like some corn.
@Gem-nasty,
Look I don’t want any trouble! Some of my best car wash guys are broccoli guys and I know YOU people can be very sensitive. Let’s just forget about the whole thing. Deal?
*campaigns more vigorously for Broccoli Prohibition*
*snitches to VSB police*
YOU’LL BE SORRY!!!!
@Me fail english?, u don’t like EBAY?!?!… Why? it’s FUN!
@pgh muse,
It’s not so much eBay as it is Paypal’s thieving arses. I think eBay owns them so I’m just gonna throw a grenade at the whole operation. Me so solly!
@Me fail english?,
So my grandfather say Limbaugh is not as big of an ass as he claims. Its just that those anglos, not the phrase he used, paying him all that money.
@The Dutchess,
You know, some of my dad’s clients, whom I’ve become friendly with, also say he’s not as nihilic as liberal press paints him. He is still a very loud, ruddy cheeked man who doesn’t agree with me on at least three topics and therefore sha’nt escape my persecution.
@Gem-nasty,
“-pot bellys protruding from the bottom of a too small fitted shirt
-exposed crusty feet
-halitosis”
So you’re saying Star Jones should be illegal in all 50 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands?
the new star jones has a pot belly?? *smh* her surgeon didn’t do a very good job then.
but oh, don’t forget puerto rico (ayyyyye)
@Gem-nasty, -halitosis
-Champ’s dancing (if that’s what you wanna call it)
bwahaha @ halitosis! Remeber that Scope commercial from like the mid to late 90′s (i think) where in the commercial people would cover their mouths and go “WHOA!!” to people who had stank breath? hee hee hee… when this commercial was out, at school this was a quick way to shut somebody up. Just put your hand over your mouth and yell “WHOA!” like their breath was hot and tart enuff to press ur edges…. lol… just a funny thought. and
-Champ’s dancing (if that’s what you wanna call it)
hahaha! I think it will give me great delight to see this abberation.
like their breath was hot and tart enuff to press ur edges
LOL yes indeedy yes indeedy. when i’m wearing my hair festive (curly ringlets errywhere) i don’t need any bad breath somebody comin up and relaxing my situation.
and you may see such an aberration as Champie’s “dancing” at the happy hour… but be warned, it’s not pretty.
Ok, another issue I have with the bloggers specifically, is you have a talent with written (perhaps verbal?) communication. You’d take far less offense to people’s “simple” answers if you realized that facility with language is a gift! Just because someone can’t articulate their feelings in a cogent way doesn’t invalidate the sentiment!
By getting on TV she opened herself up to the attack. I just think it’s unfair to dismiss them as ignorant just cause they aint got that good english
*Begin Me Fail’s perfunctory, tangentially related, daily anecdote*
I remember in undergrad when I was taking some typea class on some sh1t and for some reason we start talking Election ’04. This one guy (who happened to be my friend and a staunch Conservative Republican) had the nerve to say he thought people should have to take an aptitude test to qualify for suffrage. I wanted to Wolverine swipe him! As if dumb people aren’t subject to our laws. As if CNN and the WSJ make you privy to the innerworkings of gov’t. How arrogant of you to deny who ignorant we ALL are, irrespective of intellect, about what’s really going on with Bush Co. I was mad at him for three days behind that! That is a very long time for me to stay mad as my attn span is…COOKIES!
@Me fail english?, I wanted to Wolverine swipe him!
lmao. Me fail is a girl after my own heart.
@Me fail english?,
“Just because someone can’t articulate their feelings in a cogent way doesn’t invalidate the sentiment!”
But whyyyyyyyy? **wall slide** It’s so fun!

Oh how I wish the flag bearer for this particular issue was anything other Perez, who is quite frankly silly and ridiculous IMO. On to the issue, at first I thought to myself it was a tempest in a teapot- it’s a Miss America pageant y’know?
But then again, I might be splitting hairs, but there’s a difference between saying e.g. “I don’t believe in inter-tribal marriages” and “I would never marry an [insert other tribe here]” – the latter I think is allowable- the former however, is bound to rile people up. Should people be riled/aggravated just because everybody does not believe in your views? Hmmm…this is the crux of the matter innit? That these are not views? That she’s co-signing/ endorsing a deliberate denial of basic rights that all Americans should enjoy?
Maybe I overstate.
But I might also react strongly, if ever I saw someone stand up and unashamedly promote the deliberate prevention of me getting my rights.
But not by calling her a c* or a b* though
Is it the thought that is offensive or the delivery?
There has to be some couth in the delievery of the message. Being tactful and using finesse when talking about sensitive topics is always best.

pay me to sleep? i think i’m in heaven!
Even if we assume that it is in fact a birth defect, don’t we provide protections and equal rights for the handicapped? Shouldn’t that courtesy be extended to the so called “birth-defected gays
