This morning I found myself humming the words to singer Joe’s song “All The Things Your Man Won’t Do”. This was a good song. There’s no two ways about it.
But was it a great song? I’m inclined to think that it had greatness potential. But then it went away and nobody remembers that song unless its playing somewhere. Just like Silk’s first album, Lose Control. Everybody remembers their song “Meeting In My Bedroom” from their second (or third…whatever) album, but every damn song on Lose Control was top shelf, pal.
Unlike T.I.’s “Whatever You Like”…that’s not top shelf. Ask L-O. He’ll tell you.
But even those songs pale in comparison to some of the love songs of the 60s and 70s. Bobby Caldwell’s “What You Won’t Do For Love” kicks rocks on most of the songs from the current crop note-wranglers. So this got me to thinking. And you know what happens when a brother like myself starts thinking.
I start pondering. And thoughting. And ruminating.
This evening I was driving back home from out in Maryland and R. Kelly’s song “Honey Love” came on. Now that song was meant for gettin’ your Clarence Carter on. But above all else, it was just a good song that seemed innocent enough. But we all know that his mind was telling him nooooooooooo, but his body had the Verizon Network. So I delved further and realized that R. Kelly is responsible for some of the greatest love songs of our generation (“Like That” is a personal favorite).
Another random thought: Most of us wouldn’t be here if not for music. Believe it or not, your parents probably got their monkeystroke on with some Isley Brothers “Between The Sheets” playing in the background. They just don’t tell us so that they don’t ruin these songs for us.
So, now that you’ve firmly been taken to “so what’s the point” land – here is the point. What is the best love song? This is one of the hardest questions to answer because there have been so many love songs. Hell, I can’t even come up with my own definitive greatest love song.
But I can tell you this, I do have one song that if a chick I was dating told me she didn’t like it, she’d have to go. Like for real. The song?
Con Funk Shun’s – Straight From The Heart. I’d straight drop a chick if she told me the song wasn’t good. I’d do the same with Donny Hathaway.
So people of VSB.com, who are celebrating this Friday like its your last, what is the best love song ever? And similarly, is there a song that you’d cut somebody back for? Basically, what’s “your” song?
(And don’t worry, I’m gonna be coming up with my own too.)
-VSB P aka THE ARSONIST aka TANGLE JIG P
By the way, in case you missed it, you can go and listen to me on Juice Radio with Miz D and “Real Talk Now” were I was a special guest for today’s Battle of the Sexes show. We had a lot of fun and I got pretty ignant at some point, I’m sure. Check it out here: www.blogtalkradio.com/juiceradio
Oh well, hello Kamakula. Seems like I’m on top 2nite *snicker*
Best love song is a toughie. But R. Kelly’s TP2 album got some great ones. (given, a bunch were great FREAK songs). I dont feel like digging deep 2nite. Will return with specifics in morn
Best heartbreak song: “Love Don’t Love Nobody” by the Spinners. That song is filled with angst.
Oh, ummm any song my Uncle Luffa V is panty-drop-inducing too. Well, BIG Uncle Luffa. Not the lil Luffa who’s curl ain’t… ain’t… quite curl all the way over.
LMAO @ Luvvie, why’d I hear Cedric in my head and see the visual of the circular motion with his index finger illustrating the rogue curl(s).
PJ, you’ve had the misfortune of meeting someone who is not down with Straight From The Heart? Where do you find these people? Just the idea of that is offensive. I’m mad I’m mad off a hypothetical situation lol.
So for love songs, since its late I will drop a few of my personal faves:
Anything by Sade, Love is Stronger than Pride is a great one.
Maxwell A woman’s Work owns one of my heartstrings
Lauryn Hill’s X Factor (as sad as it be, it be making you reflect and shyt)
Definitely anything by Big Luffa (air daps Luvvie)
Love, Need and Want You Ms. Patti
Debra Laws Very Special
I love Very Special… I couldnt remember who sang it though and love need and want is on one of my numerous posts below… LOL my favorite love joints off the lauryn album where
NOthing even matters and Tell Him
Overit, I like your list…you can’t go wrong with Sade or Maxwell. Every time I watch that scene from Love & Basketball and hear that song, I tear up.
Girl I love that song. I def remember that scene in Love &Basketball too. Omar Epps/ Q’s a*s messing with our emotions and shyt. I also like the original by Kate Bush…but def listen to Maxwell’s more often.
yes i am replying to myself to add Talib Kweli and Bilal “Talk To You”
*loud arse sigh*
yeah i have met some people who don’t love that song…they are now dead to me.
Yeeeesssss! This Woman’s Work has got to be one of my all time favorites! Good picks @ overit
hmm, so you’re noticing it’s a bit lonely up there. why don’t you come down and join me for a bit, i’ll have you singing the best love song ever
You’re right Kamakula. The top can get lonely sometimes.
And what is this “best love song” you speak of?
we’re about to write it my dear
Is it a complicated melody or a simple tune?
A very complicated melody filled with multiple crescendos. It will probably take us several hours to get it done. I hope you don’t have any plans that can’t be canceled this morning.
luvvie and kamakula – WHEN IS THE WEDDING??? good god, this cyber flirting is hectic, heh heh
Oh.My.Dayum.
Ooooo Kamakula. That sounds like an awesome opus with infinite riffs.
BOM CHICKA WAHH WAHHH!
*cough*
Carry on.
lmao!
whoo….. is any body else having hott flashes?!?! Multiple cresendos and awesome opus and sh*t….
is any body else having hott flashes?!?!
nope. just you
I loved R. Kelly and I think he has some great songs.
But it’s hard to call them great when you consider he might be thinking about a 12 year old girl while singing them.
“Forever, For Always, For Love”…Lalah Hathaway’s version, which I believe is much better than Mr. Vandross’, at least in my mind.
“Baby Love” by Mother’s Finest
“Sunshine of Your Love” by Cream…don’t sleep on those last two cuz they are “unconventional” love songs. Peep those lyrics!
And every duet that Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell sang. I was playing that at work today, lip synching for the Marshmallows. They loved the show.
Oh, the best break-up song: “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” by Rose Royce (although, I did love the version by Faith &MJB).
There was a particularly heart-wrenching weekend in September 1996 during which that song stayed on repeat whilst I drowned my tears and sorrows in bottles of Arbor Mist. *sadness*
i’m just sad about the arbor mist…. classy.
What? I was 23! I didn’t know any better. Give me a break, Unicorn Wrangler…
PBG, dont give us 23 yr olds a bad name. I’d AT LEAST have gotten a bacardi silver. hehehehe
Oh hush, Luvvie. I was 23 in 1996…it was a different time. We barely had the Intrawebs back then.
don’t worry PBG, at least it wasn’t Boones Farm.
LMAO the arbor mist just bout did me in too.
Break up song for me was _Im Catching hell by Natalie Cole
I think I gotta let it go by Teddy P and of course for a more up beat you can go with Love dont love you anymore. or you oughta know by Alanis
oh and Sideshow by blue magic is a classic
Sideshow makes me cry for no reason…
“Can’t afford to pass it by, guaranteed to make you cry…”
Then I do. Boo-hoo-hoo.
““Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” PBG–yeah that’s a good break up song–over hear singing the song now. “Just a vacancy…Love don’t live here anymore”
you know, my favorite breakup song is “I Don’t Love You Anymore” by teddy p. That song just cracks me up b/c it’s so festive and exciting. Like, heffa, I’m GLAD you’re gone!!!
Poof, vamoose, son of a b*tch.
LMAO
Its funny cause its true. That song is a toe tappin, hand clappin good time.
you know, my favorite breakup song is “I Don’t Love You Anymore” by teddy p. That song just cracks me up b/c it’s so festive and exciting. Like, heffa, I’m GLAD you’re gone!!!
Poof, vamoose, son of a b*tch.
exactly..all break ups arent tragic….
My favorite break up/kick rocks song is “lyin azz bit*ch” by Fishbone its just so..hard core n raw, perfect for letting your frustrations out…and sometimes u just need that…lol
Teddy P. sang the heck out of that! There is no better break up song ever. Can’t We Try is a heck of a begging-to-get-you-back song. Pretty much everything Teddy sang was pretty darned good.
I think Careless Whisper is my favorite Break-up song! “Guilty feet have got no rhythm.”
george michael was the sh!t a while back. seriously. one more try?!?!
that is my JAM!
I concur that the Hathaway version is better, that song is da shiznit
“sunshine of your love” was my favorite song the summer of 1988 (that’s when i ‘discovered’ it)…so trust and believe, i ain’t sleeping. i love the guitar solos in that song.
LOL I heart you musicheads, and I created an Obama playlist on my blog today. Check it out and add your own suggestions.
Yes! Bring the Obama playlist to the innaugral Igfest. Thanks!
Oh yes I will compile all the playlist ideas I get in my comment section and make an Obama celebration CD. It shall be AWESOME!
Wait… does that mean I can bring my tape or House Music….
“big booty snizzles, they think they are the ish….. let met me bang”
i was ova here practing my footworks ans errthang!
“aw sh*t, here we go, hititfromtheback, beat that h*e”
Upon reflection, those are some effed up lyrics, but my Wessside roots won’t let me sit still if I hear em
Luvvie, great minds think alike. I did an Obama Presidential Mix on my blog Wednesday…check it out.
Will check you out, Shelia
good job, Luvvie! i have most of these songs on my playlist. on wednesday i was randomly listening to Kirk’s “It’s Over Now” and thought to myself, “self you gotta add to this to the President Obama playlist”
One of my favorites is “Been Such a Long Time” by New Birth. Hard question!!
Going to play that song as loud as possible cuz no ones in the office today but me…
Broke up song – Love TKO, T.P.
Aint seen you in a long time song – Get Here
In Love Song – Loves Holiday, EWF
Swami–looks like another love TKO. I need to go pull out some cassettes ’cause these are definately old school. “
Yeah, certainly my preference(s) nowdays.
yeah you don’t get no better than Love T.K.O.
that song just speaks to your soul. in Ebonics.
I dare say that you can.
It’s called “Your My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration.”
When was the last time someone used “delectable” in a song?
AWWW Dayum PJ just 1? I mean I have different love songs for different moods.. I love Etta’s At last… but I also like Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, All the man by Whitney Houston, LOve and need and want by Patti, Love makes things Happen, Pebbles and BAbyface, This time by Shanice and Kwame? Celine Dion Because you loved me, Mr Big Be with you, Cyndi Lauper Time after time, Guns and Roses Dont Cr, Meatloaf anything for love…and I havent eve touched the 60s and 70s ATlantis-Isley Brothers, Gently-Ready for the world……I mean
Shay-d-lady, when I hear “At Last” by Etta James…now that song — if you ain’t in love, it makes you want to be in love.
At last was my wedding song…..
Shay-d-lady, cool. I would have been crying on my husband’s shoulders.
mine too… except I never got married
mine too… except I never got married
you never know what the future holds!
great minds…. it was our first dance
if you ain’t in love, it makes you want to be in love.
so true! i mean i was born on st. pattys day so i feel like my heart SHOULD be wrapped up in clovers. sigh…perhaps we should organize speed dating in DC during the innaugral fesitivites. I mean, when will so many ninjas be in same place at the same time? LOL, one of those ideas where you immediately shake your head and go “nah”.
“perhaps we should organize speed dating in DC during the innaugral fesitivites. I mean, when will so many ninjas be in same place at the same time?”
Overit, now you know somebody might set that up…lol
lmao, the idea both amuses and worries me. there is not enough pre-screening in the world to avoid the obvious horrors that can arise.
“Love Makes Things Happen” =exquisite!
so what you’re saying is that you can’t just name one?
LOL yes, and I said it over and over again by the number of songs I named AFTER this one.. I am a music Junkie… I would probably have to break up with someone that was able to name just 1…..LOL jk..i think
I bet it is hard as hell for everyone to just list one song.
i looooove “Iris”!!! good one, Shay-d
My ‘favoritest’ love song in the wide wide wide world is “Nothing Has Ever Felt This Way” by Rachell Ferrell feat. Will Downing , this song makes me cry 77.2% of the times I listen to it….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR7VAZZElmM , if you don’t love or at least appreciate this song then you have no soul or the sliver of soul you have flucking sucks….
“, if you don’t love or at least appreciate this song then you have no soul or the sliver of soul you have flucking sucks….”
Or, Voldemort sucked ur soul out, like he sucked out the unicorn blood.
I feel a special connection to VSbers who name drop HP characters.
Also, if you were a character from HP you would be Luna Lovegood which yo mythical creature seeing arse. Luna Luvvie lmao.
Overit, you r officially my eBFF. This is non-negotiable.
Thanks.
Overit, you r officially my eBFF. This is non-negotiable.
Thanks.
*e-hug! sprinkling some floo powder your way*
*snatches the floo powder*
*yells “Diagon Alley!!!”*
*giggles and skips to Zonko’s*
Beez, this whole comment made my morn.
Harry Potter geeks unite!!!
*Expelliarmus!*
lol, Harry Potter geeks. . . makes me think of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FnpudxZChs
omgosh I love you guys. Lumos!
Beez, this comment made my morning too! lmao, i heart you.
Um…wow. really sucking the blood of the unicorn
Aww, thanks!!
*blushes and squeels over new e-friends*
I feel all warm and fuzzy now. No homo.
Oh I loved this song. Thanks!
oh yeah that song is the BOMB..”waiting” LIVE tho is more like ecstasy…like your unicorns being hypnotized and hallucinating.
or maybe this is more like a unicorn stalking song..
ok “Nothing Has..” is probably a better “love song”..
i do love “waiting” though, i just love “Nothing Has…” because the two pure fantastical magical voices come together for a sincere, vulnerable love song…. le sigh….
yo Lise “Nothing Has Ever Felt This Way” by Rachell Ferrell feat. Will Downing”
yep that’s a fresh tune. i’ll tell ya though…
Rachell Ferrell got a big azzed mouth. better for the singing i’m sure. i walked in her mouth backstage at one of her concerts and couldnt find my way out. i was upstairs and they were getting ready to do some renovations so she unlocked her lower jaw and i went to the basement. why? i could hear the crowd but couldn’t follow the sound to get out. i’m telling u if i hadn’t run into Zoe Saldana… nice breath though. (Zoes’) when we came out Will Downing was standing at the entrance like: what’s up with u 2.
Khan, you’re a hot sizzling mess for this ENTIRE comment!!
lmao i’d have to say Khan was a SHAM–sizzling hot a$$ mess!!
Two words “I’m Special.” I saw Rachelle perform this live on Video LP. Between her piano skills and that ridunkulous range, I was sold.
That joint is so true, though! OMG.
I cannot watch her sing. It upsets my life.
oh and overjoyed and ribbon in the sky by Stevie Wonder
I am going to be ridiculed for this, but I can take the heat.
Listening to ribbon in the sky makes me wanna rip off my own ears and donate them joints to charity.
I hate that song.
I am going to be ridiculed for this, but I can take the heat.
Listening to ribbon in the sky makes me wanna rip off my own ears and donate them joints to charity.
I hate that song
to the corner for the night, van gogh!
It’s a Stevie Wonder song and as much as I’ve Stanned for Mr. Wonderful since ummmm…1973 (according to Mother n’ Daddy), it’s stereotypical. Stevie Wonder has 100 songs (at least) that are better.
So, I feel you, Overit.
I prefer Intro’s version of Ribbon in the Sky, excellent remake, bc the original makes me semi-nauseous…
yes, you shall be ridiculed thusly. and um…
y’all are insane if you think Intro’s version is better. and i’m not even a huge Stevie Stan.
however, for those in DC…i’ll let you all know when it is, but be on the look out for the DJ Spinna & Bobbito Wonder-full party that we do at Liv. It’s Stevie music ALL NIGHT LONG and I promise you it may be one of the best parties you’ll ever go to.
cross my heart.
I’m totally there…until Ribbon in the sky comes on.
I’ll be there, for sure. That sounds…well, WONDERFUL!
i’ll be there too, and will serenade 8th when ribbon in the sky comes on lol.
Don’t play with me.
I hate that song
but
“Rocket Love” is the joint
And hands down all time best baby making music masterpiece is
Marvin’s
“I Want You”
If it’s playin’
you gone do the
whole damned thang.
My favorite Stevie song is “All in love is fair”
My favorite Stevie song is “All in love is fair”
oooh isnt that the joint from School Daze?? I Love that joint!!!!
My favorite is Master Blaster Jammin, with That Girl and Part Time Lover coming in right behind it.
my fave stevie joints (in addition to the ones already listed) are Master Blaster, Signed sealed delivered, My Cherie Amore, If you really love me, For once in my life, Do I do, Sir Duke and these three words.
“That Girl” is one of my theme songs. It’s what I play when I’m getting ready to go out, because it ups my Sassy-ness by 84%. I love a song that sounds like it was written to/for/about me.
I can’t even name a favorite Stevie Wonder song. I have to name albums when it comes to him. My favorite Stevie Wonder album is “Fulfillingness First Finale”, w/”Talking Book” a very close second.
“That Girl” was the inspiration for Joe’s entire catalog.
my fave so far PBG is Hotter than July… I stan 4 Stevie… and still need some Stevie edumacation
My Daddy used to play “Hotter Than July” all the time when I was little. I remember “Lately” made me break down in tears one day. I was all of 7.
“Overjoyed” – Man… This song right here… Stevie was plotting “Over time, I’ve been building my castle of love…” You know how long it takes to build a castle. That’s what you call commitment and dedication. Let this be an example.
And he did all this work before this chick even knew he was trying to get at her. So maybe he was a little stalkerish. But it’s a castle and you don’t do all that work to just skeet on the sheets when no one is home. That’s some forever type schitt.
And he did all this work before this chick even knew he was trying to get at her. So maybe he was a little stalkerish. But it’s a castle and you don’t do all that work to just skeet on the sheets when no one is home. That’s some forever type schitt.
LMAO yes it is… yes it is BUT I love that song…his version and the mary j one from the Michael Jordan commercials…
“….I love that song…his version and the mary j one from the Michael Jordan commercials…”
Yep, I’d be glued to the screen everytime it came on.
the altruist in me has Love’s in Need of Love Today tattooed on her chest.
sensuality by the Isley Brothers is by far one of the best ever….
here is a link to sensuality.. this joint..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfdJBYoKz0k and
Kissing you by faith and Can I touch you by 112 were on heavy rotation the night I blossomed into woman hood.. LOL
Got DAM@N …this..rhat here…
i could see somebody STAYIN they @zz pregnant on this song. Yeah i have to agree this is the best IB song ever made. the lyrics. wow.
good call Shay’d
Isley Bros. another dynasty in the love song category.
My all time love song would definitely have to be “A Song for You” by Donny Hathaway. It just takes me to another place.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmjULeODgqc
“A Song for You” makes my eyes wanna leak (I’m a thug. We don’t weep). I love it.
I too weep internally when I hear this song, it makes my soul weep, at times to the point the tears actually leak out of my eyes.
Pouring some Tanqueray out for DH…
thats one of my favorites tooo… DANG I dont have one I Have literally hundreds that at any given moment could be the absolute bestest in the world
….that at any given moment could be the absolute bestest in the world.
so true, i love most songs mentioned on here, but it really depends on the mood. any one of them could be my fav at one point.
oh yeah, you’re my e-twinny twin twin alright.
I used to love the song but now it gets on my nerves bc my mama wore it out… *dodging tomatoes and stones…*
My favorite Donny Hathaway song is “Love, Love, Love”. It’s a mid-tempo beat, but its still so romantic. Those lyrics…*sigh*.
Donny anything kills it, but in “A Song For You” lies one of the deepest most profound declarations of love that ever heard.
“I love you in a place where there’s no space or time.”
Loving someone on that level….I just can’t explain it, but I love that song, and long to give and recieve that level of love from a woman one day.
“I love you in a place where there’s no space or time.”
those are the words that speak to my soul and make it weep
i know i said that i’d dead anybody who didn’t love “straight from the heart” but folks that know me understand my love for donny. like i’m pained by his suicide…that happened months before i was even born. that brotha had a voice from heaven. he never made a single bad song…not one.
brotha just gets spiritual.
brotha just gets spiritual.
best kind of love–spiritually infiltrating love.
speaking of spiritual…i love Come Ye Disconsolate by Donny & Roberta. That’s beautiful. My appreciation for Donny runs deep as well.
oh and Endless Love-lionel and Diana
Your song-Elton John
Nothing compares to U -sinead oconnor
Eric Clapton Wonderful Tongiht
No Doubt-Dont Speak
LL Cool- I need Love
Roberta Flack The first time ever I saw your face
Boys II Men Bended Knee, Ill make love to you, Trying Times, PLease dont go,
I LOVE “your song’
“oh and Endless Love-lionel and Diana
”
oh yeah..this is one of the best songs ever made.
I never loved a man-Aretha Franklin
You done took it back to Aretha…..
now you know you gotta put some BIG RE RE on the list
Dr. feelgood is another one Aint no Way and of course Natural Woman
Re-Re the Body is indeed a love crooner. Gotta love them old heads.
lol I swear I been trying to ignore this comment all day.
Re-Re the body, though?
*dead*
Re-Re the Body
dayum C+D…lol
Ah not Re-Re Shay-d-lady. Yeah she broke it down on that song…”I ain’t NEVER loved a man, the way that I love you.”
Y’all have inspired me to make me a new slow jam CD.
The Retha jams were definitely classic. I love her subtle hints at stalker-ry in this gem:
“I’m gonna knock on yo’ do’ (yo’ door)
Tap on yo’ window pane (tap on yo’ windooow pane)…
’til you come back to me, that’s what I’m gonna do…”
The thing is this type of behavior has the exact opposite effect.
Sheet, Boys II can be dangerous. We def need to have categories:
Luvvie Dovey music
Thug thizzle my mind is telling me no
Eff you couch let’s do it right here
Music that makes you feel you have A-new-lise on life
All I’m saying is, we need categories, like Shay-d said, different moods call for different tunes. Khia and Celine Dion’s Because You Loved Me cannot be on the same cd, call me type A, that’s how it be for me.
Yeah categories are needed but um, Khia?!?! Really?!?! I was with you ’til right then. Unless there’s more than one and I’m getting them confused *hoping*? I would have to disinfect any list she was on. That chick just saddens me…
LMAO @ Southern Girl, h-e double hockey sticks NO khia is not on my list. and even IF she were to be, she def would be off after her outrageous Respe me performance on VH1, what WAS that?
I was just making the point that there need to be different categories, clearly i drew too much of an extreme lol.
*huge sigh of relief*
Luvvie Dovey music
Thug thizzle my mind is telling me no
Eff you couch let’s do it right here
Music that makes you feel you have A-new-lise on life
e-twin, your category names are priceless!!! good job lol
especially the last category…
hehe
I gotta flip it on hip-hip… Biggie .. I’m fukkin ya tonite.
That song gets me in trouble.
me too 8th, me too
all songs get u in trouble Hedo what are u talking about…
and ayyyf wonder u just wanna get in trouble.
Eathan i don’t know what ur doing but dont stop.
“I gotta flip it on hip-hip… Biggie .. I’m fukkin ya tonite.”
a.k.a. hood heffner
Hush.
Ditto, 8th Wondra. Brings out that “Other Me”. Teeeheee!!!
first let me start by saying Luffa V is in a class all by himself and you could jus create a list alone of Luffa songs and 8 out of 10 times an adult owes his life to Luffa-shoot I’m pretty sure the reason there will be pitter patter of feet in the White house come Jan 20th is cause of Luffa. Ok well having said that my (i will cut u where u stand with razor blades and watch u bleed to death cause u must be the antichrist) all time love song “Love won’t let me wait” Luffa
IH, we could hang. Uncle Luffa is in a league of his own, and when he said “Goodbye”, that time it was for long. I cried. Yes, Luvvie cried.
luvvie unless you produce a cornucopia of people, you are not a thug, not a Nore “Superthug” (what what), u r not even kinda a thug, you do not have thug essence, nor thug sprinkles… if nothing else you are a sensitive psuedo-thug that needs hugs. but i still luv you like a play cousin fo sho!
A-rusty-lise on Life, hateration is not ur color. I’m a thug who just happens to be slightly sappy and have a sensitive caring nature. :-p
I can rock any color long as my shoes are fly, but you are a thug-poster, imitation thug, diet thug (1 calorie is not enough), sachharin thug, Splenda thug, thug deficient (Ol’ Need a
FlintstoneThugstone Vitamin Lookin’ Gal), no offense, lollmao!!!! you had me at “diet thug”
Look here “expired-lise”. My thug aint no diet thug. Its fatter than Re-Re Franklin’s tig ol’ biddies (which haunt my hopes and dreams and no unicorn could protect anyone from THOSE thangs). RESPECK IT!!
Its fatter than Re-Re Franklin’s tig ol’ biddies
i wonder is this even possible?? i can’t be sure.
this thread made me cackle
you shole right about Luffa..one of my alltime favorites is So Amazing….and one of my favorite get it joints is
Creep by Luffa.. sing it for me four times. creep, creep, creep, Creep…
SHAY D…Creep is my joint….
when I was a college DJ I opened and closed my show always with Luffa, the opening song “I who have nothing” and I would close the slow jam set 3 hours later with Creep. It was my secret dedication to the man in my life at the time. But Creep to this day just does it for me
wait, hol’ up! you were a college dj? you need to post some pics of you spinnin’ over the turntable, PRONTO.
yeah, IH, i love you like a Spanish tutor and all but… you need more ppl!! STAT!!
ye of little faith in believing that a sister is telling the truth. I will scan the evidence into my computer in the next few days and post it on facebook and tag you so you can see.
doubting toms
name’s Gem. thanks.
I know your name… Doubting Gem
lol! I’m mad you typed this out—>sing it for me four times. creep, creep, creep, Creep…
lol! I’m mad you typed this out—>sing it for me four times. creep, creep, creep, Creep…
you know thats the part girl, stop playin…..
She creeps!
lol. i know shay d…
how on earth did i leave Luther out…i’m ashamed. i used to sing my heart out to “love won’t let me wait” and “a house is not a home” in my dad’s game room when i was little. i wore those records (yes, records) out… i just want to know what the heck i knew about love at that age. you would’ve sworn somebody broke my heart in grade school. ha!
just want to know what the heck i knew about love at that age. you would’ve sworn my heart somebody broke my heart in grade school. ha!
girl shyt.. you knew that Lutha meant what he was feeling.. I love songs that as my gay friend describes
“make you wanna turn the radio up and just sang loud”
Am I the only one who’d sing “All Cried Out” (lisa lisa and cult jam) in the mirror with a sad face?
I was a child when that song came out. But I took it quite seriously. lol.
V.E.G – that song “I’m All Cried Out over you…” had some memories…back when I thought I was in love but didn’t know what love was.
It’s in my car right now! I love that song. Let’s throw in the begging I wonder if I take you home, or lovey dovey Head to Toe, too.
am i the only one who realized much after the fact that Lisa Lisa in fact, couldn’t sing for sh*t?
i was watching lisa lisa vides one day on vh1 Soul and i was like, man she sounds like an ass with nails.
i choose to look past this…stop bringing up old sh*t P! lol.
“am i the only one who realized much after the fact that Lisa Lisa in fact, couldn’t sing for sh*t?”
I feel like I always knew, I just didn’t want to acknowledge it.
VEG seriously.. I started to add that when I was writing that comment but since its not really a love song I left it out…I LOVE all Cried out..the Lisa Lisa and bow legged lou version….
*miss p tries to gather her afro puff to the side*
not reaching…
*miss p tries to gather her afro puff to the side*
not reaching…
theres a secret to it.. mine is finally big enough for the holder but before .. .. LOL it involves bobby pins and a comb..it looks like a pony tail..but it really isnt…..
I used to sing “Superwoman” by karen White in the mirror with a sad face and a side ponytail. I do not know why I had to have the side ponytail, but I rocked it out in the bathroom. Of course I always ran the risk of one or more of my four brothers and their corny arse friends listening outside the bathroom. I did not care lol.
The side ponytail was my hair style in 7th grade. This is before I graduated to the Pebbles haircut.
Maybe I will rock a side pony tail tomorrow…
Maybe I will rock a side pony tail tomorrow…
I have been sporting this all week… LMAO thats how you know I think I am cute… I almost cut some bangs..
please don’t. lol. unless it’s tastefully gathered at the nape of your neck and hanging over your shoulder in a ladylike fashion. no glitter or gold stars for something hanging of the top of the side of your head like a redux of ‘ol girl in napoleon dynamite. deb?
unless it’s tastefully gathered at the nape of your neck and hanging over your shoulder in a ladylike fashion. no glitter or gold stars for something hanging of the top of the side of your head like a redux of ‘ol girl in napoleon dynamite. deb?
LMAO mine is a huge afro puff …..tastefully pulled to the side.. with reddish gold highlights……I know the picture that comes to mind..but that aint what it looks like.. LMAO
V, u rock a side ponytail and our friendship is over. You hear me?? Over!!! You aint gon bring down my property value by rocking a side ponytail. I got a reputation to uphold.
Lol mine was (and still is) “Come Back To Me” by Janet Jackson. I used to be a tortured soul, looking out of my window, waiting for my lost love to return…wondering if I’d have to live my life all alone.
I was all of 6.
me my sisters and these three dudes that lived 2 houses down use to do full concerts outside
they would do the neutrons.. my heart beats for you or Perfect Gentleman Oh la la/the boyz lucky charm, Dial my heart
and we woud be The good girls and do itching in my heart, or salt n pepa
“Lol mine was (and still is) “Come Back To Me” by Janet Jackson. I used to be a tortured soul, looking out of my window, waiting for my lost love to return…wondering if I’d have to live my life all alone.
I was all of 6.”
Why are we right ——->here<——-?
Except that I was 9. LMAO
“Why are we right ——->here<——-?”
You act surprised, BBMo.
You know you and Miss t-lee are my e-twins. Maybe we should just crank dat triplet.
you know… triplets run in my family. let’s continue the tradish.
my aunt and 2 of my uncles are trips… born right after a set of twins.
can you say my a$$ is in trouble when i finally get knocked up?
multiple-multiple births. that’s just crazy. twins and then triplets?? i thought 2 sets of twins was rough.
good luck with pregnancy BBMo lol
“can you say my a$$ is in trouble when i finally get knocked up?”
This makes me sad
for your uterus.Lol mine was (and still is) “Come Back To Me” by Janet Jackson. I used to be a tortured soul, looking out of my window, waiting for my lost love to return…wondering if I’d have to live my life all alone.
I was all of 6.
LMAO, who did we think we were?!
“Am I the only one who’d sing “All Cried Out” (lisa lisa and cult jam) in the mirror with a sad face?”
No, you’re not. Did you use a hairbrush for a mic?
This song is actually the one and only song I’ve done on karoke (sp?).
No seriously. Somebody spellcheck that for me. Please and thank you.
You’re spelling is fine, PBG.
“… My tears will burn the pillow… Set this place of fire ’cause I’m tired of your lies…” – Lisa Lisa might have inspire Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes to set Andre’s tub on fire…
Music is so inspirational.
““… My tears will burn the pillow… ”
It used to worry me that her tears were that acidic and shyt.
” i just want to know what the heck i knew about love at that age. you would’ve sworn somebody broke my heart in grade school. ha!”
Tell me about it! Shai – If I ever fall in love was my JOINT when it came out . . . I had the tape in my walkman, and I was all of 10 years old when that song came out. . . according to wikipedia.
That is a hard question, Pmoney! But if I had to answer that the first song that comes to mind is: “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway.
If somebody doesn’t like early Stevie Wonder (and let me define that for the masses- PRE- Woman in Red) I might have to cut them.
Also, “You Don’t Know What Love is” by Rachelle Ferrell, “Happier than the Morning Sun” and “Seems so Long” and “Make Sure You’re Sure” all by Stevie… “Be One” by Phyllis Hyman, and Roberta Flack “The First Time Ever I Saw your Face” That’s all i have for now…
“The First Time Ever I Saw your Face” – This is when you know your nose is open. “I thought the sun rose in your eyes,” “I felt the earth movein my hand,”for realz Roberta? Yeah, she was gone.
I have a few:
In Love
-A Song for You, Donny Hathaway
-Turn Your Lights Down Low, Bob Marley (the original, i.e. w/o Ms. Hill)
-Adore, Prince.
-So Amazing, Luther Vandross

-Closer I Get to You, Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway
Lost Love
-I’d Rather Go Blind, Etta James
-Nothing Takes the Place of You, Touissant McCall
-Congratulations, Vesta
-Sad to Know You’re Leaving, Gregory Isaacs
-Love T.K.O., Teddy Pendergrass
-It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over, Lenny Kravitz
-Living All Alone, Phyllis Hyman
Crazy Love
-Loves Changes, Mother’s Finest
-Just One of Those Days (Dry Cry), Sizzla
-X-Factor, Lauryn Hill
Wanna Make Love
-Turn Off the Lights, Teddy Pendergrass
-Between the Sheets, Isley Brothers
-Turn your Lights Down Low, Bob Marley (again…the ORIGINAL)
-Beautiful Ones, Prince
-Natural Woman, Aretha Franklin
-Back Up Train, Al Green (not sure why…this song turns me on)
It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over, Lenny Kravitz

It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over, Lenny Kravitz
Good Lord, I love that song.
GOOD job, V!!!!! Hot ish. I dig the categories too.
I MAY claim that I know you sometimes. Maybe. If I was forced. On a Wednesday
VEG…girl I LOVE your list
Adore and Bueatiful ones by PRINCE!!!!
also Turn your lights down low and Is this Love are my Bob Marley joints
Turn Your Lights Down Low…sigh, I agree with its list placement as well.
I promise that if I ever jump that broom I will walk down the aisle to “Turn Your Lights Down Low” AND put it on repeat in the honeymoon suite.
“Turn Your Lights Down Low” is just a BOMB ass song. My kids shall get conceived to that.
Imma need you to get your own conception song.
Thanks.
Let’s Get it On, Marvin Gaye should be added to “wanna make love’ list
and Glady Knight’s “Neither One of Us” should be on my “Lost Love” list.
i’m tired of y’all thinking of songs that should’ve been on my list. i love, love, love “neither one of us”. that makes me a little verklempt just thinking about it…ok, i must go to imeem.com now and listen to it.
Lost Love~
“And so it goes” Billy Joel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eELB6NxrZ7A
So I would choose to be with you
That’s if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you’re the only one who knows
OH IH I love that joint!!!!!
Adore by Prince is definitely the love song of every year. I would add “Insatiable” to that list.
“Congratulations” by Vesta would have to go on the Love Stalker list! Showing up at your former lovers wedding screaming Congratulations I thought it would have been me, while the ceremony is going on, is more than love lost.
Cease your idle chatter!
That’s how you do it. Vesta was a pioneer. When a nigaraguan sleeps with you on the regular and then leaves to go to his wedding. You put him on blast then walk out and leave him to explain.
Even though in the video she only daydreamed about doing it and went home and cried.
Yeah. I am not one to cause scenes but I might be inclined to pop up at my ‘man’s’ wedding and have a say. Then sashay out.
V.E.G.–great list, great break down into categories.
Adore is my favorite Prince song. and just one of my favorite songs period. in fact, i’m feeling inspired to perform this song in the middle of my lab. right now. *cuing up music*
Ditto
I also have my strictly 2520 cd, Edwin McCain’s (I’ll forgive him that unfortunate association) “I’ll Be” is a fav.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0hvOdYVTG0
I’m really big on lyrics, which is why I do not see a long future for many current “artists” and I.
2520′s make great love songs too. I love this joint too…I got a lot of them on my first post I think….
I left out Eternal Flame by the Bangles
I used to play the hell out of “Eternal Flame”. lolol.
who you telling? i used to ice skate backwards to that sh*t with a jheri curl and a twinkle of summer love heartbreak in my eyes. “do you feel my heart beating? do you understand?” …hee, hee
who you telling? i used to ice skate backwards to that sh*t with a jheri curl and a twinkle of summer love heartbreak in my eyes. “do you feel my heart beating? do you understand?” …hee, hee
me too..but I had a Hawiian Silky.. not just a regular Jerri joint.. LMAO and looking back at those pictures taught me never to fall prey to “trendy” again
to be exact, Miss Patterson had a Quadra Curl, you only had to use activator once a week or twice tops. uh yeah, and i’m convinced my mother did not love me from age 10-13. i had braces too, yeah…i was one awkward puppy.
but the hawiian joint had a “natural” curl pattern that made peoplel think I was half indian.. LMAO
why in schoolpeople tried to say,”Naw this ain’t no curl, it’s a ‘wave Nouveau’”…? womp
\why in schoolpeople tried to say,”Naw this ain’t no curl, it’s a ‘wave Nouveau’”…? womp
cause a jerri curl was on those little skinny rods but a wave nouveau was achieved using the 4 bar wave joints…it didnt have a curl but a WAVE.. BIG difference… LMAO and then they use to have it faded into a V shap in the back..with three lines on each side..add an open face gold tooth and you was slick the shyt in my highschool….
even though i’m 6 feet under at all the jheri curl references…eternal flame was the joint.
I am so with you… died, resurrected and died again by the end of this thread…
the 80′s were a hair travesty
“2520’s make great love songs too. I love this joint too…I got a lot of them on my first post I think….”
What about (2520 Love/Breakup Songs) . . . .

“I Want Love” by Elton John is a good one. hey, can we have a karaoke night in d.c. during inauguration week. i say “yes we can”… Pmoney hop to it and find us a spot.
LMAO. Do you know I was thinking that as I was thinking of songs? That would be hilarious. Actually, I think this must happen.
i agree, that would be awesome. i’m already thinking of the kodak moments we’re going to capture…
lmao, can I be in charge of forming the groups? Certain ppl need to be a solo act, such as Yung$$$ and Luvvie. Not sure what they will sing but I’m laughing already.
lmao, can I be in charge of forming the groups? Certain ppl need to be a solo act, such as Yung$$$ and Luvvie. Not sure what they will sing but I’m laughing already.
as Long as I get to do my Bobby Brown mix complete with pelvic roll and weak a$$ rap interludes.. LMAO Bobby was the first and best at throwing a wack a$$ rap into the middle of an r&b song and it still being bumpin…
cause when Im on the mike the call me freddie
cause Im ready to really get paid
and anybody steps in the way they get slayed
my name is Bobby, thats what they call me……
yeah shay i can def see you as a solo act. fine, you can be bobby brown, only if i can come out of nowhere and do my fav BB wack arse rap:
The truth about Roni, she’s a sweet ol’ girl
About the sweetest little girl in the whole wide world
She’ll make the toughest homeboy fall deep in love
Said once you had a Roni you will never give her up
She’s a special kind of girl that makes her daddy feel proud
You know the kinda girl that stands out in crowds
Found a tenderoni and the Roni is so right
I think I’m gonna love her for the rest of my life…..
i know yall are singing along, don’t front.
i wanted to be that girl in the tenderoni video. if i recall correctly it was a concert video. didn’t she do some coy non-rhythm havin’ dance for him or something? i’m too tired to go on youtube right now. but that was back when i had a crush on bobby (gasp!)
but that was back when i had a crush on bobby (gasp!)
dont be shame.. bobby had it going on…even with the gumby, the biking short and suspenders he was sportin in the every little step video
Overit, I do a MEAN karaoke. And yes, I work best alone. I MAY draft some back up singers to flank me though. Anyone down?
And not you VEG. You gon try to upstage me by dressing in your Diana Ross costume and headdress wit sequins. I just wont have it.
Speaking of 2520s…. “More Than Words” – I will sing this aloud in the grocery store (That lite rock station will have the pinktoes looking at you crazy).

you can lick it and you can stick but you aint did dayum thing until you
stand up in it? (those might not be the exact words) LMAO
I know this song shay-d. I can’t think who sings it though.
Marvin Sease maybe?
Marvin Sease, the poet laureate of “liquor-house music”, “Candy Licker” is a liquor house gem.
My Dad used to jam Marvin Sease in car when we were coming up.
Talk about awkward.
Hi Five!
She’s playin hard
She’s playin hard to get
She’s playin
She…but she likes me
She liiiiiiikes meeeeee
I miss the 90s:(
Trin-Trin speaking of the song Pretty Brown Eyes, I loved Ebony Eyes by Rick James & Smokey Robinson.
man, i remember the first time i heard freakin’ Ebony Eyes. and i HATE smokey robinson, but man do i love that song…
“…and i bet you didn’t knoooooow thaaaaaaaat, ebony eyes…”
Rick with the staccato ad libs. Punctuation after every word singing azz.
But, “I loooooooooooove youuuuuuuuuuuu”, it’s still the business.
““…and i bet you didn’t knoooooow thaaaaaaaat, ebony eyes…”
Singing right along with you Panama. That became my theme song.
i love minnie..people have some great songs..you can def. tell the grown folks on here.
“you can def. tell the grown folks on here.”
Yeah…folks showing their age.
or great parents who exposed their kids to good music. You can tell alot about a person by their musical taste, lack thereof and their childhood..
im finding some people may have been musically abused as kids LOL. j/k but not really.
this is a good point. i know my parents raised me right by just having the good music laying around for me to dig through. though, my parents lose points for blasting both Rod Stewart and Kenny G on long road trips.
i had to dig for the good music myself.
i know my parents raised me right by just having the good music laying around for me to dig through.
same here. even before i hit elementary school, my dad let me play around in his music pile. i was exposed to everything from Bach to Barry White. i LOVED opera, especially–i could really perform to some opera (i was extremely dramatic as a child). by the time i was 5 i knew how to work his stereo (he had a tower that played records, tapes, and cds). i loved going up to his study room and rockin out. ahh the good ol days
Comeback I think I came out the womb loving music. I remember my dad playing 8 tracks of Al Green, etc.
lol…im 22…i just tend to think most of the music being dropped lately sucks like hell, so i been digging up all the old school sh!t and songs i remember from my childhood…
Ur choice of “Waiting in Vain” didnt even cross my mind. Maybe the fact that ALL reggae artists do a cover version of this song has killed it for me.
I only know of Maxi Priest’s version. What other reggae artists have covered this? In a recording?
I will hunt the person down…
LOL no I’m talm bout all the Wild Hare performers.
lol. They don’t count!
I dunno why I was originally thinking of “Is My Living In Vain”…
if you have to ask, it probably is.
crush- zhane
luv this song!
welcome and sh*t (i think)
having a hard time keeping track?
thanks
I’m making this list into a CD right now.
A coupla Mikki Howard joints would make my list, too
Love Under New Management and Baby Be Mine
Bob Marley’s Waiting in Vain, definitely, would be on my “Unrequited Love” list.
ohhh veg I love “love under new management”
and break up song i forgot was
Id rather be alone by Karyn White…
I’d rather be alone is in my top 150 songs. lol.
“Love Under New Management” is an oft requested hairbrush mic song of mine, you should be so lucky to see it just for the body language alone. I heart that dang on song like nobody’s business…
“The cloooooooosed sign on my door, I had to tear it down-ownnnnn, a new world of happiness….”
“Experience is a good teacherrr…”
It is a banger. Miki is one of those artists who should really be bigger than she is just based on mere talent.
I second this… member she was Billie Holiday in Malcolm X
“Baby Be Mine”
mikki howard …yes . this was a seriously tight cut. come share my love is prolly my second fav of hers.
Ain’t Nobody Like You – Mikki Howard. I racked my brains to figure out this. Love this song.
I have so many “that’s my songs” but here are my top 5:
Girl by The Time
Fire & Desire by Rick James & Teena Marie
Love & Happiness by Al Green
Do Me Baby by Prince
Three Times a Lady by The Commodores
etc.
girl how did I forget fire and desire and of course I forgot Do me baby….thats a classic
Shay-d-lady Rick & Teena tore that song up.
i remember some years ago that a radio station put Fire & Desire up against If This World Were Mine.
and let me say, i was flabbergasted that everybody thinks Fire&Desire is a better song than If this world were mine which is just ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE MOST WONDERFUL SONGS EFFIN’ EVER.
i don’t really care for Fire & Desire.
You don’t like Teena Marie right?
I thought you mentioned that before.
“and let me say, i was flabbergasted that everybody thinks Fire&Desire is a better song than If this world were mine which is just ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE MOST WONDERFUL SONGS EFFIN’ EVER.”
these people you speak of, they have no soul
If this world were mine which is just ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE MOST WONDERFUL SONGS EFFIN’ EVER.
true statement. but i do like Fire & Desire.
I forgot if this world were mine.. I love that joint
I would lay at your feet (moving head side to side with beat) all. that. I . own.. youve been so good to me….
AWWW yeah thats the jam right there.. I cant choose between that one and Fire though they are both classics…
Panama, “If This World Were Mine” is a great song too don’t get me wrong, but there’s no comparison…both are good in my book. “Fire & Desire” will always be in my top 10 list.
“Three Times a Lady by The Commodores
etc.”
Shelia you went back to the crates for this.
My favorite Commodores song
“Still”
that long pause at the end and then Lionel comes back and says still….***swooning***
Still”
that long pause at the end and then Lionel comes back and says still….***swooning***
Dayum IH we are musical twins almost..I love that song and that part for the same reason…his voice kind of breaks on the whispery still…
““Still”that long pause at the end and then Lionel comes back and says still….***swooning***
Intellectual–I can see him singing that song now…Lionel knew he could sang—not sing but sang…lol
yeah i still have a crush on LR.
Speaking of Lionel Richie…
“Just To Be Close To You” – “A man with no di-rec-tion. No pur-pose.” , “No one to love and no one to love me”…. “You made my jagged edges smooth”
“Just To Be Close To You” – “A man with no di-rec-tion. No pur-pose.” , “No one to love and no one to love me”…. “You made my jagged edges smooth”
AWWW Mayne..thats a joint too…
“No pur-pose.”
Whenever he sings this part I just start sniggling.
I can’t help it.
““Three Times a Lady by The Commodores
etc.” Shelia you went back to the crates for this.
Comeback Girl – It’s just something about old school R & B…I listen to it all of the time.
How could I forget about Prince?! Do Me Baby is one of those “gon get, get it, get it, get it” jams
lol Overit–Prince knows how to write some slow jams. I also like “International Lover”…but I’m a Prince fan so I could go on all night naming favorite slow jams by him.
“Prince knows how to write some slow jams.”
yeah he does, prince knows exactly what he’s doing lol.

Shouldn’t even be mentioned: “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”

George Michael in “Careless Whisper”
i stan for this song!
you know, i threw bobby caldwell into the post b/c one of my friends didnt actually know that he was white. lol. she found out in a most absurd manner when somebody in her family showed her the video. she almost died. lol.
I still don’t believe this urban legend.
Yeah…he’s white as white.
Song still jams though.
Speaking of Sinatra*… “The Way You Look Tonight”
*Fred Astaire, Billie Holiday, Michael Buble, Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart, Bing Crosby, etc., etc.
Fred Astaire, Billie Holiday, Michael Buble, Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart, Bing Crosby, etc., etc.
I like that song too.. and suprisingly I am a big fan of the Rod Stewart version…

OMG!!! I love this song. This is a live clip so she (sheryl) switched it up slightly but still amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbFI0HV4rSk
lmao @ “sexy time”…my mind just flashed to Borat slapping his two hands together and rubbing them fiercely, “Sexxxy tiiime!”
lol.that was sooooo not my intention. that would probably kill my sexy…
Poppin-Chris Brown (DON”T JUDGE ME!!! I know he’s barely able to legally get it but this damn song just does something to me *shame* But he is cute though…)
LMAO
Im feeling that “Take you down” joint myself..makes me do the a slow roll in my chair..
girl….i was gonna add that but thought i’d leave it at one for this list. lol.
“Lick” by Joi gives me pleasure and I ain’t guilty about it either!!!
I love this song!!!
Yes. Yes. Yes.
I”m all about “Techno Pimp”, “Munchies For Your Love” and “Missing You”
“Never Felt This Way- Brian McKnight”
This song gives me chills every time I hear it.
“Whenever Wherever Whatever” had moms looking at me crosseyed. Ah to be young and dumb…
“Secret” is also a favorite. Adam Levine all day.
you know, this might get ME purgatorized…
…but i pretty much HATE Brian Mcknight’s voice. i don’t like a single one of his songs with the POSSIBLE exception of “anytime”.
Uh oh.
i must now reconsider my e-lurve for you P. and this site.
have you even heard the song? or are you just not liking it on general BM hate?
yeah i have. hell, i own his albums b/c i thought if you liked good music you were supposed to. fact is, i don’t like his voice…and i dont’ really care for most of his music…he made it much easier when he forgot he was 40 and tried to make music for 12 year olds.
he made it much easier when he forgot he was 40 and tried to make music for 12 year olds.
true….but never felt this way was BEFORE that.
i am so disappointed in you today.
another great list. good job, SG.
Des’ree’s “Kissing You” is definitely one of my faves as well. it’s so beautiful and musically brilliant. every time i hear it now, after it being in that Romeo & Juliet flick, i feel like i should be in another space and time with a forbidden lover.
Des’ree’s “Kissing You” is definitely one of my faves as well. it’s so beautiful and musically brilliant. every time i hear it now, after it being in that Romeo & Juliet flick, i feel like i should be in another space and time with a forbidden lover.
this whole post today is putting me in a sentimental mood lol.
it’s actually putting me in a borderline bitter mood. i haven’t had strong emotions for a man in years. and i don’t see it happening any.time.soon.
LMAO by sentimental i meant bitter, “why me” and whiskey tango foxtrot. i feel you e-twin, this is some bullish.
hmph!
i was trying to put my woe is me feelings aside for the day and sh!t.
woe is me follows me everywhere me go.
LOL ok just checking e-twin. i thought our e-genetics had mutated and diverged for a second there. *wipes brow* phew.
no we’re still on the siamese tip.
woe.
The lyrics alone… “Watching stars without you, my soul cries.”
right! and when you add her hypnotic vocals, the rolling crescendos, the wailing strings. damn. that’s a deep song.
*sigh* yeah
Falling-Shai
LOVE Shai!!!
what about
you send me swinging by mint condition
whatever you want, lay your head on my pillow, and it never rains by toni tony tone
and Ask of you -Rafael Saddiq
“and Ask of you -Rafael Saddiq”
I co-sign this!
double co-sign
I can only borderline like this song because all I get is the terrible flashback of Tyra’s lack therof acting in “Higher Learning”, boo her ass..
“Tyra’s lack therof acting in “Higher Learning”, boo her ass..”
Hi-gher Lear-ning, Hi-gher Lear-ning… Tyra’s crappy acting aside, you’ve got to admit.. this was a good movie.
yeah, her acting was mediocre (still better than Beyonce’s in “Fighting Temptations”) but i still looooove that song.
I never even saw the end of Fighting Temptations.
Between ‘Yonce and Cuba…I couldn’t do it.
i actually don’t think i saw the entire thing either. what would be the point anyway?
I see we think alike…lol
*looking into t-lee’s mind and feeling an odd sense of familiarity*
yep i think so lol
Mint Condition could sing the A-B-C song and make me swoon. **sparkly eyes**
“U send me SWANG-ing” is on fire like hot chips.
Kudos.
Luther Vandross and Prince are the KINGS of LOVE SONGS.
“call my name”
call my name and I will adore you with diamonds and pearls, while I in my pink cashmere wait for you to do me baby, because nothing compares to you, you sexy M.F., together we are insatiable, Beautiful,Loved, and Blessed. Damn U!
No “Lady Cabdriver”??? That’s my jam!!
Hedo says:
…do me baby, because nothing compares to you, you sexy M.F., together we are insatiable, Beautiful,Loved, and Blessed. Damn U!”
watch ur mouth.
spank urself.
“watch ur mouth.
spank urself.”
Waiting for you GK
“call my name”
Another good one IH
I think that is my current all time favorite Prince jam with Damn U and insatiable running a close 2nd
insatiable is a good one…. a really good one
Insatiable!!! Along with I Hate You.
Two of my faves from Prince.
“… but I can’t love you. ‘Cause I. Hate. You”
You know what I’m talkin’ bout Deviant…lol
why did i automatically think of Switch’s “I call your name” when i saw “call your name”
that song is splendiferous.
on this, i will agree with you *still giving P the evil eye over brian mcknight remark above*
Splendiferous indeed, PeeJay.
I love I call your name… But Im a man now.. in such an ironically womanly voice… I still love it though…….
that song is splendiferous.
PJ, when i see you at the HH on wed, i will need to discuss your use of the words splendiferous and thoughting. lmao.
P i had all kinds of lil boy man-ish crushes when this sh*t was out.
Switch’s “I call your name”
…are you gon call me like you said you was?
aw man…
Man O’ War
This is the most impossiblest question I has ever been asked.
Sigh, okay. First off, there’s no way I can pick just one, because like some other folks, I am very type A when it comes to my music, and I have favorite songs for different emotions, lol.
But for love, I shall giveth you 8 jams:
Love Ballad- LTD & Jeffrey O
Giving You All of My Love- Carl Thomas
Ready or Not- After 7
Sweet Love- Anita Baker
Everything- Mary J. Blige
Somebody Loves You- Patti Labelle
In A Sentimental Mood- Duke Ellington
You’re The One I Love- Jesse Powell
Now if we were talking angry songs, sad songs, party songs, or lusty songs, there would be at least 8 “all time faves” of those too.
In A Sentimental Mood- Duke Ellington
this is one of dad’s FAVORITE songs….it reminds me of my childhood
In A Sentimental Mood- Duke Ellington
I also love the miles davis and coltrane version
“Giving You All of My Love- Carl Thomas”
Offa that 1st album. I loved this song as well as “Superstar”.
“In A Sentimental Mood” – Love Jones was good for something. That was the first time I heard the “Blinkablinkablink” song as a friend used to call it.
that’s a in-scre-swcring lil list their ayyyf.
very in scre scring.
nodding head squinting eyes…
Sweet Love- Anita Baker
Almost every song of Anita’s should be on the list of favs.
“Body & Soul” – The extended cut is always the business.
what about
Crave by- Marc Dorsey and
After all is said and done by Beyonce and Marc Dorsey from the best man soundtrack
Rene & Angela “You Don’t Have To Cry”..alone I’ll be right by your side you’ve found a new home.
Lalah Hathaway “I’m Coming Back” the outdoor version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn7SSdVVLr8
Luther Vandross “Never Too Much” ..a thousand kisses from you..
Fiest “Inside and Out”.
Donny Hathaway (I’ve loved Donny since birth. There’s tons of mainstream stuff he rocks out) but some of his best work is the little known stuff. I really think ” I Know Its You” is the most telling best love song from him of all time.
Frank Mccomb “When You Call My Name”..Sometimes I’m thinking he’s singing about God. I guess thats the best kinda love song there is..where the joint gets spirtual.
Tammy Terrell/Marvin Gaye-”Your All I Need To Get By”
See you done took me back.
I heart “You Don’t Have To Cry”.
Rene & Angela “You Don’t Have To Cry”..alone I’ll be right by your side you’ve found a new home.
I love this joint… and her version of Smile
Angela can flatfoot blow!!! yes I said flat foot.. I am from the south and proud of it dayumit!!!
Feist – “Inside and Out”
Isn’t that the BeeGees remake? Or does it just sample the BeeGees?
Great song either way.
you get a gold star. Yes they did it first. Pat your Mama Daddy nem on the back.
i like fiest’s version better.
“Rene & Angela “You Don’t Have To Cry”..alone I’ll be right by your side you’ve found a new home. ”
Comeback, that used to be my jam too. The thing is I was a young girl when I first heard a lot of these songs but they stayed with me into adulthood.
me too i was such a old and grown aZZ kid LOL…im prolly 75 in grown @zz lady thought.
A Womans Worth-Maxwell
CHocolate Legs-Eric Benet
Back at One-Brian McKnight
Greatest Sex-R.Kelly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6bRygG9o1k
I never heard that one before.. quincy is the king of that smooth mellow sound though.. thanks for the link
speaking of Quincy Jones I loved the secret garden…
and that Tamia joint that “im so into you”
and because you cant discuss q without getting to him…..
I am going to end with an ode to michael jacksons greatest love songs
Give in to me
Willyou be there
Rock wit you
the way you make me feel
liberian girl
I just cant stop loving you
The lady in my life
human nature…..
I LOVE HEAVENS GIRL!!!!!!!
“You Put A Move on My Heart” is my favorite.
Yes. I think that was her best song.
I love “you put a move on my heart”!!! Her last CD had a few cool songs too.
Tamia-Still is another good one. Sorry if I’m repeating.
“he still got love in his eyes..and i still got love in my soul…
*still bitter*
and Tamia Poetry as well….
I just realized I am off topic oh well its late and I have ADD.. you know how it goes.. two tears in a bucket so f!ck it…..
“etcetera”
I can’t lie, this was my jam!!! I still have TP2.com, this was his best overall album.
total – ‘kissing you’.
bob marley – ‘turn your lights down low’
marvin gaye – ‘my love is waiting’
letta mbulu & caiphus semenya – ‘ziph’ inkomo’ – a south african classic about old-school love
thandiswa mazwai & tshepo tsola- ‘ndi linde’ – a beautiful long-distance love song.
and finally…
jah rule ‘what would i be without my baby’ – i’m serious – he’s saying all the right things!! think about it…
a classic.
“and finally…
jah rule ‘what would i be without my baby’ – i’m serious – he’s saying all the right things!! think about it…
a classic.”
…cause every thug needs a laay-dayyyy, bay-bayyy!!!
I might have been able to give this a pass, if I didn’t immediately think of Ashanti caterwauling to the sun, moon, and stars on this track.
Now, that “I wanna be yo’ chick” was my ish.
that my ish too…”ill always be here when you need me… rule baby, cuz boy you down for me, and you ever have to worry, you know ill make it in a hurry…” i love that song! i just had a crazy flashback to high school…
off topic, nobody came back to say what the first post-election announcement day at work was like with barack obama officially confirmed as the POTUS-elect. Did everyone act as crazy as they threatened to?? ha ha ha ha!!
please share!
I didn’t act out too much. Most of my office was about Barack (although I think there may have been some undercover McCainites cause some folks just went silently along with the convo).
Lots of smiles, random hugs and dance moves though.
maxwell for sure can still get my panties wet, but i tend to move it around a bit. i have a special “quietstorm” playlist on my ipod just for those times and a very strange song has been getting a lot of play to put me in that lovey dovey mood.
“another love song” by justin timberlake.
i really don’t care for the kid, but i ain’t gonna lie, i’ve repeated that damn song more than 4 times in a row!
other notables that i rotate
a long walk- jill scott
emotional rollercoaster- vivian green
on & on/afro freestyle/ bag lady-erykah badu
speaking of JIll..He loves me is her best of all times…..
I’m hesitant but I must concur.
That and A Long Walk are my favorite two by Jill Scott.
welcome jana.
Am I the only person who isn’t real big on “slow jams” for the purposes of ahem…”gettin’ it in”?? I feel music…I feel it. It moves me, that’s why I’m always dancing, no matter who is watch or what’s going on when I hear a song I love.
I need a song that is going to set my pace and match my rhythm. Slow jams ain’t really it…ya feel me??
Don’t feel ya dawg, BUT I like a nice mix… I defintely can’t “do the do” to jazz though *shrug*, I did learn in college not to “do the late night do” on Saturday to the quiet storm, because when it switches over to the gospel it kinda kills the mood a tidbit, um, a smidgen….
Am I the only person who isn’t real big on “slow jams” for the purposes of ahem…”gettin’ it in”??
yes.
joking. i actually agree with you…i’ve never been able to really get down to music cuz i’ll be busy listening to the music…telling her to shush at the good parts…
you know what…lol.
Am I the only person who isn’t real big on “slow jams” for the purposes of ahem…”gettin’ it in”??
i prefer soca. or the gza
the gza? LOL!!!
A little “Liquid Swords”?
::snicker::
oh this is nice…i see the “bang it out” posse has found each other..

It’s a couple songs that automatically go on your Late Night’s CD.
As Jana.love said Maxwell and Vivian Green
112
“Meeting in my Bedroom”
Jill Scott will make you want to run around naked, her songs are so nasty I love it
“Meeting in my Bedroom” I have the chopped and screwed version….mmmm.
they chopped and screwed this?
will i like it? because meeting in my bedroom is that ish… along with if you…
i’m with you on that BBMo
If you like chopped and screwed music, you will like it. I mostly like my slow jams c&s. They have whole cd’s of the c&s slow jams…the F*ck Action series…
found a link for you, this is similar to the mix I have, not exact though…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cm_dH2wH2c
LOL@ BBMO–they will c&s anything!!
this link is such a gift Miss T-Lee…
thanks and sh*t
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
clearly they will… I took a listen. I’m not much of a chop and screwed kinda gal. But it was definitely worth the listen
thanks for sharing
there’s a meeting in my bedroom.
bedroooom.
bedroooom.
bedrooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom.
sheeiit.
Oooooooooooooooooooooook.
Clean up on Comment 41!
*cackles*
**Chortles**
**Snorts**
dead on my day off
“Jill Scott will make you want to run around naked, her songs are so nasty I love it”
Crown Royal…yo.
Crown Royal was that… ooooooooooo…. sheeeeeeeeit….
When I first heard it, I had that mess on repeat for 2 weeks. SOLID.
me too… I LOVE Crown Royal (i love anything Jill makes really) … but I seen Jill live when she did it every lady in the crowd stood up and sang along…
“best love song ever?” I can’t say best song ever because I don’t have enough sticktoit-ness to ride for one song like that, BUT great songs for “Clarence Carter-ing ”
:
1. Jill Scott-Crown Royol
2. Joe- Table for Two
3. Carl Thomas- about 90% of his first album
4. Prince- Darling Nikki (makes me want to dance on a pole for some reason)
My only stipulation on music: If he listens to West Coast music and LOVES IT…. he’s cut off.
That first Carl Thomas album may be one of the best R&B albums ever made. Consistent hits.
perhaps if he could sing.
but um, he cant.
First you say Michael Bivins “blows arse” and now this!!!! Is there no end to your treachery!?!
i said michael bivins blows ass as an exec. i love new edition and BBD as much as anybody. but the man’s executivity isn’t actually something to aspire to.
and its a well known fact that carl thomas in fact sounds like a**.
Are you kidding??? That Carl Thomas album is certified… i’ve gone through TWO of them.
LOL! Yeah…he must be just fooling around. Otherwise that comment would be utterly senseless.
I was riding with Carl until that last album…everything before it, I was with him.
Yeah, the last album took some getting used to, but even that joint has a few goodies.
I am still not feeling that last album… it’s not “my carl.”
That’s what I said…lol
hey, i ain’t saying he didn’t have hits, i’m saying he can’t sing. and i HATED ‘summer rain’ by the way.
plus, that ninja’s too emotional for me.
“Are you kidding??? That Carl Thomas album is certified… i’ve gone through TWO of them.”
I have too Nicki.
Not only is the music wacktastic, they aren’t very good coasters either.
Hey PBG.. did you mean the west coast JUNK???!!!
4. Prince- Darling Nikki (makes me want to dance on a pole for some reason)
This song is so naughty! We might have to fight for that pole!
“We might have to fight for that pole!”
LMAO.
We might have to fight for that pole!”
***tempted, but choosing to leave this comment alone***
Dont make me pull out my whip.
My only stipulation on music: If he listens to West Coast music and LOVES IT…. he’s cut off.
Awww…. Gem. I sowwy! I just can’t get with it.
Now I will say, I played the HELL out of that first Game cd that came out publically.
i’m not a big Game fan. but i feel you–i don’t know many ppl from outside of Cali who like our music (outside of “The Chronic” and “Doggystyle” fans). i grew up West Coastin and my big bro put me up on a lot of underground artists, esp ones from around our way (southest diego). but yeah, i understand.
My only stipulation on music: If he listens to West Coast music and LOVES IT…. he’s cut off.
what exactly do you mean by West Coast music? stuff like Dr. Dre and Snoop? Or N.W.A? etc?
cuz if so, are you insane, madame?
Nah, I meant that silly stuff, the krump music… and the guys who did who-banging… the group Ice Cube was in (NOT one of his proudest moments)????
Off the top of the dome…..
Good Break Up Song – O’Jays “Your Body’s Here With Me (But Your Mind is On the Other Side of Town)
Gladys Night – “Neither One of Us”
Good Love Song – Method and MJB – “Your All I Need”
I’ll probably be back with more.
On the sad love song tip, Luther will make you cry alligator tears. When I was going through my divorce I listend to way to much a “House Is Not A Home” and “Superstar”, not to mention some “Rocket Love” by Stevie. Marvin didn’t help either he has a whole album about the pain of his failed marriage” Here My Dear”.
Straight up depressing stuff their, beautiful but depressing.
Lalah Hathaway sang me through my divorce w/her “Outrun The Sky” album. The sad song was “We Were 2″ and the “ok, get it together” songs were “Stronger” and “Outrun The Sky”.
Here My Dear, was a depressing album…it’s a hard listen.
My “get it together, it’s over so just move on” soundtrack was a whole bunch of ignorant rap music and then some Smokie Norful and John P. Kee. The rap music restored a little of my confidence and the Gospel gave me hope and evened me out agian.
i actually enjoy listening to Hear My Dear, because of all the drama behind it. this ninja made a f*ck you ALBUM to his ex-wife to pay off his alimony. LOL. ingenious. i just laugh when i listen to it like, “oh he MEANT that line right there…”
It was a great eff you to ol’ girl for real.
That was one of the most gangsta things ever done in the history of recorded music.
Just another reminder for all you foreigners…that’s how we roll in DC!
LOL. ingenious. i just laugh when i listen to it like, “oh he MEANT that line right there…”
I think that everytime i hear “anger’
But here my dear is a hood party favorite..that and womack and womack lets you know there will be drank, herbal refreshment rotel, hotwings, sweet tuna fish and some hardcore dominoes and spades playing..
This list could go on for days so my truncated list of all time best love songs
As – Stevie Wonder
I want you – Marvin Gaye (But its gott to be the 20 min joint)
I choose you – Willie Hutch
I love you – Aretha Franklin
In love with you – Erykah Badu and one of dem Marley’s can’t remeber which one
Everytime he comes around – Minnie Riperton
Best break up song is a lil eaiser for me…
Ain’t I been Good to You – Isley Brothers
As – Stevie Wonder
I want you – Marvin Gaye (But its gott to be the 20 min joint)
Dang those joints are hot.. and completely co sign the extended mix of I want you….the extended concert mix at that
welcome and sh*t. and good list.
I missed ya’ll yesterday…dayum cold tried to take me out!!!
Silk was a hot group. I loved “If You”. Now that’s a booty jam.
So you asked.
what is the best love song ever? And similarly, is there a song that you’d cut somebody back for? Basically, what’s “your” song?
Best love song for me? I got 2
Stay In My Corner~The Dells
It’s Forever~The Ebonys
Yeah the lead singers sound almost the same, but I love the lyrics of both, combined with some of the most heartfelt singing just makse me melt. And, that’s a hard thing to do..lol.
Couple others I love
Just to Keep You Satisfied~Marvin Gaye
Natural High~Bloodstone
Love Ballad~LTD
You are My Starship~Norman Connors
Yeah I hope he would appreciate the old skool, or we just might not be getting along…lol
Stay In My Corner~The Dells
I like this one to..
What ever happened to Keith Washington?
“Stay in My Corner” and “Kissing You” were on fiyah!
What ever happened to Keith Washington?
Good question…lol
Didnt he die in new jack city? LMAO
my personal faves:
I Want You – Marvin Gaye
Adore – Prince
I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know – Donny Hathaway
classic.
you cant go wrong with marvin and sh*t
***i heart marvin***
Someone already mentioned it by Adore is hands down one of the greatest love songs of all time.
“… You can crash up my ride… Well, maybe not the ride… But I got to have your face all up in the place”
And P. I will have you know that I bought the CD maxi single of “All The Things Your Man Won’t Do” and went through a phase where I listen to that song ON REPEAT every night for weeks if not a month. When it started to annoy my roommate, I used headphones. So it has to be a great song.
Other Favs:
“Love” – Trinity 357 remaking that song was an oxymoron because that was an abomination. Part of the greatness of that song was that it would have been interpreted so many different ways.
“Our Love” – It’s a toss up. I’m always down for the original but Mary J. Blige’s version was on point too.
“Love of My Life” – B. McKnight on falsetto for 3+ minutes. Awesome.
“Orange Moon” – So many people slept on this song.
“Silly” – Niecy makes you understand what unrequited love is all about. She combed her hair AND poured the wine and some nigaraguan had the nerve to stand her up. Sadness
“Lovin’ You” – That high note is exactly what love sounds like.
“Millionaire” – A recent addition. But I think giving up a sure thing to take a chance on a maybe speaks volumes on how someone feels about you.
“Guess Who Loves You More” – This man said “In fact, I’m on my way right now.” after straight stealing a chick from somewhere else. Damm.
“Mo Better” – I haven’t heard anyone say anything about this song not neva it is unarguably* the best song on that album.
“Handcuffs” – This was brought to my attention just recently but what better way to say how you feel than to mark your territory by keeping a woman “barefoot and pregnant”. Mine.
“Lovin’ You” – TTT has done it again.
“Love Ballad” – If you don’t know, your mama did not raise you right.
“Distant Lover” – No explanation needed.
I’ll be back with more. I can do this all day.
*If you did argue, it would just be proof of your ignorance.
““Distant Lover” – No explanation needed.”
Live version right?
No doubt.
::applause::
This list is on Fire…except for that Brian Mcknight joint…I wasnt really feeling that one but you get double points for Silly and Distant Lover
“This list is on Fire…”
As if Dylan himself had spit it…
Silly is also my joint…
I rather enjoy the Taral Hicks version.
The who, what?
Someone dare remake this song. Outrageous.
I don’t think it’s better than the original but I liked it too 8th. Holding my breath till it was over…but still. She didn’t f^ck it up.
Exclusively Donny Hathaway…
“You Were Meant For Me” – Yes I was.
“For All We Know” – This is some powerful schit right here.
“Giving Up” – *nods head in agreement*
“Love, Love, Love”
“He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” – Love is not all about romance.
I think it’s safe to say that “A Song For You” and “More Than You’ll Ever Know” have been well represented among VSB’ers
Side Note: Listening to “Someday We’ll All Be Free” and thinking THIS should be Obama’s Inauguration Theme!
You nailed every song. It’s like you just looked into my iPod and starting writing sh*t down! LOL!
I am The PBG and I approve this DH list.
Exclusively Luther…
“Superstar” – “Long ago and oh, so far away…”
“A House is Not A Home” – I think Mother Deviant might disown me if I did not acknowledge this song.
“Love Won’t Let Me Wait” – “This here, right now, at this very moment, is all that matters to me. I love you. That’s urgent like a motherphucker.”
“Never Too Much” – “I just don’t wanna stop”
“If This World Were Mine” – I left this off of the Donny and Luther exclusives, because both versions are slammin’.
And yes I did use slammin’ as an adjective.
“All I’ll Ever Ask” – Najee ft. Freddie Jackson… Blame Midnight Love
“You Are My Lady” and “I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love” also great ones by Freddie J.
“Testify” – I would be remiss if I did add this to the list. Sometimes love is funky.
I think we should be friends lol. Your list has all my jams on it. And Mo Betta was definitely the best song on the CD.
Mo Better really is a beautiful love song. We’re all looking for that person that makes it better.
*sigh*
Love “Guess who Loves You More” and “Orange Moon”
I can’t answer this because I have too many favorites. I can’t even come up with the best album, much less best song. My favorite songs are by Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Maxwell. I probably wouldn’t cut someone over one song, but I do know people who don’t like R&B period and they would have to go.
Meth & Mary…. Yoooooooo, Meth said “I got mad love to give, you my ninja”, if that ain’t love I don’t know what is. ”
word.life.
“never showing ya stuff off boo.”
I love it…lol
it be true, me for you, that’s how it is
“By the way, in case you missed it, you can go and listen to me on Juice Radio with Miz D and “Real Talk Now” were I was a special guest for today’s Battle of the Sexes show. We had a lot of fun and I got pretty ignant at some point, I’m sure”
yes..yes you did get ignant P-Fiddy..but that was really a fun listen-and I even agreed with you once LOL. And realtalk and Ms. D were great hosts. You all need to do that again.
thanks for checking it out.
i realized that i say “y’know” a lot…it annoyed the f*ck out of me, ya know.
I clicked on the link and couldnt listen… I will try again later
“i realized that i say “y’know” a lot…it annoyed the f*ck out of me, ya know.”
thats what makes people **them** that little quirky “it” factor.
i thought everyone did really good. could have gone 90mins even..i was about to call into the show..but as soon as i found my cell it was over.
and what happened to champie poo poo..he didn’t get radio fright did he?
Wow this is definately hard to narrow down. Ok a couple of my favorites.
1. At Last-Etta James
2. I Believe in You and Me-Whitney Houston
3. Brown Skin-India.Arie
4. Stars-Kindred Family Soul
5. Woman-R. Kelly
I am sure i will have more later.
“Stars” is my joint for realz… “We’ve come.. so far… the stars look up to you, baby”
Kindred is good. I have that album with “Stars” on it.
They are extremely underrated. You can tell there music really comes from a place of love. Just gives me goosebumps and makes me feel all girly.
True.
“Just gives me goosebumps and makes me feel all girly.”
Like a “Woman First”
Kindred’s “Where Would I Be (The Question)”, yooooo, that song’s hook is “Where would I be if I didn’t know you?”, I stanned over that song for a hot minute, repeat was my friend…
I still get into my personal “dance like nobody’s watching” mode on that…
Too bad there’s no one to dance with me… le sigh.
Kindred’s “Where Would I Be (The Question)”, yooooo, that song’s hook is “Where would I be if I didn’t know you?”, I stanned over that song for a hot minute, repeat was my friend…
me too
I love that joint. Kindred is always on point. Their love for one another pours through their music. I love Stars as well.
2. I Believe in You and Me-Whitney Houston
I can sit through the Preachers Wife JUST for this song!
These tracks are the truth:
1. With you I’m born again– Billy Preston
2. Here and Now– Luther (skinny) –I admit this joint is a bit cliche now but it’s still a banger
3. If this World were Mine– Luther (medium)
4. A House is Not a Home– Luther (Big)
5. Superstar– Luther (Big as Hell)
6. You’re my latest, Greatest Inspiration– Teddy P
7. If only you knew– Patti Labelle
8. A Song for You–Donny Hathaway
9. I’m So Proud– Main Ingredient
10. I go Crazy– Paul Davis (this country bumpkin sang the hell out this joint)
11. More Than Words– Extreme (y’all don’t know nan bout this joint. this is some 80′s rock fo’ that @ss)
12. All I Do is Think of You– Troop (“I can’t wait to get to school each daaay!” ‘Nuff said)
13. Religious Love– R. Kelly — This track will make you have s*x in a church (mosque, kingdom hall, temple, etc)
11. More Than Words– Extreme (y’all don’t know nan bout this joint. this is some 80’s rock fo’ that @ss)
Trust me, I know Extreme.
I had the album…lol
You’re killing me with the big, skinny and medium…by the way…lol
I already mentioned “More Than Words” up a few posts (well, more that a few).
“What wooould you do, if my heart was torn in two..” Oh yeah. We fux with Extreme.
“My friend” you are late to the party but you still get cool points.
Now, #6, that Teddy P., that’s that schitt.
LMAO! Deviant…I can’t believe that you beat me to damn near every track I mentioned. That’s that ol’ bullsh*t. I’m going back to the lab and start really digging in the crates.
Great Minds, D*Pain… Great Minds.
I approve your list… particularly selections 5, 7, 8 and 11.
Matter of fact, #11 is about to be playing in my office in 5, 4, 3, 2…
D*Pain, you just KILLT me at skinny, medium and big Luffa. I heart you.
D* I am mad at your skinny, medium, Big, Big as Hell distinctions… **smh**
my least favorite Luffa song is Here and Now,
but you had me at “With you I’m born again”…cuts 7&8 you would get the panties (if I wore some) and 12 well you would have a stalker…
lol Just admit it…you just hate Skinny Luther.
LMAO
I aint going to lie, I do not approve of skinny Luffer, but that song was my older brother’s wedding song, and I approve of him less. so therefore I do not like Here and Now
“but you had me at “With you I’m born again”…cuts 7&8 you would get the panties (if I wore some)…”
All aboard the IH TMI express.
**looking at 8th sideways**
not like I left them at The Champs last night or any night for that matter
*shots fired*
IH, what happened mayne, you are so testy this week!
You know I’m messing with you, stop crankin dat Ralph Tresvant.
8th Im just messing with you right back… no love lost
LOL great list…. I love Im so proud and If only you knew… dang how did I forget those joints???and co sign religious love I named that somewhere above but its bears a repeat. Also
All I do is th ink of You…..mmmhmmm..Great List
I personally like the Jackson 5 version of “All I do is think of you” better. Just seems like it was made for Michael’s voice… Troop’s “Spread My Wings” is the ish too. Rooftop dancing, hammer pants, the works!
I’m a n***a so they are…
Let me see it – UGK
Give me that p***y – Lil Webbie
Don’t Save Her – Project Pat ft. 3-6 Mafia (Especially Crunchy Black’s verse)
Tela ft. Eightball and MJG – “Shonuff”
J/K Those are only good for hoodrats when getting your “I don’t have any self respect and I just wanna get my nut on” lol
I’m sure it’s probably Lenny Williams
That ninja know he was beggin’ on that song.
But it kinda get’s annoying with all the oh oh oh oh.
It sounds like some one poking him with a needle.
Wood Has Spoken
I’m so ashamed to admit that I love Lil’ Webbie’s song. I’m even embarassed to re-type the title. “Don’t Save Her” annoyed me… the chick in the background screaming “I wanna be saved”… That did it for me.
Tela ft. Eightball and MJG – “Shonuff”
This song came out the year I was finally legal to club…ahhh memories.
I love this song too… totally a guilty pleasure… so is “Slow Motion” by Juvenile.. when ever i hear that song i think about … u know *blush*
Don’t blush. It’s a natural feeling to have.
lol.. u stoopid.
Oh, “Slow Motion” is that joint. That’s right up there with “Fukking You Tonight” for me.
This song comes on and I make some random dude very happy..
LOL this ir ridiculous.. But thanks for repping the M-town.
Dont save her and Sho nuff are the joints… you should have also added pats… Gorilla Pimpin …thats a classic…
I’m DEFINITELY gonna find Sho’ Nuff.. i haven’t heard this song in years and it’s so great!
I still have the single on tape!
Give me that p***y – Lil Webbie
My ISH!!!! Def not a top love song but a top cutting song fa sho!
Webbie? Ha!!!
“Like That”
That song is a rape carol.
“You know you want it girl, don’t act like you don’t want it girl, you want it just as bad as I do.”
Na-uh.
“rape carol”
OMG! LMAO!
Lol! Damn. I didnt say it was right, but I cant help but sing along every time I hear it. And know all the words. And have it in heavy rotation in my itunes.
“If loving Webbie is wrong…”
I don’t know if anyone mentioned it already because it is highly slept on, but my wedding march was Golden by Chrisette Michelle. When I tell you the entire wedding party, my guests, my parents, his parents and even his slightly a-holeish friends were all crying….
As far as the others… let me jump on my ipod real quick and get back to ya…
oh, as i mentioned before, the proposal jam was I’m Ready by Mint Condition… yeah, my life has a soundtrack.
I’m gonna use that song too! As soon as I find a boyfriend, date him long enough for him to want to marry me, plan the wedding, and get the thing going…
Got any good “I still ain’t lost my virginity” songs?
Got any good “I still ain’t lost my virginity” songs?
Slow Down by A. Keys… thought she gets on my nerves a bit, the message is hot.
all the slow joints off monica’s first album
especialy Kickin it with you and Cause I love you
“Got any good “I still ain’t lost my virginity” songs?”
“Sittin on the dock of the bay”.
LMAO
“Got any good “I still ain’t lost my virginity” songs?”
I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I’m just sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Pure Hilarity!
Wastin’ time
“Got any good “I still ain’t lost my virginity” songs?”
“Sittin on the dock of the bay”.
LMAO
Rude!
Wow. I am amazed. And slightly amused.
I feel ya Beez!
Too many songs. My brain might explode. But here are a few that I can’t live without:
Adore – Prince (obvious, but oh so necessary)
Whatever – Jill Scott (“Do you want some fish and grits? I’ll hurry and go get it”. Now that’s love to me)
All In my Lover’s Eyes – The Isley Brothers (Puts your between the sheets action on a slow burn)
Arms of a Woman – Amos Lee (A track a lot of people are not familiar with. They should be)
Cherish the Day – Sade (“You’re ruling the way that I move, and I breathe your air” … brutal. I love it)
Whenever, Wherever, Whatever – Maxwell (I dated a man who didn’t even listen to music and made that our song. He
Love’s Divine – Seal (I marvel at this song. It’s like the most vague, yet eloquent explanation of love)
Cristo Redentor – Donald Byrd (My absolute favorite jazz joint. It simmers for a bit and then hits you with the horn. Beautiful!)
Quisiera Ser (unplugged) – Alejandro Sanz (I understand just enough spanish to know this song cannot be funked with)
And I once dead ended things with a man who told me he “didn’t get” Otis Redding. That is a complete deal breaker. You must love Otis.
Love’s Divine is up there too. At my old job that song would come on and I ‘d have to excuse myself to the bathroom lest the coworkers see the tears, mistake it for weakness, and try to play a playa…
Oh man, I missed your list.
I co-sign any Seal song, but I really love “Love’s Divine”.
I would have to cut, and to the quick if someone said they weren’t feeling R.Kelly’s “I will Never Leave” or Prince’s “Adore” or Dwele’s “Lay It Down” (I know, but he’s just sexy like that to me–I tell everyone, my lust for young men will get me arrested one day…) *shrugs and puts head down slightly*
Love music topics! But I have too many favorites
Love, so many things I got to tell you…
Amel Larrieux – Make Me Whole
Mo Betta – Raheem Devaughn
I Only Meant to Wet My Feet – The Whispers
So High – John Legend
Never Felt this Way – Brian McKnight version (corny I know)
The Closer I Get to You – Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway
Just Me and You – Tony, Toni, Tone
I Keep Letting You Back In…
Ex-Factor – Lauryn Hill
I’ll Die – Floetry
Smoking Cigarettes- Tweet
I’m a Mess – Anthony Hamilton
Green Eyes – Erykah Badu
I Wanna Make Love…
Feel Like Making Love – Roberta Flack
All I – Jill Scott
Lay Down – Floetry
Warmth – Janet Jackson
Naked – R. Kelly
Sad to say ? TP2…it goes hard
I’m sure I have more, just can’t think of them now lol
Naked is one of the greatest hits of our time. You gotta love R. Kelly’s sick, p*ssing-on-kids, pedaphile-@ss!
Naked was hot. I think it got slept on since it was on that best of both worlds fiasco.
Sadly I own that too…lol
me too…
the only thing worse than “best of both” worlds was “best of both worls vol. 2.”
Yep.
Yeah, I feel bad for loving his music, but he makes great sex me up jawns.
Ok, Bailey. Your friendship request is now under serious consideration. It looks promising.
“Smoking Cigarettes” – I think Tweet as an artist is seriously uunderrated. Both of her albums were solid.
“Green Eyes” – What can I say? I have eaten a lot of vegetables in my time.
I totally agree with you on Tweet. Both of her CDs were good. I kinda put her in the same category as Teedra Moses, who no one has mentioned but her first CD was great.
And I’ve definitely eaten my fair share of vegetables lol. They’re hard to swallow.
“Backstroke” is hands down Teedra’s best song. That’s some serious “I don’t know why I’m still with you. Oh yeah. it’s the dyck” music.
“Oh, Papi. I sit and. think about. all of the. things that we. go through. and I wonder why I stay with you but there’s something in your backstroke…”
As far as Tweet goes….the Second album sucked. Major disappointment. Smoking Cigarettes was incredible though.
I can’t agree homie. I’m Done, Taxi (remake but still good!), Small Change, Where Do We Go From Here. That CD is aight.
This is a good list!
thanks
I love Green EYES and Clever by Erykah Badu
and Smoking Cigarettes was slept on tooo….Great list…..
shay d….were are cosmically linked today.green eyes is my sh!t. love smoking cigarettes and always will from tweet.
I think someone should do a scientific study on the percent of Black kids conceived to:
**Any Luffa V song, or R. Kelly’s “Greatest Sex”. I think at least 35.8%
I think someone should do a scientific study on the percent of Black kids conceived to:
**Any Luffa V song, or R. Kelly’s “Greatest Sex”. I think at least 58.3%
I think the better study would be how many kids he was thinking about while creating them.
I’m going to go with 100%.
Ewwwww. I don’t think I can listen to that song the same now…lol
Exactly. I was ruined on R. Kelly. I loved TP2 but now I just can’t listen to it the same.
And that was the best GTD (get the draws) album there was ….lol
I agree. TP-2, every single song was the junk.
Le sigh…
GTD, Tommy.

I like Twista’s part… the whole “f*** you against the wall…” thing…
***hangs head in shame***
That was the best part of the song laylah.
::snicker::
Chin up chick.
I see you D*… I see you.
Jamie Foxx had mad hits on that first album. Now that album had folks in comas. Some of them are still sleeping.
Jamie Foxx’s first album was vastly superior to that last trash he put out. I really was disappointed in that mess.
oh snap! i fogot about 4 and 12… those are somewhere **madly shuffles through ipod**
12. I’d Die Withou You– P.M. Dawn (”Is it my turn..” HOLLA!)
mmmmm… this is a great song!
Yes!!! Someone jacked me for my Boomerang soundtrack, and that song was the reason I was so mad.
That song relaxes the hell outta me. Its just so simply made, and I think that’s what makes it so great.
oh my gad.. How the He.ll did I forget Tender love….and I loved November Rain but I am slick a fan of Guns and Roses…Use your Illusions 1 and 2 was that hotness…and Heaven by Brian Adams…Brian got some love songs for you a$$ as well…Good job

Oh Snap! I sang that ish to a girl in 6th or 7th grade!!! Wait a second…Trina Jenkins? Is that you?
Carlo Washington??? That you???
Haaa! Nahh this is Tiberious D. Pain.
At least you got a sweet serenade. I got Freak Me by Silk in the 7th grade… on the school bus. In front of everybody. I wanted to jump out the emergency exit (I was painfully shy until about 11th grade).
I’m dancing to this at my wedding-
“Always”- Atlantic Starr

For the grown-up in me:
“Cherish the Day” and “No Ordinary Love”- Sade
Reverting back to college (very puppy-lovish but if my baby played this panty-dropping would occur):

“Reverting back to college (very puppy-lovish but if my baby played this panty-dropping would occur):

Love this SONG!!!

Also Love me in a Special Way..my joint..
Speaking of Blue Eyed Soul from upthread, I just remembered one.
Simply Red “Holding Back The Years”
Ahh. The 80s were filled with lite ballads.
oh MAN is that a good song!!!
I love this song by Simply Red!
Man. My mama was just playing this while she was cleaning her house last weekend. We were singing along together and she seemed genuinely shocked that I knew the words.
Seriously mom? You doubt your parenting skills like that? Proper music education is right up there with manners and hygiene when raising chilluns…
Fave 80’s 2520 throwbacks: Right Here Waiting-Richard Marx (and I hate Monica for trying to remake it… really, I do)/ The End of the Innocence- Don Henley
Recent Rockin out: Iris-Goo Goo Dolls/ Univited- Alanis Morissette

There’s more, but people have already listed many of my faves and I actually have to attempt to get work done today.
Iris-Goo Goo Dolls/ Univited- Alanis Morissette
love this!
both of these songs give me chills… its the poet in me
Univited- Alanis Morissette
The Unplugged version is far superior than the studio cut.
oh, most definitely.
I wanna know how you come you didn’t name Mistah’s song, “Blackberry Molasses”:
“Woke up Sunday Morin’,
Got a little bad news today…”
You’re slippin’, boo. You’re slippin’.
Bobby Valentino, in his curly glory, before he prompted random girls with belly piercings and tattoos together to “slow down”
I’m not slippin… I’m trying not to be OBVIOUS… Thank you Captain.

You’re in pgh too? I love Misery by Amel Larrieux. And you’re right about her performing live. I went to one of her concerts and she does the craziest things with her voice. That woman is the truth!
Yes… HI!!
another pittsburgher.
damn. maybe i should get this happy hour here crackin and sh*t
If a person who had never been to the U.S. read this blog, they would probably think that Pittsburgh is the place to be.
it is if you’re hangin with me
it’s not That bad… really. It was actually voted the #1 most livable city in the US in 2007 by the Places rated Almanac…
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07116/781162-53.stm
that’s very questionable for our folks though
oh. it’s VERY livable. except in the summer time when they shut down all major routes and miles of highway simultaneously—that’s when the Gem loses her pearls and and her mind.
but is it crackin?? only when Gem’s around…
Gem…P-Burgh sucks @ss through a straw! Champ knows it, PGH Muse knows it, PBG knows it, you know it and I know it. Let’s all just stop this foolishness already. *scoffs @ Most Livable Places*
lmao!! as much as i hate *ducks from pgh muse* the burgh, i can’t say it “sucks a$$ through a straw” becuz it has a lot of good and redeeming qualities.
that being said—i’d never stay here. once i grab that ph-to-the-d, the Gem is OUT on the 1st thing smokin!!!!
I don’t know anything about Pittsburgh…never been there. I know I love Philly and everybody I’ve ever met from Philly. Philadelphia grows some of the nicest people.
lolololololol…. sheesh… if guffawing loudly at work on a blog that I shouldn’t be on could get me fired… then i would be more done that that burnt black squirrell with the black crackhead teeth ash from somebody’s post the other day… That was a hilarious reply D*… da burgh ain’t that bad…but i’m biased…i’m a native.
You should! I’d definitely be in attendance.
what you doin in pgh?? you from here?? working?? going to school??
my name is Gem of the Ocean and i am nosy as h3ll.
p.s. ava bar on highland ave 6-8p tonight!!
I’ll try to get there early Gem so I can meet u
“say yes”… yes this will set it off. song is out.of.control.
Hi Laylah…
ur name makes me think of Layla by Eric Clapton… which is a great song too
hi back at cha pgh
and that is a great song.
“Laylah” by Eric Clapton is an incredible song!! Scandalous story behind it too.
Hey girl, I heard it was about his mistress or sumpthin??? I love this man. Him, simply red, Robin Thicke, the bee Gees, Hall and Oates… the most definitely put on for blue eyed soul
Laylah” by Eric Clapton is an incredible song!! Scandalous story behind it too.
and the Unplugged Version is OFF THE CHAIN…
Drops of Jupiter – Train
I love this joint.. your list rocks!!!!!
Sarah Smile… good one…
Thanx Shay,
I swear this blog is gonna git me fired.. I like ur list too
“Laylah” by Eric Clapton is an incredible song!! Scandalous story behind it too.
yeah. he was in love with his best friends girl, which is effed up by itself, but even more so when you learn that said best friend was george harrison from the beatles.
the fact that the four minute piano exit was also used as the main theme for “goodfellas” just adds insult to injury
and he and george competed for the girl by seeing who wrote the best song, thus Layla was born
Thanx for the info… i am a big Clapton fan
and now you know and knowing is half the battle… **GI JOE BATTLE CRY**
P. Gizzle,
this is a pretty great list! That Bitter album is incredible…albeit depressing as f*ck. That Jaguar remake is nuts, too. And who can forget about “Love Ballad” and “I love you more than you ever know”. Good work, kid!
Sara Smile… that is a great cut
er’ry time i hear that song now i think of that boondocks episode “Tom Sarah and Usher”
hee larious!
(can you tell i stan for the boondocks?!)
“Wont you smile a while for meeee-eeee!!!”
-Tom
oh… I forgot my Keisha, Mary, and Mariah Cuts…
Love – Keisha Cole
Thought You Had My Back- Keisha Cole
Heaven Sent – Keisha Cole
Be Without U – Mary (this was prolly THE wedding song of 2007 )
We Belong 2gether – Mariah
Fly Like A Bird – Mariah
Vision of Love – Mariah
My All – Mariah
Keisha and Mary are both some hoodlums. But they can make some hits. Well…Mary makes hits but can’t sing. And Keisha can sing her @ss off.
agreed.
i love Mary and Keisha… i can relate to both of them. That song Mary did w/ Lauryn Hill is the truth too – “Now I don’t” on the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Awesome song.
yes girl!! that song is the truth. omg. i remember being young thinkin i really knew the meaning of that song. *smh*
Misery – Amel Larrieux (btw this girl is BAD live)
did you see her a couple years back when she performed here for Soul Garden?? she shut it down!! me and my girls were up front, when she did her last song she came up to us and we were singing in the mic lol. we got to meet her backstage. she’s dope.

GIRL: I LOVE Terrance Trent D’arby…..he was way before his time…
He was. And so underrated.
Yeah. Now? Not so much. But “The Hardline” is still awesome from start to finish
my pleasure…i try to bring light to the darkness, ya know.
“I Gave to You” – Last song on Lose Control.. First in my book.
“Go On Without You” – The whole world came to an end and then recreated it self. That’s what’s up.
“I Wanna Get Next to You” – I can’t believe no one including myself mentioned this earlier. Awesomeness.
““I Wanna Get Next to You” – I can’t believe no one including myself mentioned this earlier. Awesomeness.”
I always think of that scene in Car Wash when I hear this song. The pats of butter falling on dude’s head…lol
yeah you’re right, “i wanna get next to you” is indeed one of the best songs.ever.
Simply Beautiful by Al Green. This song is understated, funky and s*xy than a muhfugga. It sounds like he is just freestylin’ over a guitar and a snare drum. This song should be played (on repeat) on a Sunday morning when you and your loved one are in the kitchen wearing matching white drawls and tees, cooking up breakfast. you feel me.
Yes. Maxwell didn’t do a bad job of covering it either.
You just described some good lovin’ right there… That’s how you got the first one…
you aint never lie. lol
that song is…simply beautiful. agreed.
some one recently dedicated Simply Beautiful to me, he sang it over the phone as I drove to Maryland

yeah, and folks say hip-hop hasn’t done anything to further music appreciation. Jay has a song on the Blueprint 2 that samples that beat…its just good music…period.
hit from Jermaine Jackson deserves respect.
he he as 2 hits.. do what you do… was a joint..lol
great list PJ
I love poisons every rose…
and concerning the temptations joint.. I tear up because of the movie..when Eddie looks over there while singing his verse and paul isnt there….smh…it was heartbreaking…
I loved the Force MD’s. That was true hardcore Jheri Curl Soul! Tender love is the best.
I expected nothing less than the best but #33 just gave you a VIP nook in my monkeysphere.
yay. VIP b*tches!
#32 “I Choose You” is a f-ing hit too!
I must concur, Deviant. #33 did my soul a favor by appearing on PeeJay’s list.
I f*cking love Eric Roberson….especially Couldn’t Hear Me.
I am SUCH an ERRO stan.
I had never even heard of him until last year, saw him in concert one time, and went home and downloaded EVERYTHING I could find.
I knew there was a reason I kicked it with you.
#6 just sealed it.
THE POET!!!
this list is tight..
you’re missing Evelyn Champaign King “love come down”.
And you pose to be a real Donny head?? what about “love love love”.
let me find out you one of them “this christmas” type fans. LOL
don’t get stabbed. and though i like “love, love, love” it just doesn’t stand out to me as much as the others or even songs like “thank you master (for my soul)” chuuch.
and i have everything Donny’s touched to include soundtracks like “come back charleston blue” and i own the vinyl of all the donny albums.
“this christmas” my arse.
don’t be questioning my love, toots!
ok you get a pass on the vinyl..but isn’t vinyl trendy now..i mean i got access to vinyl too AND 8 tracks..in my mama’s basement (from Max Roach on down to Donny to Frank Sinatra and back to dinah washington).
i know you don’t wanna have a spin off at the bbq lol
Bill Withers, Force MDs, how could I forget! It took me a while to appreciate Alicia Key’s remake of Tender Love, but I love that too now.
I love that you have a song by Willie Hutch (R.I.P.). He had some hot tracks on the Last Dragon Sdtk!
you like a full band I see.. most of your songs have that in common along with a general mellow somoothness.. I see you PJ a laid back type of fellow
yeah, i’m big on musicality-ness.
i also like suffixes.
plus i’m just a pretty smooth motherf*cker. lol.
14. Yearning for your love~Gap Band
truly classic
Dont know if anybody already mentioned Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me,” but that’s my number 1. If you don’t like this song you are a cold and heartless bum and need to be dropped quick!
I also think Van Morrisons “Moondance” is super romantic. That song was made for getting close and cuddly in the crisp fall air. Ahhh….Lahv…
Dont know if anybody already mentioned Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me,” but that’s my number 1. If you don’t like this song you are a cold and heartless bum and need to be dropped quick!
this song always just makes me think of the movie, and four kids rolling through the woods looking for a dead body aint my idea of romance
Just to let you know, I have NO idea what you’re talking about…Um, yeah.
“Into the Mystic” – This is real mellow. “I wanna rock your gypsy soul…”
the movie be d@mned (even though i liked it)…stand by me is an awesome song.
SO I feel like I’m mad late, and its not yet Noon in the Chi. But still I pushed forward past the 70 comments and repys to declare my one of My fav’s
Lauryn & D’Angelo- Nothing even matters…. oh or Secret Garden Barry White…
BTW: Any Luffa V, Isley Bro’s, Sade and Maxwell will hit the spot too.
SIDE NOTE: R. Kellz doesnt write or sing love songs… He makes f*ck tracks, do me baby hard songs, give it to me papi…. I think I got carried away. Now I’m having flashes, got to go find me a church fan
This post has me at work with the door closed jammin’. At one point I started singing out loud…
Nice job, P.
“You got me changing my expression. I don’t express.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vx0DP3Xx8wU
thanks…music is always a good way to go. who doesn’t need more music in their lives?
“I’d rather be with you” by Bootsy Collins
This isn’t a slow jam but this psychadelic funky @ss negroe sang this joint from the heart.
Song Quotable: “i’m gonna stick my love in your eye so you can see me coming, baby.” ….not cool
That’s love…
LMFAO.
That’s that real ish right there. No sugar coating, nothing. I can appreciate that… and cry from laughter at the same time.
LOL that song is the shyt as well.. Bootsy was off the chaing before there was a chain…. stretching out was good too
“You can see me coming, just coming all over you..”
LMAO. That song still bumps, though.
how could i forget….
“Break You Off”- The Roots
Best song ever. Seriously made for doing the do…
Oh! I love that song. I can’t believe it slipped my mind because I listen to it regularly.
This one is in constant rotation for the midnight creep!
This song is what the EFF I’m talkin’ about!! Damn a slow jam…this is what I need in my life.
So I came up with a few more…
Softly, Softly – Sweetback feat. Maxwell
Stay With Me – El Debarge
Change the World – Eric Clapton
Everytime Eye Close My Eyes – Babyface
One on One – Hall and Oates
Stevie Wonder – Creepin

Floetry- Getting Late and Say Yes
Those ladies knew how to get a man bucky naked with the quickness. Seductresses they were…

Those ladies knew how to get a man bucky naked with the quickness. Seductresses they were…
LMAO they were singing to each other…
Well they have helped me get a few bucky nekked for sure
Oh, I don’t know how I forgot.
Simply Beautiful – Al Green
Best.Song.Ever!
I hate this question. There is no single greatest love song, because there is no single greatest love. It’s all a matter of opinion and personal preference.
I like Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You” just the picture he paints in those words is enough to make you wish you loved someone that hard. Or that someone would love you that way.
I have been making a list of songs I need to add to my fake I-Pod.
Thanks VSBers for giving me a reason to further procrastinate this weekend.
lol @ fake ipod.
i’m making a list too. becuz a lot of these songs went up in flames with my old pc in the crash of ’06. some jams never made it to the new comp and my memory is just p*ss poor. thanks guys!!
Here are two that come to mind:
Get Here- Olete Adams
I can play that song over and over and over again. LOVE it.
Nothing can come between us- Sade
Yeah. “Get Here” is especially good when you’re missing somebody.
gotta go with three:
“crusin” by smokey robinson
“heaven can wait” by paleface jackson
and, for unrequited love, my surprise choice is,
“passin me by” by the pharcyde
Love you just for the jichael mackson reference… go you.
i def can gets with some “passin me by”
yup
Common, “The Light” – Love the video, love the message.

*modding in agreement*
you know common was talkin bout me right??
Oh YEAH he was.
::chuckling::
*giving V evil stare*
don’t start none….
I didn’t know that song was about delirious stalkers…go figure
oh it’s like that, Tutor????????
Also gotta throw in “My Cherie Amore” while I’m at. Specifically for those of us who have kids. When I hear that song I think of my ex-wife’s daughter; her name was Amor, so that one always touches a nerve with me.
Anyone who had The Box in the late 80′s might remember
Anquette, I’ll Always Be There For You.
Oh and Jill Scott, He Loves Me – those high notes hit me right in the heart.
*whispering* I do remember Anquette. She sings like Michel’le talks.
heh….. i do remember The Box… lol
OK, I am going ot date myself here, but Too late baby by Carole King. That is a great break up song.
carole king. wasn’t she an abolitionist?
lol…jk.
Um that should say Carole King, not Karen Carpenter
Today’s post is gonna cause Limewire to shut down . . .Not saying I do that kinda thing . . . .
VSB – you need to proclaim Friday’s old school fridays…lol
Next Friday, I’m doing an old school slow jam mix on my blog. This week is all about President Obama
it is henceforth decreed that Fridays are Old School Fridays.
and let the church say, yay-men.
*yay-men*
yay! men.
Yaymen.
yay! men.
*giggle*
You know who didn’t get any love today (arguably ever)…
My dude Darien Brockington. That joint “I miss You” is really crazy, dunny.
“Everybody needs something to believe in, everybody wants somebody to love…”
The best “not quite 2 minutes” on that album.
“Think It Over” is also a good one.
Not D brock….LOL
that joint is hot…..
You know what.
I love you.
“Come On Over”, “I Got What You Want”, the “Lover & Friend” interlude…sigh.
There’s something about “I Miss You” that is really sexy, even though its supposed to be a sad song. Just like “Please Don’t Go”, and “Lonely Heart” from Boyz II Men.

I am so surprised I haven’t seen the ultimate love song listed here, yet:
I Will Always Love You, by Whitney. That song still brings me to tears.
Just a little tid-bit: The version that we’re all so familiar with was the first time Whitney had sang it in the studio. It was so powerful and so real that they decided to keep it based on that first run-through. So at the end, when it sounds like she’s crying…well…she really is. Ahhh I’m overcome by emotion!
Thanks for the tid-bit. I’m all about the Pop-Up Video type trivia
Wow, if anything, that makes the song that much more amazing.
Thanks for the info!
This post reminds me of the last time I visited a club, when a lushie friend of mine insisted that the DJ play something with a “dirty guitar”. She persisted and protested, until finally he had her thrown out. After she left (yes, I stayed), he played 4 songs that fit the description, including the intro to D’Angelo’s “Lady” and that interlude from John Legend’s first (?) album.
LMAO!!!!! That’s pathetic! HAAA!
good laugh though…whew!
Here is my list of recent S*X tracks. Use this information with caution (I will not be held accountable for broken backs, hyperventilation, hernias, or other s*x related injuries):

First of all, 815 comments. DEFINITELY a VSB record. Thats NUTS
b. I’m crashing Ares 2nite as I download ALL of these tracks. Piracy UNITE!!
3c. I heart my VSB fam. A family that roasts, rants, and raves together stays together.
I was thinking the same thing! I have a whole list of tracks that will be jacked from Ares in about an hour!
Ares?
“First of all, 815 comments. DEFINITELY a VSB record. Thats NUTS”
Last week I asked Champie what he would do the first time our comments hit 1000 and he said he would MAST i c ATE!
i’m sure he doesn’t need a “reason”
*making mental note to not touch anything the next time visiting Champikins*

Al Green’s – “Simply Beautiful” will be playing on my wedding night. PERIOD
First off, I wanted to say that I’ve been lurking for a sec now but finally felt inclined to add my $0.02 I’m a paramedic by trade and this blog has kept me from curb stomping some of my patients at 3 am when they call me for a stubbed toe.
Secondly, I thought I was the only person who really felt “Alright” by Jamiroquai.
Lastly, I wanted to add two more gems: Geno Young’s ‘Honeydew’ and Raheem DeVaughn’s ‘You.’
Take care.
Uhh yeah, I’m not reading all these comments. And since I’m so late, folks probably won’t read this.
Anyway, to me, the greatest love song ever is “I Used To Love H.E.R.” by Common Sense. I know it’s not the typical “love” that one would immediately think of, but his expression of love for hip hop mirrors mine. Coincidentally, this is my favorite hip hop song of all time.
I read u babe. You are never too late.

My personal R. love song is “Looking for Love” and “You Made Me Love You.”
My favorite love song is No one else by Amel Larrieux, also featured on the Why did I get married soundtrack.

Yes I’m late….no I don’t care….
Nothing even matters by Lauryn Hill featuring D’Angelo, is far the best love song ever. The lyrics are spellbounding and the part that gets me every time is when D says ” I dont need no alcohol, your love makes me feel ten feet tall.” Without it I’d go through withdrawl cause nothing even matters at all…..wow pure genius, need I say more
Nothing Even Matters by Lauryn Hill & D’Angelo. Adore by Prince
Thanks Janee- I scrolled all the way down with my mouth hanging open that no one mentioned a Prince song…
Adore is my all time fav!! “If one day God struck me blind, your beauty I’d still see…” wow!

The one I can’t say “no” to:
the very sound of his footsteps coming towards me is music to my ears!
Oookkay so I am bit late on finding this wonderful, hilarious, in-sightful website!! And I know I am a bit behind on commenting on this post, hence the 2008 I see scrolling down…so umm yeah bringing it in the 2010 I will just give my few wonderful songs that I truly love. I am such an r&b chick and I love, love so here are some songs that I have chosen that always makes me want to sit and cry with a box of chocolates and a glass of wine/ Yell, OMG!
