Everybody has skeletons in the closet.

Hmm, that isn’t descriptive enough. Some of us have mouse skeletons in our closet, and others of us have Tyrannasaurus Rex families in their closets. Like third, fourth, and fifth cousins, of T. Rex families in their closet.

I have a lot of CDs and as much as I love my taste in music, I have some seriously questionable purchases in my collection. When the collection is being perused, I always hear somebody go, “What the…?” Well, I’ve decided to divulge my questionable purchases (which to me made perfect sense at the time, well not all of them…but about 30% of them).

1) Domino-Domino

The Ghetto Jam. Man this song was on everybody’s radio station hard…in 1994. You know honestly, this purchase wouldn’t even so bad if I didn’t buy it like 2 months ago. See that’s the problem with my bad purchases…it isn’t like I bought them when they first dropped, I made this bad ass purchase…recently. God is not happy with me.

2) Tatyana Ali-Kiss The Sky

She can kiss my ass for making such a bad album. However, she was so cute on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And she sampled all the songs you couldn’t go wrong with for singles. Hell, Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz had just made “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” and it was a hit, so she made “Daydreamin’”, then came with “Boy You Knock Me Out.” So you’re saying neither of these was a good enough reason to purchase this album?? Wait, you’re saying you haven’t even HEARD these songs??

Dude, she had Will Smith backing her up!!

F*ck you, she’s pretty.

3) Queen Pen-My Melody

Egads. Yes me and her mother, and lesbian lover at the time, are the only people to actually own this CD. What’s funny is, it seems that people didn’t even know she had an album come out. This album got SO little burn, I’m having to look at Amazon RIGHT NOW to figure out why I bought this. Apparently this CD was purchased for the song “A Party Ain’t A Party”. For shame…ladies and gentlemen…

I bought Queen Pen. With my own money.

4) Will Smith-Willenium

Now I know some people might want to laugh. But you all know damn well you were feeling “Just Cruisin’” or “Miami” or “Gettin’ Jiggy With It”. Just the other day I saw a gangster crip-walking to “Gettin’ Jiggy”. For all those assholes who have looked in my collection and were flabbergasted…this album was a classic!!!!

I really like the song “The Rain” too.

Hmm…after checking with Amazon, it seems none of the songs I mentioned, save “The Rain” are on this album. What IS on this album? “So Fresh” (da hell??), “Will2K”, (I’m really feeling sick right now), and everybody’s favorite…”Wild Wild West.”

I deserve no mercy and shall now kick rocks barefoot after a pedicure.

5) Profyle-Nothing But Drama

You know, I actually really like this CD. Nobody ELSE believes that its a good CD, and is always like, you actually BOUGHT THIS??? And to them I say…of course. They gave us “Liar” and we all know that was a hot song…then came the best song of whatever year this dropped, “Damn.” I’m telling you, this is actually a good CD. It’s like B2K Grown Up.

Perhaps I’ve said too much.

6) Color Me Badd-C.M.B.

Music’s answer to affirmative action. You just had to love these guys didn’t you. No?? Yeah, I own their first CD, and though I can’t name anymore than three songs on it (”I Wanna Sex U Up”, “I Adore”, and “All For Love”), I still am better today for being willing to support Operation PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition in their attempts to bring about a group of non-talented multi-racial singers together to record a few albums for the cause of creating the “melting pot.”

7) BBD-Hootie Mack

You remember the Fresh Prince episode where Carlton rents out the house for a video shoot?? And BBD shows up singing a song you hadn’t heard?? Well, that is why I bought this album. Aside from being a fan, I thought that song was tight. Man, television not only adds 10 pounds, but it lies too. That song sucked. In fact this album wasn’t any good, except for the songs “Above The Rim” and “Something In Your Eyes.” Luckily I only paid 5 bucks for it…in 2004.

Original Release Date: June 1993

And what in the shit is a “hootie mack?” Do they even know??

So people, I’ve shared with you some of my questionable purchases.  What’s the most questionable music purchase you’ve made?

And feel free to clown me to no end.

By the way, I actually do like OJ Da Juiceman and Gucci Mane’s song “Make The Trap Say Aye!” as terrible as it is.

Le sigh.

  1. Wow. This is a hard one.
I own over 400 CDs and about 2000 digital tracks. I got some vinyl tossed in for good measure…I do love music.

Some of the things I have that make people LOL when looking through my collection or go “what the hell?” when it comes on, are:

Debbie Gibson’s Out of the Blue. I’m sorry: “Only in my dreams” was a pre-teen fav of mine; I still get a lil’ happy when I hear it come on. The album came out in ’87; I bought it in 2003. On sale, of course. I’m not ashamed.

Milli Vanilli Girl You Know it’s true. Don’t act like that album wasn’t the bomb (during it’s time!!!). I also thought they were cute. I think the album came out in ’88…I had the cassette, lol, and downloaded the digital tracks last summer.

Dido, No Angel. I bought it when the song “Thank You” was a hit. It is the only song on the album I know.

Shaggy, The Best of Shaggy. As far as reggae goes – and I know my ragga music – Shaggy is bottom of the barrel, made for the U.S. market. I wouldn’t be caught dead listening to his music in public. Except for the track “Boombastic”…which is why I bought the album.

Ultimate Kenny G. I bought this in college (and it had been out ten years already) when I didn’t know what real jazz was. Now that I know, I am ashamed to own this.

    • @iloVEGrits,
“Dido, No Angel. I bought it when the song “Thank You” was a hit. It is the only song on the album I know”

I think the whole album was good…it’s just kinda depressing…lol

    • @iloVEGrits,

I got Dido’s joint, too. I actually like that album, though and her voice. I also liked that song that was the Roswell theme…um…”Here With Me”.

    • @iloVEGrits,

Dido, No Angel. I bought it when the song “Thank You” was a hit. It is the only song on the album I know.

i own this album too. and by “own” i actually do mean “own and enjoy”, despite the fact that admitting this publicly is basically the same as saying “you know, i love the taste of balls”.

  2. metro station-Metro station.
Those lil songs are catchy damnit, i’m not ashamed

    Big Tymers-Hoodrich
    No explanation for this one

And if I would go out tonight and that song came on, I would jam it! LOL That was a good purchase! :D

          • @Ms. T,

Girl that came on the radio when I was driving the other day. I cranked that ish up to 10! Big Tymers is good money in my whip!

Got a quarter tank o’gaaaaaassss/In my new E-Claaaasssssss

            • @Me fail english?,
Shooot. On Flashback Friday this morning they played “Money Ain’t A Thang” and trust me, I jammed that ish like it was 1998. What?! lol

      • @miss t-lee,

        This was my isht!

        “Everythang in my momma nammmmme”…

I’ma cue this up on the iTunes right now!

    • @You’re how old?,

omg, I have B2k Pandemonium too! Bought for 2 bucks from a girl in my class when I was 17. :-P But man…I was really feeling that joint “Sleepin’ ” I bought the whole album for one song. That was before I got my file-sharing game up.

  3. Wow I’ve got a couple of these. I haven’t looked at my CD’s in a while but I bought…

Coffee Brown- I think that’s the name. They had a song called after party which I still hear every now and then but nothing else… EVER

Ali- from the St. Lunatics… I know

Angie Martinez- It seemed like a good idea at the time and it was $5 used a couple weeks after the release date which, in hindsight, should have been an indicator.

On another note, Fresh Prince references are the greatest thing ever.

I was tryin to get up to my room. Yo Ty, what was you doin?
I, I was tryin to be in the video.

    Classic!

  4. Milli Vanilli here also. I think I’m gonna listen to this one today

Smooth – Smooth Talk about hot garbage. I got it strickly for the song “Mind Blowin’”. Should have just found the single.

Shyne – Shyne This is when I wrote Bad Boy off. Got it for “Bad Boyz”. Still mad about this album

Candyman – Ain’t No Shame In My Game. Now you know “Knockin The Boots” was the joint back in the day

Boss – Born Gangstaz. Got this one used just for “Deeper”. Glad it only cost me $5

Camp Lo – Let’s Do It Again. I don’t care what you say, their 1st album was a classic. But you know what they say about the sophomore jinx…

Coko – Hot Coko. Got this one for “Sunshine”. Maybe she needed the other 2 after all…

Crucial Conflict – Good Side, Bad Side. You’d think that after hearing 2 ok songs on their 1st cd I would have passed on this one. Another wasted $5

Kathie Lee Gifford – Born For You
    Deion Sanders – Prime Time
Michael Bolton – Just For You
These 3 were practical joke gifts. Still mad about Prime Time

Mokenstef – Azz Izz. Um…ok…it was used, real cheap, I swear

Nuttin Nyce – Down 4 Whateva. Yeah, don’t even know why.

Shaquille Oneal – You Can’t Stop The Reign. Jay-Z is on it, nuff said

Special Generation – Take It To The Floor. Man, I like these cats. “Spark of Love” was my joint

Spice Girls – Spice. *shrug* What can I say, I still like a few songs off here.

D’Wayne Wiggins – Eyes Never Lie. I got nothing

    • @George P,

Yes, Camp Lo was a major disappointment.

I thought H-Town made “Knockin the Boots”. Who is this Candyman you speak of?

Also, Crucial Conflict….are they the ones that made “HAYYYYY/ In the middle of the barn”? If so, you got what you deserved.

        • @miss t-lee,

maaaaaaan, that song (the candyman one) came on the other day and i was jamming in traffic. folks looking at me like i’m crazy.

            • @miss t-lee,

i performed a routine to this madness with my girls at our elementary school talent show. how we were allowed to shake, roll and gyrate to this song while jumping so hard on the stage to make the cassette skip, i have no idea.

            • @miss t-lee, v renee,

sadly (thankfully?) there is no tape. but i still see it so clearly in my head. and the sad part is, i think we had to audition! or not so much audition as show them the dance first.

but as i remember it, some girls had gone before us and had done pretty well so we were on the sidelines like, we gotta go HARD in this performance. hence, the extra exaggerated shaking and jumping. i mean seriously…booty shake, shimmy, drop it like it’s hot, jump up, land *BOOM-cassette skip* into a hand on knees booty shake, rinse, lather, repeat for four minutes. *sadness*

      • @N.I.A. Day and Night….,

        *looks left*

        *looks right*

i had that cassette. and i rocked it. hard.

        *exits quickly looking over shoulder*

      • @N.I.A. Day and Night….,

Did yall have the dance that went to HAY too?

It was very basic, but fun nonetheless.

    • @George P,

I got that Shaq AND Shyne AND Camp Lo… And I am not ashamed!

You’re wrong for “He might be doing you but he’sthinkinabout me” Mokenstef… They were a hot mess.

      • @ChocolateGirlWonder,

There is a story of a 9th grade radio dedication war that was sparked by that song…

Shame on all parties involved, especially the grown azz dj who egged that ish on for the better part of an hour…

    • @George P,

I thought I was the only one who had MoKenStef’s Azz Izz…my 11-year-old self was really gullible, but I got it for “He’s Mine,” which in hindsight is the theme song for fe-male-disliking women.

      • @WordSmith, LOL yeah I had that mokensteff….and you couldnt tell me shyt…..he’s mine youmightahadhimonce but i gotemall the ti-ime…..hes miine….and you cant sleep at night…hes mine…

    • @George P,

HOLD UP!! That Shaq joint was fire….B.I.G. was on that!!!
” My garage call it ceelo; 4, 5, and sixes…” He killed it

      • @Toussaintthefree, yeah I still will bump that “outstanding” by Shaq….born from my mother but im God’s creation, Im outstanding….

    • @George P,

Wow…you really took a chance even mentioning a Kathy Lee Gifford album. I’m speechless on that one.

I’m gonna rip threw my collection and see what stupid crap I got up in here.

  5. I got that Hootie Mack too, they have like 3 good songs on there.

    Um, lets see.

I bought that last Common, just to support. It’s still in the wrapper. I already know better.

    Janet 20y.o. again….to support….my bad.

The Boys last cd…I don’t even remember the name. Sad sad music…and I use the term loosely.

Heather Headly….one good song an album don’t make. This album is so bad, I put it in my ride and my car fell asleep.

Plies…Put Put Put it onya was my ignant pleasure. I put that album with and felt ashamed for the daughters I don’t even have yet.

      • @Nicki Sunshine,

I actually thought Electric Circus was better than UMC. I listened to UMC and once I got past the first couple of songs I just couldn’t take it anymore. Common’s one of my favorite MC’s, but he lost on that one. He had access to Neptune tracks and picked the worse ones…SMH.

      • @Nicki Sunshine,

        Electric Circus was way worse!

ive called it “electric sh*t circus” for so long that i forgot it was actually just called electric circus

    • @saule wright,

      “The Boys”

U mean “You got me goin’ craaaaazaaaay…”?

That was that crack. I made up a dance to it and me and one of my sisters used to perform that at all my mama’s friend’s BBQs

    • @saule wright,

You mean that “The Saga Must Continue”? I got that. For like $2.

Used record stores are the devil.

    • @saule wright,

Heather Headly….one good song an album don’t make. This album is so bad, I put it in my ride and my car fell asleep. .

LMAO at the car fell asleep. I LOVED “I Wish I Wasn’t”. I would sing that song until my voice was hoarse.

“I hear you knocking at my door again.
I’m wondering should I let you in”

  6. ummmmmmm……….ain’t nothing wrong with profyle. i don’t really have any bad purchases to talk about, because i don’t really buy music. but i’m thinking about downloading the halle berry song. ms. berrrrraaaaaaaaaaaay. ms. berray.

  7. oh, wait! i do own the rupaul cd that has “sashay, chante” on it. yeeeessssss. i can’t find it in my heart to be ashamed of that, though.

    • @charli skipper,

*DEAD* @ RuPaul. There ain’t even a room on this planet to fill up that much fab. I like her new joint too Put the Bass In Your Walk that featured on her Drag Queen show…I just thought it was so cool how she ended the song with “AND…WHAT”. Best way to wrap up a song evah.

  8. PJ, I’m with you on “A Party Ain’t A Party” and “Something In Your Eyes.”

The sketchiest (apparently it’s a word) CD I own would have to be Bobby McFerrin’s “Play.” I took a Jazz History course in college and a song from this album was highlighted as ‘innovations in jazz’…so I searched for/purchased it. It’s actually not bad…and Chick Correa accompanied him on a few of the tracks. He was talented…and it may be worth something some day.

  9. Wow… I had to pull a “youtube” for most of your tracks/LPs. The Profyle “Liar” with the Chris Paul look a like, LMAO.

So, I’ll hold my head in shame for owning
The big toothed Brit’s Shine (I’m convinced that only one of her teeth is or was oddly misshaped). Is Estelle a singer or a rapper? Too ambiguous for me and my preference for the beautiful people… yes I’m vain.
Tank’s Love, Sex, Pain… a horrible LP, but I’m a sucker for a man that begs. He wore me down with that ‘Please don’t go’ and I honestly thought after singing ‘Slowly’ some years prior that this would be akin to that. Boy was I wrong, and more mature, realizing that ‘slowly’ was not where it was at (preposition I know)…
Bobby Valentino’s first solo LP, although I don’t remember the group Mista. I was hypnotized by his down syndrome like features, guess I felt sorry for him; that’s my rationale for “slow[ing] down” for his slow looking behind.
Da Brat’s Unrestricted… I think it was the final year of ATL’s Freaknick and it felt appropriate at the time. The “Our Kind of People” within me was trying to rebel.
M.I.A.’s Kala… besides the fact that she performed at the Grammy’s with her placenta hanging out dressed as a ladybug, this LP is off the chain. It’s a great workout CD, and the bohemian chic in me digs it.

  10. lol @ this one.
-Panama- stop hating on Tatyana Ali’s cd. A friend got it for me when I graduated Jr. high. It was a pretty decent cd. Her voice wasn’t amazing on Fresh Prince what did you expect? I broke it out like 2 years ago.

As for my cds I get clowned on:
Britney Spears first cd- I was young and spent the Summer in a very rural part of Ohio

Ricky Martin- dam that Livin la vida Loca. Actually I like that cd but I get clowned hard for that one

Harlem World- Remember MAse’s lil group that made the song “I lke it” sounded good to me

Clay Aiken’s 1st cd and Christmas cd- … nothing I can say abt them

Dana Owens Project- Queen Latifah’s jazz album that came out like 2 years ago.

Backstreet Boys- Black& Blue album. Screw the haters I liked this cd

Adina Howard’s cd- I shoulda just bought the cassette single ‘Freak Like Me’

These are all the ones I can think of. Well there’s those 2 Kenny G cds

    • @Satya, I too bought Harlem World….I dont even have a reason but the first Mase CD is still my shyt…um I also have the Camron cd around here with horse and carriage…
I also have Rickey Martin and Britney’s first and second cds and all of christina aguilerra joints…..smh…..

      • @shay_d_lady,

Confessions of Fire was Cam’s most artistically free album. My fav is “Come Home With Me” but since then he’s been cranking out consistent shet sammiches.

          • @shay_d_lady,

Haha. There’s some Jim Jones interview where he’s describing a Cam song to an interview like “I’m doooown, I’m doooown, I’m dooowwn”. He was tryna sing “Down & Out”. You know its bad when even your best friend at the time doesn’t listen to your music.

        • @Me fail english?,

Confessions of Fire was Cam’s most artistically free album.

you know, “glory” is still one of my favorite ignant rap tracks ever

    • @Satya,

“Backstreet Boys- Black& Blue album. Screw the haters I liked this cd”

I couldn’t even bring myself to adding BSB to my skeleton list because it was this special kind of love that I refuse to insult. I STANed for them so hard it ain’t even funny. Mmmm, AJ. Okay, I’m back. Yeah, I had every CD. I even bought their Hits CD like a plum fool.

    • @Satya,

Dana Owens – Queen’s jazz album was decent. I actually lurve the version of California Dreaming she did.

    • @Satya,

“Clay Aiken’s 1st cd and Christmas cd- … nothing I can say abt them.”

      *Here Lies Blue Skyez*
*Cause of death uncontrollable laughter resulting in aphyxiation*

  11. I can’t lie I have ALL Britney Spears albums…Up to and including Circus.

I blame it on being dropped on my head as a chile but shoot, i love Britney!

  12. 1. RZA- Bobby Digital
I thought it was hot (and still do) but my friends rode me out for months for this purchase.

    2. Fergie- Fergalicious

    3. Harlem World

    4. Joy Enriquez – Tell Me How You Feel (single)

    5. Craig David – Born to Do It

    • @Nicki Sunshine,

Bobby Digital shouldn’t be on your list. Your friends have the questionable if they questioned you about it. You should hold your head down in shame for everything else on your list you spent your hard earned money on.

      • @Humble_One,

Bobby Digital shouldn’t be on your list. Your friends have the questionable if they questioned you about it. You should hold your head down in shame for everything else on your list you spent your hard earned money on

        ***vigorously nodding head***

btw, am i the only one who thinks the rza might be the smartest person on the planet? like, when he said “the world’s greatest mind, bob digital” i believed him

        • @The Champ,

          DUDE! I feel you…lol
Yo, but that domestic violence song was crazy as sh*t…like, damn, cuzzo what are you goin’ thru..(SMH)

          Bond. BlkBond.

    • @Nicki Sunshine,

With the exception of Joy Enriquez (who I’ve never heard of ) I don’t think there’s anything wrong with any of those :)

    • @Nicki Sunshine,

I’m with on you on like 3 out of 5. I think the bad part is I don’t even own some of these as CDs… Straight digital.

      I’m a sucker for a throwback.

        • @Nicki Sunshine,

Let’s not start on the cassettes… This could be all day and I need this job.

One word, Keystone (from the Sprung! soundtrack… That’s right. Sprung!)

Oh and… That girl rendition of the Bump -N- Grind remix “There IS something wrong….” I forget their name but I have the tape!

            • @Nicki Sunshine,

I don’t wanna be your sweet and cinnamon/I just wanna be your perfect gentleman!/PG/Rated PG!

Lol. That’s another group I struggle to find the “cute one” in. I still have the orange, blue and yellow single.

            • @Nicki Sunshine,

What?! I actually DUBBED Rated PG from someone else…

Edit: LMAO @ Me Fail English? trying to fine the “cute one”

  13. I own Queen Pen, Willenium, Color Me Badd, Domino, and Tatyana Ali’s albums…even though I lost all of them.

Anywho, I also own Da Band’s cd…(I swear it was for one song), a few Britney albums (good production, no talent), Cassie (ditto on the last statement), Five (I thought they were going to be good, but the cd sucked), and even JLo’s first 3 albums and the remix cd.

I would mention my NSYNC collection, but for that I am not ashamed.

    • @chaoticdiva,

Truer words were never spoken re: your Cassie comment. I was literally pissed off thinking about how much hotter that album would’ve been if they’d given it to Cheri Dennis. I mean, I think my face actually got hot!

Sad part is, she sounded much better on the lead single and that’s saying alot!

      • @Me fail english?,

I totally agree. Cherri Dennis is one of the most underrated artists. I think it has something to do with her being brown skinned. But seriously, Cassie’s most recent song was awful – the girl couldn’t even stay on beat with the song (I’m talking about Official Girl).

  14. Suspect Purchases (according to a few suspect friends)

Britney Spears–Circus…I don’t care what my friends say, I like Britney and her dysfunctional life.

Common–Universal Mind Control…Another cd I like. It’s different and I like hearing something different from my faves sometimes. My friends disagree….

N.E.R.D.–All albums…problem is my friends don’t really know them, and thus question it.

  15. “By the way, I actually do like OJ Da Juiceman and Gucci Mane’s song “Make The Trap Say Aye!” as terrible as it is.”

    I KNEW IT!!!!!! :)

    Heather B
Rome (I don’t care what anyone says the whole album goes hard!)
    Urban Dance Squad
Most of my house music collection
95 South’s album (yep whoot! there it is, got me)
    Booty Mix 4
    UTP Playas
    Meliah Rage
    Gina Thompson

That’s all I can think of for now…lol

    • @miss t-lee,

      Rome
      Gina Thompson

LOL!! Girl, you sound like one of my sisters’ long lost twin!

That was around the same time she copped Mista, Changing Faces “G.H.E.T.T.OUT” (da eff does that stand for?) and Kut Klose. She loves shetty R&B!

      • @Me fail english?,
I just rememberd I have Yvette Michelle’s album too.

        Shetty R&B is right…lmao!!!

        • @miss t-lee,

LOL. I had Yvette Michelle too. I loved “I’m not feeling you” Too bad, that and “Crazy” were the only two songs I can remember off of there.

Also, I copped a Billy Lawrence single or too. Probably after I bought that MC Lyte joint with the WRONG version of Cold Rock a Party. smh. WHO told me?

          • @Me fail english?,

I got that Billy Lawrence. “Happy” was about the only good song on the album. Again, used records store… $2

      • @Me fail english?, That was around the same time she copped Mista, Changing Faces “G.H.E.T.T.OUT” (da eff does that stand for?) and Kut Klose. She loves shetty R&B!

Hey! I liked Changing Faces… do you mind if i stroke you up…rkelly comes in ”I dont mind”… …LOL i have their albums as well

    • @miss t-lee,

      Urban Dance Squad
Most of my house music collection
95 South’s album (yep whoot! there it is, got me)
      Booty Mix 4

      the above albums>water boarding

    • @miss t-lee,

Rome was like a Bizarro Keith Sweat with all that whining. I am ashamed to say I used up a BMG selection on that CD and it is still in my possession.

I went to high school in Central FL so 95 South is an acceptable addition. That CD is pure nostalgia (and comedy). I wish I had it now but somebody got me for it sophomore year in college.

And Gina Thompson (I have this one too.) would probably be somebody if it wasn’t for the black hole that is Bad Boy. Worse have reached higher heights. Her “comeback” was…. well, it wasn’t but she tried.

      • @ChocolateGirlWonder,
“Rome was like a Bizarro Keith Sweat with all that whining. ”

I’m glad I siting by myself, because I would have just gotten in trouble for laughing loudly…lol
He’s still in heavy rotation, on my mp3 player and errything.

  16. Raven Simone-”that’s what little girls are made of”…remember she was like 7 driving a Jeep with some girls way too old to be hanging around her? Luckily, it was a cassette single…

Fu-Sheckins(sp) featuring Shaq-Fu…”Imma treat you like a Shaq knife and cut you with precision”…

Yep, in 1992-93 I was on some bull-ish..

    • @Numbah 5,

LMAO. That was back when Raven was a thug. She wore Cross Colours and everything

And Fu Schnickens went hard, B! “I am a true…what?!…I am a true Fu Schnick!”

    • @Numbah 5,
“Fu-Sheckins(sp) featuring Shaq-Fu…”Imma treat you like a Shaq knife and cut you with precision”…”

Can I Rock?!?!? What’s up Doc?
Oh God…I have that cassette single…
      *chuckling*

      • @miss t-lee,

Can I Rock?!?!? What’s up Doc?
Oh God…I have that cassette single…
        *chuckling*

me too. i still have the first verse memorized

    • @Numbah 5,

lol. i have that raven symone single too! and knew ALL the words back in the day. didn’t missy write that joint?

  17. No skeletons here! My family and friends tend to mostly be on the hood side of things so pretty much everything I bump gets clowned. Among the worst roast-worthy acts I’ve played are:

    Razorlight
    A New Found Glory
    Ramstein
    Weezer
    Ting Tings
    Oasis
    Ben Folds Five
    Korn
    Tool
No Limit (or anything even tenuously associated with Master P)
edit: I forgot about the Grateful Dead and whoever sings “I’m Your Captain”. People really hate that ish.

The only thing I’ve ever turned down when riding in public is Junior Senior, Sylvester and Donna Summer. Ok, pretty much any disco other than the Bee Gees…cuz I’m a mutha-effin thug!

And the only things I regret downloading cuz I later realize how much donkey meat they suck and can’t figure out what acid I was dropping to actually purchase the garbage…falls into the southern rap category. This means you Hurricane Chris!

    • @Me fail english?,
      Tool?
See–oh heyll yeah! We can kick it.
I loved “Prison Secks”. Great song and a disturbing video.

        • @Me fail english?,
I don’t remember it being anything super graphic, just kinda dark and really weird. Then again…that’s Tool…lol

    • Ok I just thought of a really terrible purchase that falls outside the realm of booty rap. That damn Black Gangster soundtrack!

That’s the movie Supreme and Irv Gotti shot together that is sold nowhere outside of Queens…that went on to gross millions *side-eye* thereby legitimately financing Preme’s still lavish lifestyle *gas face*

Hey kids! Ever wonder what your favorite rapper sounds like while getting extorted into doing free tracks for a drug dealer? Well look no further. The “Black Gangster” soundtrack featured Jay-Z, DMX, Ja Rule (this was circa ’98) and others.

I think it came free with a pair of socks I bought on the Ave. smh

    • Ok, I’m not ashamed but I really played myself buying JD’s “Life in 1472″.

How is it possible that he can make such banging music for everyone but himself? And how dare the artists that he laced not tell him how shetty those tracks were? You wouldn’t let him put that ish on yo’ album! Damn! Help a lil ninja out?!

  18. @Panama- there is nothing to be ashamed about CMB!

Some people give me the sideeye for owning MC Hammer’s Greatest Hits, but I actually think it’s one of my better purchases.

    2L2Q!

    • @Babs,

I got both 2 Legit and “Please, Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em” when they were fashionable… I wish a nucca would say something like they weren’t dancing to “Pray” in the church choir on Youth Sunday… =\

    • @Babs,
Man please, you put on “Turn This Mutha Out” and I will still get up and dance.
      I ain’t playin’.

    • @Babs, people clown on hammer now but back in the day he was the SH!T!!!

i am ashamed to admit though that i own that cassette from when he went all thug over at death row. *sigh*

i can’t keep reading these comments. my list below is nothing compared to the crap i remember owning after reading other people’s lists.

      • @SouthernGirl,

Don’t feel bad…I had that Pumps and a Bump cassette, too. Used to rock it hard driving to classes thinking I was about something. Hahahaha at my college aged self.

  19. I naturally repel wackness but, sometimes I slip.

I bought all of these when the 1st came out

    1) CB4 soundtrack – I don’t know what I was thinking.

    2)Paul Wall – The People’s Champ
I can’t believe I bought this over Bun B. I called my self trying something new because I was already a Bun B. fan.

    3)Nature – For all Seasons

    4)NORE – Melvin Flynt – Da Hustler
I bought this back in 1999. After his 1st album I thought this would be hard. I guessed wrong.

5)K-9 Posse (This was Charlie Murphy’s rap group)

6)Pitch Black – Pitch Black Law
The single It’s All Real had me hooked. The album was wack but that one song was worth the $10.

half-bad albums(bangin beats but terrible lyrics)

1)Bloods and Crips – Bangin on Wax
I bought this back in spring of 1993. The lyrics were TERRIBLE but the beats were tight. I tried to listen to this tape 2yrs after I bought and I couldn’t take it.

    2) Group Home – Livin’ Proof
I bought this 1st day it dropped in the fall of 1995. I heard the single Supastar a year before the album came out. I was fiending for that album every since I heard that single. The lyrics were horrid but the beats were straight heroin. DJ Premier is still the man but this was when he was in his prime.

    • @Humble_One,

Yeah, Nore could never top that first cd. “I Love My Life” and “Superthug” still gets much play on my Ipod.

    • @Humble_One,

These remind of the epic fail that is Canibus’ first joint. Talk about letdown of a lifetime

    • @Humble_One,
I just listened to some Group Home songs. I think I’m a new fan. LOL. I wouldn’t be ashamed of owning their cd’s

  20. “1) CB4 soundtrack – I don’t know what I was thinking.”

    I don’t either. lol
*walks off singing and I’m black ya’ll and I’m black ya’ll and I’m blackety black black black ya’ll.*

    • @miss t-lee,

      LMAO. I was wondering if they’d have “I’m fat y’all/I’m fat…”

I still quote the line “Straight outta LoCash/ Crazy MFer named Gusto!”

    • @miss t-lee,

I never appreciated that movie back then due to my youth, but today that movie is like a documentary on mainstream rap music.

Officer Rickey? Plies? [Insert fake rapper name here]?

…that “Deeper than Rap” does go hard, though.

    • @miss t-lee,

      I love you..LMAO!

Yo, that movie was funny as shit, I say stuff from that movie to this day

“Shut up and eat your big ass biscuit”

  21. Music I’ve owned that folks may frown upon

*Ace of Base cassette – when I bought my Sony Walkman in 1994, they threw in an Ace of Base cassette for good measure. I never did listen to it

*Enya – “I hope you dance” is MY SONG! I ain’t listened to the rest of the CD though

*Celine Dion’s CD – Eff you ALL but Celine is my homeskillet! Psht! That French Canadian Balladeer can CROON!

*screams* I’m a Celine Dion fan and I’ont care who knows it!!!!

    *weight lifted off shoulders*

    Thank You.

    –Management

  22. Music one of my favorite subjects. I have some CD’s that to me are just fine but I’m sure it makes me seem less “hip”. I have:

Phil Collins Greatest hits and Genesis Greatest hits (love me some Phil Collins) and yes I’m black and way under 50 yrs old, lol.

Frank Sinatra’s Greatest hits, Frank is the man and I love all his songs on the CD but once again I’m black and way under 70 yrs old.

I bought the single for “I Get Around” by Rappin 4-tay (I’m sure no one remembers him, I had to think about what his name was for a minute, even he doesn’t remember using that name) not a bad song though but I haven’t listened to it since the 90′s so…
Some I want to take back to the store even if I only get a couple of bucks for them (hey, we’re in a recession) like:

Backstreet Boys-Millenium (I didn’t really like the songs on there but I was a fan of there’s in the 90′s, hey I was in my late teens then)

Howie Day- I liked the single “Collide” it’s one of my favorite songs but the rest of the CD was blah.

BTW, Color Me Badd could really sing though and “I wanna Sex You Up” is my of my favorite songs ever, there should be no shame in your game regarding them. Also iLoveGrits: Debbie Gibson is my girl, I love her songs, they are still my jams and I get happy hearing them.

    • @pinksghetti, Genesis and Phil collins is Nothing to be ashamed of.. now Debbie Gibson? LOL but for real.. I got that tiffany joint somehwere around here….

      • @shay_d_lady,

i think we’re alone now. there doesn’t seem to be anyone around……..so shame the devil and tell the truth. you was feeling debbie gibson. me no know about electric youth but lost in your eyes was the business!

      • @shay_d_lady,

I never bought the Debbie Gibson Cd/tape but I love her songs and not too long ago I watched all her videos on Youtube and I got a little misty.

      • @N.I.A. Day and Night….,

Yeah I think everyone loves the Chairman of the Board.

And I really can’t think of anyone who doesn’t like Su-Su-SUDIOOOOOO! (wtf does that mean tho?) or Against All Odds. Even my ghetto ass family. He’s up there with Paul Simon and Culture Club as far as hood passes go.

    • @pinksghetti,
      I remember Rappin’ 4-Tay…wow.

Ain’t nothin wrong with Phil Collins. Shoot I will crank up “In The Air Tonight” in a minute…lol

    • @pinksghetti,

The only shame in Phil Collins is that duet he did with Bone Thugs N Harmony. Me and my sister always clown that video saying it looks like they Microsoft copy and pasted him onto the video. Ya’ll know they weren’t in the same place at the same time! lol

      • @Cheekie,

I remember that. Phil did look uncomfortable I bet he was look “who are these guys, oh well, who cares more cash for me”. Just kidding, my Phil wouldn’t think that way.

  23. ummm… except for the profyle joint.. I own all those cds…umm and I even have the most recent Will Smith album Lost and Found…..I know and guess what? I am not ashamed! I also have own all Ginuwine CD’s and the last two trey times joints.. which were actually pretty good…so sue me

    • @shay_d_lady,

“I also have own all Ginuwine CD’s and the last two trey times joints”

who in heck is trey times?

        • @V Renee,

          In that case… Ditto.

Again, my love for ignorance knows no bounds… Superwoman is my jam!

          • @ChocolateGirlWonder,

Lol. I broke out the mixtape on a roadtrip with this song when he’s rapping all over the place. My girls clowned me from NY to Philly.

“Eh, who said Trey Songz aint fiyah?!”

          • @ChocolateGirlWonder, I did…LOL trey times is a dj on k97 here in memphis..my bad..yeah I got trey songz..

  24. i also have the backstreet boys and all the n sync albums….I also have Love Ambition and The first Jamie Fox joint with “infatuation” ,

    • @shay_d_lady,

      That’s alright!

Jason was fresh of Thea too… He needed better PR. Him and Brandy should have been singing duets on every album (<– I’m not serious.)

  25. and my last guilty pleasures…ABC-at the playground, The Boys-The Boys and The saga must continue…Subway and 702 single “the game you play” and all the 702 albums….The good girls..yall remember “love is like an itchin in my heart” and I havent seen it in a while but I also have Jade-dont walk away single

    • @shay_d_lady, OMG! i stanned for ABC back in the day. me and my cousins went to see them in concert with yo yo, third base and small change.

i was in heaven. and they were signing posters (which i still have) and i was all shy and embarrassed because as he was signing my poster my cousin told mark that i liked him. *sigh* good times. i had that small change cd too. had some pretty good songs on it.

  26. this sh!t is hilarious. i did like those tatyana ali songs though. i think i am most concerned about the queen pen and hootie mack. i too am a BBD fan but just….no.

anywho…i (conveniently) left my questionable cd’s in new orleans but here’s what i remember off the top of my head…

and this does not include some of the awesome country and alternative stuff i own. although i do have ‘pour some sugar on me’ by def leppard and i ain’t shamed.

DRS- yes, that DRS of ‘gangsta lean’ fame. *sigh* dodged my mama at the mall to purchase this cd. what can i say?…nothing. absolutely nothing.

    Snoop-Tha Doggfather – straight disappointment

Q-Tip- Amplified -just garbage. got sucked in by breathe and stop and vivrant thing. and wtf is a vivrant thing anyway? did he mean vibrant? i’m still confused…

Mac Mall – can i get a pass because i only bought the single ‘get right’? does anybody even remember that song? *sigh*

Crucial Conflict- hell, i STILL fux with ‘hay’ and i don’t even smoke.

    • @SouthernGirl,

DRS – I (recently) downloaded both Gansta Lean AND Scoundrels Get Lonely Too.

      NO shame…

    • @SouthernGirl,

“Mac Mall – can i get a pass because i only bought the single ‘get right’? does anybody even remember that song? *sigh* ”

Beware of any artist whose name starts with Mac, Pimpin, Lil, or Young.

    • @SouthernGirl,

Aw, yeah, Crucial Conflict! They’ve been playing “Hay” recently on local Chicago radio stations. It just happened all of a sudden. Like why are they bringing this stuff back? We bumped that mess, though and were juking in the car. Reminiscing of The Box and stuff. Fun.

    • @SouthernGirl,

Crucial Conflict- hell, i STILL fux with ‘hay’ and i don’t even smoke.

you know, it didnt even dawn on me until like 1999 what they were really talking about. i just thought they were rap-farmers

  27. - Mase – Harlem World
I liked it then, couldn’t listen to it now

    - Ruff Ryders – Ryde or Die Vols. 1 – 3
same as above for Vol. 1, Vols. 2 and 3, I have no excuse for.

    - Eve – Ruff Ryders First Lady

    - Jay-Z – The Blueprint 2
I’m not ashamed of this, just wish I hadn’t bought it.

    - Dru Hill – Dru World Order

    - Juelz Santana – Back Like Cooked Cr*** Vols. 1 and 2

    - Puff Daddy and the Family – No Way Out

Note that most of the albums came out between 1996 and 2000. 11-to 14-year-old WordSmith succumbed to many more like this.

    • @WordSmith,

I’m not ashamed of this, just wish I hadn’t bought it.

oddly enough, thats exactly what overit said to me about her p*rn collection

    • @WordSmith,

Hey I got five of these… Those Puff Daddy and the Family joints were pure comedy… I don’t regret buying them. I regret not having the foresight to know I’d been listening to Puff ad-lib for 68 minutes straight.

  28. oh and I still have my Do or DIe-Picture this cd..yall know the one with ” Po PImp’ m-on-e-but y? LOL do you wanna riiiiide…in the backseat of my caddy…….and the crucial conflict hay single with like 25 different remixes….
    htown…knockin the boots….

    • @shay_d_lady,

they played po pimp on the radio the other day and i straight lost my mind. flashbacks to watching that video on the box. scaring 2520′s in traffic cause i was GONE!

    • @shay_d_lady,

Do you wanna RIIIIIDDDDEEEEE in the backseat of a caddy and chop it up with do or die…

Were they from Memphis? They look like they should have been. I’m convinced pimping started in Memphis.

      • @V Renee,

i don’t know about the pimping *snicker* but they were from CHI. twista was on that joint with them.

  29. The soundtrack to the Hannah Montana movie. I took my favorite 10 and 7 year old girls to see it and we went to Target afterwards and bought the soundtrack listening to it on the way back home. We listened to it every time we were in the vehicle during their visit and I ACCIDENTALLY forgot to give it to them when they left.

Monday I was driving and singing “The Climb” at the top of my lungs. I wasn’t EVEN shamed. What? “IT’S THE CLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMBBBBBBB!!!!!!”

    • @CreoleInDC,

i heard that song for the first time the other day. some of her notes are kinda off but it’s a good song. nice message and sh!t. i can dig it.

  30. i can’t speak on questionable music purchases as MOST of my music pre-2005 was not purchased, and came mostly from CDs my brother has passed on (he’s a hip hop head and so he’s my source on whats good and what i’d like) or my former music pirating days (be it theft from the net or friends). i only buy music i really like and while there’s DEFINITELY some sus purchases in the mix i couldn’t tell those i actually paid money for from ish i stole just to rock and bump in the ride (some music is only good for shaking a tailfeather and blaring through urban neighborhoods).

HOWEVER, i made a very questionable decision the other day when i made my phone’s alarm ringtone “hop up out the beeeeeeed turn my swag onnnn took a look in the mirror said whats up yeeeeeeah i’m gettin moneyyyyy ohhh!”. i’ve awakened to this song for the last week or so. *hangs head* i’m also ashamed to admit i have no plans on changing it any time soon.

    • @Gem of the Ocean,
I make no apologies for liking this song. Better yet, I downloaded Chamillionaire’s freestyle version the other day…lol

      • LOL!!!

i did also download “kiss me thru the phone”–everything but the chorus is garbage but i be jammin to it

        *smh* so tragic

    • @Gem of the Ocean,

If that was my phone’s alarm, I’d hop up out the bed too…to turn it off.

I get the reverse psychology aspect of it, though.

  31. last confession…… i own all usher cd’s…yes including the poetic justice soundtrack with “just call me a mack” and TLC’s ‘get it up”….let yo thing hang down…..LMAO

    • @shay_d_lady,

I too own all of Ursher’s (That’s how the people say it…) CDs. Even little 13 year old Ursher when he was crooning on the hood of a car at 20-something year old women in the video.

      I am saddened.

    • @shay_d_lady,

the only one i own is his first. no wait, i’m lying. i do have the live version of my way.

but to this day i am perplexed at how a 14 year old can be talking about let me make love to you real slow and sh!t at the end of the album version of can u get wit it. where was his mama?!?!?!? but even at 12 i knew that sh!t was off. lol.

  32. “She can kiss my ass for making such a bad album. However, she was so cute on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. ”

LOL. I thought that music video she made for her first single was cute when she tugging Will’s ears. Aw. Anyhow, whenever I think of her, all I can think of is that song “Make Up Your Mind” Ashley made with Gordy Berry and that bootleg Ashley Jazz made named Bashley. Lovely times.

“You remember the Fresh Prince episode where Carlton rents out the house for a video shoot?? And BBD shows up singing a song you hadn’t heard??”

I was just tryin’ to be in the video

I have the two worst CD skeletons in my closet right now:

    1. O-Town: I looked at Making the Band from the JUMP when that killer whale Lou Perlman was the head of it and I loved “Liquid Dreams”…no idea what I was smoking.)

    2. Eden’s Crush: Also a MTB group…I think. Were they? Yeah. wait, naw, that was some other show named Popstars. Anyhow, this was the beginning of that Nicole chick from Pussycat Dolls being the star of the game. I do console myself by saying I only bought the single CD for this one “Get Over Yourself”. WTF was I trippin’ on! Musta been that good ish.

    • @Cheekie,

“I was just tryin’ to be in the video”

I used to think that guy was soooo cute! Like a young Isaiah Washington!

    • @Cheekie, “Get over yourself, goodbye. It must be hard ot be you yeah living in a lie. I was always th eone to cry.”

I bought the single too. lol dam I was young. they were made on this WB show

  33. Don’t get it twisted: Domino had the hit called “Tales from the Hood” which is only a notable song because the locally famous Backyard Band hit that joint and had me psyced up!!! Something about a Go-Go rendition…

    Questionable purchases:
Akinyele – Vagina Diner – This was Ak’s first album before he came out with “Put it in Your mouth.” Apparently he was riding high from the “Live at the BBQ” joint that Nas debuted on. It contained one notable song called “I luh huh” where he finds out his girl is pregnant and does all sorts of vile things to her to make her abort the child like punching her in the stomach or throwing her down the stairs. Surprisingly enough, a couple of years later he had ladies screaming to put it in their mouths. Sing it loud my queens!

Grand Puba – Reel to Reel – Although my man GP has spit and shined on Brand Nubian’s album, I was a bit disappointed with this one as “What Goes Around” was the highlight and everything else was barely jammable. Even on my cheap boombox with the EQ up was not enough to make me keep this tape in rotation. (Yeah, I said tape).

After that…very seldom did I buy a CD (or tape) unless I gave it a preview or someone got killed waiting in line at midnite for it.

    • @CPT Callamity,

      “Akinyele”

The legacy lives on too. Am I the only one that was disturbed by the fact that India Arie’s inspirational anthem sounds eerily similar to “Put it in ya mouth”? Did she get Punk’d?

      • @Me fail english?,

Quite possibly. I never thought Ak was that great a rapper. Clearly it was his association with Main Source but NAS seemed to be the winner out of that crew. I’ve always wondered about PIIYM because when I went to college parties, that was a staple song and everyone, including the earthy, naturale chicks were waving their hands in the air mouthing every word. Of course afterwards, I’d be privy to poetry about “Embracing and respecting strong black sistaaaaaaahs.” You have to love the disdain of misogyny coupled with the contradictory endearment of a song such as this…it is now “classic.”

      • @Me fail english?,

The legacy lives on too. Am I the only one that was disturbed by the fact that India Arie’s inspirational anthem sounds eerily similar to “Put it in ya mouth”? Did she get Punk’d?

ive always thought that too. strangely enough, that makes me like “put it in ya mouth” even more

  34. So it was the summer of 2008 and my IPOD died (my CD player had already been dead and gone). After listening to the same five songs for a week on the radio, I decided it would be a good idea to bring the cassette back. Yes, yes take your moment of silence.

I went to the used book store and purchased:
MC’s Emotions, Color me Badd, and Skool Daze and New Jack City soundtracks. I even managed to locate a “legendary south” tape that had Mystikal’s “It ain’t my fault” and JT Money’s “Who Dat” as the only slightly bumpable tracks.

After about a week the novelty wore off (RE: the side eye became too much for my heart to handle), and I hustled the apple store into giving me a free IPOD.

  35. I have several guilty pleasures in my music catalog… Mostly consisting of either extremely popular music (Black Eye Peas anyone?), stuff that puts my Blackness into question like Marilyn Manson or Nirvana, stuff no one’s ever heard of like Antibalas, or really ignorant stuff (sadly I own and like Lil Wayne’s One Night Only).

I couldn’t even attempt to list all that stuff here but here’s a few:

    B2K – Gotta Be (single)

Big Bub – Comin’ At Cha (Tellin’ Me Stories)

JS – The album with Ice Cream on it

Brook Valentine – Girlfight was just ig’nant

Cait La Dee – Because that damn Tide commercial was so pretty I had to find that song… Which brings me to…

Nikka Costa – Like a Feather prompted me to find the album (and I bought everyone after that)

    AND

Thicke – Cherry Blue Skies (or Beautiful World, depending on when you bought it) – that Sprite commercial was the business

Swizz Beats – One Man Band Man (it was just catchy as hll)

Cassidy – My Drink and My Two Step was hot. I don’t even think I listen to the rest of the album

Chico Debarge – His sophomore album was NOT a success. I miss that money.

K-Ci & JoJo – As a die hard Jodeci fan, I refused to ride the K&J bandwagon. My dad however didn’t know this and gave me their CD as a gift… Yeah, no. I don’t even think I played it once. I only have it cause it was a gift…

LSG – Uh huh. Same story. My dad was not in tune with my musical proclivities

Salt – and- Pepa – Very Necessary… I cringe at this one.

    Evanesence

    6 Ginuwine albums

I’m gonna stop now… I AM at work.

Post edit – Almost forgot about MC Brains…

    • @ChocolateGirlWonder,

nikka costa is cool. ‘nothing’ is my jam.

got that cherry blue skies on the ipod right nah!

no comment on chico’s second but that first one was hot.

evanesence is in the truck right nah, i say!

i heart salt n pepa. my mama still won’t let me live it down. bumping salt with a deadly pepa feat. spinderella on vinyl. *sigh*

    • @ChocolateGirlWonder,

“Thicke – Cherry Blue Skies (or Beautiful World, depending on when you bought it) – that Sprite commercial was the business”

I love other folks that was up on Thicke before he attached the Robin. When I Get You Alone is my ISH! He looked like a homeless Jesus back then but I’ve always loved his voice.

      • @Cheekie,

“He looked like a homeless Jesus back then but I’ve always loved his voice.”

        Truer words…

  36. Yeah. I have Mandy Moore’s “So Real” *cough*
All of Backstreets Albums up to “Black and Blue”
All of N’Syncs Albums up to “Celebrity”
    Smooth “Strawberries (single)”
I have alot of Britney Spears up to “Oops! I did it again!”

I was a regular teenybopper stan.

    • @Blue Skyez,

Your mention of Mandy Moore just reminded me that I own both (Yes BOTH) of JoJo’s (the teenager, not the crackhead) CDs… Get Out was another guilty pleasure.

      • @ChocolateGirlWonder,

i almost swallowed my gum @ JoJo’s (the teenager, not the crackhead).

i hatechu so much right now. lol. she had some good singles.

      • @ChocolateGirlWonder,
Yes BOTH) of JoJo’s (the teenager, not the crackhead) CDs

Respect girl has some pipes on her minus the teeny boppish Disney crap!

    • @Blue Skyez, i have black && blue && celebrity. those boys can sing some love songs. black people needa get up on those for babymakin.

      • @`teacHER,
“black people needa get up on those for babymakin.”

ummm LMAO!….with folks like Isley Brothers and Luther Vandrosss I don’t think black folks are going to pass up them for the BSB/N’sync pseudo babymakin’ jams. LOL I said BSB I was such a stan!

  37. ok start laughing

Madonna- You can dance compilation CD
It had “Papa don’t preach”, “Holiday”, etc…

Even funnier, I was pregnant with our daughter who turned 20 on Tuesday and someone broke into the house. Stole a BUNCH of CD’s and that was one of them.

    • @bballmom,

My family’s got all Madonna’s albums on 12″ vinyl. But what kinda teenage crack burglar breaks into the crib and steals CDs? That’s almost as bad as the time I got robbed for my 8th grade yearbook.

      • @Me fail english?,

You know they were on crack because they took food from the fridge, warmed it in the micorwave and rolled the baby’s stroller through the house to load up what they stole.

Oh, and drank one of my prized Welch’s Strawberry Soda’s. I was HOT.

        8th grade yearbook, wow…

  38. There was this group Managed by BBD called GOOD 2 GO. They were an all WHYTE all girl group…. They sang a song called “Never Satisfied”.

“I go to work each day while you stay at home.
Lying in bed all day while talking on the phone. Then you tell me that you need time aloooonnnnne… Out in the streets all night, some times you dont come home!
You dont appreciate anything I everrrrr dooooooooo!”

If anybody knows this song………….. you get 10 gold stars!

    • @Laneianna,

      I remember that song!

Anybody remember Ex-Girlfriend??? “Why Can’t You Come Hoooooooooome?”

Trivia tidbit – they were also one of the various artists on “Burn the Crack House Down”

      • @ChocolateGirlWonder,

Correction: The actual title of the song is “Close the Crackhouse”

And I have it on tape (dubbed off the radio)

  39. The Voices– “This is Just the Beginning”

I’m not sorry. The boy STILL makes me say “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”
And I still remember the lyrics to “Library Card.”

    Don’t judge me.

    • @Nikiloveli, *singing* Yeah Yeah Yeah (insert breathy background Yeah). The boy make me say Yeah Yeah Yeah my whole world has turned aroouuunddd and u found me on the ground, since came, came my way, now I know he’s here to staaay!

      • @pgh muse,

Maaaaaaaan, y’all taking it back today!

“I thought, true only exiiiiisted in fairy tales and two hearts could never beat as ooooooooooone…”

        The jam.

  40. 5:30-until pgh muse flashes a bartender- BWAHAHAHA!
    *cue da beat*
Blame it on the juice, got u feelin’ loose, Blame it on Patron, got u…whatever he says next… Blame it on the A-A-A-A-A-A-A-Alcohol!

    • @pgh muse,

      “whatever he says next”

Bwahaha! This is why you’re in my VSB Fave 5. “got u in the zone”

  41. LMAO, i loved that episode and every time i try to tell people about it they give me that “we ain’t see it” look, but i digress. sooooo, my most QUESTIONABLE purchases rr Chingy “Jackpot” and Truth “Truth Hurts” oooh and the Lil’ Mo CD that had “4Ever” on it. i bought Chingy cuz . . . . it had like 3 hits on it and i had just got a job so . . . IDK what i was going through. Truth had the one song with Rakim, which i loved due to RAKIM and i thought since they made that choice they’d make some other good ones . . . . NAW. and Lil Mo’??? it was 5 CDs for like 10 dollars. i had to pick a 5th one.

  42. I have a whole lot of questionable music in my catalog. I didn’t necessarily purchase the ish myself (some) but… I had like 3 BMG and Columbia House subscriptions in a couple different variations of my government name. They never caught on.

My guilty pleasure albums of the moment -
Rihanna Good Girl Gone Bad – This is a GOOD album. I’ve had it for like over a year.. some one burned it for me and i NEVER listened to it cuz I thought it would be a$$tacular. But I LIKE it.

    T-Pain Rappa Turnt Sanga – I like T-Pain’s cooning a$$.

Embarrassing music that I still own (i really do still have some cassettes too.)
    Immature
NSync Pop – I actually kinda still like this album. good production
    Ace of Bass
    Cranberries
Sarah McLaughlan (run me over with a tractor if i ever listen to her again) I’m so over the melancholy “smart” music.
    Ahmad (Back in the Day)
    Willenium
    Made Men (Benzino)
I have like 5 of those Wu affliate albums just collecting dust from the late 90′s
Brandy’s new album I think it’s time for her to hang it up.
I can’t think of anymore. But these are bad enough…

    • @pgh muse,
“I had like 3 BMG and Columbia House subscriptions in a couple different variations of my government name. They never caught on.”

      *guilty as charged*

    • @pgh muse,

holey shyt! Ace of Base! I loved them even though I was just a wee one when they were jammin with the same song different lyrics/hook over and over (kinda like The Dream is doing now) LOL!

  43. Coolio-It takes a thief
Hey, I was a kid, I liked fantastic voyage-I should have just bought the lakeside CD…I was a kid damnit!! lol…

Kilo- Ayeeee, this was my intro to ATL music. That Love in your mouth was the jam. This CD was a constant when mixed with: women, weed, alcohol, or all above.

  44. I can’t even front, I was DEF a fan of Tatiana Ali’s two songs she came out with. I mean I was young. I still sing “uptown baby” to represent BX…people just don’t know what I’m singing though.

  45. I loved this post and many of the comments (I read them all). You guys gave me some major flashbacks to the past and a lot of laughs!!! Thanks!

  46. I remember, as a young Beez, (illegally) ordering the 12 CDs for $0.01 tear-out that came in every major magazine. Among those choices:

-Lou Bega, A Little Bit of Mambo (yep, the Mambo No. 5 CD)
    -Blaque, the first CD

And once upon a Disney channel contest, I won Ray J’s first CD, when I thought he was cute and had a future… poor, misguided Beez.
