Glory.Day.

There’s really nothing that I can write today that will suffice in light of what we’re all to witness today around noon EST.  Either you should be out partying somewhere right now, especially if you’re in Washington DC, or on your way to sleep so that you can wake up tomorrow in a different world than you went to sleep in.

Getting elected is only half the battle.  Actually becoming the President, minus the -Elect suffix is a whole different ballgame.

Tomorrow, I hope that everybody gets a chance to take some time to just appreciate Obama’s entrance into the White House.  I work for the Feds so I’m off to enjoy it.

Either way, people, we’ll be back Wednesday with some of that good ole VSBin’…however, today…

We’re going to take some time out to honor and recognize, President Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America.

Get like me.

And because most of us are negroes…lol…sing with me:

Lift every voice and sing
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us,
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears have been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God, where we met Thee;
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand.
True to our GOD,
True to our native land

Yes we Did it. But Change doesn’t happen over night. Prayers are needed for our 44th President. Keep him and his family lifted up daily. MY PRESIDENT IS BLACK.

  9. I’m in the office but they are showing it in the conference rooms and you are free to watch it from your desk. What are you going to do to help Obama?

  11. Since there’s a Jay-Z quote for EV-ER-Y-THANG…

    “My President is Black, my Maybach too / and I be got damned if my diamonds ain’t blue / My money’s dark green and my porsche is light grey / And I’m headin’ for DC, anybody feel me?

    My President is Black, in fact he’s half white / So even in a racist’s mind, he’s half right / Even in these racist times, we alright / My President is Black, but his house is all white / Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther could walk / Martin Luther walked so Barack Obama could run / Barack Obama ran so all the children could fly / So Imma spread my wings, you can meet me in the sky / I already got my own clothes, already got my own shoes / I was hot before Barack, imagine what I’m gon’ do / Hello Miss America, Aye pretty lady / Red, White, and Blue flag, wave for me baby / Never thought I’d say this shyt, baby I’m good / You can keep your puss, I don’t want no more Bush / No more war, no more Iraq / No more white lies, my President Is Black”
    – Jay-Z from Young Jeezy’s “My President Is Black (DC-mix)”

    • @Monk, That’s all I been listening too all day….besides watching the Inauguration via streaming web. There’s only 20 people in the office today b/c of snow and we were all glued to our screens at 10:30 am. The CIO even ordered pizza and had it delivered so we wouldn’t miss a beat!

  12. I’m so excited that I have the gigglefits! Okay, not really. I have to be at work today so I’m missing MY OWN Inauguration Party being hosted by my parents. Sadness. D@MN QUARTERLY MEETING!

  13. My boss(a middle aged white guy) has been so excited and almost near tears for the past week everytime someone mentioned the inauguration. We are all working from home and he let it be known he will be unavaliable around noon because he and his granddaughter will be glued to the TV in tears.

    This is such an amazing show of patriotism. I moves me. I pray that everyone not just things differently but makes a personal mission to behave/do something differently.

  14. I am so full today. You know you are overwhelmed when you see two people simply walk into church together…Mr. President and THE First Lady. Wow.

    Our work is just beginning as a people, as a culture. Yes, our recently evicted president was totally bull…but we have to remember that change starts with us.

    I’ll leave you with this:

    “The reason we have a messed up world is because it’s made up of messed up nations, made of messed up states, made up of messed up cities, made up of messed up neighborhoods, made up of messed up churches, made up of messed up families, made up of messed up people.” ~Tony Evans

    If we can fix ourselves, we can fix the world.

  17. To all my American VSB’ ers!

    I can only imagine how this momentous occassion must feel for you (as a non-American myself)! I felt my heart swell with so much pride. It’s an emotion that words can’t even begin to explain, I am in such awe – I witnessed history in the making. My goodness!

    Good luck to President Barack Obama and his administration. I put him and the rest of his family in my prayers (as well as the rest of the Americans).

    Oh and BTW – BUSH BE GONE!

  18. What a day. We can all count ourselves as being blessed to have seen it. It’s time for action. Most importantly, like Tasty Kake215 (gotta give some Philly love!) said, we can’t question his judgement the first time he says or does something we don’t agree with.

  19. What a great day. I watched the inaguration today, and saw some of the Obama’s procession toward the white house. Our ancestors must be so proud. This day could not have happened without their work and sacrifice. It will take our work and sacrifice to help make the next period of our history successful. Reading the words of the Negro National Anthem was really moving also.

    Happy Inaguration Day y’all!

  20. I am writing this while my girl Mouth Full of Joy drives us back North from the Inauguration -yes we were 2 of the millions that braved lack of sleep, the Metro, the cold (each of us came back with a face full of wind burn) to stand on the National Mall and watch our 44th president being sworn in. I cried several times (and that was just during the invocation).

    the energy and enthusiasm on that mall was electric as we stood and witnessed history being made. the crew of people I was with (there were 9 of us total) were intially festive through the morning but quickly became solemn. It especially touched us that we were standing next to an older woman and her church sisters who had “been here” when Dr. King delivered his speech. seeing her at the end of our day also brought tears to my eyes. It was an emotion filled morning. My walk across the 14th street bridge and I395 S back into Virginia helped me to reflect on my experience today, and though I am exhausted from lack of sleep and just in general coming down from an all time high I am even more inspied to support Our 44th President. Barack H. Obama

    P.S. Liz did u notice that for all the red Our First Lady wore leading up to this moment on this day in this time she wore GREEN!
