Firsts we might never see? A BLACK triathlete.

Ever heard of the Ironman? If you don’t have white friends, then you probably haven’t. But you’re ‘very smart brothas’ so you’re probably familiar with this phenom.

I’m a triathlete. I’m black/light brown.

I rarely see any of us at my races. I’m tryna to be the first to shatter my ‘firsts we might never see’.

We will definitely see an openly gay black professional athlete before we see a major blockbuster movie. Unfortunately, mainstreet, the heartland of America, does not support our movies the way we support their movies. Even if we put out a great family dramedy, it will never pull the big numbers.

If a blockbuster starring black people doesn’t constitute a black blockbuster, what does?

How then are other blockbusters white, if starring a particular race is not the defining criteria?

Yeah, you’re ultimately right. We may not like the ways the doors are being opened, but I AM glad they’re being opened. Sometimes we gotta deal with folks like Tyler Perry to get a name for ourselves. lol
