1. i suck as a scientist

between the predictions i made at the end of yesterday’s entry (a HUGE no-no, according to my girlfriend, because it can subconsciously influence results), my underestimation of how long it was going to take to tally the results (lets just say that it’s about time for a VSB intern), and my remedial-ass fisher-price counting techniques, this experience has taught me to leave the experiments to the professionals. and by “the professionals” i mean “someone who doesn’t feel the urge to spit at the screen every time he’s forced to use microsoft excel”

2. i was wrong

while i assumed that the vss’s and the vsb’s would have had similar results for the women, i thought that the vsb’s would be waaaaaay off when trying to “guess” (more on that later) which men the vss’s would be most attracted to. instead, the opposite occurred.

42% of the vss’s thought high fashion model yaya decosta (yesterdays #1) was the best looking women in the group, and 20% of the vss’s thought that honor went to television personality tanika ray (yesterdays #2). but, only 16% of the vsb’s gave yaya the top spot, and a staggeringly low 2% of the vsb’s thought tanika ray was the best of the bunch. instead, 46% of the vsb’s picked urban model bria myles (yesterdays #3) first. in fact, as you’ll see in a minute below, the rankings of the vss’s and the vsb’s were almost complete opposites of each other.

on the other hand, every one seemed to agree about the men. well, to rephrase it, everybody seemed to agree on which two men would fare the best, and which man would come in last.

38% of the vss’s picked new york jet darrelle revis (yesterday’s #5) as the pick of the litter, and with 36% of the vss vote, san antonio spur george hill (yesterday’s #2) was right behind him. the vsb’s picks somewhat mirrored this, as 42% thought george hill would be number one, and darrelle revis came in at 33%. on the other hand, a whopping 84% of the vsb’s had pittsburgh steeler larry foote (yesterday’s number 1#) in 4th or 5th place, a number that actually beat the women’s 70% mark.

the “average” scores:

women

(vss’s) 14253 (yaya decosta, tanika ray, business suit chick, hidden face chick, bria myles)

(vsb’s) 34512 (bria myles, business suit chick, hidden face chick, yaya decosta, tanika ray)

men

(vss’s) 52431 (darrelle revis, george hill, lenny kravitz, model dude, larry foote)

(vsb’s) 25431 (george hill, darrelle revis, lenny kravitz, model dude, larry foote)

***notes about the scores***

—i think the stock photo business women pulled a couple minor upsets. i doubt anyone expected her to rate that high with both the men and the women.

—i would have assumed that the vss’s preferred the scruffier faced men. i guess no one is ovulating right now.

—it seems that the men (on this site, at least) value “nice and safe” looking women, while the vss’s tend to think women who look a bit more distinct are more attractive. this (partially) explains the vast difference in opinion about tanika ray and bria myles. as far as bria’s concerned, while i assume that many of the vss’s will say that she was only picked number one because of her ass(ets), remember that many of the men initially had no idea who she was, and based their judgments on her smile and her skin. its hard to explain, but from those picture alone she just looked the nicest. and, when everything else is equal (all of the women were very attractive), men seem to go for the one who seems like she’d be the most approachable.

—i guess the vss’s can start calling a bit of bullsh*t when vsb’s (myself included) claim that they have no idea who and what women find attractive. i think we may have milked that cow dry.

3. kamakula solved the “why are their different rules for the vsb’s and the vss’s?” riddle

***his comment from 1:07am***

“I understand the rationale for the separate instructions for ranking the men. So, for those who will read this comment early on, let me burst whatever bubble you may be in. Those instructions are there to sidestep any potential “a man ranking how attractive he finds other men is gay”. The double standard is clearly implicit in the lack of similar instruction for women.

However, there is nothing new in all this. And technically, the two instructions, different as though they may seem, essentially both ask the same thing, rank the men according to how attractive YOU find them. Whether you pretend it’s how attractive women will find them is irrelevant, you are the one doing the ranking anyway. So, I tear away the shield and render all male responders suspect.”

4. i was a bit surprised at how harshly some of the vss’s went in on the looks of the men posted.

although i explicitly stated in the entry yesterday that i wasn’t trying to pick “dimes” or people that everyone would easily recognize, a few still turned in into a ‘well, they’re not good looking enough for me to even bother rating them” snark-fest, which completely missed the point of the experiment. it wasn’t a “who’s the hottest?” contest, but a little game to see if our numbers would match up. the pictures themselves (and whether you thought the women were better looking than the men) didn’t matter as much as your collective judgments.

as far as the comments about the men’s appearance, even a (female) friend of mine weighed in about this on gchat in her usual manner of edjumacated ignance:

“man idk what these floozies on the comment board talmbout, but those menfolk look attractive. each of those guys are men that most women would find attractive if they saw them at work or at starbucks. all them needs to STOP DROP AND ROLL, because u know what, if one of them was approached by them, they would be getting it poppin for real”

thing is, the fact that a woman’s physical/sexual attraction to a man seems to be so spell-boundingly arbitrary actually bodes well for most of us (men). even if you don’t rate high on the sheer looks scale, knowing that playing a guitar or commanding a room or even wearing a flattering pair of shades can increase your sexual value exponentially does alot for your sense of ambition and ego.

5. i know most of ya’ll don’t/won’t believe me, but i really had no idea that was lenny kravitz.

i literally just googled “black male hair” for pics, and his was on the first page. i figured he was an attractive brother, and he filled my light-n*gga quota, so i included him. sorry for ruining everyone’s “american woman” fantasy. try not to hold it against me. remember, i’m not a scientist.

    • I think it’s interesting that VSSs ranked #3 Bria Myles last and the VSBs ranked her first. I had no clue who this chick was and after a google search, it is apparent that her upper half is *ahem* different from her lower half. I just saw her pic and thought she was average. One of the commentors described her as a “dachshund with a wig,” and that I saw. I would say that the VSBs were blinded by the tatas but I think they deserve more credit than that. I guess they just saw something we didn’t.

Also, as one of the women who roasted the male pics, if one of those guys approached me correctly and seemed intelligent and interesting, yes I would be receptive. But that’s because attraction is based on more than face value. At face value, I didn’t think any of those guys were cute. Even #5 struck me as a little *fierce*.

This was interesting though. Great posts Champ! I’m sure you’ll have better luck with your next experiment ;)

      • That “dachshund in a wig,” comment yesterday was rude and uncalled for. They didn’t have to like her, but they didn’t need to be unnecessarily vicious to a woman they didn’t even know.

It’s not that the men weren’t “attractive”, the pictures of them weren’t attractive. All of the woman looked beautiful in their pics to me.

#2 (George Hill) was my favorite not only because he’s really cute but also for the fact that there were nude pictures of him. Unfortunately the good parts were blurred out and I’ve never seen the unedited versions LOL!

        BTW, I’m a guy and yes homo :D .

          • Why does it have to be awkward? I’m guessing you are new to this blog and the general attitude towards homosexuality. My post was in anticipation that you wouldn’t get anyone who would respond to the gist of your comment.

          • Like I said before I’M FINE. The problem is not me IT’S YOU and people like you. It honestly doesn’t need to be an issue unless YOU make it one.

            Good night sir.

          • @MW09,

You will probably not read this, unless you’ve got the ‘notify me of followup comments via e-mail’ box checked but your are totally misunderstanding my comments.

Which actually is a bit ironic since I was poking fun at the response you would get from the general audience here and actually have no issue at all with you.

        • @MW09
lol do you homes. And the dachshund comment was a lil rude, but I referenced it to say that I saw what that poster was talking about and couldn’t see what the guys were going gaga for. To each his own though.

        • Yup, the dachsund comment was borderline b!tchy… Then we are surprised when we are stereotyped as such *wet blanket over* :)

          • @sula exactly. first i dont think the instructions required a mofo to one explain why or 2 clown the pics the way they did.
yet at the same time when panama did a post where he rated chicks and did a similar thing, lots chicks was running around with their panties in bunch…

          • “first i dont think the instructions required a mofo to one explain why ”

Actually, Champ said he’d appreciate if we did. lol, just kiddin’ with ya shay-d-lady…

You make a good point here, though:

“yet at the same time when panama did a post where he rated chicks and did a similar thing, lots chicks was running around with their panties in bunch…”

Interesting turn of events…(by the way, I really wish I wasn’t lurking and ish when some of that stuff happened…I REALLY wish I wasn’t…lol)

      • “Even #5 struck me as a little *fierce*.”

I assumed all the women would see him that way adn that was why I had him rated last, too.

  1. I have a Lebron-sized announcement: I’m….um…..um….*clearsthroat* ‘Scuse me….I’m…not first.

    In other news:

What did The Champ gather from my rankings yesterday? That I’m nuts.

    • Clevelanders are NOT happy. Such a public and humiliating break-up there never was. Love don’t leave here anymore. Rose Royce.

      • I saw a kat on the news who was crying, and other folks were burning LeBron jerseys. It’s so not a game with the disappointment.

      • Yea its a sad day for the home team *tear*, my poor cleveland

BUT yay for ballin with D.Wade! Its gonna be so fun to watch bball again!

        • Lebron to Art Modell:

“Set check homie…I got it from here.”

That’s bascially what happened. I think Cleveland’s management is and always has been piss poor but the public diss of the city will make it damn near impossible for Lebron to get any love for the duration of his career in Ohio. We do not take lightly being broken up with on national tv and subsequently parading your new bitch around in our faces. No bueno dude!

      • BronBron dun messed up, now everyone is calling him the Scotty Pippen to Dwade’s Jordan. Smh

Mavs and Wizards 2011, we got this. lmao

Speaking on the rankings, I was way off on everything…I guess I have a unique eye. I thought number 3 was average too and if I had known from the jump that was YaYa, I would’ve put her as number one, but the angle threw me off. le sigh

    • Finally there is an end in sight to this whole Lebron-a-thon. I don’t give a what-what about basketball…bring on football season. Go Saints / Go Chiefs! Chiefs will win the Superbowl (maybe not this coming Superbowl, but…).

      • @Caballeroso..me and you are SOOOO here >>><<< on that one.

He gave the equivalent of his 2 weeks notice in a 1hr sponsored national tv special. He also quit on his own team in the playoffs.
i had respect for his ball skills. but now i have nothing but distain for him as a player and man. if it's heat/lakers in finals next year..imma be rooting for kobe (and i've been a kobe hater for years!!). that's just how serious it is. lol.

anyways, it's july and that sports season doesnt open til november. sooo.. #bringontheNFL.

        thanks,
        management.

          • OOPS so sorry about that..too quick on the trigger finger Keisha….Kobe…NEVER NEVER NEVER…I don’t give a rats a$$ what the fake KANG did I can’t go for Kobe..it can NEVER be that serious for me….I think LeBron just wants to go to Miami so he can do hoodrat stuff with his friends *shouts once again to Latarian , he’s a bad em effer….for a lil kid anyway

          • lol. @ bajan..
i know. it shouldnt be that serious, i am just so thoroughly disgusted right now.
\when MJ – THE MJ – was coming back, he sent a 2 word fax. period. full stop. he could have done ANYTHING he wanted. but didnt.
            no class. ferris bueller.

        • Yep Lebron #FAIL. He failed his team all the way in the playoffs. He is to blame for the loss this year. Yeah it takes a team but when your star fails to shine, it’s on him to rally the team and he didn’t.

          Peace, Love and Chocolate
          Tiffany

          • If he’s to blame, why did everyone want him to stay so badly? People just speaking out of anger and it’s not really fair to him.

          • @Carmie7373,

THANK YOU!!!! I am tired of people trying to give him the ego title (long claimed by Kobe)… He made the best decision for him and his career… Eff feelings of a city. And I am not even a Lebron fan.

(What I am though is a thorough Kobe despiser. Ugh.)

        • I tired to tell told ya’ll he was a bish when he didn’t shake hands and cried when he lost the year before and that he can’t be Kang James with no rangs…but naw! Now he just wanna smoke with cigarettes and beat down folks when they don’t buy him fried chicken.

Honestly, I don’t hate Bron Bron. I just find it hilarious that as a Lakers fan and after the Kobe haters, Bron Bron just did some bish made ‘ish that are making people dislike him.

    • You in the top 5 of people who posted first! No sad faces! Champagne (or non-alcoholic cider) for everyone! :)

  2. Floozies? For real? CTFU. Champie I can believe you didn’t know that was Lenny, I didn’t know that was Larry Foote, or Darelle Reavis, sad since I call myself a football fan.

  3. “(lets just say that it’s about time for a VSB intern)”

Ya see, I would apply, but I don’t wanna get in no e-scandal with Panda. o_O By the way, he didn’t inhale.

“”man idk what these floozies on the comment board talmbout, but those menfolk look attractive. each of those guys are men that most women would find attractive if they saw them at work or at starbucks. all them needs to STOP DROP AND ROLL, because u know what, if one of them was approached by them, they would be getting it poppin for real””

Yeah, about that. I kindly (if that’s possible) suggest that your buddy takes a hop on the Reading Rainbow with Levar Burton. Because, most — if not ALL — of the women were complaining about the PICTURES. That they weren’t doing them justice. Particularly Lenny Kravitz. In fact, a lot of VSSs specifically pointed out that they look better in other pics and/or in real life. Thus, DUH, of course it would be on and popping in real life. Lawd. *sigh* #cheekiethefloozieafterdark I love the word “floozie” by the way, so I do thank your friend for reminding me to use it in a sentence tomorrow.

    • @cheekie.
this post is why i love you. when the hell did i become a floozie?
and more importantly.. who told you??? lol.

no but for real, ‘beauty’ is in the high of the beholder. some chicks think lebron is good looking. since i think he’s an a$$, i wouldn’t be crossing the street to holla. now would i let him holla at me (just because he’s a millionaire, i’m supposed to find him cute?). there are chicks who put bank account status before face/body (aka anyone who’s ever let rick ross touch them. ewwww…).

i’ve lost my train of thought. lol

at the end of the day – this experiment wasn’t a bad one, it just wasn’t going to work the same way as it does in real life. i get where you were trying to go, but it got lost in translation. *insert drakeism here.

im gone like dan gilbert’s integrity.

    • Great. Splendid. Just PEACHY.

Now “floozie” is gonna be stuck in my head, along with “Girl, he’s a three” from the podcast theme (and PJ singin’ “…a plate o’ deeeeeeeeez).

      Fridays. Love ‘em.

      Friday floozies.

    • Cheeks, your obsession with Reading Rainbow is both funny and scary at the same time. lol

“Butterflies in the sky, I can go twice as high…”

    • Y’all were certainly harsh on those men….

It even made me ask who y’all dated… Like I probably need to hang out with you. :)

  4. Well, I didn’t recognize any of those folks (with the exception of Lenny and the husky dude).

What’s Amistad’s name? Is he famous, and after I slather his lips in olive oil, do you think he’ll mind if I plant a wet one on him?

    • NOT AMISTAD! LOL.

Yeah, he was number one on my list. All of his issues were imminently fixable. Get him a hair cut, a goatee and a tube of Carmex and he’s in there!

    • *DIES* @ “What’s Amistad’s name?”

      BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

      That’s the….*chokes laughing*….the ship. I love ya’ll.

(Djimon Hounsou, is his name, by the way. He is in my top 5 of “Best Names in the Entertainment Industry”)

  5. I think the men overwhelmingly picked #3 because they recognized her and knew what else she had going on down below. I cannot believe that she was, based just on face alone, the prettiest of the bunch.

LMBO at “floozies.” Huzzies, maybe, but not floozies.

    • Bria’s chocolate complexion put her ahead of the others. I did not recognize her originally. I would have preferred if Champ picked women who varied in appearance more. All the other women tied for second.

    • I didn’t even recognize her after I found out her name. I had to Google her to figure out who she is. I actually thought she was more attractive BEFORE I found out about her being widely recognized for her “assets”. Had I known that she was a video starlet she wouldn’t have gotten my number one spot…number 3 at best. Public image is a factor.

    • Judging by photos alone, she’d still be my first choice. She’s very pleasant-looking and that’s a quality I’m attracted too. She doesn’t seem overly-glammed up either. It’s kinda like how I would find a Nia Long-type more attractive than a Beyonce-type.

      • Nia Long would be the choice over Beyonce. I remember when I used to get flack for ranking Beyonce #3 in my rankings of the original Destiny’s Child lineup. LaTavia was #1, followed by LeToya.

    • I still don’t understand how a lot of the VSS’s think Bria doesn’t have an attractive face or is “average”…y’all must hang around A LOT of dimes, because if she’s average, I HAVE TO see what they consider drop-dead gorgeous! That’s crazy to me, but I guess it doesn’t surprise me. This test pretty much went as expected when it comes to what we (men) find attractive in women and what women think is attractive in women.

      Mars vs Venus

        • “So basically you didn’t see her cleeeve at all… at all? ”

Sure I did and that’s great, but I’m not really a breast guy, myself. I like them, but I’m much more a fan of the female anatomy from the waist down and neck up.

I personally think she has a pretty face. From the flow of opinions about her face, I must date some really average looking chicks…but that’s fine, too. I’ll take her. Ill Al Skratch

          • Akshone,

I don’t get it either. Bria Myles is uber cute in my opinion… Then again, I am always an outlier… Lenny was my first and Amistad (wkcite commenter above) my second… so what do you I know *shrug*

        • @Yeah…So…dayum girl you ain’t playin today…..side eyes & liars…..LMAO…..however I concur :-)

          • Yeah I had to strap on my cape and crime fight with the rest of y’all VSS’ against these posing @ss ninjas talmbout “I’m not really a breast guy”… *kissing teeth* but sey! lol… just lying- smh

    • I didn’t know that was Bria Myles. I just thought she was a pretty dark-skinned chick with a nice, sweet smile. The Bria Myles thing was a bonus.

    • I am surprised women are surprised… Men like girls who look “nice and safe”… Like #3 and #4… They look non-challenging… Girls with curls are often seen as wild-er or more unruly… (cue The Way we Were or Carrie vs Natasha)… It’s actually pretty classic.

    • OH MY GOD!!!! Lol I nv knew who this chick was. I ranked her 2nd to last yesterday. I kept thinking she was ALMOST perfect. Sexy chocolate complexion, nice hair, nice cleavage. The awkward disproportionate face is what through me off.

However, I have just google image Ms. Bria Myles and all I have to say is…. DAMN!!!! Those cheeks were specially crafted by the hands of God almighty. i change my mind. This woman was put at #1 for a damn good reason.

    • crap
i must be a dude because my pics for the women were pretty much the same as the guys’

i ranked em 43512 and the guys ranked them 34512, and i have no idea who any of those people are so based my rankings just on the photos used
i think number 3 is pretty, she has flaweless skin, nice eyes and a rather elfin face. i think its unfair to men and to the woman to say her ranking was due to her body or some other crap, thats sort of insulting

  6. lol, you were in way over your head on this one Champ. It is never fun having to process and tally hand written survey responses, especially with such a large pool of potential respondents. That’s why places got smart and started using those forms where you shade in the circles that can be read by a computer.

If it were me, I’d just have written my own cgi app to collect the responses and demographic info and auto tally that on the fly. Since I’ve not really delved that much into WordPress, I’m not sure if someone has already created a widget that can do that. Looking into that could save you some headache, not to mention having to explain to Geek Squad why your laptop keyboard smells of pee, if you were do do something like this again :)

    • I was tempted to suggest Survey Monkey for Champ, but didn’t know if VSB’s didn’t want to deflect traffic away from the blog. That said, Champ, I liked the experiment. It was fun and I like the idea. Wouldn’t mind if you did it again. Plus, sometimes an experimental error is part of the scientific process, right?

*shrug* Scientist or no scientist, I liked it, doe!

    • “Since I’ve not really delved that much into WordPress, I’m not sure if someone has already created a widget that can do that.”

I don’t know what version the champ has but I believe Liz did his customization… but I am too lazy to check the version.

I went to a WordPress conference for the debut of 3.0 and I do believe that there are several level of polling functionality that might have worked. It’s kinda of a standard feature for most blogs nowadays.

I would have just put up a link to surveymonkey and set up the ranking there and announced at regular intervals or the next day. Survey monkey can be a pain but I wonder if it would be less than having to tally in excel.

But that too has it’s downside… I wonder if as many people would have responded if they had to do the separate registration.

      Just my thoughts ~JS

  7. Bria (#3), might have had an unfair advantage because most of the men knew exactly what the rest of her looks like. But I cant help but wonder if the Bria’s dark skin and the presupposition of colorism among black men had anything to do with her dead last finish among the women. (runs for cover)

    • That is interesting. She was #2 for me because I loved her dark skin tone and the smoothness of it. I had to get confirmation to see if it was Bria Myles at first anyway. I just thought she was pretty before that anyway.

    • I didn’t even recognize her after I found out her name. I had to Google her to figure out who she is. I actually thought she was more attractive BEFORE I found out about her being widely recognized for her “assets”. Had I known that she was a video starlet she wouldn’t have gotten my number one spot…I’d have picked her as my number 3 choice at best. Public image is a factor.

      • She was my number 3 choice because I thought she wasn’t as unique as the other two I put first, but she was pretty nonetheless.

And I’m a female, but I respect the boobs. No lesbo!

        • I don’t think men value unique as much as women. Sweet is much higher on most VSBs lists, and her smile said sweet.
The pics on the web do not.

          • Thank you this gives me clarity. I thought me like unique standouts, not pretty “plain janesgirl next door” types. Guess I was wrong. **kanye shrug**

        • Exactly. She is a pretty girl. And the boobage helps!

I just thought the first 2 were more “unique” looking… But you can’t argue with Brya’s beautiful skin.

    • “Bria (#3), might have had an unfair advantage because most of the men knew exactly what the rest of her looks like.”

But the women knew what Lenny K looked like and they could have googled those other dudes with ease to get multiple pics (which some of them did). They knew the two “winners” were athletes. What’s the difference?

    • I just had to de-lurk to make a comment on this.
I was going to de-lurk yesterday but honestly I felt a bit of…. je nais se quoi, about the lack of dark skinned girls in the tally in commarison to the 3 light skinned and 1 I dunno if she is dark skinned in real life but in that picture YaYa looked light to me.
I just didn’t feel that was … *shrugs* at lack of PC wording. But yea it just rubbed me wrong some how.

I also felt as if the VSS’s we set on not picking the dark skinned girl. I mean she was cute, def not number one in my books, but definately not last and definatly not worthy of the comments she was getting. But then again maybe I am giving her dark skinned points (seeing as not many ppl seem to do that #shotsfired)
Anyways I will admit it was a shock that so many VSBs picked her first, you get breed to believe that the light skinned girl will get extra points on account of them being light skinned. And i have seen it with my own eyes. One of my best friends is mixed, she is gorgeous IMHO but I have seem men just see her light skin and curly hair from behind and drop everything to talk to her, or pull up in thier cars and run up to talk to her. And when she is not there other of my beautiful dark skinned friend gets all the attention. As soon as mixed sister is there, the men don’t even notice my other friend.
And we travel on vacation a lot so I am talking about experience from Canadain Black men, American Black men, Caribbean black men…

Sooo after that long a$$ story and analysis *self depreciating smile* my conclusion is that it was suprising to see the men give the chocolate sister so much love and the women to not.

      • @KeepingitReal

Sooner or later y’all are gonna figure out that it’s about the “hotness” and not about the “color”…

Does it happen…sure, but I still haven’t EVER heard of a brotha passing up a hot chocolate woman for a less attractive light-skinned one and if so, it wasn’t due to the complextion.

At the end of the day, fine is fine and ugly writes books on inner beauty (no shots).

      • “the lack of dark skinned girls in the tally in commarison to the 3 light skinned and 1 I dunno if she is dark skinned in real life but in that picture YaYa looked light to me.”

Being a midrange colored sista myself I think that Jahmar’s quote:
“What we perceive shouldn’t be confused with the absolute truth.”… is really on point.

Whether I am light or brown skinned is in the eye of the beholder.

I looked at the pictures and I saw archetypes not color… and Bria was last on my list because in that picture she looked kinda young and sweet like someone’s little sister regardless of cleavage.

I think that champ did a good job of covering the range of skin tones within 5 photos but I suspect he chose the pictures he chose for a vibe that would be perceived differently by vss and vsb.

        True champ ain’t no scientist… but the selections weren’t a fail ~JS

    • Neither I nor any of my friends are colorstruck, so I never really understood the whole light-skinned=better thing. *shrugs*
Her skin actually gave her some points with me. I think the whole light-skin/dark-skin complex really isn’t as bad as we have been led to believe in the black American community. However, this is merely my own personal experience from my linear view of the world. What we perceive shouldn’t be confused with the absolute truth.

      • What we perceive shouldn’t be confused with the absolute truth.

        That’ll make a nice inspirational card. :)

      • I think the light/dark thing is out dated, now it’s a sistas vs “imports” as my lil cousin so affectionately refers to the women that “look like they got sumpin in em” or are from the southern hemisphere.

  8. “i figured he was an attractive brother, and he filled my light-n*gga quota, so i included him.”

Ur kidding right?? cus there is only one brother and one sister that are clearly on end of color spectrum. The other eight were relatively close in the light-brown section.

Anyway, this was a great post. I hope you do another one soon, it really brought out alot of lurkers. That’s a good thing.

P.S. I’m also happy Bria Myles yesterdays #3 being number one. I Iove that dark skin tone and she have cute face, then I looked he put on Google………*sniff* it was beautiful

P.S.S Lebron, no only did you waste a half-hour talking about your past, but you told everyone you would be leaving for Miami at the Boys&Girls Club in front of kids that were your fans. That’s low

    • Ummm, that Boys & Girls Club was in Conneticut. So if those kids were fans of Lebron in Cleveland they’ll still be fans of his in Miami.

    • P.S. I’m also happy Bria Myles yesterdays #3 being number one. I Iove that dark skin tone and she have cute face, then I looked he put on Google………*sniff* it was beautiful

      It was beautiful, wasn’t it?

    • @ Mr. Gundam “Ur kidding right?? cus there is only one brother and one sister that are clearly on end of color spectrum. The other eight were relatively close in the light-brown section. ”

That’s exactly what I was saying up-thread. Like where were the dark skinned to medium skinned representation??

I mean I am attracted to all colors I am sure, but something about that just put me off. I could have rated them, but then it would have been skewed because I would have been giving dark-skinned points to compensate.

I am medium toned myself and I honestly didn’t know there was a light skinned priviledge until a couple of years ago when I started reading american blogs and stories etc (I’m from Canada) and i got my head out of my a$$ (cuz apparently this internal divide is every where in the world even in the mother land where I am originally from) to me we were just all black in a dispora and in a struggle together, I didn’t realize we had an internal color struggle.
But now I am aware of it I just want people to give dark skinned sisters the same chance as light skinned sisters. If she is clearly better looking then cool, but don’t just give her points cuz she is lighter skinned. *shrugs*
Buuuut I also accept that a lot of times it can be preference. I mean I prefer taller men, but then again is my preference based on a social construct that I am no longer aware off? (aka a man taller than you is more manly, more able to protect you, more of the image of what a man and woman should look like when standing next to each other…) Idk.

      • It was just a simple experiment really… Pretty is pretty, whether dark, yellow, bronze or purple…. It really isn’t that big a deal.

And, oh, just so we are clear, I am extremely dark skinned.

HAHA..Your friends statements are hilarious and totally true. I thought all the men were attractive, some extremely so. The women on the otherhand, I found to be just regular ole attractive, which made it more difficult to rank (though picking the most attractive and the least attractive was fairly easy).

  10. Regarding the results, for the women, it was pretty obvious who would be first. You see Champ, you tried to craft the experiment as one of pure rating on attractiveness. However, the separate instructions for the men ranking showed you considered that there would be some other issues that could crop up given your readership. One other thing you forgot was the skin color (or shade). As essentially the only dark skinned woman on the list, #3 was the automatic first choice, whether she truly ranked 1st or not.

For the men, you had two. So, my expectation was that people would use one of them to essentially give them cover for highly ranking the lighter skinned guys. That being said, #1 was the obvious last place. I was surprised that you didn’t predict that. I’d be interested in reading more about the reasoning behind your predictions of what our answers would be.

Another interesting thing would be to see what would happen if you conducted this exact test where the respondents were going to essentially be just 2520s and again where respondents were drawn from a more mixed group.

  11. I still can’t believe my new crush and far and away #1 Tanika Ray is getting murked like this. Am I the only dude who likes natural-curly-fro-thingy amalgamations on a cute face?!

    • “Am I the only dude who likes natural-curly-fro-thingy amalgamations on a cute face?!”

No; I am shocked that she did so poorly (she got a lot of hate for looking “old”) and plain-Jane light-skinned business-suit chick did so well.

      • So I IMDB’d her and she is relatively “old”. She is 38. But God I hope that my future wife ages that gracefully and looks that desirable in her “advanced” years. Vanessa Williams.

Now that I know she’s that “old”, it’s even more of a blowout for me. If she’s at an age disadvantage and still bangin like that, she should get extra points.

      • plain-Jane light-skinned business-suit chick did so wel

That’s what shocked me the most! She looked so boring. :)

I mean for the men it didn’t surprise me, but from the ladies it did a little… I guess if I had any doubt, now I don’t: I truly am an outlier.

        • uhhh, not sure what was so shocking about that. I pretty much ranked according to which were most relative to me, because I’m pretty darn vain, I guess. Beauty comes in great deal of variety. None of them were hit, so it really just depended upon personal taste. 5/half face, most made me think of me…color, hair(mine isn’t like that, but I loved it), clean, simple, eating fruit, and laughing…heartily. Boring suit made me think of how I present myself in professional environments. Already cute, so you can’t do too much or you won’t be taken seriously as the men folk get distracted. They represented a combo of me. I kinda assume, most women being fairly vain, I’m not the only one who voted the folks who most resemble themselves/style, or vibe/personality. Yaya on the other hand, with so many recalling her on ANTM, i thought they would recall her skin, which was a problem, along with her attitude, pretentious/self-rightous, and she looked pretty plain jane to me as well. Cute, but yeah, in the girl next door, who always gets put in the friend category, kinda way. Let me reiterate, it was not a blow out by any, all relatively the same level of attractiveness, just a matter of taste.

    • Dude, I said it once, and I’ll say it again. When I get in the mood to go back natural, that is how I want my hair to look. AND that particular color she had in the picture. I’d probably just use a rinse though, because I’m a punk. But, I ain’t never scared.

Guess how much sense that made?

    • I think the makeup didn’t help her much… She was my #2 though. I think she is too cute and has personality for days.

  12. Okay. All of you reaching from this number one comment spot are kiling me. :)

feel the urge to pee on the screen

Really? Not an urge to throw the screen, throw something AT the screen or beat it with a steel bat but pee on it?? LOL! Wow.

Interesting results. I wondered how/if the numbers would get tallied… looked like a lot of work.

    • “Okay. All of you reaching from this number one comment spot are kiling me.”

      Don’t die!

But it is pretty hysterical how it’s become like the World Cup, blogger edition.

I think I can put this in perspective whilst gettin’ my devil’s advocate on… cause I don’t disagree with sis.

See Stacy Dash ain’t neva got to worry about me… she’s foine… and that is an universally held opinion with no qualifiers… like for her age. Mimi

    She is just foine.

Don’t get it twisted… I am cute as h*ll, funny as sh*t, smarter than a mother f*cker, and I got a red cup trick insured by the Lords of London.

    But I ain’t foine.

What you witnessed is what my girl Ntozake Shange called a woman’s trip… see our earliest memory is someone praising our looks… or not.

Walking through life as a woman you learn early the power of beauty and what your number is and why… and you adapt and adjust.

Then one day you wonder into a blog where someone hands you the power to judge as you have been… all your life.

Oh that sh*t is so on.

It’s just revenge for every sista that sat through Boomerang with their toes curled up in their shoes laughing when Eddie skeeted and fled cause a sista didn’t have her pedicure game tight.

    Payback is a mofo.

Like I said I agree with sis… but I understand all the very smart sistas who let dem menfolk have it.

I guess they have had IT.

And on a final side note… you not knowing that was Lenny proves you are REALLY straight ~JS

  14. It’s a C-O-N spiracy!

VSB’s please explain to me why #3 was ranked first? Is it really true that a bangin’ body trumps a pretty face?
When it comes to picking a woman you would want to procreate with (preferably within the confines of marriage), would you still have chosen #3?
Very rarely do I see highly compensated VSB’s married to ladies who resemble #3.

      • i agree that bria is pretty in the face. but it’s a saaaaaaaaaaad day in manville when a “bangin body” trumps a pretty face.

*pops in billy blanks dvd, while crying*

        • To be honest there is nothing truly exceptional about a pretty face, or hair for that matter. I have never had a positive double-take reaction to a face. A great body on the other hand has never ended my life multiple times. There are women who I work with who I do not know what their faces look like, but I am familiar with their curves.

          • um…..this really makes me sad………….sad! sad :(
i think because it makes the whole thing where men get older and become more attracted to younger women thing make sense. which is sad, because everybody gets older :(
i actually get a pretty good amount of attention regarding my body, but it makes me uncomfortable and i don’t appreciate it as much as a facial compliment, or even a personality related compliment. i guess because it’s only so long before the curves become just one big round, saggy curve and i get pushed to the sidelines of life. life makes me sad. men make me saaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. that’s why i need to trap one long before gravity and life happen to me

okay, let me roll up my wet blanket and take my a*s home. lol

          • As a woman, I will never understand this. I love biceps and a 6 pack but your face has to trump it all. As we know, a woman’s body can go to hell in a hand basket quicker than Clev fans started burning their LeBron jerseys after the “decision”. So why value something that has a low shelf-life? However a pretty face tends to stick around a lot longer…usually.

Personally, I would rather have a 8 face with a 4 body than the other way around. I can dress you up to avoid displaying your moobs but I can’t cover that trifling mug. No masquerade.

          • @bougiefruit Faces fall of the map just as quickly as bodies. Women who live an active life have bodies that last well into their 50s. A pretty face on a BMW(Body Made Wrong) is worse than a mediocre face on a stallion.

          • @Dash, as we can see from the comments men and women have different attractiveness measures. So with your comment, first thing I thought was that’s true if she has an active life. But what if she doesn’t go to the gym and has children. Most likely her face will still be pretty (slightly more worn out but still attractive) but her body might be more doughy than Pillsbury. My point is that face tends not to fluctuate as much as the body. Something about a strong-faced woman with a nice body disturbs me…

          • @bougiefruit
“As a woman, I will never understand this. I love biceps and a 6 pack but your face has to trump it all.”

I agree wholeheartedly. and even face alone, I still don’t think Bria was the prettiest–regardless of her complexion.

I guess women and men just won’t see eye to eye on this “looks” thing.

          • I honestly thought the Bria high ranking was partly because folks recognized her, like Yaya was recognized by some of the ladies despite it not being her best photo, and because the picture had more skin. No other pic of the women showed cleavage or the body as much as Bria’s (suit chick was wrapped up) and even then it didn’t show the lower half that some brothers knew she was packing. In my experience and knowledge of some men being very visual, a lil skin increases the appeal. I know when I have gone out, everything might be the same but I might get more attention if my top is sleeveless instead of having sleeves. I have even gone into bars with my friends during the winter with a coat that showcases a figure, but get a second glance when I take the coat off. Anybody can see it’s the same person and body (in fact some brothers got x-ray gaze and can tell when a sistah’ got body no matter how hard she might camouflage it) , but sometimes a lil more skin (I ain’t talkin’ about h*e ‘ish) makes a difference. I wonder if the rating would have been the same amongst the VSB’s that didn’t recognize Bria if she had a trench coat on, buttoned, and belted.

          • Funny thing is that the only person I recognized when I voted was Lenny. I didn’t realize it was Yaya until after I made my choices and I had never heard of Bria. Matter of fact, every time I see Yaya, I’m always shunned at how beautiful then I look her up and be like “Oh yeah”. I do agree it wasn’t Yaya’s best pic but I could tell how she would have looked had she not been cheezin extra hard (same for #4 if she had done something to her head and got out that frumpy suit). I couldn’t really mentally jazz up Bria. Even other pics on Google didn’t really jazz her up (face-wise anyway).

          • I was so surprised to learn this not too long ago. I used to use the “I can’t work out that much cause then my head will be a mess all week” excuse. Followed by “but I have a cute face, which still keeps me ranked pretty high”…turns out I was depriving the world and myself. Crazy thing is, I started working out 6 days a week and going natural at the same time. I thought there would be an adverse reaction to my appearance, sweaty , in work out clothes, pony with 3 inches of new growth and no make, but the opposite happened. despite the fact that from the neck was a fail imo, being more toned seemed to increase my attractiveness to the opposite sex exponentially. Now, that is not always a good thing. Physical attraction attracts ALLLL types…GQ to Anton Jackson, pickle jar in hand. lol.

IMHO, at the end of the day, this isn’t a tell-tale sign of who we settle down with. Ta-Tas turn to tear drops, arses turn to flab. Pecs turn to man boobs, and guns turn to bye-byes. better have something else.

side-note, I have come out of the closet today and just can’t seem to shut my mouf! Happy Friday ev’rybody!

        • “but it’s a saaaaaaaaaaad day in manville when a “bangin body” trumps a pretty face. ”

Yeah, I like to think that God made a butterface’s body on Monday and the face on Sunday.

      • I disagree, I disagree homeboy! # I forget the name of the movie.

Anyway, a bangin body is more temporary than a pretty face (or beautiful hair). You can, suck and tuck and body magic your way into a good looking body but a TRULY pretty face never leaves. See Lena Horne

Also, a bangin body is not something that is duplicated in the off spring. Nobody comes up to the 3 year old little girl and says “Bornwatricia (real name) you sure got a fine developing little apple back there”. Bangin bodies are most often temporary #Tyra Banks

    • “VSB’s please explain to me why #3 was ranked first? Is it really true that a bangin’ body trumps a pretty face?

I know a dot com millionaire… who got out in time… married an innocent looking, average cute chick with a big old booty.

He met her while she was working at Wal-Mart… maybe its a midwest thing

I learned two valuable lessons from this:

      1. I must do more squats
      2. Men value different things than women ~JS

      • Ok I just googled Bria Myles and I have to say that brought her down in my ranking. I mean I get guys like the big booty, but she was #3 on my list for having a cute face and having that girl next door quality I know guys really like (even if they spend a few years chasing those “other” girls) neither of which cane across on any of her pics on her site.

      • regarding your number #1: hello! i just started doin squats and i feel pretty darn good about it! aow!!!!!!!!!

and regarding your number #2: yes, they surely do. and it makes NO sense to me. bastids.

and plus, why the hell am i buying all this mascara and lip gloss and keepin my hair fly? according to dash, they don’t give a damn about that. i mean, i’m going to continue to do so, but ain’t that just a kick in the head? #bitter.
i may stop getting manicures, though. i was already feeling like that was a waste of time and money, but i wanted my hands to be presentable. well if a face doesn’t matter, damn a cuticle! i mean, that’s how i really feel about it now.

        • yes girl! squats are a good move. the elliptical got my situation kinda on point too. #heretohelp.

and right about the the hair and makeup. good thing I do those things for ME. I ain’t studyin’ Dash, most men I know don’t think like that. keep on looking your best for YOU.

          • Tis true.

The only thing I figure, is Dash is talking about dating/smash & dash, but when it comes to rings and things— she needs to channel Jayne Kennedy.

            Bond.

        • “and plus, why the hell am i buying all this mascara and lip gloss and keepin my hair fly? according to dash, they don’t give a damn about that. i mean, i’m going to continue to do so, but ain’t that just a kick in the head? #bitter.”

If you keep your make up game simple it creates the illusion that we roll out of be looking that way… ~JS

      • I have cousins with booties the size of Bria Myles… In fact, one has a booty bigger than Bria with the same waist size. They are both married to intelligent, well off men… And they are both intelligent and upstanding citizens…

Since when a big booty qualifies as a strike against intelligence and/or means anything at all?

I hear this often and it really does bother me…

        • sighing deeply in agreement with- “I hear this often and it really does bother me…”…me too

        • @Sula

“I have cousins with booties the size of Bria Myles… In fact, one has a booty bigger than Bria with the same waist size.”

If you have anymore of these cousins, friends, associates etc. please send them my way.

The big booties and bad attitudes can be synonomous. A lot of women with bodies but ugly faces suffer from princess syndrome. Some men treat them the same as the pretty girl.

        • “I have cousins with booties the size of Bria Myles… In fact, one has a booty bigger than Bria with the same waist size. ”

If she’s doing anything special to achieve this outside of benefitting from God’s natural gift, I’mma need her number for a different reason than the VSBs….lol

          • @Cheekie

You can’t get a donk. Do you think you could handle that type of power? I don’t think you would know how to act if you had donk.

          • @Humble_One,

The cheeks I have are just fine, not just of Bria’s um…ability. And naw, I wouldn’t know how to act. No one with a donk like that knows how to act. Duh.

          • “If she’s doing anything special to achieve this outside of benefitting from God’s natural gift, I’mma need her number for a different reason than the VSBs….lol”

            lol… I second this motion… ~JS

    • I didn’t rank her first (she was tied for second with or slightly behind Tanika Ray, based on the pics given), but I don’t think that she’s weak in the face. I just think that women are more rigidly colorstruck about other women than men, by which I mean that the average dude, even with societal preferences for lighter-skinned women, knows a bad chick of any complexion when he sees one. All the talk from women about how they can’t see how Bria could have been first, I think, is really a reflection of the belief that no one can understand why it wasn’t a runaway win for the lightest-skinned pic.

As for face/body, I wouldn’t agree with Dash that body “trumps” face. I love a pretty face. But an 7-8 face (and Bria is a good 8-8.5 at least) with a 9-10 body (Bria is at least a 12) most definitely trumps a 9-10 face with 5-6 body.

      • “As for face/body, I wouldn’t agree with Dash that body “trumps” face. I love a pretty face. But an 7-8 face (and Bria is a good 8-8.5 at least) with a 9-10 body (Bria is at least a 12) most definitely trumps a 9-10 face with 5-6 body.”

okay, this i can get with. in fact, it doesn’t make me sad at all.

      • I mean that the average dude, even with societal preferences for lighter-skinned women, knows a bad chick of any complexion when he sees one

        As simple as that.

    • Bria has a prettier face compared to the others to me. Body has nothing to do with it. From the photo used, I would presume that she’d be friendlier and more inviting also.

        • Heyll naw we don’t hear dat isht… y’all are so gullable you don’t even know when you’re being hoodwinked, bamboozled, etc(I can’t think of the rest)… trust me, if every chik had the same pose and outfit the tune y’all singing would be different. World.

And for the record I have nothing against the girl, I too think she’s cute but the bs must end TODAY!. Matt Lauer.

          • So to put this in a nutshell, you as a woman are telling us as men, what we like? Even though we told you what we like?

So you just gonna tell us what we like, huh? Ike Turner.

          • @AkShOnE
“So you just gonna tell us what we like, huh?”
yes. Now eat the cake *shrug*…

Ok wait… not you telling what you like but the fact is there’s more sex triggers in her photo than the others ie. boobies and such… put her @ss in a turtle neck and have the same feelings… THEN I would have nothing to say.

        • “They don’t hear you, tho…”

Because before the VSSs called ya’ll out, there was nothing to hear. None of ya’ll was saying sh*t about her face ’til after the fact. But, *shrug* I believe ya (like I said, I’ll never understand why men and women see attractiveness differently, and it ain’t meant for me to). Just realize why you got the “o_O” in the first place. :)

        • Panda and The Champ have said this over and over again…

It’s that chick’s logic that often gets in the way. :)

    • Let it go, bruh…just let it go (besides, Kenya would’ve totally skewed the results of this survey, w/ her fine a$$)

    • For real, bruh. Throwing a former Miss America that looks like she could win it again right now, would be unfair.

    • yeah, kenya would pretty much throw the whole competition. and then everybody who ranked her below, like, a 2 would be getting side-eyes all around. too much drama.

    • *Stunting on*

Jus wanna add… I had the opportunity to meet/dance/two step with Kenya Moore in Miami a couple of weeks ago while down there for the Black Film Festival….#onelessthingcrossedoffBucketList

She is definitely banging but more importantly down to earth and chill. I danced and dipped before I embarrassed myself….

On 6/25/10 Club Cameo on Collins drive became a historical landmark….lol

      *Stunting off*

  15. yesterday’s male #1 was ugly. i couldn’t even deal with rankin because he ruined the whole experience.

um…i am disheartened that the men have no love for tanika ray? what, yall didn’t watch the basketball wives reunion (#sarcasm). she’s cute!

but back to the male #1. i’m gonna need him to pay a visit to dr. smigel and get some supersmile. and, champ, i love how you picked the fugliest pictures of yaya and lenny. i believe you when you say you didn’t recognize them. hell, they barely did, i’m sure. lol

    • Uhhh..what you talkin bout!!

Male #1 (ha..what is name?) is HOT. Granted, he needs some grooming, but best believe under all that scruff is big yummy deliciousness. I mean am I the only one that sees the potential?

      • I find it interesting how often I hear women disqualifying a dude because of something that is minor, miniscule, or easily fixed. It’s as if no one sees beyond the obvious to see a person’s potential. If he doesn’t have it going on on day one then it’s on to the next one and this one’s simply disqualified. Somebody excluded one of the dudes saying he had ashy lips or something like that. In my own circles I heard a lady say a dude approached her, but she couldn’t go for it because his shoe heals were worn. If that is how black women are choosing their significant others, then I don’t think we need CNN to tell us why so many black women are single. I’m glad to see that there are some who see potential.

        • he’s just not cute. ashy lips i can get past. well, unless they’re chronically ashy, because suggests a character flaw. (um….lol) but i was honestly surprised to find #1 ranking as the #1 on anybody’s list. but, then, he’s just not my physical type period. he reminds me of ed hartwell, who i know alot of women find gorgeous. but i can’t get into him at all either. like, not at all.

        • I’d agree with you if this poll was about the mid dateable dude or who would you pick as a mate…we’d need more info…but this poll was based on looks. Not potential, not personality or overall likeableness.

          • …but doesn’t looks, appeal, or attractiveness play a role in who you would date? Perhaps this points out another fundamental difference in the way men and women evaluate a potential S.O.

        • I’m going to pretend like I didn’t read the single women reference, lol.

I’m not sure if you saw my ranking, but I did mention his scruffiness as a reason I dropped his rank to 2nd place: his scruff seemed to be of the “I didn’t care today” rather than the “This is me on my regular” variety. It gave me pause, but that is all. Not a deal breaker and is something I would ignore if he were to speak to me in real life (mentioned his teeth too, but I should have said it surprised me because it seemed like something he would fix. It didn’t translate to me liking him less, but made me go “hmm”). Notice Lenny Kravitz also does the scruffy thing, but you can tell it’s his normal because he didn’t have a goatee showing as #1. I still like #1 over Lenny though. :)

I get what you’re saying, deal breakers shouldn’t be something you can fix with a 99 cent stick of cocoa butter.

      • He was my number 4… But I’ll say he looks fine. I like the scruffiness…

Number 2 was a WHOLE other story. Ugh… the sleazy eyes. Yuck.

      • Reasons #1 was attractive:
1.) He looked like some sort of athlete, so the body was probably on point
2.) He had a nice smile and none of his teeth looked like they were trying to escape his mouth.
3.) He wasn’t super close-shaven and wearing designer clothes like some sort of poodle pretty boy.
        4.) He looked like a laid-back, fun-time-having guy.
5.) I don’t know for sure (and I don’t know who he is), but he looks tall. And I love a tall dude. :)

  16. also, can we do this again real soon? i mean, i didn’t participate yesterday, but that’s just because all the men were ugly. and because you told us the answer before we even started.
but, in general, i love this idea. lol

  17. I didn’t know that was Bria Myles. I simply saw an attractive dark skinned woman with some cleavage on deck. She had that girl next door thing workin too.

Now, if Champ had had a full body pic of Ms. Myles… you would have to disregard all male responses b/c that booty is a gift from above. *Praise dance*

As far as you being a scientist, well…all scientists do is make a guess and then test it over and over and over again. It’s not that they are right it’s just they are eliminating more variables and getting closer to being right.

  18. Naw son. the last dude I ranked on my list would not get a double take from me. I don’t care how long it’s been. He is not cute, and he looks ashy.

I didn’t realize that was bria myles. she still ranked last on my list tho lol. i was wondering why P had her first. i think a lot of these people came with a bit of hype behind their faces, and I think it would have been better to have mug-shot looking pics to fairly and evenly assess everyone. Clearly the guy holding the basketball is some kind of baller so he’s gonna “look” cuter than if he were the club bouncer guy. wink wink.

  19. It’s funny that yesterday women picked that jacked up photo of Lenny Kravitz, since we knew what he normally looked like, likewise with the men and Bria Myles. I think this would have been interesting to do with people you might have a hard time being able to judge objectively based on looks, eg Kat Stacks.

  20. I just submitted my rankings as well as my opinions of the overall commentary of the other posters in the previous post.

I will say that the whole experiment was very well done and extremely eye opening.

It goes to show you that in the U.S. (and most of the western world), skin color/race is intertwined with perceptions of attractiveness and worth.

In expansion, it also shows that African American women are more color conscious than their male counterparts. They probably assume that a “dark skinned” (which the majority of AAs are, right?) a/k/a traditional black woman isn’t good enough hence why they believed she would finish last with the men. They themselves think that light skin is better. They project these ideas onto men.

In my many experiences and observations, all over the land, most AA men seemed more concerned with body and a woman’s accessibility than her facial attributes. Their female counterparts were far more concerned with skin color, etc. Many will deny but this was the consistent pattern.

So Bria was the natural choice. She had a killer body w/ the pretty face and as I noted in my comment in the previous post, she has that girl-next-door, down-to-earth aura. She’s realistic. Attainable.

But overall, great experiment. Although, it would be nice if people could open their minds and seperate their hang-ups about racial appearance from assessing someone’s beauty or value. (i.e. “light nigga quota”; “chocolate man”; “Amistad”…ick)

But in a country where race and color mean everything, can you?

    • @mynameismyname
      “…she(Bria) has that girl-next-door, down-to-earth aura. She’s realistic. Attainable.”

Man, are you high? Bria Myles ‘realistic’?.. ‘Attainable’? To who?
Her face may say ‘girl-next-door, down to earth’, but the rest of her is saying, “n*gga please, you wish you could attain deez”.

Please let me know what you’re smoking & who you bought it from, so i know NOT to go to there, cuz that sh*t is obviously tainted. Champs survey.

      • The VSS’s instructions weren’t to rank the woman based on who they thought the men would be attracted to, it was to rank the women based on who they believed were the most attractive. And as the results show, Ya-Ya came in first for the VSSs. By no stretch of the imagination is Ya-Ya considered “light-skinned”.

I personally think tnat Bria Myles came in last with the VSSs because well… she’s average-looking. While her complexion was stunning and her smile was pretty, there was nothing exceptional about her face. Ranking her last had nothing to do with her being dark-skinned (and after googling her, I felt like the pic Champ posted did her face some justice!).

I think the VSBs were most defininately tainted by the figure of Ms. Myles. However, in a previous post I recall (when the discussion of Drake’s “friend” and her gold pants were the topic), many VSBs saying that while they admired a figure like Bria’s, they wouldn’t necessarily date someone like that seriously because she was “one cheeseburger away from disaster”.

        • You find Bria average looking?

So, you’re saying the average woman is as attractive as her? Really? Do you personally think that you look better than her? (No disrespect, just curious).

Again, I feel that the black women are slamming her because in their mind she looks like “a regular black girl” and of course, that can’t be as good as a non-black woman or a woman who looks “less black”. Right? Be real.

This post proves that race means EVERYTHING when it comes to judging attractiveness.

          • I’m sorry I have to call bullshyte on the whole race thing cause #1, they were all Black so, ummmm that ends that, as far as attractiveness equating to color, I don’t buy that , attractiveness to me anyway includes a whole lot of ish, sure color may be a part of it for some, however….I ain’t buying it on this …just my thoughts

          • I COMPLETELY disagree. I was actually upset that the only dark-skinned girl was her. Her demeanor put her last. Even old girl with the covered face was one up on her. The other 4 looked confident and happy. Bria looked like she was low-esteem girl. Also, over the years I hear that women dressed up for other women. We care more about how we look to women than to men, which I realize is very true. Everyone else looked dressed up with cute makeup (maybe Yaya overdid it) but she looked like she was heading to Wal-Mart to get more Frosted Flakes.

And #3 male, also at the end of my list. P!ssed again for the dark-skinneded folks. He looked perpetually dry. I felt like if I was with him all I could focus on was how much Vaseline it would take to get him back to proper moisture level.

          • If I may interject here… I dont think that VSSs were against Bria Myles’ darkskinnededness… There are plenty of brownskinned/darker skinned women that I’m sure most VSSs here would say are attractive – Iman, Naomi Campbell (well if you look past her uber-stankness), Gabrielle Union, Kenya Moore, Nia Long, etc. But like someone said upthread, she is not exceptional in the face. Cute, nice complexion, sure, but not exceptional.

          • Maybe you should say skin complexition instead of race. I see where you are going though.

And the Bria girl. I had no clue who she was and was VERY surprised that she got the #1 rank. She’s not ugly or plain, I just didn’t think she would be voted #1 by the men (possibly because she did look a little average) After reading all the posts, I see why VSB ranked her #1 which means the experiment was lost.

    • I call bullsh!t. With the guys I just happen not to like messed up teeth so #1 was out for me and guys who look like they spend hours grooming and I hate guys in jewelery so 5 was out for me. Color had nothing to do with my choices for the men.

For the ladies they were all relatively attractive but I think the VSS the darkest girl was dead last for me because I found her to be boring. The light skinned girl in the suit bored me to tears too and like I said in my comment, they were interchangable for me. I am pretty sure most of the VSS felt the same way about the darkest girl. And most of the VSS picked Yaya first and she is not light skinned so that blows your theory out of the water.

  21. Re: Bria Myles’ Picture

Boy did i feel embarrassed after i googled “Bria Myles” yesterday.
My first reaction: Oh sh*t, IT has a face?!!?
Quite a surprising day for me as you can imagine.

Sure, Im familiar w/ her work. But up until 5pm yesterday, i really had no idea “Hips Thighs & A$$”(or Bria Myles as you all call it) had an actual name, torso or head.

She has that blackout effect. Meaning, that when one looks at a picture of her, your eyes immediately zero in on the @$$ and blacks out everything else.
Her a$$ is her existence. Her mouth and eyes only function is to feed her @ss and help it see where its going.
I wouldnt be surprised if her brain was located in her @ss & that the head is just there for decoration.I think i will call her Crang.

TMNT for those that dont get the reference.

  22. too drunk to leave a coherent comment.
i always knew this would happen.
i get the notification e-mail at 2ish Central Time; that’s when the club letteth out.
y’all were doing empirical shit and i missed it. damn.

  23. I didn’t recognize any of the chicks yesterday…and I didn’t recognize it was Lenny Kravitz yesterday until I read the comments…

As far as #3… dayum, dayum, dayum,…I didn’t know she was Ms Fat Booty reincarnate. Contrary to what I thought, she doesn’t need that much encouragement…

I knew men and women had a different idea of what beauty is, but I didn’t think it differed that much…I’m don’t tell a woman she’s beautiful unless I actually mean it, and this sheds some light on the mental gymnastics that some women go through when I tell them….now I know, and knowing is half the battle,.

    • “I’m don’t tell a” should read as “I don’t tell a”

…What happened to the edit button again?

  24. um, excuse me. floozie?

i don’t know whether to thank her for bringing that word back to life or be offended. lol. i understand what she means though, but i think a lot of women were only complaining about the pics, not the actual men. i think all of them were cute, but you did lenny wrong wrong wrong. lol. to be fair you also did yaya wrong wrong wrong.

anyhoo… interesting results. and your predictions didn’t influence me. i just thought it was interesting that you thought the vss’s would have chosen bria myles as #1.

in other news…. i saw anchorman. woowoo.

and in other other news… i thought i’d have to start a revolution last night with that Oscar Grant verdict. THATS what people need to be mad about. lebron delroy lindo james will be okay. matter of fact i’m writing a post myself. why a black man’s life is worth the same jail time as stealing a lamp from Walmart, i don’t understand.

    ugh.

  25. I’m not suprised by the results at all, but I agree with many of my fellow posters. I think that this experiment should be done again with less recognizable faces and cropped from the neck up.

It’s no suprise that Bria Myle’s won it hands down for the VSBs. Of the 500+ comments posted yesterday, about 25% were left by VSBs ranting about her a*s. A few tried to throw it that “she has a nice complexion, a nice smile, and looks approachable” but I’m no fool (a floozie maybe, but no fool)! This undoubtly gave her an advantage. I’ve always said that men will overlook an ugly face for a bangin’ body and this just proves my point (and no, I’m not saying that Bria Myles is ugly, but she really isn’t much too look at in the face!).

On that same note, I only think Lenny place as high as he did because of who he is and the sex appeal that he has. Discount his “swagger” and would he still be a looker? At least not in my book! That just goes back to my point that more generic pictures should have been used in the first place.

    • @More is More: Amen. I cosign everything you wrote to the 13th power.

Dudes on here straight lying to themselves & VSB about Bria’s appeal. Her aura, really tho? Her aura? Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! How far will these lies go? Tom foolery. The sister aint ugly, but on face strength alone, she couldn’t curl milk.

And that pic of Lenny is probably the most accurate pic of him out there of what he TRUELY looks like. It’s that, ‘I just got out of bed’ look. Actually, it looks more like he rolled out of a cardboard box in some rank alley and robbed a Brooks Brothers on his way to beg for spare change. If it wasnt for his known fame, most women here wouldn’t throw him a life jacket, much less a glance.

Phrase for the day: “Keep it real…..with yourselves”

      • “Phrase for the day: “Keep it real…..with yourselves”

You can’t say that too loudly. Some of the posters here get mad when you see through their bullsh*t and call them on it.

        No Bullsh*t

    • @More
That’s what I said yesterday in a nutshell. You hit the nail on the head. Kudos. *clap and finger snaps*

  26. A few things I peeped:

*I think, as the champ said, most of the guys (including myself) are attracted to the approachable type and from the photo of Bria, she looks *Eddie Murphy impersonation* good, clean, and wholesome, as did #4 (business suit girl). I think it’s somewhat inherent in the fact that most women tend to be more jazzier and have more spunk themselves that they would rank the ladies who appear to have that higher. It’s kinda like women buying shoes and purses and accessories to look good in the eyes of other women. Men tend to be more conservative and aren’t as superficial when it comes to those things.

*Maybe it was pressure to be overly snarky, but some of the comments I read yesterday from some of the VSS’s just seemed like hating. Actually, this is not surprising though.

*It’ll be interesting to see how men (and women) ranked the perceived attractiveness of VSB’s and VSS’s. And by “interesting”, I mean disasterously funny.

    • i was tooooootally going to suggest that.

like, everyone submit their best pic… and let people rank.

…but there would be all kinds of feelings hurt. and i’m not excluding myself. lol.

that would be bad. all bad. lol

    • Yup. The women ranked Tanika Ray so high because she comes off like she “works it”, so to speak. Women give each other huge points for effort, style and flair, because that’s something so many of them strive for themselves. Ranking her so high Is a way of affirming their own attitudes and mindsets about how a Dope Woman should be.

      • What’s funny to me is that women will give Tanika points for her ‘natural’ hair, but I think she has on more makeup than all the other women. Bria and #4 are more naturally beautiful women (I feel) without the extras.

      • I actually ranked Tanika last because something about her face is kinda off to me, its like she’s Lutha’s curl that just don’t quite curl right to me. I put Bria before her. *shrugs* I will admit my bias against Tanika though because it was based on me seeing her on TV–same as my bias IN FAVOR of Yaya.

      • Women give each other huge points for effort, style and flair,

Great observation… I will wage more on flair. Tanika looks like she’ll be fun… Something, I as a woman am looking for and men not so much.

In the words of my wise grandpa: “While women are looking for security in their mates, men are looking for peace of mind”…. Explains why many men will choose the “approchable, nice girl” over the “seem-to-be crazy fun” girl…

      • This is truth epitomized for the sole purpose of a printer’s ink to be ingested by the minds of the confused.

        Bond

    • “*It’ll be interesting to see how men (and women) ranked the perceived attractiveness of VSB’s and VSS’s. And by “interesting”, I mean disasterously funny.”

I would be super down for that. But um, look how the “Panda incident that shall not be named” turned out, and that person just based their comments on something alleged, right? Dayum, if that sh*t was real life? Whew…Internets would implode fiercely.

Still, I would be down. Not because of the imploding…that would be just a cherry on top. *evil grin*

Naw, for serious, it would be interesing…as you say.

      • Wait, I take back the “super down” I’m still being slightly e-incognegro. I’d wear some sunglasses in mine of some ish. You know, like a douchebag.

    • *Maybe it was pressure to be overly snarky, but some of the comments I read yesterday from some of the VSS’s just seemed like hating. Actually, this is not surprising though.

Wasn’t it though? Ouch! And then Panama was called a 3 because he did the same thing…

I think the whole judging harshly thing says a lot more about the person doing the judging than the person being judged…

But eh, like you said, not that surprising… Still very sad.

  27. I hate i didnt voted, but bria would have come in #1 on my list…Tanika would have been last.

…and this is coming from a lite-skinted dude.

  28. Umm.. so yeah, i don’t read many “magazines” or look at certain magazines for the “articles”.. so i had to google that Bria chick.. and ummm…
    Oh my Shooting Stars!
    Is that healthy?
    Is that normal??
    Goodness gracious……
Ok.. so, for all the furor over the pictures of the guys, i was sitting back like.. “just rank dem already nuh! so wi can move on!”
around 10 o clock yesterday morning, i thought to myself.. “is Champ REALLY gonna tally all that up.. he’s on that good stuff.. (i didn’t know you like to get wet..)”
and if you need an intern, you KNOW i’m on it!! i’m lookin for a reason to move.. that sounds like as good a reason as any..
i didn’t take it for more than what it was.. but Champ, maybe you need to tune the system and come back with another experiment..
everytime i open up Excel, i’m lookin for a squirrel to stone..
(i didn’t ASK you to add a zero.. WTF are you DOING!?!?”
    have a good weekend all….

  29. I enjoyed this post, brotha. I might have to try a similar experiment/game with my gamenight crew.

I found it interesting how a lot of the vss’s seemed to consider a lot of attributes about the men/women that had absolutely NOTHING to do with the photos themselves (no offense, ladies. You know what, on second thought…offense, ladies!…LOL). There was a lot of discussion about YaYa’s modeling and how she looks better in other pictures and that seemed to gain her some points. Similar was some of the discussion about Lenny Kravitz, although the tone was a bit more negative. The vsb’s appeared to judge mainly on the actual photo. Just an observation.

Also, I am one of the brothas who had no idea who #3 was. After learning her name in the comment thread, I googled her (GOTDAMN, that azz, btw)! Aside from her assets, I think it’s really interesting that the vss’s seemed to not understand how we could find #3 most attractive. Someone mentioned that on yesterday’s thread as well.

Lastly, this experiment proves another point (or myth, if you’d rather): that women are far more harsh in judging other women’s physical attractiveness than men are. I felt that, in most cases, the men seemed to be indifferent in their judging (or at least in the reasoning given for why which pic ranked where). We seemed to focus on skin tone, or the look the lady had on her face. More obvious things. The women seemed to look a bit deeper in some cases. Or perhaps it’s more accurate for me to say that the vss’s seemed to judge the women more personally, as women who they thought had qualities similar to their own (or qualities that they admired/envied) got a bit of a boost in the positive direction. I don’t think that’s a bad thing…just a difference.

    • “The vsb’s appeared to judge mainly on the actual photo”

I smell bullsh*t! Saying that the VSBs judged on the photo alone? Blasphemy! I didn’t know who Bria Myles was before yesterday either but I knew all about her assets BEFORE I even had the chance to google her. Why? Because the VSBs couldn’t stop raving about her figure, which inevitably led to her getting the #1 spot!

Like my momma says “that’s like the pot calling the kettle black”!

      • Amen. I’m sure all the men read the comments before posting their selection. They saw all the rants and ravs about her figure and probably even googled her before posting. That is so typical and somethings never change…and we have mature and educated men on here too. smh

      • I voted Bria #1 off of the photo alone. On Champ’s post she has an innocent and sweet look with a nice smile and nice cleavage. Then, I Googled her after reading all the comments. While I appreciated the visuals offered by the full body shots, had I been aware of the “rest-of-the-story”, paul harvey, I would have voted differently.

      • But most guys had never even heard of her. I know I personally didn’t even read other comments before I ranked my 1-5.

I think the fact that so many vss’s are so eager to make a case against #3 being the most attractive to vsb’s speaks volumes about how women perceive what men find attractive. Really, ladies, is it that hard to believe that men can find a darker skinned honey with a cute smile in a tank-top attractive? It’s (for me) a coincidence that she is shaped the way she is from the waist down.

And for the record, I thought all of the women in the pics were average based solely on their pics. None better than an 8 and none worse than a 6.

        • “is it that hard to believe that men can find a darker skinned honey with a cute smile in a tank-top attractive?”

Seriously? Why belittle us this way? Her complexion has nothing to do with it ugh… if anything the pics weren’t equal… (Champ) you can’t have one chick with her boobs out against a bunch of head shots (clutch)… stop making this one of those house vs field negro battles (it may be that way for some but not the majority)

          • co em effin sign x_________x, please discard of the house vs field mentality…..the future generations will thank you

        • “Really, ladies, is it that hard to believe that men can find a darker skinned honey with a cute smile in a tank-top attractive?”

I knew someone would go here. Turn the other way, because it’s not valid. Please, baby, please.

          • Belittle? House vs. Field? WTF are y’all talkin about?!

Look…there seems to be an overall tone from the ladies that there is no way #3 could be ranked highest by the vsb’s based on the picture Champ chose alone. I mention the things about the picture (and just the picture) that make her different from the others. She IS darker skinned. The picture DOES show cleavage. She DOES have a cute smile. To me, if you ranked the #3 picture, you must have decided based on the things that make her stand out. So when I ask the question, “…is it that difficult to believe…”, I gives a f*ck about whatever chip folks got on their shoulders regarding their own mental brown bag tests. So you can go to the store with making ME the bad guy.

            Done with this, I am.

          • “Belittle? House vs. Field? WTF are y’all talkin about?! ”

You’re gonna just up and act like you didn’t type this:

“Really, ladies, is it that hard to believe that men can find a darker skinned honey with a cute smile in a tank-top attractive?”

Why did you HAVE to point out it was “hard to believe” a man can find a “darker-skinned honey” other than accusing it of being what you said…a “mental brown bag test”. Come on, now. What else could you have possible been implying? I’d love to know. But, you’re “done”…so *shrug*

It’s not about her being darker-skinned and going there was a cheap shot. It’s like those who automatically call a woman a hater because she doesn’t “get” why everyone likes a certain woman. Without even sitting the eff down first and imagining that she could have given compliments to other wide-beautiful girls in the past. It’s not always a dayum complex and underlining…sometimes a woman just doesn’t get it. We don’t understand ya’ll sometimes. It’s nature.

          • Well if that wasn’t hella emo(tional)… ugh!

And if wasn’t about complexion why heck did you reference it so many times?… ridiculousness.

          • @Cheekie,

He is pointing it out because it DOES seem hard to believe the way most of the VSS’s are swearing up and down that Bria Myles could not have ranked #1 if not for her booty. What does that mean? That a cute (by VSBs’s accounts and mine too), dark skinned girl in a tank top with her boobs can not be considered prettier than all the others. Those characteristics are the differences the Bria Myles photo has with the other girls. So why is his claim so “out of the ordinary”?

          • “That a cute (by VSBs’s accounts and mine too), dark skinned girl in a tank top with her boobs can not be considered prettier than all the others. Those characteristics are the differences the Bria Myles photo has with the other girls. So why is his claim so “out of the ordinary”?”

It’s not out of the ordinary, but I’m just wondering why he HAD to point out her skin-tone coupled with the question “hard to believe”. That reeks of accusing folks that they don’t think she’s that cute because she’s darker toned, which is a harsh implication. But he swear he didn’t mean that…I’m just letting him know how it read.

Which, by the way, my only question was there because no one really taked about her face until after everyone called them on it. Not necessarily because I think she’s not cute (well, not so much in that pic) It’s more about booty trumps face, not that she was darker.

          • Can I step in cause he was talking sh!t to me too?… and it’s not that we don’t find her as cute as the others because of her complexion… but because of just her… she’s cute in a plain “hey that’s the girl I went to high school with” kind of way, but to beat out a ANTM finalist and who ever dafuk else was on the list… yeah NO! I bet if the guys didn’t see her boobs and the pics were all the same the VSB’s and VSS’s rankings would have been far more similar is my point… these dudes are hella distracted is all and therefore their votes are skewed… for him to ASSUME it’s about skin complexion he gets the gas face AKA Prince @ the BET Awards face.

          • Ok…somebody pointed out to me that there was some after-discussion, if you will, after my last comment.

            So…

To clarify, I used the term “dark-skinned” as easily and meaninglessly as I used the terms “cute” and “tank top”. As I said before, THOSE are the traits about the picture of #3 that made her stand out from the other 4. When I asked if it was that hard to believe, I referred to all 3 of the above traits in that sentence. NOTE that YOU associated my statement solely with “dark-skinned honey” and took offense (you = whoever took offense). That was 100% your doing….I didn’t “go there” or “belittle” sh*t.

I said I was done before because I felt the conversation was no longer productive, as we seemed to stop respectfully discussing our individual opinions. But whatever…continue the name-calling if that’s how you’d rather play it.

    • I didn’t know who #3 was either, but I thought she was pretty attractive…didn’t know what she was working with ’til last night (can’t be Googling certain things on the j-o-b, y’know).
To all of the VSSs in this thread, I’ll pose the question: what makes it so difficult to believe that, based on her picture, she wouldn’t claim a top spot?

      • Because working on faces alone (faces, I say!!!), she was… average. I don’t think any of the VSSs are downplaying her looks, we’re simply saying that VSBs who claim that outside pictures of Ms. Bria didn’t factor into her taking the top spot, is just plain wrong.

It may not have effected your personal ranking, but many of your fellow VSBs scewed those results in her favor for all the wrong reasons. Hell, CBG had his own “I love Bria’s Assetts” cheering section!

        • I don’t understand why us (men) finding her attractive beyond her body is such a surprise. She IS attractive in the face, maybe not to y’all, but to us (at least most of us) she is.

The body is just an added incentive. If she was a beanpole I’d still think she had a cute face, but then I’d find her overall less attractive because she had the body of a 12 year old boy. Not hot.

        • Because working on faces alone (faces, I say!!!), she was… average.

This is your opinion, and you’re fully entitled to it. I could just as easily suggest that Idris Elba is average (I’m using him as the default sex symbol of VSS)…Fortunately for both of us, one person’s opinion is not another person’s reality.
I didn’t rank Bria first (YaYa was my top choice, and I’ll admit to bias because I knew who she was), but she certainly would not be what I consider average (facially or otherwise)…perhaps not drop-dead gorgeous, but average she is not.

          • I HEART you for knowing that IDRIS is the default sex symbol , and for knowing enough not to refer to him as such, that is all :-)

        • Hell, CBG had his own “I love Bria’s Assetts” cheering section!

What can I say? I’m a fan. It took MW09 to confirm that it was her after I put my ranking up. I really didn’t think it was her as much as I used to seeing her in a bikini, I am also used to seeing her pictures where she has a bright smile. I kinda agreed with the comments that said she looked like an innocent, girl next door type in that picture, which is was good with me because I like those type of girls.

    • I am gonna call BS on many of the VSSs answers.

I love Bria Myles (yes I am woman). I have seen her, but I had no idea it was her before voting. Why would that be so impossible? Like some male commenters mentionned, they might have known her assets but not the face…

And let’s even suppose they knew of her a$$ets… Isn’t that part of her physical beauty??? I know Tanika ranked high on my list because I like her personality, I didn’t even realize #1 was Yaya until I read the comments. She was still my #1… I ranked Lenny higher because I Know him and his sex appeal is linked to what I know of him…

So all in all to say, so what if Bria was ranked first for her assets, what does that say that nobody here doesn’t know?

The real question and experiment is why collectively the VSSs were so bent on being harsh in their judgements (in general)… Were we trying to prove the point that women are naturally b!tchy? If so, then we sure did!

      • I don’t think not liking a certain look is bitchie. Especially since most of us raved about how gorgeous Yaya is (even thoough she’s no Eva)

  30. I just have to comment on #4

You feel as though we didn’t get it and were focused on the wrong thing.

I understood that it wasn’t about ranking the cream of the crop, but I think the vss’s (although I only speak for myself) were just disappointed on the selection.

Hmmm How can I explain this?? Ok I  like car and driver/motor trend mags. I especially like the comparative tests. However I’d rather read the top five luxury sports coupe article than the piece on the top 5 economy mid size sedans. As unlikely as I am to own a luxury sports vehicle I’d rather compare an Audi R8, Aston Martin Vantage and a Porsche 911 than try to rank a chevy cobalt, ford focus and Nissan versa. it’s all comparative to see if the motor experts agree but  somehow I don’t care that the versa has surprisingly good handling, what I want to know is how was the shifting on the R8.

Yesterday I felt y’all had sports coupes and we had sedans. Basically they weren’t fun to rank, so sone of us didn’t bother. Make sense???

    My questions:
    1) I’d be interested to know which group differed the most. Meaning which group had the widest range of dissimilarity in their ranking.

    2) what did you gf think of the lineup you selected?

    • I understood that it wasn’t about ranking the cream of the crop, but I think the vss’s (although I only speak for myself) were just disappointed on the selection….Yesterday I felt y’all had sports coupes and we had sedans. Basically they weren’t fun to rank, so some of us didn’t bother. Make sense???

This is a classic case of overthinking/overanalyzing the situation instead of simply enjoying the FUN exercise that it was meant to be. You cause yourself undue stress by giving so much thought to something that doesn’t require it. And while you didn’t consider the male selection to be up to par, many of your fellow VSS did…and participated accordingly. I’m just sayin…

  31. BREAKING NEWS: Groupies across the nation have put down payments on properties in Miami. Lace front wig sales have soared and condom sales are at an all time low…Lebron is coming!

Come on Lakers fan, you’ve had a good reign but your time is over. Kiss the pinky.

    • LOL I knew either you or Nick were going to have something to say about last night. And I thought football season was going to be interesting. I might have to actually start watching basketball before the All-Star break.

      • you know what?!?!?! i don’t like you assuming that i would have something to say because this business happened where i live…
you know what happens when you assume!!!
        ________________________________________________
i can’t even pretend like i didn’t.. i’m creeped out that you called it..
(shameface…) yeah, i did have something to say.. except i posted my comment on twitter last night.. but since you missed it.
“Miami is gonna look like Memorial Day weekend ALL THE TIME!!! ” maybe i’m too vocal for my own good.. i should be uplifting the face of “groupie chick” and “turkey baster extraordinaire.” not degrading them..
        that’s IT, i’ve turned over a leaf!!
LOL… i can’t even say that with a straight face either..
        i’m delirious on a friday…. have a good weekend!!
im stackin my paper to come up on the ps3.. i shouldn’t rely on a dude for my gaming enjoyment.. then i’m COMING FOR YOU ont eh network.. (this is the part where you start trembling!!)

        • Hey, I was just assumed because it was down around your way, considering that it is all people have been b**ching about on sports radio. Only 15 more days until Cowboys training camp starts so the next two weeks are going to be boring. Yes, MIA is going to be like Memorial day every home game and I am glad you acknowledge that. This also guarantees another season of Basketball Wives. Keep stacking your paper, girl. Bring it. Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Killzone 2, Super Street Fighter IV, it’s whatever. Still debating on getting NCAA Football 11 to hold me over until Madden 11 comes out. The commercial for that game is pretty cool.

          • *rolls eyes*
another season of basketball wives was guaranteed on the reunion show.. however this development means that there will be a similar show on BET and E! Television
i just need my own little island..
            i can’t deal with this..

    • *rounds of applause for this extremely accurate breaking news update.* smh.

season tickets have ALREADY sold out.

i knew around 8:15 or so though, even before he announced it. the radio DJ said Jay Z bought 2 courtside season tickets to Miami around that time. that was a dead giveaway. i really don’t care though. miami can’t handle both wade and lebron’s egos. nope.

      LAKERS!!!!!!!!

…there will be no pinky kissing. lol

      • Plus the red and white plaid shirt he had on gave it away. We all knew. You will be kissing it soon enough. LOL

        • ask malone and the glove how joining forces with superstars worked out.
          #imjussayin.

and can we PLEASE stop calling bosh a superstar. yes, he was good. but i saw him day in and day out…

either way, if bron doesn’t win next year, im calling him susan lucci. to his face.

          • The Rapist (Kobe) screwed up that team. Couldn’t share or defer to Karl (bitch*ss) Malone. They should have easily won that year.

            No Bullsh*t

          • Stop the presses! I actually agree with its2010dammit.

Yeah, Hobe (wkcite Gem of the Ocean) and his supersized ego is the reason why the Malone move failed.

            #NotEvenaMiamiOrLebronFan

  32. In reply to the whole Bria thing: More is More and Sobo said it.

Anyone or any man who says they would see all of these women sitting at a round table and pick out Bria as the best looking is full of that doo doo. I had to google the girl to see what the hub bub was about. I saw one pic of her fully dressed and um…hell to the no is she pretty. If a woman has to work that hard (every pic of her was her had her @ss showing) to be attractive then she’s not. If I have to walk down the street in a thong, half naked to get attention then it’s safe to say I’m not that pretty and have nothing else going for me.

And the ones that truly didn’t know who she was and picked her first were either trying to be politically correct (she was the only chocolate sista), read the other vsb’s picks first, or because she looked the least intimidating out of the other 4. Let’s face it, men are intimidated by really attractive women.

    • @SFG
“Anyone or any man who says they would see all of these women sitting at a round table and pick out Bria as the best looking is full of that doo doo.”

Yesssss!!! Bringing the heat this morning I see.

    • “Anyone or any man who says they would see all of these women sitting at a round table and pick out Bria as the best looking is full of that doo doo.”

“If a woman has to work that hard (every pic of her was her had her @ss showing) to be attractive then she’s not.”

Are you equating attractive/best looking to pretty/prettiest face? I think that that’s one problem. There are multiple aspects of intelligence, and there are multiple aspects of attractiveness. As I say above, I prefer face to body, but banging body and decent face IS attractive.

I also don’t think that it’s unfair to rank her based on body, given that the original post about male and female perceptions of female attractiveness incorporated body. For the purposes of the survey, though, it is unfair to use knowledge of body. (FWIW, I didn’t rank Bria #1.)

“Let’s face it, men are intimidated by really attractive women.”

      (1) This again seems to assume an esoteric definition of attractive in which the only thing that counts toward attractiveness is face.

      (2) To the extent that this observation is true, it’s equally applicable to attractive bodies. I doubt that most of the dudes talking about how approachable Bria looks from that picture would seriously be brave enough to holler in real life.

      (3) She does look friendly in the picture. Why is it crazy to believe that a man might find a 9 with a friendly demeanor more attractive than a 10 with the siddity stankface?

      • Alright alright…kudos, snickers and ish. You have a point. I wasn’t saying Bria wasn’t attractive…I was saying that she wasn’t the most attractive. (many men did put her #1)…and the reason for this was her body and her body ALONE. We are smart enough to know this so let’s call a spade a spade.

I don’t think attractiveness is based soley off of the face…just like it shouldn’t be based soley off of having a big butt or big breasts.

        • “I don’t think attractiveness is based soley off of the face…just like it shouldn’t be based soley off of having a big butt or big breasts.”

I feel you…I have a friend whose opinion of Kitoy Johnson (I Like the Way You Move) did a complete 180 before and after he saw the body.

    • “If a woman has to work that hard (every pic of her was her had her @ss showing) to be attractive then she’s not.”

I actually completely agree with this, but the point of the test wasn’t to judge her picture gallery on google, it was to judge the pictures in the post. You can believe that every VSB’s judgment was compromised because our simple minds were distracted by thoughts of Bria’s assets, but give us a little more credit than that. I didn’t know who Bria Myles was and hadn’t read any comments before I decided to rank her first.

I saw her pics and it didn’t change my ranking because those pictures had nothing to do with the test. Although I thought her pictures on google made her face look less attractive while showing me another side of her that I wasn’t aware of, my ranking was based on her picture in the post. I won’t deny that I have a slight personal bias towards sistas of a darker persuasion, but it was far from a political correctness concern. Again, believe what you want, but that’s the truth.

      • Dude you saw her boobs tho… if all the other girls had they boobs propped up the same way with they arms pushing them sh!ts together like a freggin playboy calendar I doubt she would have been numero uno.

        • LOL wait, so now I’m not allowed to judge her based on the picture that was put up? First the complaint was we judged her based on stuff that wasn’t in the picture. Now the complaint is we judged her based on stuff that WAS in the picture. Please, let me know what I’m allowed to judge her on.

          • Point is Champ f!cked up… but I refuse to let y’all act like it was all about “how wholesome and pure… approachable{(?)- bwahahahaha}” she looks… bwoy stop, it was the boobs! If everybody had boobs in they shot would she have been number one TDA… well would she?

          • You Damn African…you lucky I love Africans.

Do I think you really posted your comment without reading all the hub bub about her body? Hmmm…you need more people. Again, I’m not saying she’s not attractive but I would hardly say she’s pretty. And now I sound like I’m the president of the Hate Bria club.

I know you’re deep but I don’t know about your counterparts swimming all shallow and ish.

          • @Yeah…So
Hahaha, if you firmly believe that it was all about the boobs, then by all means continue to believe that. If everyone had their boobs in the shot? You act like Bria was only wearing a bra lol. I won’t say that cleavage from other chicks wouldn’t have helped their case, but you make it seem like we ranked Bria above Halle Berry or something. Her picture, not her as a whole, but her picture was the most attractive out of all the pictures IMO.

            @SmartFoxGirl
I posted my comment after reading some comments about her body, but I already had my rankings done before I read those comments. It didn’t affect my ranking of her. Believe what you will.
Wait, when did we start talking about pretty vs attractive? I think yall might be making more out of this ranking than was meant. Her PICTURE was the most attractive one of the bunch, IMO. That’s it. There’s nothing deeper to it. And it’s very likely that some of males did vote her first because of her assets, but I believe they were a small minority. To claim that all or most of the VSB’s judged her based on that is a bit presumptuous.

          • Yeah I assumed and attractiveness is relative…you are right. I just know many weren’t on your thought pattern.

          • @TDA
“Her picture, not her as a whole, but her picture was the most attractive out of all the pictures IMO.”

Oh good… so we agree her boobs aided in your decision… that’s big of you to admit that lol

          • @SFG
I don’t deny that there were other men who weren’t on my thought pattern. In fact, I firmly believe there were. I just don’t believe it was most of us lol.

            @Yeah…So
Yeah, her boobs aided the decision lol. Is that the issue? Do you believe her cleavage in that pic would be enough to take her from a #5 to a #1? Her boobs, face, skin, and smile all played a part in my decision, but I don’t think her boobs were some kind of gamechanger. Were the other women at a “disadvantage” because they didn’t have cleavage? You could make a strong case for that. However, I don’t believe it was enough of a disadvantage to affect the results that much. Regardless, the original assumption was that all the VSB’s were ranking Bria based on seeing her ass from other pictures and I don’t think that’s true.

          • @TDA

I love winning debates ahhhhhhhh… actually, it makes a huge difference considering ALL the other chicks were (what I’ve been reading up thread) just too similiar and on the same playing field… that one asset definitely can take her from zero to hero. As far as the comments bout her pics outside of VSB… I dunno nothing bout dat.

    • *sad face* because i thought she was pretty. i thought all the women were pretty, though. sort of the same level pretty. but then i got confused because i thought the business suit lady was the prettiest, and then yaya. but then i was like tanika ray is pretty too! she can’t be number 3. but what about tamia!? (i thought she was tamia.) tamia’s pretty too! but then why am i leaving out the dark skinned girl, she’s pretty too! it was hard. pretty for everybody! lol

i’m rambling alot this morning, but then, i’ve been away for a while, so…..i have a lot to express

      • I thought the same thing…there were all pretty but I knew who was prettiest. It was hard to rank 2-5.

      • yea I hear you. ranking the women was pretty hard because they were more closely matched in their attractiveness.

    • Given the 5 photos in Champ’s line up, Bria, #3, was the most attractive in the line up. Subsequently, I saw photos where she wasn’t all that cute, and photos of the others that made them appear MUCH more attractive than their line up photo. I chose Bria because, in Champ’s photo line up, she was the most attractive IMO. THEN, I googled her and discovered who she is.

      • That’s because your Cab the Great and from Texas where you got an ish load of Brias. We got them here in Miami too…and believe me the brothas love them.

      • now, they might call themselves wanting to put you in your place by not fawning over you like they feel like other men might do. but they’re not intimidated. although, that’s basically just a form of intimidation, you could say, so i kind of just contradicted myself. hm….let me go get some coffee this morning.

    • girl preach. lol.

although… some men just dig the chocolate. i asked a few guys i know who don’t comment here and 3 out of 4 of them picked her first and had no clue who she was. (unless they lied) lol.

i also found that the women (with pics) were more likely to rank a woman who they most identified with, higher. cause we all think we’re flyy. lol.

      • i also found that the women (with pics) were more likely to rank a woman who they most identified with, higher. cause we all think we’re flyy. lol.

And, herein lies the cosign…women aren’t objective at all when it comes to other women’s attractiveness. One of the VSS (Sula, I think) even ranked #3 based upon her resemblance to her younger sister…which is totally understandable, but it ain’t objective at all.

      • being a beige sista who loves chocolate. I concur. I prefer chocolate (the men’s #5 was my first choice) so I get it. however i will say that there is an epidemic where the dark skin black women aren’t getting much love. smh…i’ve seen men holla at me over a dark skin women who is gorgeous just because i’m lighter. so i was glad to see that color didn’t play a factor with the mens.

        fyi, everyone is biased.

    • “If a woman has to work that hard (every pic of her was her had her @ss showing) to be attractive then she’s not.”

In the photos with her @ss showing she was modeling. Some folks model hands, some folx model @ss. That’s work. To me that’s akin to saying that I have to work hard doing engineering calculations to be attractive.

    • This reminds me of a heated discussion me and a couple of the boys had with the group of sista at a cookout about why we (men) operate the way we do and what we like. After every statement we made, the group of sistas would rebut with, “No! That’s not how men are…that’s not what y’all like…” and we’d end up responding with, “You’re not listening!..” and so on. Well, it seems we are at that point again.

WE ARE TELLING YOU WHAT WE LIKE AND WHY (excuse the allcaps. I’m on my BBerry and don’t know how to do bold text). In this case, it’s #3, and you should accept the reasoning we’ve all given for why we chose her as truth instead of saying we’re all full of sh*t.

      • That’s very true. We just don’t believe alot of what men say to be their honest feelings. Like it’s hard to believe my brother likes his girlfriend’s “artistic style” when I saw her showing us how her butt will accidently clap (while she’s wearing a thong bikini at the beach with my grandma and aunts sitting right there) and about 20 other men watching and drooling. I dunno…guess it’s all relative

    • SFG, Why are you so pressed about the fact that number 3 was ranked the highest amongst men? Could it be that her simple and laid back physical nature is attractive? I think it is ok for men to be attracted to women that other women don’t find attractive. I’m not standing up for the men saying they didn’t have her body in mind but it IS possible that they judged her based on her face. Clearly she doesn’t have to work that hard to be attractive since most of the men here thought she was the most attractive. There is no reason for the men to pander to women on this site. I think men and women define attractive differently and I’m ok with that.
I thought she was the prettiest because she was simple. She reminded me of a friend of mine who most men think is very pretty.
Granted I am a VSS and I am darker skinned I may be a bit biased as well. I could careless about her other regions because I already have enough.

      • I agree with you. You’re probably dark skin, attractive with a beautifully big bootay huh? So you related to Bria (minus the thong)…and I’m fair with curly hair so I related to 1 and 2. It all makes sense. Someone said upthread that women like what we can relate to…however men are completely different. I guess it struck a nerve with me at how barely any of the women listed her first and almost all the men did…and like you said, that’s ok. I’ve woosahed and ordered pizza for lunch so I will be good in about 1 hour.

    • “If a woman has to work that hard (every pic of her was her had her @ss showing) to be attractive then she’s not”

      Dayummmm, SFG went IN.

But yeah, I think the reason why us VSSs are giving the side-eye not because it’s invalid to love Bria’s arse. It’s very valid. It’s a marvelous donk. What warrants the side-eye is whether men thought she would be just as pretty without all that (which wasn’t showing in the pic…aside from the cleavage). I mean, not “just as” because a banging body definitely helps, but is her face pretty enough to warrant all the accolades. And sure, you may say her face was great AFTER the fact, but please believe the VSSs had a reason to question your agenda after 97% of the comments geared toward her were about her rump/boobs. But, hell, if you say her face is pretty, it is (I’m DONE understanding what men find attractive…the ish is subjective than a mofo)…just understand where we were coming from yesterday…

      • (playing lil wayne and drake) I’m going iiiinnnnnnnn I’m going iiiinnnnn and I’m a go haaaarrrd *chomps on pep pizza*
        …you got it boo

    • I am a woman and I think she is prettier than 3 of the women there. But that might be my inherent bias… Like I say, she looks exactly like my little sister…

      *shrugs*

Plus since when is attractiveness measured by face alone?

  33. Per point 4, OKCupid did a study of the data from their own site that confirms this. A summary article is here:

    http://techcrunch.com/2009/11/18/okcupid-inbox-attractive/

The main takeaway is that men tend to be more even-minded when assessing women’s looks (standard deviation bell curve), while women are super harsh when it comes to rating men (all but the best looking dudes are considered “below-average”). But the kicker is that this flips when it comes to whom folks go after or actually accept. Women are way more willing to date people they find unattractive, whereas men put a ton of energy into the baddest chicks.

I think this analogy only goes so far, though, because on dating websites, dudes probably feel like they have more of a shot to at least be considered by the hottest women, even if for just a the 3 seconds she’s looking at your page, than in real life. In real life, dudes don’t just push up on teh hottest women – cats are more realistic.

    • Interesting analysis.

Bottom line, most women just talk a good talk and can’t walk that walk… I can dig it.

  34. Honestly, I didn’t put much thought into yesterdays post (could have been the fcuked up night I had before that made me not focus, but I digress). From Champ posting his picks, to the actual pics that consisted of well-known people, I knew it was going to be bias.

Whatever ‘answer’ one was suppose to derive from yesterday ‘test’ could have been found if the list was skewed differently… full bodied, maybe light, dark, fat, slim, athletic, white, black, latino, Alaskan (Boondocks), professional demeanor, slutty attire, gym outfit, thuggish appeal, etc… People may feel that a person may pick the latino with the donk who is dressed slutty over the brown skinned chubby professional, or the thug over your average everyday dude…inquiring minds.

It is not my blog, I am just a willing participant who comes and get my weekly dose of shyts and giggles.

One thing that I did notice was a lot of longtime readers (lurkers) came out of hiding :) (only person who should stay in the closet is Kirk F….) because the post (at minimum)ask that you type 5 numbers (it could have been to talk about Bria and her azz) and most did that.

I have to give kudos to Champ for tallying all of that bcuz my ADHD would not permit me to read all of yesterdays comments much less calculate all of those #’s (and I’m an acct…). If you are looking for an intern, I co-sign Ms. Nick for the job!

    • @Jai
LOL yeah I went in deep. It should be just for shyts and giggles. I saw tons of lurkers…where they live at? Lurkville? Inquiring minds. Love the avi as always.

      • Lurkville?

LMAO…they can come out of the closet and join in the fun, but just keep your boy Kirk in there (Sunday Best)

        • *WAVING- been putting in too much hard work this week, but any who. speaking of closet…did anyone else happen to notice a comment yesterday form a dude picking other dudes and saying ….pause…..Yes I am Homo, or something similar…..#IDIED

          • mutters obscenities under breath at the fact that bajanflchick MADE me go back to find this comment from yesterday LMAO (only bajan would find that comment out of all of the comments and because she pointed it out, I had to check it out)

      i’m dope… thankya much..

      LOL!! have a great weekend..!

  35. “(a HUGE no-no, according to my girlfriend, because it can subconsciously influence results)”

She’s right. When constructing surveys and whatnot, there’s a ton of sh*t the creators need to do (or not do) to get unbiased answers.

I’ve learned all about this crap through statistics and experimental design and whatnot; I woulda done some of it for you (read: no I wouldn’t have, but I always act like I would’ve gladly helped if asked).

    • Man, and whatever happened to the sh*t where you had like four seconds to edit your post? I really hate repeating words and I said “whatnot” too many times in such a close proximity.

  36. Good experiment… I also had NO idea that was Lenny until after reading the comments, don’t feel bad Champ.

I read a comment yesterday by a dude that the only reason women picked guy #2 (George Hill) was because it was obvious he was an athlete, so we were after $$$ and as a result are shallow. Son, #youmad? I personally picked him first b/c his face is cute. That could’ve been his high school/college basketball pic for all I cared. I don’t care how much money you have, you are not gon endanger my chillens’ (children) w/ a hideous face gene. Flavor Flav.

  37. was i the only that thought the #5 lady was tamia? see, i would have ranked her higher because of that. thinking she was tamia, i would have ignored that picture, and ranked her on the attractiveness i know her to have. like with that picture of yaya. well, and lenny.

  38. and i think lenny’s attractiveness has more to do with swagger than him actually being good looking. ok, no i don’t–lenny’s hot. but, still, a lot of his appeal is generated by the swagger.

  39. Ok I just googled Bria Myles and I have to say that brought her down in my ranking. I mean I get guys like the big booty, but she was #3 on my list for having a cute face and having that girl next door quality I know guys really like (even if they spend a few years chasing those “other” girls) neither of which cane across on any of her pics on her site.

  40. Champ- it appears that, if nothing else, your post has proven that men are logical and women take liberties with deviating from the logical (and ladies, I mean no offense by that statement).

We were all given the same criteria…rank the photos presented in order of perceived attractiveness. It was implied that this ranking was to be based solely on the photos presented.

From the comments I’ve read yesterday and today, the men did exactly that except for a few who knew who Bria was. The women, on the other hand, made evaluations based on their knowledge of the person’s background, and what other photos of the person they were aware of. This either shows that men can more easily follow directions or that women have a greater capacity for thinking outside the box. Some women think so differently from the men that they simply cannot accept that the men made choices based on the presented photos alone. Either way, if I’m ever on trial, I want an all male jury so they can make a judgement of guilt or innocence strictly within the confines of the law and juror instructions.

    • “Either way, if I’m ever on trial, I want an all male jury so they can make a judgement of guilt or innocence strictly within the confines of the law and juror instructions.”

I hate you for this, LOL!

I think you and your fellow VSBs need to learn a thing or two about “thinking outside the box”. If men could acquire the gift of looking beyond a woman’s physical, then ya’ll could save yourself from some f’ed up situations, like that baby mama that’s cute but crazier than bat sh*t! Ya’ll need to dig a little deeper!!!

      • We evolved to focus heavily on the physical, just like y’all evolved to include many things other than the physical. Women are between a rock and a hard place with that (no pun intended) – if y’all had to focus on strictly the physical, tons of y’all would never find anyone you like well enough to get involved with, and of course, that’s no good. So y’all decided to come up with other criteria, so that you could actually find someone you’re interetsed in.

      • ^^
“Ya’ll need to dig a little deeper”"

You just mad cause Caballeroso styled on you…

men and women can be guilty of not looking beyond the physical, and both get cause up in uncessesary b.s.

    • What I think this survey showed is men are truly led by their penises.#Damon Evans, Tiger Woods, Kwame Kilpatrick, etc.

Bria won because she had skin showing and because many guys knew about her ASSets. If all she had were those average B Cups showing and a regular size booty she probably would have been in fourth place.

    • Co-sign.

I shared the test and my choices with a female friend last night. The exchange went like this:

“Why you got #3 in first place? There’s something wrong with her smile, like she’s insecure. Yaya definitely gets first place!”
“I talked to a chick who smiled the exact same way, she’s cute…her chesticles help too…who’s yaya?”
“You’re such a man…she’s the chick who Eva beat on ANTM…I love her!”
“Eva? The chick who looks like a cockatoo?”

yeah…I really didn’t bring much outside knowledge to this, i just went off the pictures.

    • Whatever Cab!…you still my ninja tho
*looking at Bria’s pics online and sitting on yoga ball*

    • As sadly painful as it is to admit (because I have worked YEARS against that belief), yesterday seems to prove that point…

But I refuse to acknowledge it… Let’s just chalk it up to I don’t know… Gosh, I got nothing.

It was a sad day in WomanistLand… where I hail from. :)

    • Please don’t speak generally of all the VSS’s that posted. That was not true of me. I ranked by attractiveness of the photos alone, but admitted how a man carries himself impacts my attraction. I also stated I liked all kinds of men and also NEVER went IN on any of the selections. Just because a guy got ranked last by the pictures posted alone, did not mean he was NOT attractive. It just meant he was lesser attractive than some of the other guys in their respective picture (in my humble opinion).

    • Either way, if I’m ever on trial, I want an all male jury so they can make a judgement of guilt or innocence strictly within the confines of the law and juror instructions.

lol. Me too, especially since they will be in no way swayed by my ample chesticles and waist-to-hip ratio! ;)

  41. this experiment was actually a success. It definitely proved why most of my guy friends are skeptical about having our female buddies put us on their female friends.

The experiment proved women really dont understand what a cute women is to men. Some of the girls were trying to do dumb ass shit like trying to decipher the character of the girl by her picture. When it comes to a physical assessment, men go see —> judge, but women go see–>smell—>over-evaluate—>think of cuter friends—>attack personality (meeting the person never matters)—>call a friend lifeline—>judge

    • “When it comes to a physical assessment, men go see —> judge, but women go see–>smell—>over-evaluate—>think of cuter friends—>attack personality (meeting the person never matters)—>call a friend lifeline—>judge”

      LMBOOO!

y’all are making my day today. lmbo. that is so true.

    • The experiment proved women really dont understand what a cute women is to men.

See, that was kind of known fact going in… What I am having a hard time understand is how they STILL refuse to acknowledge it when men try to break it down and explain it… Like seriously? He tells you he likes X, you insist that he should like Y? Why?

      It’s borderline hilarious.

      • I just sit back and enjoy the show…communication is key, but as you can see between the comments of today and yesterday, a lot of women are not interested in what guys think/say, but rather enjoy telling them what they SHOULD think and say and/or criticizing them about it.

Well…there goes that whole ‘love’ thing…

        Bond.

  42. Another takeaway from yesterday’s post that’s interesting is many VSS’ preoccupation with the VSB choices/selections (maybe it’s just Bria Myles’ selection), but VSB’s ambivalence in regards to VSS’s ranking order. There have been several comments upthread about why/how #3 could’ve been at the top of many VSB’s listing order. However, very few (if any) of the fellas are questioning why Revis was #1 and Foote came in last place for all the VSS. Maybe we should all just accept that we (i.e., men and women) view attractiveness differently (refer to Scipio Africanus’ comment upthread, which was pretty insightful).

    • “Maybe we should all just accept that we (i.e., men and women) view attractiveness differently (refer to Scipio Africanus’ comment upthread, which was pretty insightful).”

      TRUTH TRUTH AND MORE TRUTH..it’s the acceptance part that’s a bit#h, apparently…

      • Yeah, that acceptance stage is rough… Lol!

And #2 was my last!!! I don’t do pretty-thugaliscious-jock. Ick.

  43. Wow, Champ. I had no idea your test would warrant the kind of reactions it has. I think you ought to do it again.

VSSs, don’t even trip about the men’s reactions to Bria Myles after Googling her pictures. I frequent a lot of hip-hop websites, like AllHipHop, WorldStar HipHop, This is 50, so I have seen Bria Myles and a lot of other models. She was my #2 on the test yesterday before I realized who she was so her butt didn’t really didn’t have a factor in my decision, and I think it was the same way for a lot of the VSBs. I really thought #4 was pretty and she was the one with the most clothes. Boobs and booties are always going to be a factor, not THE factor, of attractiveness for most men. It’s a fact of life, so get over it. In the cast of this test, #4 had things I love about women: A pretty smile, nice lips, her hair was up and she had a nice pantsuit on. I know what I like and that is what drew me to her. A woman that leaves something to the imagination is tops in my book, because I have a very overactive imagination.

Really, all and all, the women were lovely any way. Just like some people didn’t know who Bria, I didn’t know #1 was Yaya from ANTM, and always thought she was pretty. Tanika Ray is always hot when I see her on TV, natural hair and curves and all. This may have been a case of basing our ranks solely off of the pictures presented. It’s nothing to get flustered about. The randomness of it made it a lot more interesting. I was surprised myself that Bria was ranked #1 overall. I kinda thought this was gonna to be a dark skin/light skin debate but it ended up turning into an a$$ and ti**ies debate, which, in a different setting, would have been a viable debate. I really like Bria’s skin tone and the smoothness of it, believe it or not. I guess it’s because I get random compliments on my skin from women so I pay attention to a woman’s skin more than I used to. There is no reason for any of the VSSs to be concerned about the results of this test. All of y’all have intelligence and class and have unique things that make you beautiful. You don’t need a waist > < big with a butt this ( )( ) big in order to be considered beautiful, because there is no guarantee it will.

Sidenote #1: Listening to sports talk radio this morning, boys is really catching feelings on this Lebron thing. He could have kept the special last night, but the man wants to win. Can't hate on that. The 2010 NBA should be interesting.

Sidenot #2: Maybe it is just me but there are a lot of beautiful black women showing up in TV commercials nowadays. I mean, really pretty women. I know Champ had a thing for the girl in the cellphone commercial, but there is a lady in a Nationwide insurance commercial that is hot. Yeah, I know, I watch a lot of TV.

    • waves to CBG- just to add, can’t remember if it was PJ or Champ, but one of them was also feelin the Popeyes Lady….#differentstrokes -RIP Gary Coleman

      • *waves back* Hey there. Looks like things are going to get interesting down your way. Looks like Miami is going to look like All-Star weekend every home game.

    • the whole Bria thing was a little blown up i think.. honestly though (TMI time) i think the only thing that resonated with me was “is this what’s expected?? because i have no hope..”
and living where i do live.. (and i’ve said it before) this is what the guys with the least to offer expect.. i really feel like i’m seeing the “video mentality” manifested right before my eyes..
not everyone values brains everywhere.. but then if i flip my assessment, if they don’t value brains, then i wouldn’t want to be with them anyway..
thing is since men are visual.. (and i get it) then when you’re out looking “bodily normal” it’s still not anything special because they expect a Stacy Dash.. or Esther Baxter (who i believe is from here.. if i remember correctly)
Thanks a lot Bria.. thanks a lot… there’s no Brazil booty workout that i can hop on to get that.. but then again, i can’t say i want it..
      i’m proportional.. i’m cool..

      • It is the same way with men. We can be just as easily judged by women, based our physical features, how we dress, what we drive. Women can have that same “video mentality” when it comes to men, too. It’s a sucky double standard but it is what it is in our society. Even when I was in college, video girls where great to look at but I always thought that the majority of them where probably as dumb as a bag of rocks. My sister always told me that you can tell about a woman by seeing if she is comfortable in her own skin, just like we as men have to be, too. Like you said, men that go after women like that have the least to offer expect, so you probably aren’t missing out on anything.

        • that’s true..
i guess men are easily judged by women.. me and the fellas talk about sports and video games too much.. and i don’t exactly expect smart opinions, so we never really get into topics like this..

oh.. and in reference to the Lebron thing..
          my thoughts had an addendum..
it’s the same thought i have with the Dolphins..
they have 50-lem pieces and STILL can’t make the puzle pieces fit together.. STILL can’t make that talent count for anything other than dashed hopes at the end of each season..
i think this might be the same thing.. you bring in all this talent HOPING for the second coming to happen.. only rivaled by the parting of the Red Sea.. and they STILL can’t make the perfect puzzle pieces fit.
it’s a whole lot of pressure.. i hope it works out..
because if the season is anything less than something special.. all i’m gonna say sometime next year is
“July 09,2010… it was tweeted..” and stick out my tongue..
i’m not ms. cleo or anything, but still… some things i see coming..
          now, come ON with football!!
thank you for your comment on the blog….

          • Hey Nick- wop’n dahlin….anywho thank goodness for this “i’m not ms. cleo or anything”- I don’t think it would be a good look for you in the orange prison jumpsuit , plus you are the real deal holyfield, ms. cleo=fakin jamaican….#FAIL

          • The Fins should have a good team this year. Getting Marshall will definitely help Chad Henne out a lot. Ricky really impressed me last year and dude still got it. No problem on the comment on your blog. You rock and there is nothing you can do about it.

        • I finally Googled Bria and I must say that I was shocked (in a negative way). I can’t believe her main attraction is a hotentot booty. I would never want to have a daughter that is shaped like that. Her body brings out the base, animalistic nature of men and quite frankly I don’t see how she can be taken seriously for doing anything else than what she’s doing.

I have a close friend with a beautiful face, an MBA and one of those disproportioned behinds. Guys never took into account her other assets – just the one she was sitting on. She claims that her butt was a “curse” and blamed it on why guys just seemed to want to “bed” her but not “wifey” her. She ended up marrying an ex-con with 4 out of wed-lock kids by 4 different mothers. Sad but true story.

          • She ended up marrying an ex-con with 4 out of wed-lock kids by 4 different mothers.

Yeah no… she had other issues.

      • @Nick
Sexxxaaayyy avi btw. ;) And yes I always cosign with you. I don’t know if I want a donk and I love my body so that aint it. I think it struck a nerve with me and several ladies because we want our men to look past sex.

      • Ok, I’ve been resisting the urge to say this all day, but the muscle tone and definition of your arms and back as shown in your avi is really doing it for me, especially the way it appears to taper down to a small waist…coupled with the long hair, OMG! That’s all.

    • CBG u funny. I love that black women are all up in commercials now adays..but I do notice it’s always a mulatto women with curly hair and mulatto children. What can I say, I’m in an analytical kind of mood this week. On a side note, I love your view on what we women should feel about ourselves. It’s just hard when we are constantly objectified by men.

      • I actually noticed a pretty brown skin woman in a commercial. It was the Verzion commercial where the mom ordered a pirate for her sons birthday but got a cowboy instead. The woman that played the mom was pretty.

      • I love when people say mulatto! yasss.

your comment made me think about the mulatto woman in the birth control commercial with the mulatto-esque kids and possibly mulatto husband. a whole family of little tamias.

    • I also thought this would end up being a light-skinned/dark-skinned thing and am glad it mostly stayed out of that arena. I remember that I had the same order (for the women) as you did, so #4 was my first pick and Bria (who I had never even heard of) was second. I didn’t know who any of the women were (although I recognized YaYa from somewhere). To be perfectly honest, a part of me only put Bria at second choice because I didn’t want to have to come back today and have to defend my choosing the dark-skinned girl last.

I think she is absolutely beautiful, but would have come in last if I wasn’t worried about subconsciously ranking the lighter chicks ahead of her. My issues is that she was more average, in the sense that I know a number of women who could more than compete in any beauty contest based on her facial features alone. I don’t really understand the point being thrown out about her being the “girl next door” though. To me, her picture yesterday looked like the video chick trying to be the girl next door and that was before I had ever heard of her. That’s just me though. *shrugs*

  44. This is all kind of funny to me.

I don’t know urban models, so I didn’t know #3 was Bria. She was my #2 because that was a nice picture of her, she has pretty skin, and a nice smile. And I’m sure the VSBs picked her first for some of the same reasons.

And I have to agree with Champ’s friend. It was a little ridiculous the way some ladies went in on the men. The men were nice. Honestly, out of all the pictures, there wasn’t an ugly one in the bunch. At least not to me. *shrug*

  45. I’ve been reading some of the comments left by some of the vss (especially yours, Smart Fox Girl) and I think the reason some of you (my vss’s) are salty is because you figured that you at least knew what most men found attractive, and were surprised when you found out that you didn’t. I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t know that Bria Myles was shaped like Aphrodite, but I can definitely say that she was not 1st place because of that (For evidence of that, google Ki Toy and/or Buffie the Body, both gorgeous shapes with very little going on the face area. I can guarantee you they would have come in dead last.) This should be sound evidence that in trying to seduce a man never listen to your girlfriends (or magazines, or TV shows) because it’s akin to the blind leading the blind through a mine field: more often than not, someone’s going to end up blown and it probably won’t be him. Really though this makes me truly wonder how much “knowledge” that females pass amongst themselves and take for granted is grounded in reality. I bet many VSS were banking on that whole “most ninjas are colorstruck” concept in putting Ms. Myles dead last. Should this cause you to rethink other things that you take for granted?

    • Even if you didnt know that the “chocolatey” girl was sitting on all that meat, you still had her t*tties in your face. That and her innocent yet dirty & alluring ‘come hither’ expression.
Can you say that the other photos presented were of the same nature? Of course not. So how is it possible you can be confident in yours or anyone elses rankings to be impartial?
Until there are neck up photographs of joes and janes with no make up, no facial expressions, and no t*tties and basketballs in the frame, the test is complete trash(FAIL). Until then, you cant make any assertions about anything or draw any conclusions(i.e colorstruck).

      • Were we seeing to different pictures? While I do see the cleavage, it wasn’t a ridiculous amount and what exactly is this ‘come hither’ expression of which you speak? I think you may be exaggerating just a teensy bit. I can say that all of the pictures were similar in nature (IMHO) except for the small amount of cleave in the top ranked picture. It seems that you conflate sexiness and attractiveness and also miss the forest for the trees. First, a woman can attempt to be sexy, completely succeed, and still be completely unattractive. So can a man (I know many women know exactly what I speak of when I mention Lil’ Wayne in this context). Also, I would bet that even in their sexiest poses the two aforementioned video-vixens would not have come in the top three spots, because (IMHO) they are simply less attractive than three of the females there. My point is, no matter the pose or ‘sexiness’ of the picture, an attractive woman is still an attractive woman and I don’t think any amount of perceived sexiness by itself will make one “attractive” person more “attractive” than a person that is actually “more attractive”. But this leads me to another subject, how would one conduct an ‘objective’ study on attractiveness? How does one even begin to quantify it? In addition, wouldn’t there will always be some influence and/or bias implemented somewhere by somebody, doing something? Finally, I don’t think that this was meant to be an objective study of attractiveness, but more of a game to see if men and women knew how each other thought on the idea of attractiveness. the actual attractiveness and/or sexiness of the individuals were irrelevant (because if we knew how the opposite sex thought, we’d chose the same thing anyway). Seeing it from this perspective, can you see how I came to the conclusions that I did?

          • @NomadaNare
I understand what you are saying, and while I agree with most of your perspective, let me go ahead and burn down the forest so that you can see what I’m saying clearly and without obstruction.

My point was really a simple one: Regardless of what the purpose of the study/game was, at the end of the day, it was severely flawed, and therefore cannot be relied upon to prove, conclude, or assume anything.
The study allowed for way too many external factors to be present which rendered it ineffective in proving or disproving the hypothesis. There was no control. I don’t care how many times you tell me cleavage in the picture didnt influence your ranking, the bottom line is you cannot prove that it didn’t. And therein lies the rub.
It follows the same line of logic the judicial system uses during high profile criminal matters, where juries are sequesterd in hopes to lessen external influence from outsiders and media outlets in order to render a more fair and unbiased verdict based on the facts that are presented within the courtroom.
And this is the crux of the problem with yours, and a lot of other conclusions being spouted on here. There were too many external and significantly varying elements within and between the images that made this study inherently f*cked up. The fact that while viewing pics, respondants were ranking based on their existing knowledge or from making assumptions on looking at the photo(i.e. basketball = tall, athletic build; cute girly pose = approachableness) is leading, and thus raises questions about the integrity of this whole little experiment/game.
So all this uprooted talk about sex*ness vs attractiveness vs dark vs light is impertinent. VSS’ & VSBs still have no premise to “know how each other thought on the idea of attractiveness” because the very basis of its assessment was flawed. Do you see me now?

          • @ Mr SoBo

I would guess that you’re a lawyer, a social ‘scientist’, or you watch too much TV because you appear to have a narrow understanding of science and logic. If you actually did science (and I would be surprised at this point if you told me that you did) you would know that not every experiment needs a control, but even if we were taking ourselves just a little too seriously and decided to have one, how would one make a ‘control’ for this test? Exactly what variables would you ‘control’ for?

Next, if you had a more sophisticated understanding of logic, you would know that not only is it physically impossible for me to ‘prove’ that any arbitrary thing didn’t have an effect on me but logically impossible to ‘prove’ that the woman’s cleavage had no effect on me, just as it would be impossible for you to ‘prove’ that it did. On top of that, you can’t ‘prove’ that you’re not a child rapist, would that make me right in assuming it just because I thought you were?

Furthermore, for someone that has ‘burned down the forest’, you are still awfully lost within it. The ‘external and significantly varying elements within and between the images’ of which you speak are irrelevant because no one can quantify how they may or may not affect whomever is looking at them, unless you have some well supported theory of how such varying elements you speak about effect those that answered the questions. Now, I can somewhat understand your apprehension against liberally applying these ‘results’ but at the very least we can come to some real conclusions from this game: the men here had more success in picking attractive men than the women did in picking attractive women, at least as it concerns these pictures. Why, pray tell, couldn’t I apply what we learned here about men/women and these particular pictures to other scenarios with similar circumstances? And for the record, I never had a problem seeing you, I’m just wondering why you seem to be staring awfully hard at a tree trunk while declaring that there are no leaves.

        • “Finally, I don’t think that this was meant to be an objective study of attractiveness”

I hope not, because that’s utterly impossible as you asked in your question above! lol

Oh, and I completely get what you mean on the Lil Wayne front. How he’s able to bag certain chicks is…well…it’s something.

  46. Listen folks. This is the bottom line. Bria.

This test, if PROPERLY EXECUTED and PROPERLY COMPLETED by participants, the results would have been STRIKINGLY different for both male and females.

The test was to rate the sample pics level of attractiveness in comparison to one another, BASED SOLEY on the photographs alone.
Unfortunately, because the photos were shots of celebrities and well known individuals, it was IMPOSSIBLE to offer impartial, uninfluenced rankings. There was absolutely NO WAY one could judge on the photos alone because there was existing knowledge and exposure to these individuals. Basic psychology folks.
Bria won because of her well known @ss and her propped up t*ts in the photo. Make no mistake about that.
Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, these things have an impact and influence your rankings. As simple as that photo was, it was still selling s*x, unlike the other photos. And with that said, I think men chose the simplest, but S*XIEST girl and not the most attractive. All this exaggerated poetic enlightenment talk about pretty skin, eyes, and auro is bullsh*t to the 3rd degree.

This test was screwed up before it began because of poor execution, poor sample photos, and the horrible results on both sides mirror that. I cry for a do over.

    • “This test was screwed up before it began because of poor execution, poor sample photos, and the horrible results on both sides mirror that.”

Hey, stop it before you make Champie poo poo cry. *hugs Champ*

Um, but good point about the celebs and the preconceived thoughts. It should have been non-famous random Microsoft clip art folks…

      • I’m not dissing Champ at all. Trust me.
Tests such as these are not easy to conduct. You have to be microscopically careful in every single detail of its execution and presentation.
I’m not dissing Champ at all. I’m actually addressing the VSB & VSS’s that are drawing ridiculous conclusions about the results.
        Much respect to Champ, always.

        • “I’m not dissing Champ at all. Trust me.”

lol Trust me, I was just ackin’ a fool and teasing you.

And yeah, us VSBs and VSSs are CRAZY. Especially the later. Gotta love us, right? :)

    • LAWDHAVUSMERCY a man who cries, for anything is just amazing to me…you have my vote, pushes Yeah…So aside to get on the Mr SoBo bandwagon…..line forms BEHIND me, please & thank you

        • wow, not feelin the love at all today , wipes e-tear from e-eye…but it’s all good cause it’s Friday and in about a half hour I’m gonna go have a mango mojto -thanks to SFG for adding the mango into the mix with a real live MAN….woo hoo YAY ME, and if i slip a roofie into his drink , well ummmm never mind :-)

          • lol… of course it’s all love DUH! lol…Hey… a real LIVE man you say huh? Where y’all get those at? The only ones I’ve been running into are on VSB *sigh* and half of them are unicorns :(

      • you already knew what time it was.. you late on that bandwagon..
because i am the original “Horse Driver and Footman” on that one!

just wanted to let you know..
SFG can back me up on that one…

        • @Nick- GURRLLLL Mr SoBo his own faisty self did tell i dat from long time, im did say “Nick didda alreddy call me fuh her e-boo”…I stepped away from the cheering section on that note-#REALTALK

  47. I’m kinda surprised by the results! I wonder if knowing that B. Myles was a big boody model had a bearing on the vss votes. May have ranked higher without that knowledge. Tanika was not up against a group of her peers, so she was mildly slighted.

For the record, Yaya has absolutely terrible skin.

As far as the men, I didn’t get all the hate. I’m with your homegirl, they were all attractive. (Chris Rock as pookie lips aside. I tried, but couldn’t get past the ash riddled lips, sigh) Brothers just do it for me. Period. 1 could have used some grooming, but cosmetic issues such as that aren’t really a deal breaker in my book. I’ll get him taken care of. Perhaps because I actually was ovulating, I judged purely on breadability.

I think it would have been interesting to know the ages of the voters as well, as I know our perception of beauty, male and female, definitely changes as we age. location would carry weight in assessing these results as well. Having lived in many major cities, I always find it interesting how the regional idea of beauty varies.

    • Co-Sign on the Regional preferances.

I’m a NORTHERN California girl and the exotic, bohemian look tends to be more coveted here. I think Bria is perfect for let’s say Detroit and Atlanta (yes I’ve stereotyped the cities).

  48. The social scientist in me makes me want to sum up this experiment. These are my conclusions/gathered thoughts from comment:
    1) Men have one criteria and women another. That’s a fact; get use to it. Neither side can change the others mind. Men like the girl next door with a banging body. Women like effort and clean-cut.

    2) Both men and women think the opposite sex is extremely shallow even though both have valid points. VSBers keep saying women chose #2 because he was a ball player and VSSers keep saying men chose #3 cause of her donk. I chose #2 cause if i saw him in the club (without the ball or NBA logo) he could still get it. And i do believe most VBSers when they state they didn’t know about #3′s assets when they voted.

    3) Women are harsh when critiquing other women. Know why? We critique ourselves as harshly or more. When I was ranking the women, honestly I ranked if these were my girlfriends, who would I be more threatened by/feel more competition with. Yaya’s exuberance was powerful, that’s why she got my top pick. Bria’s plainness didn’t do anything for me…

    4) As good as this post was, this was an extremely flawed experiment that by no means represents any skin-toned preferences, gold-digging, etc. The “scruffy” factor Champ was going for turned out to be the “dirty” factor for many VSS.

These are all my opinions, if I’m wrong sue me. Contact my attorney, he is the same dude representing the “claimed” daddy of LeBron.

  49. not sure if this was said already, but it’s hard to rank looks on ppl you already know or assume to know. For the men I already knew who 4 out of 5 were… (Lenny is so sexy to me so I’m attracted to him the most).

And with the women I knew 3 out of 5… if they had all been stock photos it would’ve been much better.

  50. off topic…i have officially maxed out facebook so I am thinking about setting up a twitter acct. If you see a random friend request from a chica in the DMV, accept it.

    thank you and goodnite

    • BABY GIRL!!! i’m lookin forward to it!! and we’ll add you to our list!!
      “VSBs on twitter”
      come on over and join…
we have some random a** discussions.. but most of the time it’s HILARIOUS!!!

      • I need to get my twitter game poppin off again, I kinda fell off.. I want to join the party!!! I just went on Twitter and followed you Nick and some other names I recognized from VSB.. I’m @thepopculturist

        • I am sending a friend request to vss’s and vsb’s (especially Cheekie because if i don’t she would probably cut me LOL)!

          • YESSSSSSSSSSS. What’s your twitter name? I got a few follows at once and I don’t know who is who…But then again, I’m just checking on my phone and haven’t visited folks’ pages yet.

          • @BKSweetheart.
I love how Cheekie is the unofficial official VSB twitter address collector. I just follow her list and teef from there. Because when it comes to vsb..ppl follow cheekie first! lol.
            ps: quiethaylestorm pon di twitter!

  51. What I noticed from the results is that the VSB have separate criteria on judging women. We have one column for looks and one for personality. There is an on/off switch when judging women. It seems that some of the VSS have both switches on and judge simultaneously of physical attributes alone. The VSB judge on the complete physical package. A woman that is a 6 or 7 in the face can shoot up to an 8 or 9 if she has an above average or excellent body. A woman that is an 8, 9, or 10 in the face will always have that disclaimer e.g. she is cute but she is working with nothing. That doesn’t mean she won’t attract men. I also noticed how the some of the VSS judge personality on appearance. I thought women grew out of that. But yesterday you had a few women judging dudes on the lack of a shave and so on. In some circumstances you an do that but not all. The women were ROUGH on the men pics. I hope my 1.5 @ss doesn’t run into any of you. I’m already low on points. Let the VSS tell it I might be in the negative point range. This also reminds me of how regardless of what men say women will fight tooth and nail to disregard what you say and believe what they want to believe.

    • This also reminds me of how regardless of what men say women will fight tooth and nail to disregard what you say and believe what they want to believe.

      This!!!
If there was ever to be a conclusion to this test, it is the sentence above.

    • I think the coversation about differences between men and women often comes to the ability of one side or the other to separate or combine different stuff. Combining looks and personality (women do this very easily adn way more often), versus evaluating them separately. Separating love interests from friends, versus seeing those two things as mixtures, or potential mixtures, of attributes in any one person (men would, at least on a core, animalistic level, boink all but the least attractive of his female friends and associates, given certain circumstances).

Okay, so maybe it’s just those two things, but it’s an interesting idea. This must be what it was like when Franklin, Crick and Watson discovered the double helix of DNA.

  52. i posted last night and it disappeared!!

anyway i learned that while vss and vsbs are very smart, they are too smart to follow simple direction.
and I totally agree with your g chat friend
these people be mad frontin on the internet.
yall woulda given any and all of them ninjas some play
and before people start replying to my comments with the reasons why “they” wouldnt.
    let me just say.
dont, i dont care and i still wont believe you.
    Happy Friday!!!
and I think it was very interesting idea Champ

I also think Bria myles one based off of the fact she was bria myles not necessarily because of the pic you posted.

    • these people be mad frontin on the internet.

That’s why I e-love you, Shay-d! You make me smile every time I read you.

      • @sula
thanks!! lol im just sayin….people be getting all beside themselves on the internet!
i am just appalled by the shyt people feel comfortable doing and saying on social networking spots that they would never do in real life…..

    • I’m mad I missed the shenanigans yesterday, but this right here cracked me up. Especially this: and before people start replying to my comments with the reasons why “they” wouldnt. let me just say. dont, i dont care and i still wont believe you. . Bwhahahaha

    • I’m still o_O at his friend’s comment because I coulda sworn folks were complaining about the pictures specifically. Not how they look in real life. Lenny Kravitz fans (myself included) were pointing out how foine he was in better pics.

Maybe there were too many comments for me to read? Because I saw less “He just plain fug” and more “Why couldn’t you get better pics of these mofos!! You ain’t doin them justice!”

  53. I thought we learned from “the post that shall not be named* that ranking people causes all kinds of back lash. Folks get highly upset behind rankings. That’s why I think we should just add a d to ranking and get to dranking. You know once the liquor starts flowing everyone becomes a 10!!

  54. Wait, so that face Bria was making was a “come hither” face? I’m quoting Mr. Sobo in particular, but I’ve seen a variation of that phrased used more than once about her expression. She looked uncomfortable and shy to me. lol

Dare I say, she kinda looked like she was suppressing a silent poot.

Reason number 45539578095470 why we’ll never understand each other.

    *practices in mirror*

  55. what we should do is do this again with pictures submitted by vss and vsb’s, but we can’t because it might hurt my feelings.

    • lol, someone else (Monk, right?) suggested that above. I say we do it…the advertisers for this blog will faint with glee. Can you imagine the comments? Whooo…

    • That lil’ experiment may not work either…if VSS/VSB knew that they were ranking/judging other VSS/VSB, many may not offer their true opinions for FEAR of hurtin’ someone’s feelings. You see how hard some folks (okay, VSS) went in on both men and women…but there was no pressure to hold back because they didn’t know any on a personal level. While many VSS/VSB don’t know each other personally, this here blog does allow us to interact intellectually (if not physically) and there is some sense of fellowship. Ain’t nobody trying to really mess that up.
The only way it would work is if persons submitted pix and then VSB/VSS were told that they weren’t pix of other VSB/VSS. For sure, a few self-esteems would be damaged, but at least you’d get an accurate assessment of ppl’s true feelings.

      • You are SMART. Because that’s super true. Dammit!

A lot of folks already have their pics up anyway. I think the only way to do this this in a safe way is to have folks anonymously put in their opinions. But if enough sway in one direction, folks would draw conclusions…so…nevermind. Messiness is fun…but only in fiction and reality tv. lol

      • As long as you not going around putting babies in trash cans….I know you heard about that sh#t out of Berkeley County, right?

        • @DG

That crap in Moncks Corner is horrid. How does a man neglect his son who is his spitting image to the point of death? I’m not a fan of cap punishment but when the conviction of these two comes through they should be taken into the courtyard and shot. You put little man in a garbage bag then pour cement on him. C’mon.

  56. Some of the stuff folks are saying VSS’s did, was not committed by all VSS’s and vice versa. The lumping of everyone and criticizing of reasons and reasoning when the rules clearly stated you could include that after ranking is unfair. Plus, not all the sisters WENT IN on the selections. Some just ranked a dude lower than the other photos, but it didn’t mean he was unattractive at all or that the sister wouldn’t holla. The test was flawed, but fun. That stated, don’t expect the results to be pristine from a flawed test and make all kinds of assumptions about folks. Questioning, wondering, disagreeing, not comprehending…I can dig it. it’s the learning process. General sweeping comments about men or women as a whole, I can not.

    • @legitimate_soul

the comments about people “going in” are in reference to the people that were
      going in.
i dont think anyone is saying ALL the vss’ were.
i didnt read all the comments i stopped about mid way when it did look to become a hate fest

but for those that gave reason, not hate i dont have a problem with but there was some that got extra with it…and those were the comments i took issue with. but hey everyone is entitled…

      • I hear you. I also didn’t feel the need to respond, because that wasn’t me and folks prefaced their comments with the “the folks that went in”. They not talking to me, no problem. However, when posts seemed to address all the VSS’s or said “women” and not quantified by “some women” as if everyone did the same thing, then I’m speaking up like no, everybody wasn’t on it like that.

  57. So, um…I know it’s sad and everything that some folks went (too far) in on other folks, but what exactly did everyone expect on a post ranking physical attractivenes? For things to be the opposite of superficial? And that goes for Panda’s post in the past, too. (Which I still to this day, don’t knock him for)

Yeah, it’s shallow, but it feels nice to not drown and sh*t.

    • We can comment and rank physical attractiveness without resorting to mean-spirited tactics and one-liners… at least in my opinion.

Yes, we all chose for shallow reasons. Heck, Lenny sex appeal skyrocketed when I saw his buttcheeks on a video… Yes I like his music but the buttcheeks don’t hurt…

All that to say, shallow is one thing… and we all are that… but overly critical is a different matter altogether.

      • “We can comment and rank physical attractiveness without resorting to mean-spirited tactics and one-liners… at least in my opinion. ”

Wait, no one-liners? That ain’t e’en fun, Sula!

But, yeah, I know what you mean. Yup, folks went too far…it’s just that no matter what people say and how they say it…ranking someone last in general ain’t exactly “nice” either. That’s my point. And yeah not everyone saw “last” as fugly, just least attractive…it would still sting the person to some extent, though.

But, I wonder though, were people only overly criticial because they had to explain why they didn’t like so-and-so? And because they had to defend their position when questioned? Because honestly, I didn’t see it get deeper until the “Is he/she fine/fug or not” thing turned into a full-on debate…

        • That’s an interesting question… and one Monk (I think?) touched on… Maybe it was the pressure to be snarky/wity with it? Ionknow *shrugs*… And in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn’t matter much… or at all… But the conclusions that are drawn from the attitudes are valid as well… If there is ranking/judging/whatever, then one has to bear the consequences of what the judging will have…

I personally described what my reasoning behind the picks were: My #1 female looked like a lot of fun (I had no idea it was Yaya!) and her make-up was nicely put… Tanika’s has big hair and I stan for big hair. This pic of Bria looked exactly like my baby sister, so it was a shoe-in…. The last one was just too boring for me. So my picking of the women had a lot to do with their “assumed” personalities based on their appearance… I don’t understand physical attractiveness in itself, and I am ok with that… I know what I like and why I like it. :)

Ok enough rambling… time to go get a shot in miss t-lee’s honor. ;)

          • “But the conclusions that are drawn from the attitudes are valid as well… If there is ranking/judging/whatever, then one has to bear the consequences of what the judging will have…”

            Yup, too true!

Oh, and ya’ll have a fabulous time! And drunkenly gossip about the FOOLERY that went down these couple of days at VSB! I shole would… ;) *evin grin*

    • So, um…I know it’s sad and everything that some folks went (too far) in on other folks, but what exactly did everyone expect on a post ranking physical attractivenes? For things to be the opposite of superficial? And that goes for Panda’s post in the past, too. (Which I still to this day, don’t knock him for)

i dont see how or why ranking pictures based on attractiveness HAS to equal negativity and hate. My point is this many go to far and negative in attempt to get co signage. I mean snark is snark and I expected that but pandering for blog points, unnecessary hate and these fake type a$$ personas get to me..
im kind of dealing with an overload of social networking and how different people are in real life vs fake life…
so its not JUST about this post and the comments for me.. but on the real fa real
theres a difference in saying.. I dont think sheis that cute or she’s wearing to much make up
and that chick looks like a dog or whatever else was said.

      • I mean snark is snark and I expected that but pandering for blog points, unnecessary hate and these fake type a$$ personas get to me..

The way you put things is too dang hilarious.

      • I gotcha Shay…and I acknowledged that folks went overboard above (hell, I may have in some folks’ eyes…who knows, but I go overboard with everything #blameitontheleo…lol), I’m just saying that since Champ did ask for details as to why folks picked the way they did…that’s what we got.

        Perhaps we got too much…

  58. *yawns, scratches hair, re-saunters in with my JA/WIM (west indian massive) attitude.

this was alot to read for a friday, but i managed. felt like champ did in trying to tabulate the results for american idol

the convo took an a turn. then turned again. and is now caught in a useless roundabout of myths, stereotypes and half-trufs. yes. trufs.

we all judge people despite the adage that we’re not supposed to.
we all judge people based on our own personal preferences
we are products of our environments and make assessments in life accordingly
men and women are socialized differently, therefore think and act differently

note: i wasn’t feeling the chill directed at women for being less logical, more biased etc. not cool my friends. not cool.

people infer $#it all the time. dont make it right, just makes it so.

have all the finger pointing vsb’s thought that maybe we’ve developed e-crushes on you and so when you rank someone 1st that doesn’t look like us, we’re a little disappointed? im not saying that’s the case, just throwing out some possibilities.

im not even talking about myself cuz i didnt even participate. i too thought the experiment was slanted towards better pictures of the women. so shoot me! im not saying the men are ugly, im saying in grouping pics im supposed to rank the women pics were better and much easier than the men. and just because i have breasts of my own, doesn’t mean i can’t look at a pic of a woman and say she’s beautiful.
hell, i met a stylist yesterday who is gorgeous and i told her so! to her face! gasp! shock! oh the horror!

frankly, i rank pics of myself the same way! actually, if you think we were tough on the women. or on the men (which one was it?), we are TOUGHEST on ourselves.

moral of the story: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i shouldnt have to nor will i ever attempt to explain how or why i find certain people better looking than others because my reasonings make sense to only one person. me.

and that’s all i gotta say about that. forrest.

    • agreed. one of my closest friends loves pretty boy/model types. Now, while I can appreciate the art work that God created in them, and find them attractive, I am not attracted to them. I mean to say, if I saw them out, I probably wouldn’t give them the assuring eye contact to come hither. more likely to go for the slightly lower maintenance friend with more personality, a sense of humor, and a passion for something besides working out and eating healthy. That could just be due to the fact that I anticapate excessive guilt trips about my love of fried chicken wings! ionno? lol. I digress, beauty is relative, and depends on what standards we base our decisions on. Choosing who will be considered more attractive in general, and who I could see myself being more attracted to, forces me to make assumptions based upon inconclusive evidence displayed in a photo, and generally would lead to very different results.

  59. I think a lot of women are upset with the rankings because it proves that what women are taught to strive for isn’t what men like., Fashion, style, modeling and all of that- what women value in a woman isn’t what men value in a woman.
I’m 40,so I may be older than a lot of people here and see things differently. All the high fashion, uber stylish edginess that we woman think makes a woman attractive makes a woman attractive- to women. Men like pretty girls.

For the women I picked as the ones I thought were prettiest
4- she has very nice clear even skin, round cheeks and a pretty, wide smile. she looks wholesome and nice. like she’d be very pleasant to be around. i think she’s adorable and i’m surprised that so many other women don’t agree.

    3. she has very nice skin, cute eyes and a gamine face. again, pretty and pleasant.

5- again, a nice smile, good teeth and happy looking.

numbers 1 and 2 were about the same to me- i put number 2 last because her smile looked strained.
pretty much i based it on my perceptions of their personality based on their demeanor.
imo where long term relationships are concerned a pretty face does trump a banging body, male or female, because a person with a nice face and an average body will make babies with nice faces. a person with an ugly face and a nice body will make babies with ugly faces.who cares how bangin your kids body is going to be, you still gotta look at that ugly mug for 18 years

    for the men i picked

2- i liked his bone structure and lips and yeah, the muscles helped

1- he looks like he is fun, energetic and nice.plus he hsa a wide neck, so he looks like he is a big guy and i like guys who seem like they are active.i could see myself running in the park throwing tennis balls to the dog while he runs with the kids on his shoulders
    5. nice skin and symmetrical features and he is very well groomed. always a plus. but he didn’t look like he was as rough and tumble and fun as the 1st too
    4. imma need him to smile.facially i think he looks very similar to number 2, just darker and with more hair. i put number 2 ahead of him because he had visible muscles and number 5 ahead of him because at least 5 seemed to smile a lil
    5. he looks like my brother

    • Very true. I learned long ago that if I wanted to know what guys like, just ask my brother. When we think about it, do we really want the man in our life to be able to name every designer in our closet, or know what color is in this season? That’s what I thought, lol. They know what looks good and what doesn’t either way and I have no problem with that.

I also love your description of number one. I mentioned the other day and above what would only give me pause about him, but the smile and demeanor did it for me. When I looked for other pics of him on Google (after this was all said and done), the one with him and the little boy was the only one I clicked on, lol. Overall I ranked the men 5,1,2,4,3, with the first three not really having an order per se.

  60. Interesting results, especially the whole Bria thing. I did find it odd that someone average would be the only darker skinned choice – weird, but maybe that was one of Champ’s angles… ??

I have to agree w/ those who think men chose her #1 b/c of the ass knowledge. Nothing to do w/ skin color as far as women ranking her last, her face is just not that interesting or noticeable. Bottom line – she looks like Cousin Kesha, who wouldn’t make round 1 of ANTM (let alone rank against Yaya). Not dissin’ the girl, its just how most women see it. I guess most men are thinking like dude who (paraphrasing) “doesn’t know the faces of the women in his office, but he knows their curves” – that ish is VILE, & slightly pathological. I’m guessing he’ll remain a disconnected, superficial bachelor to the grave – good times… BLAH
