10 Black Men I Just Can’t Trust

uptown-peter-gunz

Peter Gunz and Rowan Pope are perhaps the two most hated men on TV right now. At first glance, they don’t seem to have much in common. (Well, much in common besides a preternatural ability to ruin their daughter’s lives.) But, a close glance reveals a trait linking them both. Actually, you don’t even need to make a close glance. Just look at them and you’ll see.

Two grown ass Black men. And not a facial hair between them.

Look, I get that some Black men just can’t grow any real hair on their faces. I don’t think there’s a name for that affliction, but if there was it would probably be paulpierceidits. I also get that some—presidents, news anchors, strippers, etc—have to cut it off for professional reasons. But, for Black men who fall outside of those categories, “an intentional lack of facial hair” usually equals “this n*gga takes showers with no curtain.”

Anywho, a Black man with an intentional lack of facial hair is definitely a Black man I just can’t trust. Here’s a few more.

The Black Man with two first names

I’m not saying that every Black man I’ve ever met who goes by two first names—i.e. K. James Jenkins, John Michael Johnson, K. Bill William Williams, etc—is a self-important prick I wouldn’t trust with a bag of counterfeit bitcoins, but every Black man I’ve ever met who goes by two first names—i.e. P. James Jenkins, John Michael Johnson, F. Bill William Williams, etc—is a self-important prick I wouldn’t trust with a bag of counterfeit bitcoins.

The Black Man who dresses like a White man

Unbunch your panties. “Dresses like a White man” doesn’t mean “looks nice” or “wears suits that actually fit” or “knows his kids” or anything like that. No, “dresses like a White man” means “it’s 15 degrees outside, and this n*gga is at the store with a f*cking Levi jeans short set and some chancletas.

The grown Black Man with the dress shoes that point up

Let’s just say that if you try to shake my hand with your Catholic school confirmation ceremony-ass dress shoes looking like this…

article-1387604-0C14B3CE00000578-810_634x430

…I will spit in your eye. And then I will run. Because you probably have a couple felonies. And you won’t catch me. Because if you try to run, you’ll stab yourself in your shins.

The Black Man who gets mad at other Black men for not effing with another Black man

I get it. You don’t think peeing on 12 year olds is that big of a deal. Fine. I’ll still invite you to the BBQ. You’ll have to eat with a plastic spork, and your food will be on a paper towel instead of a paper plate, but you’re still invited.

You know how to get yourself uninvited? Have the audacity to be mad at me for my decision not to eff with guys who pee on pubescents.

And, speaking of that…

The Black Man who uses the White man as his basis for morality

If the words “well, White people still supported ***insert celebrity’s name*** after he did ***insert some random effed up sh*t***, so why can’t Black people still support… ” ever oozed their way out of your mouth, kill yourself. Tell me where you’re going to be buried first, though, so I can dig up your grave three months later and pour orange Kool-Aid on your corpse.

The Black Man who’s the only other Black man at a work event but refuses to talk to you

64% of the time, this is the exact same Black guy with the jean shorts in the frigid weather.

The Black Man who, instead of just admitting that he’s cheap as hell and was raised by a flock of pigeons, gives you a thousand word long constitution about the economy as the reason why he doesn’t tip

Also commonly known as the “prisonsmart” Black Man

The Black Man with the perpetual bluetooth in his ear

I haven’t done any type of study or survey with this population, but I’d bet 60% of them look like they smell like honey Jack and ginger ale. And 60% of that 60% are named “Tommy.”

The Black Man who promises to make a list of 10, but since he could only think of nine, writes about himself for the 10th

That’s it for me, people of VSB. Did I miss anyone? Are there any other Black men (or Black women) no one should ever, ever, ever trust? The floor is yours.

(Oh, and those with Tumblrs, make your way over to the reason why they never should have given you n*ggas money.)

when i was in nyc there was this dude at my job who didn’t speak to me for the first 3 or so months of me working there. i never forgot it. he tried to be cool with me after a while. naw son.

one of my best friends in life has two first names. his last name is benn. lol cool dude.

i really can’t get down with black men who don’t have a lot of male friends. if you only hang around women then i’m looking at you funny.

  • bb ragusa (the medium ragu)

    Fatherless black men.
I swear I cannot and will not fuck with them. Ever. At all.

    • BlueWave1

I’ll do one much better. Brothers who are not involved in their own children’s lives. They can never be down with the clique.

And, real talk, if you have more than one baby mama and haven’t married any of them something is off.

      • bb ragusa (the medium ragu)

Yes dear God yes! I don’t understand how men don’t think women read that as “You seem to have a lot of relationships, very serious relationships with very real responsibilities, that you have no problem bailing on.” because that’s exactly what I think.

      • Msdebbs

I had a guy that was divorced twice with 4 kids by 3 different women cuss me out because I turned him down….

        • Val

          Lol. Classic.

      • 321mena123

        Real talk.

      • afronica

I wish more men felt this way and acted on it.

Hang with me for a minute. People tried for at least a couple of decades to get people to stop smoking. The campaign seemed to be going nowhere. Then laws were passed to basically outlaw smoking anywhere indoors. Simultaneously, somehow smoking started to seem un-smart, a bit disgusting and foolishly expensive. I wish Black men (and women) would have that same revulsion for the guys hitting and running all up and through our communities. I think it may be the only way the behavior changes. *end rant*

    • Scoob

Funny. I will not mess with fatherless black women. Headache? No. Migraine? No. Think what Gemma did to Tara in the season finale of Sons of Anarchy. Last thing I need is a woman who has been indoctrinated by her mother on how n*ggas ain’t shi* aka Peter Gunz (BX Stans Up!)

      • helga_g

hey there! being “fatherless” does not mean your mom raised you to hate men, I literally cannot recall a single negative word about a man coming from my mom’s mouth.ever.

I mean if a girl didn’t have a daddy that means she can’t have a man ( and be a loving,supportive,non-naggin woman)? Nah.

      • Msdebbs

I cant totally agree with this. I know plenty of chicks that grew up with their dads and make the worst decisions in men.

      • 321mena123

        Do you boo.

      • Rachmo

My mom grew up with no Daddy and she’s a boss with a doting husband. Maybe she’s a unicorn?

      • afronica

*as the corollary to fatherless men ain’t ish appears, feels hopes for a chill and fun vsb friday slipping away*

    • 321mena123

The no daddy hate in the comments section on this site have always left me perplexed. ESPECIALLY coming from our community.

      • bb ragusa (the medium ragu)

I don’t mean that you come from a single parent home. I don’t mean that you have a different father than your siblings. I mean men who grew up with absolutely no one to be a positive male influence in their life. It’s not hate, it’s just a preference. There are some facets of socialization, proper socialization, that you can only get from one place.

      • BlueWave1

I just want to be clear. I’m not in agreement in alienating people for something their parent(s) did. But I have to draw a conclusion about a person who bails on their own children.

        • Yoles

any parent that bails on their kids gets the evil eye from me… at all times… i am shocked when i meet people that were just willing to let their kids grow up without them… shocked

          • http://www.twitter.com/IluminatiNYC Todd

Hmmm…interesting stance in publi. *sips tea*

            • Yoles

how so? do you believe my stance is different in private? on one hand I’m saying be a parent get involved & in the dark I’m like fuck yo kids they got another parent, they don’t need you!! yolo

              do tell todd

              • http://www.twitter.com/IluminatiNYC Todd

Unlike you I don’t put out details of our private disagreements on the internet. You don’t want to go there…

                • Sahel

                  Discretion people.

                • Rachmo

Come on Todd chill out. This is VSB we don’t threaten each other. Uncool.

                • Shamira

What I mean is don’t allow for someone to get you riled up. Todd has put out enough of his personal business for us to know that he doesn’t make the best decisions.

                      I didn’t mean any harm.

                    • Shamira

I think Yoles is just frustrated because she is almost always the pacifist and the one time she gets fed up she’s the one that gets told to shush. Todd steps out of pocket all the dayum time and he needs to be called on it every so often. Sorry if I’m putting words in your mouth @yoles:disqus :-)

                    • Sahel

Yo,stop putting things in her mouth

                    • Yoles

its ok @disqus_5RH3V25df6:disqus that is exactly how i feel

                    • 321mena123

I get it. I just want Yoles to be happy and have her soul glow.

                    • camilleblue

Mena…I know what you meant. I think it’s that yolie never said who she was talking about that day she posted that she was upset. Todd told on his d@mn self. And he’s clearly been in his feelings about it, so now he’s gonna try to throw some shady threat at her about it? FOH.

                    • 321mena123

I missed this exchange so didn’t know there was more to it.

This is kinda why i don’t want to meet people from online even though there are several people i would LOVE to meet from online (you and Yoles being two of them). People start bringing in the real world to online and it can become messy. I’m cool with not showing my face and just chilling in the comments.

                    • afronica

I want to meet IRL the people I have no reservations about. The ones who give me pause, though…give me pause.

                    • Shamira

HE brings it online though. Thats what kills me. No one said ish to him. a bunch of us have established genuine friendships FAR beyond just VSB and keep our ish off the site. Some people on here know stuff I havent told ANYONE else. He gets butthurt because no one sees it for his sad attempts at attention grabbing anymore and acts like a child.

This man is raising a daughter. He is responsible for molding another life. It’s time to hold him accountable.

                    • Sahel

                    • b sweet

There are several people who I would definitely love to meet offline. I wouldn’t think it’s anymore of a risk than someone I meet at my favorite happy hour spot.

I love the bonds the NY VSB crew has created. If the DC crew wants to stay online, can the NY VSB crew adopt me please-you guys are only a megabus ride away.

                    • Sahel

                • Asiyah

Sorry, Todd. I had to downvote that because it’s passive-aggressive. Speak your mind, man! What’s up?

                  • http://www.twitter.com/IluminatiNYC Todd

Look downthread. I came back to respond after being away, and ran into this mess. Wow…

                    • h.h.h.

                      don’t do this, sir. #RespectfullyAskin

        • 321mena123

I agree with you on this. It was the comment from the other guy that I didn’t agree with. I have also seen too many time on this site dudes saying that they won’t date a girl that doesn’t know her father. The blaming a person for their parent walking out of their lives is extremely harsh but to each their own.

          • LMNOP

Of course it makes sense to judge a person for abandoning their own child, but not to blame the child.

      • LMNOP

It is so ignorant and hateful, and really reflects poorly on the people who are saying ish like this, not people who don’t know their fathers.

    • Val

So, you wouldn’t fcuk with Barack?

      • LMNOP

        Well played Val.

      • Freebird

you know im a fan. you stay winning.

      • afronica

Your aim is so true (cues Costello).

        • Val

I love Elvis Costello. Allison gets lots of plays on my ipod.

      • bb ragusa (the medium ragu)

Barack had a dad. His mother’s husband. I stated above that I meant a positive male role model, which doesn’t have to be your biological dad and could also exclude your father IF he isn’t positive.

    • Msdebbs

some fatherless black men actually turn out okay

      • 321mena123

We have entire generations of black fatherless people who have turned out just fine, became productive successful members of society, and raise their families. We need to stop acting like for generations blacks had a 90+% father rate and just now the tides have turned.

    • Rachmo

I have to disagree here. I’d rather people have no/distant fathers than bad fathers.

      • 321mena123

Yes. Having your mom/dad in your life does not mean their influence is a positive one. Some people have amazing moms/dads and some don’t.

      • bb ragusa (the medium ragu)

That’s a very valid point. If a father isn’t going to make an effort to be a positive role model in his child’s life than exiting would probably be best. Although I can’t understand why you’d rather leave than do better. It’s not like kids aren’t worth the effort.

    • SuperStrings

Sadly enough, you’ve sworn off about 65% of the black male population.

    • Freebird

shud be happy mine was’nt around. id probably be robbing you.

              Oh okay. Thanks, Tristan.

        • Jay

You gotta admit…. It’s kinda dope for an artist to just release an unannounced album out of the blue.

          • Val

            Dope? Or maybe desperate?

            • Jay

              Tough crowd…

            • Msdebbs

I think its dope. I think she’s trying to prove a point….no promotion needed.

              • Jay

Exactly the way I saw it. Flexing on em…

                • LMNOP

Maybe she just didn’t feel like doing all that, wanted to spend more time with the baby, work/ life balance and all that, and she doesn’t NEED to do it, so.

              • Val

Not really because not promoting it is a backdoor way of promoting it. The point is to get everyone talking about how she released an album sans promotion, which is promotion.

                • Jay

LOL… you gets no wins with Val.

                • Msdebbs

I agree but it’s still dope.

                • http://www.youtube.com/user/pervertedalchemist1 Perverted Alchemist

Besides, Kanye and Mos Def did that tactic before. Granted, the albums they did it to were terrible, but still..

                • Shamira

Saying I’m gonna put out an album and not put out any singles is backdoor promoting. People not even knowing that an album was even in the works and you releasing it in the middle of the night WITH videos for every track is bold.

Plus lets not act like this method could work for everyone. Lupe drops an album for sale at midnight on Thursday with no precursor its selling 137 records.

That aside, I’m not a big fan of hers and I think its a really really good project.

                  • Val

But, look at all of the free promotion she’s getting in the media for putting an unexpected album out. You don’t think her people knew that would happen?

                    • Shamira

yes and no, I’d venture to say. She’s established a brand and so sure there’d be attention. But shes forcing people to buy it, and thats a leap that a lot of people arent willing to make in 2013. I’m intrigued to see what the numbers for the first three weeks turn out to be.

                    • 321mena123

I agree with this. You have to be a certain type of artist to be able to pull this off. Justin Timberlake and Beyonce are two of them.

                    • http://brown-c6h12o6.tumblr.com/ AfroPetite

Of course it’s calculated. No one is denying the cunning of her team. You knew her team was A1 since day one.

AK wishes she could garner this much hype for a body of work. She’s got loyal fans but if she put out an album in the dead of the night only you would know it existed.

                    • Val

Now see, why you gotta bring AK into this. Lol

Show me a lie though. Did I say anything that wasn’t 100% true? Alicia Keys, as wonderful as she is, won’t be considered iconic, revolutionary, et al. As quickly as she resurfaces she is forgotten in the music industry.

            • http://www.twitter.com/IluminatiNYC Todd

Um, Beyonce could save your girlfriends life and you’d still give her shade. We all know your love for her. LOL

          • Oshun

oh please, there is nothing dope about it, if the artiste is creatively stagnant-of which she is.

            • Msdebbs

Boy ya’ll go hard on Mrs. Carter but I gotta give credit where credit is due. She’s worked hard and stolen many songs from people (SHADE) to get where she is.

I wonder when you will reveal your plans for the network of re-education camps once your bill to criminalize Beyonce makes it through Congress thanks to your Boule connections. I’m biased. But to be honest, the production is A1 on the album. Beyonce sounds sure of herself. Everything flows together so smoothly. The writing in A1.

The videos all look superb. Baby Blue is on the last track singing Hold on *passes out*

I might be the only stan here on VSB and that’s fine.

                  • http://brown-c6h12o6.tumblr.com/ AfroPetite

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about VSS/VSB, it’s that some of us are so uncomfortable with people who don’t have an $80,000 piece of paper with “D I P L O M A” scrawled on it being in a tax bracket we won’t ever see in our lifetime.

I’ll get sooooo many down votes for this too ;-)

Beyonce was on a world tour, filmed all of these videos, put out an album without a dancer, back up singer, etc. saying one word about it? Man, this woman makes some power moves if I’ve seen any.

                    BEYONCE’S 2013:
Singing National Anthem at President Obama’s Inauguration (January)
                    Singing at the Superbowl (February)
Going on a 123-show World Tour (Started in March and still going on)
                    Raising a child
                    Instagramming her every moment
Recording an entire album complete with videos for each song

                    • Sahel

                      LOL.VSB is elitist

Watch someone comment on this and say that I’m “wrong” and that they could care less that Beyonce didn’t go to their PWI/HBCU.

Y’all can fool each other online but if I see the bullish I’m pointing right at it and calling it what it is, bullish.

                    • Shamira

Eh that wasnt ever my issue with her. My issue was that she seemed like a robot. Great talent, great performer, and unflappable work ethic. but I never felt that her music was HERS, you know. Like i didnt feel that it was personal. It was just hit generating. Which is fine, but if I don’t feel your personality I’m not gonna care for you that much. She seemed to be an empty shell.

So work ethic aside (and IMPRESSIVE ability to keep this whole thing under wraps!!!!), what sells me on this project is that it seems genuine. The songs seem to give a picture into who she is as an individual. As opposed to doing this pageant routine. She’s like “”I’m married and i like to f**** and i own it but im still kick azz and feminist so the f**** what? stay mad”

                      And that Partition video….Jay-Z won.

Don’t trust a Black man with no facial hair, or soft hands.
    Good advice from Pops.

    • Sigma_Since 93

What’s up with the soft hands thing? I had an old woman tell an ex I was a keeper because I had soft hands. My ex told me woman desired men who had jobs that didn’t require them to work on an assembly line on in the field. You got me confused now.

      • miss t-lee

Soft hands-it was explained to me that you don’t want a man whose hands are too soft because that’s a signal that he isn’t handy and had never done any type of hard work with their hands.

        • Sigma_Since 93

Outside of some auto repairs, you’re supposed to wear gloves. Times don’ changed.

          • miss t-lee

You wear gloves to mow a yard? Fix a pipe under the sink?

            • Sigma_Since 93

              • LMNOP

How would fixing a pipe mess up your hands? Unless you’re doing it everyday, in which case, you didn’t actually fix the pipe.

Also, dishes’ll dry your hands up. More than occasional handyman stuff. And winter. Winter hates skin.

And a man with really soft hands will be using all your best lotions.

        • WIP

          soft, sweet hands don’t belong on a man…maybe if he’s a surgeon.

A word of advice…don’t ever date a man that works for UPS. The only way they’ll let a man rock a beard is with a letter from their clergy saying that they can’t shave.

            • LMNOP

That’s one of the dumbest rules I’ve ever heard, how does that matter at UPS? lol

              • http://www.twitter.com/IluminatiNYC Todd

I worked for them over the holidays 5 years ago for extra money. They made me shave.

                • LMNOP

lol, someone in charge there must just be on a power trip or something, because that is not the kind of job that would be affected by facial hair.

                  • SuperStrings

UPS is like that though. They have a guy watching the guy watching guy who watches the guys unloading the trucks.

                    • LMNOP

That sounds very inefficient. I guess their main competition is the USPS though.

                    • SuperStrings

Probably, although I guess it depends on how much theft is really costing you. People’s things come up missing, some lawsuits get filed, could end up costing the company a lot.

Funny… I was just thinking the other day how easily I used to trust people, but I think they were different kind of people than I experienced later sooo… anyway, I remember getting stuck in a certain part of town (dang car) and the first folks to offer me a ride were these two black men. I got in the back seat and it was an interesting couple of minutes as we chatted. I kind of think they were apprehensive of was I really in need especially when I asked them to drop me off at the club. LOL

Another time I got stranded on the highway (yes, I kill cars) the first folks to pull over were 2 black men. I didn’t know who they were as they were walking up to the car, but yeah, please change this tire. One of the dudes happened to be a friend with whom I used to work.

Now, sh*****************t, cell phones baby! I gots people. LOL Oh, my bad. Y’all don’t know what it was like before cell phones. lmao

Lemme think… yes, facial hair on all my rescuers.

      Lol @ court jester shoes…

I’m surprised those joints were so popular at one point…no matter what store sold them, those shoes always smelled like gasoline (like the leather was dipped in 87-grade petrol before being shipped out to stores). Personally, I was afraid to wear ‘em…lol.

        Not gasoline. Dayum…lol
And yes, I’m glad that “trend” is dying. Although I still catch a glimpse of them at the hole in the wall.

And they add about 4 inches to the size of the shoe…all that unused extra shoe material in that pointy azz toe.

I’ma start a new trend…I plan on bringing back them hard a$$ white Buster Browns shoes we wore as toddlers. Let me attend an all-white party sometime in 2014….maaaannn…#sofreshsoclean.

          • miss t-lee

            Not the Buster Browns. Dayum…lol

I hate those perfectly lined up ‘dos too. Beards also, as well. Look like when we used to trace over a coloring book and lie and say we drew the picture ourselves. Looks just like that. This makes sense.
